To the Question of Application Alternative Methods of Resolving Labour Disputes in Ukraine and Lithuania

In this scientific work attention is paid to the protection of the right of a person to work. It is emphasized that this right is one of the fundamental human rights. At the same time, attention is drawn to the fact that today the issue of ways to protect the right to work, in the context of the settlement of labor disputes, remains relevant. The judicial method of resolving labor disputes which is currently available in many countries cannot fully provide an adequate level of protection, in particular due to the overcrowding of the judicial system, which leads to excessive length of proceedings. That is why it is proposed to use alternative methods for resolving labor disputes, such as mediation, arbitration, consideration by specially created commissions. The experience and current state of legislative regulation of the procedure for resolving labor disputes in Lithuania and Ukraine is analyzed in order to develop an optimal model for consideration and resolution of labor disputes. This research is carried out within the framework of the Joint Ukrainian-Lithuanian Research Project "Strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution in Lithuania and Ukraine: Finding the Cross-Border Solution".

Folie à Deux – A Clinical Case of Folie Imposée in a Mother/Child Relationship

Background: Even though the origin of the concept of shared delusion is not consensual, the term folie a deux was introduced in 1877 by two french researchers – Lasègue and Falret. According to the original concept, a person (inductor), cognitively dominant, develops a delusional idea that progressively imposes to a second person (induced), with whom he keeps a close relationship. The four psychopathologic subtypes known – folie imposée, folie simultanée, folie communiquée and folie induite, were described in the final of the XIX century, but its classification and conceptualization was assigned to the american researcher Gralnick (1942). Aim, materials and methods: It is intended to highlight some clinical aspects of the shared delusion disorder, its epidemiological and psycopathogenic characterization and therapeutical approach. In order to achieve it, the authors presented a clinical case report and respective non systematic literature review. Results: It is a case of shared delusion of the type folie imposée in a pair mother/son. The inductor (son) suffers from bipolar disorder and asperger syndrome and shared with his mother (induced and carer) a persecutory delusion. Conclusions: It is highlighted the importance of a social isolation context and close contact between both members in the genesis of the disease; it is discussed the subject of the cognitive dominance between the inductor and the induced and the implications of the separation of the pair mother/son, as primary therapeutic action.

The concept of “original” in Conservation Theory Fake? The Art of Deception revisited

There are several blurry questions in contemporary Conservation Theory. Remarkable contributions from the past now seem insufficient and a stronger theoretical structure is required. Conservators and restorers rely blindly on concepts taken for granted; such is the example of “original” which is the basis of so many decisions and intervention methodologies. Do we really understand the meaning of “original” and why it is so important to our work? What consequences may derive from the misinterpretation of this concept? This paper proposes an approach to the term “original”, seeking answers in a historic analysis, revisiting a remarkable publication by the British Museum, Fake? The Art of Deception, a catalogue from a 1951 exhibition re-published in 1990. In opposition to “original”, we aim to analyze the relationship Man has had with fakes, forgeries and copies over time and how they can be helpful when defining “original”.

Matching colours in pictorial retouching: influence of the three colour dimensions and colour distortion phenomena

Our visual perception is strongly influenced by the anatomical structure of the eye and bylighting conditions. While looking at the painting, we perceive existing colour attributes, using retinal photoreceptors – cones – that serve our vision at higher luminance levels. Lighting, on the other hand, affects our colour discrimination as well as our perception ofthree dimensions of colour. During the retouching process our visual system can be affected by multiple optical impressionsthat many painting conservators are not fully aware of. Colour distortion phenomena canimpact our observation stealthily, while producing simultaneous contrasts and after images that interfere with our colour discrimination as well as our decisions in pigment mixing. The aim of this paper is to analyse these optical properties and to provide practical guidelines that will minimize colour distortion. One of the proposals is the use of 18% reflective grey card to cover adjacent colours around the paint loss. This method can be adopted as a helpful implement for tuning our colour perception.

A comparative interdisciplinary study of gilding techniques and materials in two Portuguese Baroque “talha dourada” complexes

The gilded polychrome carved wood in Portugal, (talha dourada) gained its most rich expression during the Baroque epoch with the development of production techniques and the use of of gold leaf. The present paper proposes a complementary and comparative study of two important complexes of talha: one from St. Alberto’s church, integrating the visiting circuit of the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (Lisbon), and the other from church of Vale de Figueira (Santarém district). Both complexes house talha dourada’s decoration from the 18th century, that were studied through an inter-disciplinary approach, in which analytical data (optical microscopy, fluorescent stain, XRF, SEM-EDX, micro-computerized tomography, FTIR, Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionisation-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry) complement historical data.
