Evaluation of surface water resources, groundwater and use of rainwater in Quissamã/RJ

The Quissamã municipality, emancipated in 1989, is located in a micro region of Macaé/RJ. The main economic activities are veal creation, cultivation of sugar cane, coconut and pineapple. The development occurred in an accelerated and disorderly manner after the emancipation, which created greater demand for water and caused problems, as reducing water depth in the main source of supply, the Feia Lagoon. The objective is to evaluate the surface water, groundwater and rainwater in the municipality, for further work on integrated management of water resources sustainable. It was created georeferenced database for mapping, temporal monitoring of the Feia Lagoon, hydrochemical analyzes in 10 points, bacteriological analyzes in 15 points and evaluation of rainfall for use of these waters. The results of monitoring of the Feia Lagoon showed that the surface current is 173 km2 while in the past was 275 km2, resulting in a loss of 37%. The average depth was 3.0 m and 1.8 m today. Groundwater indicated the presence of non-standard elements: Al, Fe, NO2, Pb, Hg, Se, Na and only two wells suitable for human consumption, in nature, with respect to bacteriological analyzes. In the rainwater analysis the average minimum was 32.8 mm in August, ranging up to a maximum average of 216.8 mm in the month of January in seven years. In conclusion the Feia Lagoon is decreasing over time, the groundwater when captured in an appropriate manner has a low cost of treatment and despite the low rainfall are the alternative use of rainwater must be considered. The assessment of water resources is necessary for future integrated management in a sustainable manner.

Physiological characterization of sweet sorghum at different irrigation levels

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.)Moench] is an African species belonging to the same family of maize. Saccharine-type sorghum is used as raw material for bioenergy (ethanol), and has high water-use efficiency. This study aimed to characterize sweet sorghum cultivars regarding physiological characteristics at different levels of irrigation. Four cultivars tolerant to drought were evaluated: Rio, Ramada, BRS 501, and BRS 506. Treatments consisted of three water availabilities: 80%, 60%, and 40% of field capacity. The study evaluated the stomatal conductance (gs), the net photosynthetic rate (A), leaf transpiration (T), and intrinsic water-use efficiency (EIUA, A/gs). It also determined the optimal quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) of photosystem II (PSII), the quantum yield of photochemical processes in the basal PSII (Fo/Fm), and in PSII photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fo). The availability of water caused no change (P > 0,05) in transpiration in the Ramada and BRS 501 cultivars, but affected (P < 0,05) the Rio and BRS 506 cultivars, which responded positively to increased irrigation. A similar result occurred with photosynthesis, in which case the different levels of water availability had a positive influence only in the BRS 506 and Rio cultivars. The increase in irrigation resulted in an increase (P < 0,05) in stomatal conductance of the evaluated cultivars. The results of chlorophyll fluorescence showed the superiority of BRS 506, Rio, and Ramada with higher values (P < 0,05) of Fv/Fm and Fv/Fo. The different levels of water availability and cultivars did not promote (P > 0,05) change in EIUA. This methodology, common in other crops, can be used for saccharine-type sorghum in order to establish water availability in new experiments aiming at discriminating drought-tolerant cultivars.

The political movement in Campos in 1855

In 1855, a political movement erupted in the city of Campos in order to create a new province in the Brazilian Empire. The new city would be named Province of Campos dos Goytacazes, based in the city of the same name. Its territory would cover the current north-northwestern areas of Rio de Janeiro State, some cities in the Zona da Mata, and southern Espírito Santo. The project started within the sugarcane economy, which was then living a moment of glory. The southern region of Espírito Santo joined the movement, but it was aborted in both the Court House and Senate. However, the myth of the region and Campos as the capital of the province and, later, of the State of Rio de Janeiro lasted until the early 21st century.

The recovery of Brazilian economic growth and regional space restructuring in Northern Rio de Janeiro State

Rio de Janeiro State has been receiving a number of medium and large type investments, which may cause strong impacts in its productive and socio-economic structure, as they spread across several of its regions. Its Northern Region is expected to receive a significant portion of these investments, and its spatial configuration deeply impacted. In order to understand this process, this article argues that one must examine it in the context of the international integration pattern of Brazilian economy. It also points out that a territorial corridor of economic integration is being built, embodying Northern and Eastern regions.

Quilombola communities, recognition and social protection

The article discusses the integration of quilombola communities as a social protection action that emerged from the 1988 Constitution. This form is characterized by a broader scope of coverage to partially disengage the contributory model in effect since 1930. More specifically, we discuss the case of the Lapinha community, located in northern Minas Gerais. Backed by the so-called "Theory of Recognition," we conclude the article by indicating that the recognition of the remaining quilombos presupposes that they establish semantic bridges capable of taking them to identify common situations of deprivation, and hence derive means to guarantee the continuity of their struggles. On the other hand, it is important to critically analyze the processes from which government agencies can ensure public spaces of participatory parity able to generate recognition in the judicial sphere that, in addition to positive cultural valorization, may facilitate the redistribution of economic prospects.

International migration in the logic of productive restructuring: perspectives of analysis

This discussion focuses on the analysis of the contemporary and expressive Brazilian emigration flow to Spain. As one of the theoretical positions that allow the understanding of population displacements, the analytical category “work” was selected to orient the study. Based on this perspective, we argue on the impacts of work restructuring in human displacement due to job search, such as it has occurred with Brazilian immigrants in Spain since the late twentieth century.

Research, training and practice of the Social Worker: introducing a debate linked to health

The article discusses research in training and professional practice. At first, it presents an historical overview on research and knowledge production in social work, with the aim of identifying the ethical-political and theoretical-methodological "changes" experienced in this field of study. The paper also discusses the relationship between research and the current professional practice of social work, with focus on the health area. Finally, it indicates the need for research in social work to break academic tradition, and even its unidisciplinary character as, reality investigated in the health area, includes the dynamics of life.

Bachelard, The SPACE AND POETIC isomorphism Imagetics

The following essay discloses Gaston Bachelard’s principle of imagetic isomorphism and proposes it as the very foundation of the literary versant of his work. Not only does isomorphism ground his the philosopher’s reflection on the oneiric performance of the four cosmic elements, but it also sustains the phenomenological hermeneutics that launches the two poetics written by him. The constitution of a poetic space is a pledge of the tight weaving of its images. To show the literary effectiveness of this principle we present a detailed study of The Poetics of Space, unveiling the strong inner coherence of the book, which is plotted and held thanks to the imagetic isomorphism. We close our study with some comments on a short and remarkable poem by Rilke.

Hermeneutics, praxis and solidarity

This article discusses the relation between hermeneutics and praxis. This relation opens a scope for reflection and discussion that has, as a main objective, an engagement in favor of practical reason, in contrast with logical-scientific arguments. Therefore, the objective of the study is to approach praxis as thought by Gadamer, in the light of a basic philosophical aim: his claim of universality for his ontology of understanding.

Point of view of whom? A critical to search for consensus

Discuss here the search for consensus on differences in the participatory process. Consensus involves reconciling opinions of various stakeholders: citizens, government and experts. In the same citizens group the divergence of opinions is big. We sought to examine the issue within the concepts of democracy and politics, coming at the word dissent, for which differences and conflicts are the basis of democratic practice. Conflict is exactly what capitalism tries to destroy. Identified the existence, in decision process, flexible and undeniable aspects that allow citizen participation, and the necessity for empowerment of citizens to develop autonomy and to be able to participate in decisions.

Amidst embers and ashes? Notes on health in university settings

Based on a literature review, this article discusses the relationship between health and the academic environment, addressing some of the variables identified in the daily lives of two subjects: teachers and students. We wanted to explore is the presence of Burnout Syndrome among them, considering that university education tends to be seen as a moment of greater vulnerability and challenges to young people, as new and diverse tasks imposed upon them may be a source of severe stress. To this, the teaching scenario is associated, one where we can identify elements such as labor precariousness and commodification of education, capable of generating various developments, including health of teachers. This review is part of a research project started in March of 2012 at UFF/Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, in which the relevance of the theme is recognized, since the results of studies in this field may give rise to and / or strengthen the implementation of strategies to triggering a healthier environment for teaching, research and extension, covering both faculty and students
