The success in the recruitment of reef fish depends on the number of individuals who survive after larvae have entered in the reef environment. Different post-recruitment processes are responsible for the distribution of recruits and adults and consequently, for the structure of their populations. The distribution of Abudefduf saxatilis, Stegastes rocasensis, Thalassoma noronhanum, Acanthurus chirurgus and Acanthurus coeruleus recruits and adults were assessed through visual censuses in the Atol das Rocas. 13 sample stations with contrasting features were pooled in five categories: nine pools, a tidal pond formation, a patch reef formation, a sandstone reef and an algae crest. Pools were classified as connected (Barretinha, Barreta Falsa and Podes Crer) and non-permanently connected (Farol 2, Garoupinha, Cemitério, Âncoras, Abrolhos and Tartarugas) with the ocean. Non-connected pools were classified in shallow (Farol 2, Garoupinha and Cemitério) and deep (Âncoras, Abrolhos and Tartarugas). Unifactorial analysis of variance revealed that tidal ponds and pools were the most preferred categories among recruits, while the majority of adults avoided tidal ponds. Independent t-tests per groups demonstrated that the type of pool connectivity with the ocean affected the distribution of the largest part of recruits, however to a much lesser extent in the case of adults. Non-connected pool depth affected the distribution of most recruits and all adults. Migratory movements, structural complexity, reef substrate coverage, the presence of conspecifics, food availability and predator presence are post-recruitment processes that probably affected recruit and adult distribution. Depth may have also influenced A. chirurgus, A. saxatilis recruits and A. coeruleus adults to a certain extent. No A. coeruleus recruits have been observed.

The penaeid shrimp Farfantepenaeus subtilis is an important native species for fisheries industry in Brazil. Among marine shrimps of commercial importance, penaeids are recognized as a valuable resource for fishery and aquaculture in tropical and subtropical regions. However, data on these species is extremely reduced, especially concerning genetic elements involved in animal muscle growth. Therefore, aiming at identifying shrimp genes directly associated with muscle contraction in this research, beta-actin and myosin heavy chain genes of the pink shrimp F. subtilis were isolated from its muscular abdominal and partially sequenced. Shrimps collected from Pacoti estuary, Ceará, were first identified through taxonomy and, then, through DNA amplification followed by sequencing of Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I (COI) and 16S. From fresh shrimp tissues, total RNA was extracted and complementary cDNA was obtained. Based on specific primers designed after sequence alignments performed against sequences at GenBank/NCBI, genes were amplified from RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase - polimerase chain reaction) and sequenced. A 760bp partial F. subtilis beta-actin cDNA fragment was obtained, while the partial F. subtilis myosin heavy chain cDNA was 570bp long. Sequence analyses using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) program indicated that F. subtilis beta-actin gene product is very similar to betaactin of other species of shrimps, while the myosin heavy chain protein is highly homologous to crustacean myosins heavy chain, confirming the identity of the isolated gene sequences. Alignment of these gene sequences with other sequences in GenBank showed high similarity with Penaeus monodon (93%) and Farfantepenaeus paulensis (88%). Results have showed the feasibility of partial gene identification as a means to identify genes of strategic interest. These data would help further attempts to elucidate the complete isolation of these genes, as well as the detection of other important genes, especially from shrimp species occurring at the Brazilian coast. Genes analyses involved with muscle growth might provide important genetic information on native species that are overexploited and may be viable for the shrimp cultivation. In addition, these data might also benefit the scientific community, improving a range of research areas such as physiology, phylogeny and evolution of penaeids

A technical and economic analysis tilapia, Orechromis niloticus, juvenile production on a small scale in the state of Ceara. The technical analysis was restricted to the production and handling, compared to its initial design and actual situation. The economic analysis was divided into three parts: measures of economic outcomes, financial analysis and sensitivity analysis. To measure the economic outcomes were considered the following parameters: net income, the point of flatness, profitability ratios and profitability, ability to pay, the rate of return and spare time on invested capital, profit rate and cost-benefit ratio. In the financial evaluation, we used the parameters of the internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV) and benefit cost updated. The sensitivity analysis considered variations in market interest rates, revenues and costs for feed and fingerlings. The results were all positive, demonstrating the feasibility of production of juvenile Nile tilapia fish farming by Santa Tereza, today and over the next years

About the tension between the institutions and their "users", about strategic calls and tactical deviations, about logics and cunnings, it´s that the present work seeks be structured. Having as reference Michel de Certeau´s conceptions, this dissertation takes Abril Despedaçado film as a investigation field, trying to think about revenge practices and their effects on them involved in the family contentions. Therefore, know that does such practice an institution, analyze their constituent elements and, above all, examine the ways like it is consumed by the habitants of Riacho das Almas - place of the interior baiano, stage of the conflict between Breves and Ferreiras -, are the main objectives. The "reflexivity" made possible by the estrangement and, consequently, the interpellation of the protagonists of the death cycle, is here a reflection object too. It is important to say, that this present work leaves of the idea that the cinema, as aesthetic experience, supplies tracks for understanding the social and cultural world.

A Computer program for linear viscoelastic characterization by Prony Series

This work describes the computer implementation and the main features of a new software that characterizes viscoelastic materials. This new proposed software is based on the representation of viscoelastic functions (relaxation modulus and creep compliance) by a Prony series, which the literature has proved to be a representative and computational efficient function for viscoelastic materials. Although the Prony series has these desired characteristics, it is not an easy task to obtain it from experimental data because it involves many numerical steps, which result in a non-practical method to be performed in a common spreadsheet software. In order to avoid such difficulties, this specific software was conceived to read experimental data and promptly output the fitted Prony series in a faster way. It was comprehensively used the object-oriented approach in C++ computer language associated with open-source wxWidgets graphical library. In order to give a general overview of the implemented code, the main classes for both numerical and graphical interface are shown. The main features available on this software are: construction of master curves; collocation method and least squares method to fit Prony series; possibility to set the independent term, the time constants and the number of dependent terms of the Prony series; and interconversion between viscoelastic functions.

This paper discusses the consideration of the viscoelastic behavior of asphalt mixtures in the stress analysis of flexible pavements and presents an incremental algorithm, based on the Finite Element Method, for the analysis of viscoelastic solids. The algorithm uses the integral approach where the stress is written as a convolution integral and the rexalation modulus is represented by a Prony series. The semi-analytic solution of this convolution integral leads to an efficient incremental algorithm where the variables at the current time depend only on the values of the previous step. The algorithm is validated by using a well-known example whose analytical solution can be found by the elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle and is applied to assess the influence of the viscoelastic behavior in the mechanical response of a flexible pavement.

This paper presents the development of a pre-processor for the stress analysis of flexible pavements. The software, called PMG (Pavement Mesh Generator), generates axisymmetric meshes for the numerical analyses by the Finite Element Method (FEM). The software creates and draws the geometric model using a few data given by the user. These data include the characteristics of the pavement layers (e.g. hickness, material) and the applied load. Once the geometric model is finished, two types of mesh can be generated: a finite element mesh or a mixed mesh. The first one is created using only quadrilateral finite elements, while the other mixes quadrilateral finite elements with infinite elements. The software divides the pavement structure into regions in order to generate fine meshes near the load that is the region where there is a large stress concentration. The element size increases in a smooth manner as the region gets far away from the loaded region. The meshes generated using PMG are used in the FE analyses performed by the CAP3D system, which is a program developed by the Computer Modeling group of the Pavement Mechanics Laboratory (LMP/UFC). It is important to note that PMG generates meshes more quickly than other generic pre-processors as it is specific for pavement and requires a few input data. The use of infinite elements in the pavement analyses allows a decrease in the computational effort and a more realistic representation of the subgrade. Finally, in order to validate the system, numerical examples are presented comparing the stresses obtained using PMG and other pre-processors. The system is also used to study the effect of the discretization and the influence of the infinite elements on the FE response.
