Mandatory Retirement in Brazil

This study aimed to rise raise critical evaluations of mandatory retirement in Brazil, considering scientific articles, popular media and institutional documents. The results show that the topic is not easily found and that still lack of discussion, however is implicit in the resignation incentive programmes, discussions about ageism and intergenerational in labour contexts.

Marco female aging, Menopause: her experience in a literature review

Stages or periods mark the lives of women, with concrete and objectives milestones, which indicate the different passages of his life, one of those phases menopause, which is when the woman, aged 40 to 60 years (or middle-aged), has cessing of reproductive capacity - very relative and particular repercussions, but significant in its subjective effects, and that unfold, positively or negatively, to old age. This study aims to know the production related to the perception of women's knowledge about menopause, which impacts that are related, how these can be tackled and, from there, reinterpreted. It is a descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach, the literature review type, accompanied by some reflective unfolding, and realized from certain inclusion criteria: studies that specifically address the proposed theme; in Portuguese; in the form of articles available in its entirety on the selected databases; restricted the publication period of the last fourteen years (2000-2014). As a result, found 21 articles related to search and undertaken, precisely because only eight meet the cast of criteria proposed here, is that we sought unfold a little more reflections; It emphasizes that it is important, above all, that women have access to scientific health information so they can understand the aging process, changes of menopause, and continue preparing for its entry into Old Age.

Whom will be my son wiyh? A concern of parents who are aging and have no one to take care of their sons with Down syndrome, who are also aging

This article discusses the foremost concern of the elderly parents of persons with Down Syndrome who are also aging and will not have where or whom be in case of their parents die earlier. The family is the basis of all persons with Down syndrome, and it is at your side every day. However often there is no one else besides the parents, whether relatives or institutions that are able to welcome these people with the same level of attention and care needed. It was adopted a qualitative methodology, transversal and descriptive, with collecting and analyzing data, consisting of interviews with relatives of people with Down Syndrome, after being adopted parameters and criteria of choice, both of the interviewees (family) and the evaluated (people SD) in the pursuit of ideal sampling of data and findings.

The care of the elderly and intergenerational relations

This systematic review aimed to evidence the national and international literature care provided to elderly carried out by grandchildren. The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren and care given can be understood as a mutually supportive relationship or codependency in different family contexts. Even with frequent and said to the main family support in the elderly care, there are few records about the care provided by their grandchildren; emphasizes the need to promote studies on such aspect.

Ageing with emotional, mental and physical health through Informational Quantum Homeostasis

This article aims to present a new vision of health concept by eliminating the causes of breakdown of homeostasis in the informational level. Initially, the study was based on observation of treatment of 2.500 cases and currently reach the number of 7.320 people treated. We hope this article contribute to the paradigm shift in search of simplification of treatment processes, and to contribute to the field of Applied Gerontology through the care of the elderly so that they can grow old with emotional health, mental and physics.

The importance of physical exercises for healthy ageing. A literature review

The present study aims to emphasize the role of physical exercises on health care in older adults. Manuscripts published between 2009 and 2014 in PubMed were included. Search terms were “strength training”, “training”, “elderly”, “endurance”. Only studies written in English were chosen. Firstly, 165 manuscripts were detected, then 39 were selected and discussed on the present review. Most of the studies demonstrated that muscle strengthening exercise resulted in significant increases in muscle function and mass gain. Keywords: Aging; Health of the elderly; Exercise.

Monitoring strategy of organic fatigue in a group of elderly cardiac patients entered in the cardiac rehabilitation program

This study aimed to identify the occurrence of fatigue, sleep quality and morphology of oxidative stress in 11 patients with heart disease who underwent physical therapy intervention for physical and functional rehabilitation. This is an observational, longitudinal and convenience sample. The results showed that cardiac rehabilitation programs are fundamental to changes in lifestyle and reduction of new cardiovascular events. We conclude that elderly patients with coronary artery disease undergoing cardiac rehabilitation program based on kinesiotherapy intervention, contain no organic fatigue, with a good quality of sleep, under oxidative stress ranging between normal, mild or moderate levels.

Leisure and men's participation in elderly groups of Florianópolis (SC): reasons and meanings

This survey was carried out in order to analyze leisure and participation of older men in five Elderly Groups of Florianópolis (SC). Issues of Elderly men entrance, remain, established relationships with other group members, and the meaning they give to their participation were evaluated. Thirty eight men participated in the study. Interviews and observations were used. Men seek the groups for leisure and social relations. The reasons for remaining were focused on friendships. Multiple meanings were attributed to participation in the groups.

A review of studies about the elderly mastication

Purpose: to carry out an review of mastication of elderly. Methods: search for articles of the chewing in elderly, from the databases Lilacs, SciELO, Web of Science and MEDLINE. Results: Nineteen studies have been selected. Two methodological resources have been the most used ones: objective evaluation and self-perception interviews. The masticatory capacity investigated, most of the times, classified as unsatisfactory. Hospitalizations due to falls among elderly Brazilians and related costs under the Public Health System

The aim of this research was to analyze the hospitalizations for falls among elderly Brazilians and related costs under the Public Health System. Directed study of secondary data published by the Ministry of Health online form by the Department of Health System Information, related to morbidity due to falls involving elderly residents in Brazil from 2005 to 2010. The data analysis was made through descriptive statistics (absolute frequencies and percentages) according to the variables: gender, age, health macro-regions, average time hospital stay and hospital admission authorization value paid (AIH). 399,681 hospital admissions were analyzed by falls in elderly Brazilians, and 59.781% occurred in females. The total value of AIH paid was R $ 464,874,275.91, and that total 59.66% of these expenditures were intended to females. We realize the importance of health professionals as health promoter in order to support falls prevention policies.

Previous habits physical activity and recreation dance practitioners in the elderly

The dance have been considered a strong ally to health promotion, the dance provide learning with varied rhythms and instigate the participation of the elderly public. The aim of this study was to analyze the previous history and current habits of physical activity and leisure in elderly practitioners dance of a university outreach program. For data collection was used diagnosis record, semi-structured interviews and field diary. It was observed that the dance was present in the life course of most participants, with benefits biopsychosocial at different stages. It is understood that the dance, when practiced throughout life, can contribute to active aging.

March and balance in institucionalized elderly: evaluation pre and post exercises program

Human aging must be understood in all its breadth and totality, since it is a universal biological phenomenon with psychological and social consequences of the most diverse, featuring a stage of life. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the gait and balance pre institutionalized elderly and post exercise program. This is a quasi-experimental study involving 15 elderly residents in a long-stay institution for the Elderly located in Passo Fundo/RS. The elderly were assessed using the Tinetti Index. To compare the variables we used the Wilcoxon test, adopting a significance level of 5% (p ≤ 0,05).

The document analysis revealed that, the elderly were portrayed with apparent positivity and sensationalism. Such representations were supported by the atmosphere unleashed by the own event with international dimension.

Factors that hinder the non-adherence to regular physical activity in elderly adults

A mixed method study with a qualitative approach that implement the snowball technique. The study was developed in Bahia, Brazil, between January/2014 and September/2015. It was aimed at identifying the factors that lead people to non-adherence to regular physical activity. The results showed that the reasons were related to health problems, difficulty in getting a medical certificate, unavailability because of family demands and low motivation. Quality of life among undergraduate students of Gerontology

This study aims to compare the Quality of Life (QOL) of undergraduates in Gerontology of Federal University of São Carlos, in the periods of the course. 105 students participated in the study. To analyze QOL was used the WHOQOL-BREF instrument. It was found that the perception of QOL of undergraduates in Gerontology was satisfactory in all domains of the WHOQOL-BREF. Regarding the perception of QOL according the year of the course, the students of 2nd year showed higher impairment of QOL.

Senior practitioners of Hatha Yoga: Evaluation of the Quality of Life related to Health

The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life related to health of elderly practitioners of Hatha Yoga. This study was done with 29 elderly practitioners of Hatha Yoga. The elderly were interviewed with the application of a characterization tool and the SF-36. The results show good average scores of HRQoL in the categories of the instrument used. The conclusion, therefore, is that the elderly practitioners of Hatha Yoga had higher average scores of HRQoL, except for the dimensions Pain and Vitality.
