Social protection of old age in Portugal. The particular case of nursing homes
The policy of care in old age is related to sociodemographic changes, transformations in family structure and dynamics, the individualization of social relations, centered on autonomy and independence. These changes provide an "unprotection" to the elderly, associated with other risks, namely the greater probability of chronic and incapacitating diseases, the need for care, in a time of shortage of available family caregivers, the greater probability of insufficient income, low level of schooling and lack of access to information, associated to scarce levels of social participation. This article intends to present the reflection about old age as a social problem, carried out during the research on the Promotion and Preservation of Dignity in the context of care in nursing homes, carried out in the context of the PhD in Nursing of the University of Lisbon.

Quality of life: comparison between the elderly in a Brazilian community and the institutionalized elderly
The objective of this study was to compare the quality of life among elderly people living in a Brazilian community, and elderly people living in long - term care institutions. It is a comparative, cross-sectional and quantitative study. The institutionalized elderly showed statistically significant lower scores in all domains of quality of life when compared to the elderly living in the community. Living in a long-term institution seems to be a factor that compromises the quality of life of the elderly living there.

Relationship of the thoracic kyphosis degree with the levels bone mineral density older women
The objective of this study was to mesure the kyphosis thoracic degree in older women through Flexicurve method, correlating this finding with Bone Densitometry, habits of life and anthropometric characteristics. 100 women who had undergone the examination of DMX were selected and divided into 3 groups according to the level of bone mineral density (BMD): the normal, osteopenic and osteoporotic. Was carried out assessing the degree of thoracic kyphosis with Flexicurve method. Variables: degree of kyphosis; BMD; age; and anthropometric data were compared between groups and compared with the habits of life. The group with osteoporosis showed significant differences in age, weight and BMI. No significant difference was observed related to lifestyle variables. The participants with osteoporosis showed higher degree of thoracic kyphosis in normal stance, but with no significant difference between groups. There was also no correlation between the variables. Aging, decreasing body weight and BMI are connected to the osteoporosis process. Flexicurve was not able to differentiate the older in the level of BMD.

Education in Gerontology: Interdisciplinarity in theory; what about in practice?
It is well known that the study of aging is not an isolated practice, exclusive of one professional specialty, therefore, to meet the needs of such an heterogeneous group, different views and types of knowledge must converge. This research aims to verify if interdisciplinarity is truly present in gerontology postgraduate programs offered in Brazil, in 2015, through the analyses of the curricular matrices.

The kitchen and the elderly: universal design of environment and products
We perform a literature review to show the importance of universal design in designing the kitchen environment and some kitchen utensils, focusing on the elderly user. As such, we argue about the importance of the built environment for the elderly and particularly of the kitchen. We also provide examples of universal design solutions for the kitchen and some of its utensils. At the end, we discuss the relevance of this study for an aging society.

Silver Economy, Gerontechnology and Health Economic-Industrial Complex in Brazil: a new- developmentalist vision
This article analyzes the concepts of "Health Economic-Industrial Complex" (Gadelha, 2006) and "Silver Economy" or “Longevity Economy” (Felix, 2007), with the intention of set up its points of intersection which regard to an industrial policy, focused on health and long-term care for the elderly people. It is argued that, faced with population aging, these sectors are strategic in global competition and in the Brazilian foreign trade insertion. From a Marxian-Schumpterian-ECLAC perspective, the proposal for the construction of an economic-industrial complex of health and care is presented. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the macroeconomic limitations and possibilities of the two concepts to be promising in Brazil, which is done in the light of the New-Developmentalism theory (Bresser-Pereira, 2015).

The processes of Social Inclusion, Education and Health: a qualitative analysis of the elderly deaf people of the Distrito Federal
This research arises from the accompaniment of this growing number of deaf people who are now in this phase of life and are facing various difficulties regarding access to these legal institutions. The research consisted of a qualitative and descriptive study, through a semistructured interview, filmed in Libras and transcribed into Portuguese. For the content analysis, the MAXQDA software was used, based on the Bardin (2011) content analysis system. The results showed that the majority of society does not know Libras and is not prepared for this type of communication. It is hoped that the result of this research will present a singular look at the problems experienced by the elderly deaf people, and that it will serve as a support for institutions aimed at serving this portion of society.

Seniors in life: How important is to give value to the elderly in the labor market from the point of view of the "An Internship" Movie
This study addressed the importance of the valorization of the elderly in the labor market through the analysis of the film "An Internship" and a field research. The reflection on the film served as the basis for the formulation of a questionnaire. Burden in elderly patient care with dementia
Due to the population ageing, the chronic- degenerative diseases have grown. The dementias have been highlighted because of the cognitive progressive loss that compromises the performance on the daily activities, reducing the autonomy and the independence matter. The responsibility for the care provided changes the caregivers’ routine, causing physical and emotional distress. Objectives: evaluate the level of burden taken by the caregivers of patients with dementia and its factors, characterize the patients and caregivers’ samples and identify the daily activities compromised by the dementia. Method: descriptive report, exploratory, approved by the Ethic Committee in Research/ FAMERP statement #358.178, held from September to December in 2013, with 31 caregivers of patients with dementia, assisted in a reference hospital ambulatory. The caregivers signed the Open Consent and Post Clarification Form, being submitted to questionnaires appliances: Caregiver from Zarit Overburden Scale and semi-structured interviews. Results: As the framework of dementia increases, there is an elderly autonomy and independence reduction. Fisher Exact Test showed a significant statistic in the reduction of leisure activities performance, by the elderly, before and after the state of dementia (p=0,0181). Among the evaluated caregivers, the feminine genre prevailed, with an average of 53±12,4 and the reduction of leisure activities performance, by the caregivers, before and after they undertook the position of informal caregiver (p=0,0078). Conclusion: the reduction or cancellation of the leisure activity on the daily life implies in these caregivers quality of life, which can be emphasized by the presented burden. The data points to a necessity of attention from the health multidisciplinary team to these caregivers, including the occupational therapist, and enables a reflection about a relevant subject: the care for the caregiver.
