Efeito do cobre e do selenito de sódio no estresse oxidativo, proteínas séricas e carga parasitária de cordeiros infectados experimentalmente por Haemonchus contortus

This study aimed to evaluate the oxidative status and electrophoresis of sheep experimentally infected with Haemonchus contortus and supplemented with selenium and copper. We used 28 Corriedale and Texel crossbred lambs were divided into four groups with seven animals each: G1 consisted of animals infected with larvae of G2 were infected with larvae in lambs supplemented with 0.2 mg / kg body weight (LW) of sodium selenite intramuscular (IM), G3 were infected with larvae and supplemented with 3.5 mg / kg BW of copper by subcutaneous (SC); G4 consisted of animals infected with larvae and supplemented with 0.2 mg / kg BW IM sodium selenite and 3.5 mg / kg LW SC copper. All groups were infected orally with 500 L3 larvae of Haemonchus contortus per animal every other day for a period of twenty days from the day zero. The blood samples used for biochemical analysis were collected on days zero (T0), 20 (T1), 40 (T2), 60 (T3) and 80 (T4) by jugular venipuncture using vacutainer tubes®. Weights and determination of eggs per gram of feces of animals occurred in these experimental times. The gradual increase in catalase and TBARS values in all groups showed oxidative stress and inflammation due to parasitic infection. There was an increased activity of GSH-Px in G2 at T0, T1 and T4 as compared to G1 and T4 when compared with G3. Selenium supplementation promoted a greater antioxidant activity in parasitized animals. The use of copper caused an increase in weight gain of experimental animals. The use of sodium selenite associated with copper was more effective in increasing levels of total protein, albumin and gamma globulin in T4, which were also obtained the lowest FEC and worm burden.

Clonidina ou sufentanil epidural em cães submetidos à ovário-histerectomia

The objective of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular, respiratory and analgesic effects of epidural clonidine and sufentanil associated with halothane anesthesia and in the immediate postoperative period. In order to study this, twenty female dogs, healthy, among 10 to 20 kg from the routine of Veterinary Hospital of UFSM underwent ovario-histerectomy. The dogs were distributed in two groups. One received epidural clonidine and other received epidural sufentanil. In the P0 period (baseline values), heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), hemoglobin saturation (SatO2), respiratory rate (RR) and temperature (T°C) were measured, also heart rhythm was evaluate and collected the first sample of arterial blood to gas analysis (P0G). Two another samples of arterial blood were collected, one 30 minutes after epidural (P1G) and other four hours after epidural (P2G) to analyze pH, parcial arterial press of CO2 (PaCO2), parcial arterial press of O2 (PaO2), hemoglobin saturation (SatO2), base excess (BE), bicarbonate (HCO3) and total CO2 (TCO2). In the P1 (15 minutes after epidural) and in the other periods (P2, P3 and P4 at 15 minutes intervals until the end of the procedure) were measured HR, RR, SatO2,, SAP, tidal volume (VT) and minute ventilation (VE), heart rhythm, T°C and halothane concentration release from the vaporizator (V%). As for the level anesthetic, 0,5 to 1 V% were diminished in each measure. Passed one hour to the end of the surgery was realizated the first pospoperative avaliation of analgesia, repeated each hour during five hours of postoperative by the modificated Firth&Haldane scale. The results show that epidural clonidine and epidural sufentanil provide adequated intra-operative analgesia with minimal cardiovascular and respiratory effects associated with halothane anesthesia in dogs undergoing ovario-histerectomy and adequate analgesia in the immediate postoperative period, with sufentanil exhibiting lesser punctuation by the scores obtained by the modificated Firth&Haldane scale

Sensibilidade de perus (Meleagridis gallopavo) às diferentes doses de aflatoxinas na dieta

The aim of this research was to evaluate the performance of turkey poults fed crescent doses of aflatoxins in the diet during the first 42 days of life. Three hundred and thirty six one-day-old, male turkey poults were randomly divided into seven treatments, as follows: T1= control; T2= 20 ppb of total aflatoxins; T3= 50 ppb; T4= 100 ppb; T5= 200 ppb; T6= 500 ppb; T7= 1,000 ppb. Turkeys were kept in cages and euthanized in two periods: half the birds at 21 days of experiment and the remaining birds at 42 days of experiment. Parameters evaluated were feed consumption, body weight, organs relative weight (liver, heart, gizzard and bursa of Fabricius), relative weight of meat (thighs and breast), and clinical biochemical parameters (total plasmatic proteins, albumin, uric acid, cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline Phosfatase). At 21 days of age, both feed consumption (R= -0.98) and body weight (R= -0.85) were significantly affected (P=0.00) by the presence of aflatoxins in the diet. Relative weight of gizzard (R=0.50), total proteins (R= -0.87), and cholesterol (R= -0.73) levels were also significantly affected by the aflatoxins present in the diet. At 42 days of age feed consumption (R= -0.96), body weight (R= -0.84), relative weight of gizzard (R=0.64), relative weight of liver (R=0.63), and cholesterol levels (R=0.71) were all significantly affected by the presence of aflatoxins in the diet. These results show that aflatoxins interfere significantly in several productive and biological parameters in turkey poults.
