The developments of Analytical Mechanics which culminated on the elaboration of F = ma
Newton's law and F = ma are different principles. About sixty years of conceptual and mathematical developments were necessary for the Second Law of Motion could be elaborated, around 1752 to 1776, by Leonhard Euler. In this research, we discuss the main factors referring to the construction of this law, which made possible for Euler, and no other, to obtain the Second Law of Motion, as we know it today. We also discuss what was being done in mechanics at early eighteenth century and how it contributed for the elaboration of the conceptual bases, thus making possible the emergence of the Second Law of Motion as a general principle of mechanics, such as the search for generalization of principles, the introduction of analytical mechanics, with new techniques and mathematical tools, the study of certain problems, the unification of concepts and the elaboration of alternative bases for mechanics, like the variational principles. These achievements contributed so that Euler could refine and extend Newton’s Law to much larger degree of problems.

The debate on external validity in experimental economy
We focus on the debate on the external validity of lab results in the area of experimental economics. More specifically, we focus on Colin Camerer’s and John List’s views, who postulate opposite positions on the issue. The problem is that they partially analyze the same empirical evidence and draw from it opposite conclusions. The goal of this work is to analyze such empirical evidence to try to explain the difference in interpretation of results. We argue that the dispute in interpretations can be expressed in terms of difference of criteria used to determine external validity. From our analysis we propose the formulation of different types of external validity.

Terminology theories: Description, prescription and explanation
Over the past decade, terminology theory has been the subject of discussion in various circles. This article investigates some of the reasons why this topic has been receiving so much attention recently. First, I will discuss Wüster's theory and analyze the motivations behind his model. Next, I will explain why the Wüsterian theory has not been questioned or confronted for so long. This will allow us to understand why so many critical voices have emerged in recent times, both inside and outside of traditional perspectives. I will also note the reception these new ideas have received in the circles of terminology. Finally, I will present my own definition of a theory of terminology by examining important issues, such as what points such a theory should take into consideration and what I have to offer for this discussion.

Formation of productive enterprises in the context of public policies
This article presents the results of the follow-up process of the professional qualification and development of a productive enterprise from January to July 2001. Such an enterprise arose from a project designed by the “Prefeitura Municipal de Florianópolis” (Florianópolis City Hall) and was carried out by the “Divisão de Capacitação Profissional” (Professional Qualification Division) – the public organ responsible for work and income generation in the municipality.

Future Physics teacher answers on aspects related to medical diagnostic imaging exams
Assuming that one of the possible ways of teaching topics of Modern and Contemporary Physics is to address aspects of the operation of contemporary technological artifacts, we structure this work from two questions: how future physics teachers produce meanings from a teaching unit on medical imaging exams? And how can the development of a teaching unit on medical imaging exams contribute to the future physics teachers’ representations about some concepts and notions associated with Modern and Contemporary Physics? To answer them, we take as support notions of Discourse Analysis divulged and/or produced by Eni Orlandi and analyze answers given by two future physics teacher throughout the development of the aforementioned teaching unit in classroom. The analysis showed that the teaching of the topic medical imaging exams can work as condition for the production of meanings on notions related to Modern and Contemporary Physics, such as radiation, radioactivity and spin, providing to the future teachers the production of meanings coherent with the currently accepted scientific interpretations.

The Abstract Punishment and the Concrete Punishment: effectiveness of the structure of the institutional cruelty for the absence of the right
This article aims to analyze the role of prison sentences and his real execution in the Brazilian jail. The methodology used in this study is based on qualitative analysis, reason why the hypothetical-deductive and dialectical method of historical-logical analysis, by means of primary documentary sources and the review of Brazilian literature. In this way, the authors demonstrate how the absence of the law can generate a cruel system that potentiates the punishment of the imprisoned citizens, since it seems that the jail does not present itself at present as a social instrument more adequate to the recovery of the self-consciousness of the transgressor.

A deductive-nomological model for mathematical scientific explanation
I propose a deductive-nomological model for mathematical scientific explanation. In this regard, I modify Hempel’s deductive-nomological model and test it against some of the following recent paradigmatic examples of the mathematical explanation of empirical facts: the seven bridges of Königsberg, the North American synchronized cicadas, and Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian systems. I argue that mathematical scientific explanations that invoke laws of nature are qualitative explanations, and ordinary scientific explanations that employ mathematics are quantitative explanations. I analyse the repercussions of this deductivenomological model on causal explanations.
