Marshallius bondari, a new species of Hylobiinae (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) is described from Nova Soure, Bahia, Brazil. Illustrations of the male and the female genitalia and a short bionomic information are given.

Description of five new species of Rivulus from Paraná and São Francisco rivers basins (Cyprinodontiformes, Rivulidae) and a key to identification of the especies from Central Brazil, are given.

This work constitutes a systematic survey of the Annelida Polychaeta from the sublitoral of the São Paulo State coast (Ubatuba), southeast Brazil. From 105 identified species, 20 are new records for the brazilian coast. An analysis of affinity degree between the fauna of the studied region and of the adjacents biogeographic provinces shows that 25,5% of the species are endemic for the Paulista Province, 19,0% amphi-american, 17,0% cosmopolite and 16,8% amphi-atlantic. An affinity with species from the Patagonian (7,4%) and Caribbean (2,0%) Provinces is smaller than that of other authors, for the southeast Brazilian coast.

A key to adults of 40 of the 49 known species of Philornis is presented.

Dissections of the soft parts of the molluscs from several States of Brazil led to identification of Bradybaena similaris (Férussac, 1821) and disclosed previously undescribed anatomical characteristics of that species. Confirmation of the occurrence of the species in the country is important because of the role it plays as an intermediate host in the life cycle of certain parasites of domesticated animals, as well as considered pest of cultivated plants. Bionomical notes on the species in Brazil are included.

This note deals with the sex identification of the velvet cichlid (oscar), Astronotus ocellatus (Cuvier), through the shape ofthe urogenital opening.

Effect of mixtures of some foods on egg production in the fruit fly Anastrepha obliqua. Several diets based on mixtures of different foods (brewer's yeast Boneg, wheat germ Boneg and gevral Lederle) were tested for their effect on egg production in Anastrepha obliqua. The best results were obtained with the mixture of brewer's yeast and wheat germ.

Additaments to the tribe Aerenicini. II. Revision of the genus Apagomerina Gilmour, 1962. New species are described from Brazil: A. flava sp. n. (São Paulo) and A. utiariti sp. n. (Mato Grosso). A key to the species is added.

Study of 179 specimens of Molossus molossus in Ceará, Brazil, showed morphological and functional ovarian asymmetry in adult females, with the right side more developed. Blastocyst implantation occurred also in the right uterine horn. Active male testicles were bigger (x = 5,38mm) than inactive ones (x = 3,25mm). Pregnancy with subsequent offspring was found in March-April and November, during the wet season.

A new species of Phalloniscus Budde-Lund, 1908 (Crustacea, Oniscoidea) is described: Phalloniscus loyolai sp.n. from Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil.

Fannia pamplonae sp.n. from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is describe (Diptera, Fanniidae).

The use of a commercial fruit fly trap, baited with atractive compounds, for the collection of male euglossine bees is described. Some of the preliminary results obtained are presented.

A cladistic analysis for 27 muscid genera is given, running the PAUP program (SWOFFORD, 1985). The 35 characters used in this study are polarized based on three outgroups of related families. A cladogram showing hypothetical phylogenetic relationships among genera and a discussion of the characters enable to propose a sequencial phylogenetic classification of Muscidae at tribal level. The following seven subfamilies and eight tribes are included: Achanthipterinae; Atherigoninae; Muscinae, with Muscini and Stomoxiini; Azeliinae, with Azeliini and Reinwardtiini; Phaoniinae; Mydaeinae, with Graphomyiini and Mydaeini and Coenosiinae, with Coenosiini and Limnophorini. Helina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 has not a defined position in the obtained cladogram to the considered levels. The neotropical species of Phaonia (aut.) must be separated in a new genus. The proposed classification is compared with contemporaneous classifications. The greatest congruence is found with that of SKIDMORE (1985).

In this papaer immature stages of Rhescyntis pseudomartii Lemaire, 1980 are described with notes about the variation in the fourth and fifth instars.

The following new species are described: Vidius xanthus from São Paulo and Minas Gerais; Vidius catarinae from Santa Catarina; Cobalopsis monotona from Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and Cobalopsis similis from Maranhão, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Espírito Santo and Bahia.

A nest of Paratrigona myrmecophila Moure, found in a nest of Camponotus senex (Fr. Smith), is described. Besides records on nest structures, some notes on interspecific interactions, nest defense, population size, honey organoleptic properties, and comments on the coexistence of these two organisms are provided.

A new species of Pygmy-Owl, genus Glaucidium, is described from the Amazonian forest. It is separated from G. minutissimum, now restricted to South-eastern Brazil and Central America, by its voice and shorter tail. The type-locality is from Rondônia, but the species seems widespread, with geographical races awaiting description from northern Pará, Northeastern Brazil, and possibly Central America. A detailed survey of this overlooked canopy-living Pygmy-Owl is under way.

Smilidarnis gen. n. (type-species: Smilidarnis fasciatus sp. n.) from Aguaytia, Peru and S. concolor sp. n. from Rio de Janeiro, Corcovado, Brazil are described and illustrated.
