Day center for the elderly and psychoeducation: interventions in the group of professional caregivers and in their relationship with the old people

This research, descriptive and sectional, aimed to present psychoeducational interventions in the group of professional caregivers and in their relationship with the elderly in a Day center for the elderly. The experience showed that caring can be rewarding, but professional unpreparedness or lack of support can generate physical and emotional burden for the caregiver, with an outcome for mental health. Thus, interventions with caregivers have been fundamental in sharing knowledge, raising awareness of old age phenomena, providing professional development, which sustains and promotes quality in personal and provided care. Secondarily, it generated therapeutic effects through the expression of members' emotions and emotional continence in the group field.Key words:

The challenges faced by elderly people in the pandemic – some reflections

Aging is a challenging process for any individual, either because of the many normative transitions that imply an increasing physical, psychological and social vulnerability, or because of the imminent confrontation with one's finitude. Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenge has become a nightmare especially for LTCF residents, who are even more vulnerable due to the risks of contagion and the impact of the severe and prolonged physical and social isolation they are subjected to. This article explores such an impact under a biopsychosocial dimension, in particular, proposing theoretical foundations for an analysis of the impact of the feelings of threat and loss experienced in an intense and prolonged way in this phase of the life cycle. The Theory of Attachment is used, a contemporary approach that, supported by concepts from Psychology and Ethology, developed the conceptual structures necessary to understand the impact of threats and dangers on human development and, therefore, to understand the effects of the pandemic on seniors.

Association between cardiovascular diseases and signs/symptoms of climacteric in women treated at a Basic Health Unit

The present study aimed to evaluate the association of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in women during the climacteric / menopause period of a Basic Health Unit in the city of Canoas / RS, Brazil. This study is descriptive and exploratory. Data collection took place after the project was approved by the Ethics Committee (CAAE 86378818.1.0000.5349). All participants signed the Free and Informed Consent Form (ICF). The instruments used were: the sociodemographic questionnaire; the questionnaire validated for Portuguese “Menopause Rating Scale (MRS)” and three open questions that questioned whether they used medications and whether they were used continuously, as well as whether they had cardiovascular disease and their perception of the climacteric / menopause phase. Associations were analyzed using Spearman's correlation test, with a significance level of 5% (p <0.05) and using the SPSS version 21.0 program. Regarding the sociodemographic results of the sample, the average age of women was 53.3 ± 8.2, of these 99 (48.5%) have primary education, only 98 (48.0%) work and 196 (96.0) %) of these women have children. The percentage of women treated for cardiovascular disease was 42.16%. The prevalent CVDs with diagnosis were angina, dyslipidemia, heart failure and hypertension. Estrogen deficiency is still little discussed today, being only one cycle in the life of women, but it triggers morphological and physiological changes and interferes with the cardiovascular system. For this reason, this topic deserves special attention from public policies.
