The conception of pre-service students about biosafety on teachers’activities for teaching practices on science and biology

Biosafety sets the necessary parameters and guidelines to all educational levels when it comes to performing Natural Sciences-related experimental practical activities in the laboratory and in the field, in order to minimize the risks of accidents when handling animals, sharp objects and toxic substances. Aiming at knowing future Science and Biology teachers’ conceptions about Biosafety applicability, we analyzed conceptual maps and answers to questions regarding cautions and alternatives related to experimental practices. It was found that the subject is little explored during teachers’ trainings. It is necessary to enlarge the knowledge on the subject during the training periods or do it by means of guidelines that discuss and guide teachers and students in the fundamental and/or higher education levels on caution procedures to minimize accident risks and set alternatives to teaching activities in practical classes.

Teachers’ comprehensions about approaches of biotechnologies in chemistry teaching

As we take the federative unity of Mato Grosso do Sul for example, which is marked by the large production of transgenic soy, we intended to research the relations established between biotechnologies and chemistry teaching by high school chemistry teachers from Campo Grande. The qualitative research was a Comparative Study Case-type, relying on interviews with one teacher from a country school and two teachers from a urban school. Their speeches were entirely transcript and analyzed by means of Discursive Textual Analysis, highlighting that teaches do not approach deeply the biotechnologies in their classes, due to the complexity of this knowledge. The teachers training and closer relations with universities are pointed out as means to enable the teaching of this theme which is socially defying and technologically polemical.

Applications for teaching differential

This paper fits the area of Mathematics Education at Higher Education, especially the area of studies concerning the teaching and learning of Differential and Integral Calculus. It is presented two applications for the differential equation solutions, theoretically referenced by the notion of local straightness, formulated by David Tall. The first application is explored the notion of slope field. The second one is adapted a situation developed by English researcher for a sketch of a solution curve of a differential equation. The development of these applications is based on the need to integrate theory and practice in the field of mathematics education and to produce materials for teaching, based on research results. It is expected that such applications to promote development of rich concepts images in the student, in the relation to the treaty mathematical concept.
