HOSPITAL CARE FOR THE MENTALLY ILL SUBJECT IN CASES OF SUICIDE ATTEMPT: WAYS AND DETOURS

The objective of this study was to investigate how a subject who attempted suicide apprehends the sequence or suspension of the treatment and the follow-up procedure. It is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, developed with patients referred and referenced by an emergency service for specialized centers (CAPS) of the Health Network, in the city of Santa Cruz do Sul, RS, Brazil. Eleven subjects who attempted suicide were interviewed, averaging the age of 41 years. From the analysis resulted the identification and classification of three categories: the voice that gives meanings to the reality of the act, the follow-up care as a choice and understanding and the suspension of the follow-up as a decision. The feelings reported by the subjects express meanings, intensities and dimensions of the act of attempting to put an end to their lives. The difficulties encountered in the continuity of the treatments pictures the health professionals’ lack of qualification and preparation, both from specialized centers, and, especially from the emergency service.

IN THE CRACK OF THE DAWN: THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PSYCHOANALYTIC CLINIC

This paper is the effect of a psychoanalytic clinical care performed during the supervised training program in the Psychology course at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), presented as an assistance report. The study will hold the presentation of the case and later on some theoretical notes will be made from the perspective of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis. The choice of the fictitious name Aurora (which means dawn in Portuguese), refers to a metaphorical approach of the rising of the day, to the subject’s birth. The main objective of this clinical report is to forward a discussion that points to how the subject deals with the ascent to his/her place of a desiring being. More specifically, the discussion addresses the mother/daughter problematics reported by the patient during treatment processes. Caught up in the web of maternal signifiers, Aurora lingers to rise as a desiring subject. However, despite all the deviations, and even in the face of the impossibility of pointing to a definitive and punctual birth, throughout the listening task, we, at least, managed to catch sight of the first rays of an aurora.

LEUCEMIA NA INFÂNCIA E ADOLESCÊNCIA: REPERCUSSÕES PSICOSSOCIAIS NOS IRMÃOS SADIOS, SOB A ÓTICA DAS MÃES

The process of illness, treatment, and hospitalizations after the diagnosis of child-adolescent cancer may cause emotional impact, as well as influence the dynamics and routine of the entire family. Given this scenario, the research aimed to comprehend the possible changes in the relationships of healthy siblings, in the family, social, and school context, under the mother’s perspective. The sample consisted of 15 mothers of children and adolescents diagnosed with leukemia, with at least one healthy child. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview and, based on the theory of Content Analysis, proposed by Bardin (1977), four categories were found: repercussions of illness, family relations, social relations, and academic life. It was possible to observe that the healthy siblings experience, in a singular way, the sibling’s illness with leukemia. They presented plenty of ways of reacting and relating with each other. Mostly, they isolated themselves, approached, revolted, or demonstrated fragility in interpersonal exchanges, triggering a call for help and attention.

FROM A PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION TO A GRAVEYARD: EXAMINING THE FOUNDATION AND TRANSFORMATION OF THE “ABRIGO MUNICIPAL DE ALIENADOS OSCAR SCHNEIDER”

The present article aims to report the experience resulting from a research focused on the unveiled memories of a cemetery in the city of Joinville, Santa Catarina State (SC), in Brazil. The history about the cemetery tract of land is connected to the existence, in the past, of two institutions for the confinement of infamous subjects: A Lunatic Asylum (1923-1942) and a Prison for Politicians (1942-1945). Listening to the characters narrating their experiences linked to this place, and the flâneur’s strategies as a manner to allow oneself to be carried away when searching for the memories by what the senses are made up, were the fundamentals of the exercise of “fictionalizing” about this certain object of study, starting from a sensitive relation with this field, a “City of the Dead”, where it was possible to listen to the voices that still pulse in it and tension the history of this place and its apparent state of silence within the city.

MULHERES CRIMINOSAS E A GUERRA DAS FRONTEIRAS: UMA ANÁLISE PSICOSSOCIAL

This article discusses how, between the years of 2000 to 2013, women accused or tried for crimes were reported in Brazilian print media. The analysis covered the social construction of four subjective configurations that were present at the media scenario: the victim, the unbalanced, the first lady, and the emancipated. Against the background of the debate regarding issues of gender and the hegemonic capitalist order, cartography was adopted as a research strategy. It was concluded that the media is connected to live and tensioned fields of forces, in which both conservative and subversive gender assumptions are produced.

REDE DE APOIO NA CONCILIAÇÃO FAMÍLIA E TRABALHO: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA DE LITERATURA

The conciliation between professional activities and family life is a challenge for everybody. In face of the formation of a family and, especially, with the arrival of children, role adjustments are necessary. Therefore, the goal of this study was to understand how the interaction of work and family has been described in the scientific literature, in the context of the support network in economically active couples with the arrival of their children. This is a systematic review of the literature, including articles published between 2011 and 2016. The results reveal that the woman continues as a “multitask” member, who shares her chores better with the man compared to a few years ago, especially in caring for her children. The support network is extremely important to the family in its constitution, which is represented mainly by the spouse, grandparents, and others. Coping strategies in the family/work and work/family conflict are discussed, along with the relevance of future studies with methodological rigor.

A LÍNGUA REFÚGIO

This paper aims to think about the specificity of a clinic with refugees based on the use of the host language from the patient and the destinations in the transference. More specifically, it’s argued how the encounter with the language of the analyst, through the transferential bond, can engage one in a movement of coming and going between its original language and the host’s, that promotes the detoxification of the traumatic contents operated by its transcription in another psychic spatiality; clinical hypothesis that names this paper. Therefore, the theoretical revision of the term “translation” in the psychoanalytical bibliography is proposed, notably from the unpublished work in Brazil by Janine Altounian, paying attention to the “translating role” that the transference operates on traumatic episodes not metabolized by the psyche. A clinical vignette is then used to illustrate the theoretical discussions.

O PROCESSO PSICOTERAPÊUTICO PSICODINÂMICO DE UM MENINO COM SINTOMAS INTERNALIZANTES: UMA ANÁLISE COM BASE NO CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY Q-SET

Internalizing problems are frequent in children, but the active ingredients that make a psychotherapy effective are still poorly understood. This study aimed to analyze the psychodynamic therapeutic process of a school-age boy who presented internalizing symptoms, whose treatment was interrupted after 22 months. Participants were the patient and the therapist. The Child Psychotherapy Q-Set was used to analyze the therapeutic process. The results showed the characteristics of the therapist-patient relationship and its transformations. Factors such as family conflicts, therapeutic alliance with the parents, limitation to the ability to mentor the boy, countertransference, skills, and adjustment of the therapist to the patient impacted the therapeutic process, contributing to the observed outcome. In order to clarify the questions about the effectiveness and mechanisms of change in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and for the establishment of a consistent base of evidence, it is essential to know, in fact, what happens and how it happens in the clinical setting.

SURDEZ E PRECONCEITO: REVISANDO A PRODUÇÃO CIENTÍFICA

This study aimed to understand how deafness and prejudice have been investigated in Brazilian scientific literature. To that end, a review was carried out in the periodicals, more specifically in the Scielo and Pepsic website databases, from January 2006 to December 2016, in a total of fifteen articles were analyzed. The results and the discussion are about bibliometric and content analysis. It Is realized that the majority of the works are qualitative. Although the socio-anthropological view has gained ground, the therapeutic clinical view is still present, and, because of this, prejudices, humiliations and discrimination are felt by the deaf, who do not meet the standard of normality imposed by the majority, the listeners. It can be concluded that there is a long way to go for family members, professionals, and researchers to develop the theme and raise awareness of the population, to mitigate the prejudice that still exists.

QUAL O LUGAR EPISTEMOLÓGICO DA PSICANÁLISE?

An epistemological position is analyzed and named as Theory of the Absolute Epistemological Uniqueness of Psychoanalysis (TAEUP). It consists of the idea that psychoanalysis is not a species of any genre – it is not science, not philosophy, not art, etc. There are different reasons to justify TAEUP: 1) the discovery of a new object in the history of knowledge: the unconscious; 2) the invention of a new method: free association; 3) the invention of a new method of knowledge production: metapsychology. We carry out a critical examination of these arguments, from the perspective of Critical Freud Studies, concluding that none of the above reasons is enough to claim TAEUP. In light of a critical Freudian studies perspective, through a critical exam of these justifications, it can be concluded that none of the above reasons is sustained. Finally, we propose a different picture: psychoanalysis should not be conceived as a genderless species, but as a species belonging to several genres.

A LETRA E A ESCRITA A NÃO SE LEREM

The concept of a letter calls for a discussion about the practice of psychoanalytic interpretation. Thus, we aim to make a course about the letter and the Lacanian hypothesis that the writing is not meant to be read. We turn to a theoretical study where, at first, we deal with the signifier and the letter, as Lacan proposed in the text The instance of the letter in the unconscious, or the reason since Freud. Later, we delved into the distinction between these two concepts, aiming at the Seminar, Book 18. Finally, we discuss Lacan’s statement about the impossibility of reading the writing. Considering the role that the letter and the function of the writing assume in the field of jouissance and in the scope of an analysis, we conclude the letter is not only distinct from the signifier but also corresponds to a writing that is in the real, thus representing the incidence limit of meaning and interpretation itself.

BRIEF HISTORY ON TRANSSEXUALITY

This study aimed to investigate the phenomenon of transsexuality through historical records on the manifestations of sexuality at different times, and how these were explained in a naturalistic way. We seek to study how sex and gender were conceived in the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries, and how the scientific discourses came, in turn, to order and specify what was proper to the masculine and the feminine. We intend to investigate how the improvement of surgical and hormonal techniques have contributed to elevate transsexuality to the category of social phenomenon. We present the Queer studies in order to understand how one understands the constitution of identities within a social structure. We also discuss Judith Butler's position on the sex and gender constructs based on the binary categories. Finally, we demonstrate how the concept of gender was introduced and approached in psychoanalysis through the psychoanalyst/psychiatrist Robert Stoller. Keywords: Transsexuality. Sexuality. Queer theory. Robert Stoller.
