Mind maps and design as a teaching-learning method for the youth and adult education audience
This research aims to present the strategy of the use of mind maps in learning, having as subjects the students of Youth and Adult Education (EJA), specifically PROEJA1 students of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba - Cabedelo Campus. The first part of the research consisted of a data collection to verify students' problems, needs, and motivations regarding learning and subject specificities. From this survey, it was possible to define the ideal language to be worked on the learning object built in the second stage, which was a slide show with multimedia resources in order to assist the subjects in the construction and use of mind maps. This object was presented to students through a workshop. We use as theoretical basis the fundamentals of elaboration of mind maps suggested by BUZÁN (1996) as well as the studies of visual elements found in the design from Samara (2010 and 2011), Dondis (2007), Lupton and Phillips (2015). 1National Program for the Integration of Vocational Education with Basic Education in Youth and Adult Education

Rescuing the Portuguese handicraft heritage through digital media
In the Portuguese panorama, it is evident an inheritance of artisan techniques of high symbolic and historical value. The instruction of manual art prevails with each generation, but fears its eventual extinction by the scarcity of resources. Through this project it is intended to contribute to the revitalization of this artisanal heritage and to promote its dissemination and commercialization through digital means. More specifically, this project consists of the development of a website, in the marketplace format, dedicated exclusively to Portuguese handicraft products. This type of virtual market consists of a platform that functions as a commercial intermediary. In the platform, shopkeepers are given a space and a set of tools to support the dissemination and sale of their products (Turban et al., 2009). In this paper, we begin by describing the project; we analyze from a set of references marketplace; and we present the partial results of the platform under development in this study.

Hibridação e aventura humana
This article returns to and develops a former paper on cultural hybridization. It begins by interrelating globalisation and culture in order to show the risk of an essentialisation of identities, as opposed to the deepening of multicultural hybrids. It then argues for the “flatness” of the world, a condition to overcome hegemonic cultures and generate new architectures of a networked society made up of public spaces of communication. Likewise, it advocates a double hybridisation for Portugal: one of catching-up, another of anticipation. It also refers to the great challenges of exploring the 3+1 capitals emerging from an intelligent management of migrant flows. Finally, the article concludes with considerations on the role of human adventure towards sustainable meaning-making through cultural intercourse and multi-colouring.

Identidade e identidades na ficção televisiva nacional: 2000-2006
Over the years, television fiction – mainly the “telenovela” (soap-opera) – has been the defining agent of the programme grid carrying audiences across all channels. The telenovela’s emotional baggage and melodrama have led to far-reaching changes in the Portuguese TV market, especially since 1992 when two commercial channels started broadcasting nationally. Since then, ratings wars have taken hold, using innovative formats, new faces and the broadcast of TV series and telenovelas. In the first phase (1992-2000), the TV stations developed their programmes around Brazilian fiction, deeply ingrained in the Portuguese psyche since 1997 (“Gabriela” on RTP1) while in the second phase (2000-2006), the programming has been developed around Portuguese series and telenovelas. This volte-face in the taste tendencies leads to this article making some preliminary reflection on hypotheses about the importance of television fiction in establishing symbolic and identity borders in the Portuguese environment as of 2000.

Imagens da diferença: prostituição e realojamento na televisão
The purpose of this article is to analyse and explore how Brazilian and (Romani) gypsy women appropriate television news on (issues) themes referring to their lifestyles. The article starts by summarising the theories that have, over recent decades, studied the relationship between the media and the minorities. It then analyses two different types of news: one on prostitution, the other on the relocation of gypsy neighbourhoods, interspersing the types with each group’s appropriations. These news items are analysed using Image Theories, in its technical construction, while the appropriations were selected using the qualitative methodologies of Reception Theory. The conclusion reached is that irrespective of the time of visualization, the ways to appropriate the contents are related to the life trajectories and life stories of the women sampled, causing opposition, adherence or negotiation.

Tendências de cobertura do final de um ciclo político: Cavaco Silva (1994-1995)
This article analyses press front-page coverage of the end of Prime Minister Cavaco Silva’s last mandate (1994-1995). The empirical research focuses on two dailies (Diário de Notícias and Público) and two weeklies (Expresso and O Independente). The main hypothesis seeks to cross-reference the changes in the Portuguese news media, namely broadcasting, with the international literature about end-of-mandate periods. According to several studies, these periods demonstrate increasing conflict between political power and the news media. The empirical media analysis is carried out by SPSS.

O caso ICN: convergência entre jornalistas e fontes
The relationship between journalists and sources is not necessarily ruled by a rigid social model of opposite positions and clear antagonism. It is argued that whenever journalists share referential frames with sources in news stories that have strong militancy (like environmental news), they can both be links in the some chain, actively interested in the same outcome and perhaps fighting for the same cause.

As mulheres e os telemóveis: uma relação por explorar
The main objective of this paper is to analyse the cellphone uses and gratifications conditioned by gender. The paper is based on the main theoretical contributions made on this subject and it stands on a functional perspective and on McLuhan’s key concepts. Gender has been an underestimated variable by researchers and the industry on its product and services offer. Nevertheless, gender can help identify the future of this media. The paper also aims to make evident that women has been forgotten as communication targets and user of mobile communication, namely cellphones. It also aims at identifying the differences in appropriation between men and women.

Where are you? A heideggerian analysis of the mobile phone
This paper is an attempt at clarifying the essential contours of the phenomenon that grounds the developments in contemporary mobile communication: the mobile phone. In so doing our investigation intends to answer the question of what a mobile phone is as such. The paper presents a description of the mobile phone and its contextualisation within some of the works of Martin Heidegger (1889-1976), seeking to uncover the essential mode in which a mobile phone is what it is. Grounding our analysis on the ontology of Heidegger’s Being and Time (Heidegger 1962), we claim that the mobile phone will only show itself as what it is in its being in-the-world where mobile phones are what they are. This analysis is complemented by an exploration of the relevance of another of Heidegger’s notions, that of Ge-stell (Heidegger 1977) as the essence of modern technology, for the understanding of human involvement with mobile phones. Against this ontological background, our analysis points out being-with, bringing together and timing as the essential contours of the mobile phone, all of these suggesting the deeper notions of actual situation and of disembodiment.

Rehabilitating Observation: The Persistence of Observational Documentary in the Age of Post-Truth Politics
With the postmodernist realignment of our epistemological foundations, contemporary documentary has come to be marked by the idea that problematizing the relationship with the real is inherently good and progressive, and that the core quality of contemporary documentary has come to be its suspicion towards its own relationship to the real (Steyerl 2011; Rangan 2014; Takahashi 2015). In a time, which the assertion of the indiscernibility between fact and fiction has been appropriated by discourses of power I will argue that the facticity of reality needs our attention and care more than our suspicion. Thus, following philosophical proposals for a new empiricism (Latour 2004; Haraway 1988), and a Bazinian ontologization of cinema (Bazin 2005a, 2005b), I will argue for the persistence of observational documentary and a new critical realism set in the vein of contemporary observational documentary practises like Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Véréna Paravel’s Leviathan (2012) and Kevin Jerome Everson’s Tonsler Park (2017).
