Active and Healthy Aging: pilot result of the “VintAGEING+Happy” Intervention Program

Actions to prevent and maintain the health of the elderly, in their community and at home, should be the result of an effort of public and / or private partnerships, academia and service. The VintANGEING+Happy Program aims to carry out a multidisciplinary work of community intervention, providing scientific knowledge and contributing to the compliance with the guidelines and policies of public attention to the health of the elderly in the direction of active and healthy aging.

Intergenerationality and ICT: youth perspective of an intergenerational Program

The purpose of this paper is to present youth perspective concerning an intergenerational program with ICT. The project was developed in a Professional School and a retirement home from the same Institution. It portrays a weekly interaction between eleven students, aged from 15 to 19 and fourteen retirement home users, at Fundação Joaquim dos Santos. We emphasize the change in young people’s perspective about the elderly, during and after the Intergenerational Program development, the exchange moments and mutual learning, as well as the relationship enhancement between the different generations.

Sexuality and aging of women: an intervention of Occupational Therapy

The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of older women about their sexuality through the use of a group of activities. Longitudinal, exploratory, descriptive, interventional and qualitative study. Participated in the study six women with a mean age of 61.3 years.  The general analysis has shown that participants believe it is possible to maintain sexuality in aging and believe that the concept of sexuality goes far beyond the sexual act itself.

Evaluation of Cognition, Humor and Functional Capacity in Hospitalized Oncogeriatric Patients

The evaluation of the elderly with cancer during hospitalization allows a better understanding of he or she tolerance to cancer treatment and better care planning. The objective was to evaluate the cognition, mood and functional capacity of hospitalized oncogeriatric patients in a reference center in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. 40 individuals with câncer with aged between 60 and 82 years had participated the study. The majority of the subjects had partial dependence for activities of daily living, preserved cognition and signs of mild depression during hospitalization.

Epidemiological profile of elderly with diversified fractures, attended to in Brazilian hospitals: a literature review

The objective was to demonstrate the epidemiological profile of elderly with various fractures, hospitalized in Brazil, as well as the characterization of these fractures. It is a review of the literature through publications in the period between 2007 and 2018, composing a sample of 20 selected studies. The fracture of the femur in the elderly was evidenced due to fall of the height itself with a hospital stay of between one and three weeks. It was concluded that it is fundamental to know the profile of elderly hospitalized with fractures to direct public policies and budget allocation.

Problems related to drugs in elderly users of psychotropic drugs: an integrative literature review

An integrative review of the literature carried out in the “Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde” (BVS), sought to identify the main problems related to the use of psychotropic drugs in the elderly and propose solutions. The main problems identified were adverse reactions, risk of falls and drug interactions. Three proposals were suggested to reduce their occurrences: the adoption of an electronic prescription program, the adoption of educational measures and / or pharmacotherapeutic follow-up with these patients.

Perception of Quality of Life in Elderly: Integrative Literature Review

Brazil is experiencing a process of demographic transition because has been increasing the longevity of the human being, however, living longer does not necessarily mean living with more quality. In this sense, this study aimed to characterize the production of articles related to the quality of life (QoL) of the elderly, in the period from 2007 to 2017, in the databases SciELO and PePSIC. The integrative review was used to carry out the quantitative-qualitative descriptive study. We selected fourteen studies characterized in the categories: a) the subjective perception of QoL in old age; b) the various factors that influence QoL in old age; and c) the cognitive aspects that can intervene in the QoL of the elderly. It is concluded that there is a limited number of productions that articulate QoL in old age and Psychology, and that the subjective perception of the elderly is a significant way to learn about this phenomenon.

The home environment and its risks for falls in the elderly: an integrative literature review

The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with the fall of the elderly in the home environment, through an integrative review, performed in the LILACS, MEDLINE and BDENF databases, from 2007 to 2017. Among the factors of risk for the fall of the elderly are: age, use of medicines, performing certain daily activities of life, among the most noteworthy: when getting out of bed, climbing stairs, taking a bath, the presence of non-slip mats with no bar in the bathroom, and difficult access to the light switch, which makes the fall easier for the elderly. Given the results of this research, there is a need for further research on this subject to expand the development of preventive actions and health promotion in the elderly.

A proposal of the Snoezelen approach in multisensory stimulation in the context of Gerontology – a reflective essay

Through the senses of the body the human being is constituted and establishes its relations with the world. The loss of sensory acuity that occurs with aging affects all individuals at different levels, causing disorders that compromise independence, autonomy, interpersonal relationships and the sense of identity. Occupational performance of the patient, perception and burden of the elderly caregiver in the dementia process

The objective is to characterize the sociodemographic profile of a demented elderly and their caregiver, to evaluate the occupational performance of the elderly under the perception of the respective caregiver, and the burden level of this caregiver. As a method, a descriptive, qualitative and quantitative research was performed. For data collection, a questionnaire for sociodemographic characterization and the instruments Occupational patient performance questionnaire and Zarit overload scale were used. The general prevalence of informal female caregivers (88.2%) with severe overload (52.9%) was found, due to the care provided to the elderly in dementia, especially regarding instrumental activities of daily living. , as 88.2% of these live with family caregivers. The results obtained corroborate the need for health care and intervention strategies with the informal caregiver of patients in dementia, aiming at minimizing the burden, improving the quality of life and preventing more aggravating aspects of the disease in this elderly. and subsequently to their caregiver. Methods of evaluation of double sensory impairment in the elderly. An integrative review

Objective: To review the evaluation methods used to identify dual sensory impairment in the elderly. Method: Search for articles on dual sensory impairment in the elderly in the PubMed, Scopus and BVS databases. Results: Seventeen studies were selected, of which 08 used subjective methods, 05 objective methods and 03 both methods. Conclusion: There was no standardization in the way to evaluate this population among the studies that addressed the double sensorial deficiency in the elderly.

Planificación urbana y accesibilidad para personas mayores en la ciudad de Ituiutaba, MG - algunas reflexiones interdisciplinarias

Urban planning establishes the spatial conditions in which individual-space relations develop. This study addresses issues related to the accessibility of three social spaces for the elderly in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais State, Brazil: “Mário Natal Guimarães Square”, “José João Dib Avenue” walking trail and “Ituiutaba Clube” Recreational and Sports Society. The interdisciplinary reflections developed here demonstrate that the structural conditions for accessibility and use of the elderly present deficiencies as foreseen by NBR 9050, not offering adequate conditions for walking, impairing the spatial and social relations of the elderly. There was a need for supervision, readjustment and structural maintenance.

Food Insecurity in families where the elderly is the main provider

The present study addresses the issue of food security in families maintained economically by elderly users of the Bolsa Familia Program, and was conducted at the Bolsa Familia Program Unit, Jardim Ingá, in the city of Luziânia, state of Goiás, Brazil. It is a descriptive, qualitative study. Twenty-five individuals aged over 60 years participated in the research. The prevalence of food security was identified in 8% of households; 24% with mild insecurity; 40% with moderate insecurity; and finally 28% with severe food insecurity. The observed food insecurity highlights the continuing need for studies to monitor the food and nutritional status of Brazilian families, especially that of their elderly.

Older senior: a review of literature

The objective is to review the scientific articles published in the last five years on long-lived elderly (≥ 80 years) and to identify the profile of these publications. An review of literature was carried out, using the Virtual Health Library. The search results in the selection of 36 national and international articles. It was observed that most of the studies were of a cross-sectional type, in countries of Europe and a greater participation of the elderly women. Cancer and heart disease were the topics most covered.

The functional capacity in the older elderly person: an integrative review

This article aims to analyze both the scientific production that deals with the maintenance of functional capacity in the elderly, as well as the one that deals with the possible health problems of this age group. To this end, an integrative review was performed; However, it was very difficult to find scientific literature for this age group. It can be observed that, in addition to the diseases that affect these elderly, psychosocial factors such as depression and isolation are responsible for the loss of autonomy and independence of this group.
