Influence of plantar cutaneous stimuli on sensitivity and postural control in the elderly
Decreased plantar skin sensitivity may result in reduced postural control in the elderly, making them more susceptible to falls. The objective of this study was to verify the influence of a plantar cutaneous stimulation program on the sensitivity threshold and postural control in elderly individuals. This was a prospective, randomized, single-blind clinical study involving 36 elderly individuals older than 60 years of age of both sexes, submitted to the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test to measure functional mobility, unipedal stance test to evaluate static balance, and evaluation of plantar sensitivity by sensation threshold test with nylon monofilaments. Elderly were divided into two groups. The control group did not undergo any intervention and was instructed not to change their lifestyle. The experimental group was oriented to perform home interventions for 3 weeks. After this period, all participants were reassessed. Results revealed that both groups showed higher plantar skin sensibility after 3 weeks, but no changes were observed in postural control. Both groups showed improvement in plantar cutaneous sensitivity, and there was no difference between them.

However, stigma is still perceived in the elderly, promoting a distorted and prejudiced view of Old Age.Keywords: Old Age; Labor market; Affective maps.

Black population racism and aging
The obstacles posed by racism cross the black population negatively in different spheres and senses. They are legacies of history that present themselves clearly or cover up to the present day, and when related to old age, the topics that make up racism are amplified and take on new facets. Psychosocial concepts are directly influenced by the perpetuation of the hierarchical model of races, directly influencing socioeconomic elements, health inequalities, family demands, violence, among other unfavorable experiences of the black population from birth to old age. In this way, the psychological practice based on an ethical and political action becomes necessary as opposed to such racist practices still contemporary – marking itself as the purpose of this study to ratify this recommendation; Thus, this psychological practice shows its relevance as a scientific and methodological praxis in the rupture with a past that is still present.

Facing Longevity, new studies

Perception of quality of life and psychomotricity of institutionalized elderly in different contexts
This study objective us to identify quality of life (QoL) and performance in tasks that require psychomotor skills and to verify possible associations between the various dimensions of QoL and psychomotricity. The sample consisted of 30 institutionalized elderly individuals, including 15 Brazilians and 15 Portuguese, of both genders, aged over 65 years. Whoqol-bref was applied to evaluate QoL. The evaluation of psychomotor functions was through the Questionnaire on Psychomotor Tasks in the Elderly. The results related to the evaluation of QoL and psychomotor functions were not observed significant differences between the ILPIs. After evaluation of Whoqol-Bref, in general, QoL is interpreted by the elderly as good, with a higher score in the domain 'Social Relations' that includes the 'social support', reflecting the good service in the evaluated ICIs. However, the worst score was for the 'Psychological' domain that addresses issues related to body image, positive and negative feelings, and may be associated with the restricted practice of physical and cognitive activities in institutions; also justified by the results of the evaluation of psychomotor functions with the lowest scores in the 'memory' and 'balance' aspects.

Cognitive decline, depression and frailty in the elderly: incidence and relations
The objective of the research was to verify the incidence of cognitive decline, depression and frailty in a sample composed of institutionalized elderly people and elderly residents in the community and, from this, to identify correlations between these variables. The study subjects were 33 elderly people living in two Long-term Institutions for Elderly People (LIEP) and the elderly of the community that were attended at the Center for Education and Health Studies, city of Marília, SP. In order to collect data on cognitive decline, the Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSE) and CDR were used; GDS-30 to identify incidence of depression and EFS for frailty. For the correlation analysis between the variables, the Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearmann correlation coefficient were used due to theoretical restriction. Institutionalized elderly individuals were more vulnerable in relation to all analyzed variables. Depression is positively correlated to frailty and cognitive ability. Fragility positively influences cognitive ability. The results of the analysis indicated a negative regular correlation between MMSE and CDR. The identification of risk factors related to cognitive decline and dementias; to depression and frailty, as well as the relations between these factors are fundamental for the establishment of preventive and therapeutic strategies. Keywords: Elderly; Cognitive disorders; Depression; Frailty; Prevalence.
