Chemical composition and fatty acid profile in organic milk from dairy cows fed with microalgae (Schizochytrium limacinum)

Our aim was to determine whether microalgae (Schizochytrium limacinum) supplementation affects daily production, composition and fatty acid profile of organic milk. Eight lactating cows were kept in pasture and divided in two groups: those fed corn cob as a supplement twice a day during milking (CTL) and those fed corn cob mixed with 100 g of microalgae (ALG) per cow daily. Microalgae did not affected daily milk production and composition, but a tendency of milk fat reduction was observed. The level of stearic acid in the milk of cows fed ALG was significantly lowered 2.46-fold, whereas levels of elaidic acid and conjugated linoleic acid were significantly elevated by 3.3-fold and 1.8-fold, respectively. A significantly greater PUFA:MUFA ratio was observed in ALG treatment, while the MUFA:saturated fatty acid ratio showed a tendency to increase (P=0.073). Microalgae rich in omega-3 fatty acids successfully enrich organic milk without negatively affecting productivity or composition. Consumers could be attract to increase the intake of omega 3 polynsaturated fat from organic milk. These results could support nutritionist and farmers decision to feed microalgae to dairy cattle since it is economically viable.

Side effects related to thermogenic supplements containing synphine

Food Supplements (SA) are widely used by athletes and practitioners of physical activities, as a way to complement their diet, whether for gain, weight loss or other specific goals. Thermogenics, in this case, are composed of substances that have the ability to speed up metabolism, offering greater calorie burning and reducing appetite. On the other hand, they may contain substances, such as Synephrine, which can harm health. Thus, this research aims to investigate the chemical composition of thermogenic supplements containing synephrine. The research was divided into two stages. Firstly, the label of these supplements was analyzed, collected on the internet site, and later, a systematic literature review was carried out, in which scientific articles were selected, from 2010 to 2019, within the database from SciELO, PubMed, Bireme, Google Scholar, and LILACS, using the descriptors: Food supplements/ food supplements; Synephrine/synephrine; Slimming/slimming; Thermogenic/ thermogenic. For meeting the inclusion criteria, scientific articles and dissertations were chosen, presenting themselves in full, that is, full text, being made available in Portuguese and English, which were in accordance with the proposed theme. The study was based on approaches to the influence of supplements on quality of life, thermogenic synephrine-based and the side effects of such products. As a result, the research concluded that synephrine, being similar to ephedrine, develops effects on the cardiovascular system, which can generate cases of increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, arrhythmias and stroke, especially when associated with caffeine. Some studies have also reported that synephrine can cause liver and kidney problems. Therefore, it is concluded that such compounds when not used correctly and without proper guidance, can cause serious damage to health.

The dissemination of scientific knowledge and the new qualis periodicals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES)

The means of dissemination of scientific production in Brazil, better known as scientific journals, have the qualis journal system, of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), as one of their main classification systems, and as a result of the dynamics of the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, currently, there is no system that does not require periodic adjustments. Thus, this qualitative research, through a literature review, aims to discuss some aspects of the process of dissemination of scientific knowledge and, mainly, the new Capes methodology proposal for journal classification that will be in force from this year, 2021, when it is publication of the final version of the new Qualis Periodicals, also called Qualis Capes or Qualis Periodicals Reference. For a better visualization of the comparison between the old and the new format, a table with the number of journals in both, in each stratification category, and a graph representing this quantitative difference by stratification were created. In this way, it was noticed that, despite the initial discomfort from any proposal or change process, it is necessary and the creation of a single large area, in the context in question, it will facilitate the assessment made by Capes.

Value aggregation of pine (Araucaria angustifolia) nuts agro-industrial waste by cellulose extraction

Araucaria (Araucaria angustifolia) is a tree species found in the Southeast and South of Brazil. It is also known as Brazilian pine, presenting fruits of high acceptance. However, its processing generates by-products that are little used. Thus, this work aimed to extract and characterize the cellulose obtained from the pinion husk, as well as to evaluate the contents of ash, lignin, cellulose and α-cellulose in its composition. The raw material and the extracted cellulose were characterized by X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). As for the contents of chemical composition detected, the husks showed 1.6% ash, 7% extractives, 34% lignin and 55% cellulose, being 46% α-cellulose and 9% hemicellulose. It was observed by XRD that the removal of amorphous materials resulted in a gain of crystallinity (from 19 to 33%). Proving the efficiency of the extraction, the characterization of the cellulose obtained was shown to be of high purity, since the main band of the lignin (FTIR) and the amorphous materials of the cellulosic sample (TGA) disappeared. Finally, this work shows that the pinion bark is a rich source of cellulose, making it possible to obtain nanocrystals.

Artificial Intelligence implemented to recognize patterns of sustainable areas by evaluating the database of socioenvironmental safety restrictions

The several papers recently published, applied to sustainable development, has been considering new methodologies and techniques in identifying the main criteria, in numeric format, that are useful in formulating possible solutions to the solid waste problem. This paper presents the Mathematical and Computational Modeling Process (PM2C), applied in the determination of control variables related to selection of areas destined to the construction of landfills, in order to benefit from new analyzes and values obtained by methods such as AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems). The main objective of this paper is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), through a Decision Tree strategy, as a selective method and optimal solutions in choosing the best area dedicated to the construction of landfills, with the creation and analysis of new values applied to scenarios defined in the paper of Andrade e Barbosa (2015). The results, expressed in analytical and graphical forms, show the individual values for each criterion and new scenarios involved in the phenomena. This paper highlights the importance of incorporating new conditions and criteria to propose a new decision-making rule, simultaneously, associating qualitative and quantitative characteristics, related to social and economic effects, applied to the environment management system. Based on these principles, it was possible to simulate new scenarios that demonstrate, with very high precision, the best values of useful criteria for decision-making in the selection of the optimal area for implementation of a landfill.

The new regulatory framework for basic sanitation and the right to access to water

This article makes a brief study of the importance of the universality of policies for the implementation of access to water and basic sanitation in Brazil by analyzing Law nº 14.026/2020 of the New regulatory Framework for Basic Sanitation, which has as its main focus to promote access until 2033 through water and sanitation policy services that are provided by the public administration and private companies. Therefore, this research seeks to identify the main innovations and contradictions promoted by this law, which defends privatization by groups linked to state and municipal interests in order to avoid political and economic costs. Thus, a literature review was carried out through the methods of deductive procedure, through exploratory research using bibliographic, qualitative and documentary data. From the results obtained, it was noticed that the law has as a priority the access to universalization of drinking water and basic sanitation services, however, this law intends to destabilize the state, starting to privatize the services so that the goals are achieved and in Contrary to this, many people are unable to afford the high fees charged for services offered by private companies, as this attempt to promote water universalization must be redirected so that everyone has access to water and sanitation services regardless of income or social condition, since the use of water is consolidated as a fundamental human right, this public will have to be attended to, regardless of whether the supply service is public or private.

Association between bruxism and screen time in adolescents: exploratory study

Adolescents make constant use of technologies, which can lead to overuse of the screen. These in turn generate mental consequences, such as stress and anxiety, which are triggering factors of bruxism. Considering this, this cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the association between bruxism and screen time in 236 adolescents, aged between 14 and 19 years of both sexes, high school students from public schools. Data were collected through questions contained in the National School Health Survey (PeNSE), Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and Diagnostic Criteria for Research in Temporomandibular Dysfunction (RDC/TMD). The Chi-Square test was used, and the Prevalence Ratio (PR) was calculated. Among the surveyed, 30.9% were bruxists and 62.3% used screens excessively. As for bruxism, there was no association with the independent variables studied. In relation to screen time, "Monthly family income" showed an association (p-value of 0.008), in which 76.1% of the surveyed who used screens for more than two hours a day had a monthly income between one and two minimum wages. Thus, there was no association between bruxism and screen time in adolescents. Bruxism and screen time were also not associated with the variables gender and age, however, there was an association between screen time and family income.

Aspects of territorialization of care in a CAPSij: sectional study

This study aims to integrate geographic, social and health analyses considering the variables race/color, for understanding the complexity of territorialization of mental health care. For this, it proposes to answer the following question: what are the sociodemographic characteristics of the territory occupied by children, women and adolescents in the area covered by CAPSij Brasilândia? Methodology: Sectional study that allows analysis and evaluation of collective health risks to which a population is exposed, particularly socioeconomic and environmental risks. The georeferencing describes and allows the visualization of spatial distribution, marking social determinants and etiological factors that can formulate hypotheses and point out associations between the phenomena. With the GIS technology we sought to delimit the area of coverage of the service, as well as, to classify what we call by complexities for territorialization of mental health care. Results: The spatial distribution of families (black women, children and adolescents), accompanied by CAPSij shows the territorial segregation experienced by the poor and black population. The territories occupied by the majority of the black population are portraits of the racism that structures the Brazilian social fabric. Conclusion: territories are products of social relations, and can confer advantages and disadvantages related to location, infrastructure, mobility, education, work, health, culture, etc. This reality shapes the mental health processes of the black population. This study on the spatial variation in the race/color clipping in public health services allows us to see how racial inequalities impact access to the right to health, and to point out interventions from the perspective of human rights.

Sensory quality and physicochemical properties of cassava roots as a function of technological management levels and harvest times

The management practices used by farmers in cassava crops and the relationship with the sensory quality and physicochemical characteristics of cassava roots are still incipient. The objective of this work was to evaluate the productivity, sensory quality and physicochemical properties of cassava roots at harvest times and technological management levels. The study was conducted in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the management practices employed in the field experiment corresponded to low, medium and high technological levels used by farmers in southern Brazil. The cultivar “Vassourinha” was used and the roots were harvested in the sixth, the seventh, and the eighth month after planting. The productivity, the physicochemical composition of the roots (dry matter, protein, lipid, ash, total fiber, resistant starch, and total starch) were determined, and the sensory analysis of the roots was performed. Technological levels did not influence the root productivity and it increased with the delay in the harvest season. There was an increase in protein at the high technological level and the highest content of starch was found in the roots harvested in the seventh month. Sensory acceptance of the roots showed greater acceptability in the sixth and seventh months after planting, with roots of a high technological level being preferred. Based on the results, the influence of management practices in the nutritional composition of the roots represents an important aspect for assessing the potential of the roots to be consumed or used in industrial processes.

Organophosphorus and organochlorines: medical toxicology and environmental reflexes

Pesticides or agrochemicals are chemical substances used in agriculture, because they have activity on countless living organisms that are harmful to crops. In this context, the organophosphorus and organochlorine compounds are of great relevance, due to the human intoxication of medical importance and environmental contamination. The objective of this work is to systematize information, contextualizing the problem in a critical way with emphasis on ecotoxicology and it’s medical consequences, associated with the use of organophosphorus and organochlorine compounds. To this end, a narrative literature review was conducted, outlined by searching for scientific articles and bibliographies about such compounds in the main international electronic repositories. The descriptors used for the search were: pesticides, agrochemicals, organochlorines, organophosphorus, toxicity, diagnosis, treatment, and environmental impact. Diagnosis is mostly clinical, but laboratory tests for evaluation/diagnosis can be performed, such as determination of erythrocyte cholinesterase (AChE) activity and plasma cholinesterase (BChE), for prognostic/monitoring purposes in chronic cases. Other tests may also be requested for analysis and investigation. The therapeutic protocol in cases of organophosphate intoxication consists of the administration of drugs with antagonistic activity to the substances, such as atropine and oximes, activated charcoal, anticonvulsant/neuroprotective drugs, and intensive care when necessary. However, there is no definitive treatment for organochlorine toxicity. Despite their high toxicity to the environment and to life forms, organophosphate compounds continue to be used for agricultural pest control, while organochlorines are used for vector control/disease dissemination. Moreover, such compounds are associated with occupational accidents and suicide.

Literature review on bizarre parosteal osteochomatous proliferation or Nora’s Lesion: A clinical case study

Bizarre parostal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP) or also called Nora's disease, is a rare, benign lesion whose radiographic and histological characteristics can lead to a wrong diagnosis. Most of the cases reported in the literature correspond to the small tubular bones of the hands and feet, being the involvement of the skull and jaws extremely rare. Treatment is surgical and includes surgical excision, simple resection and resection with wide margins; the lesion presents high recurrence (50%) for this reason, when it occurs in small bones such as metacarpals, total amputation of the bone is chosen. Here we present a case of BPOP involving the alveolar ridge of the mandible of a 72-year-old woman. This would be the ninth published case of bizarre parostal osteochondromatous proliferation corresponding to the maxillofacial region and the fourth case located in the mandible.
