Atualmente, a posição competitiva de uma organização no mercado mostra-se, cada vez mais, dependente do seu envolvimento e empenho na implementação de medidas de caráter voluntário orientadas para o bem-estar do seu público, quer externo, quer interno, conceito denominado de responsabilidade social. No seio da própria organização, a preocupação com a satisfação dos colaboradores é hoje encarada como determinante na sua produtividade. Conscientes desta influência, as organizações têm procurado investir na implementação de medidas de responsabilidade social, desta feita, exclusivamente dirigidas aos seus colaboradores, num conceito apelidado de Responsabilidade Social Corporativa Interna (RSCI). O objetivo do presente trabalho consiste na análise da aplicação do conceito de RSCI numa conhecida empresa seguradora portuguesa recentemente reconhecida como “Organização Saudável” pela Bureau Veritas, constituindo a primeira empresa portuguesa a obter tal certificação. Assim, por meio de um estudo de caso e a realização de um questionário aos colaboradores da empresa, pretende-se avaliar a perceção que os mesmos têm das práticas de RSCI aplicadas pela empresa, assim como a importância que os trabalhadores dão a essas práticas. Os resultados obtidos mostram que, de uma forma geral, os colaboradores percecionam positivamente todas as dimensões de RSCI implementadas pela empresa. Apesar destes resultados positivos, observa-se que existe ainda uma ligeira diferença entre a perceção dos colaboradores e a importância que os mesmos atribuem às diferentes dimensões de RSCI nas variáveis job analysis, egalitarian activities, collaborative process, development process, work-family balance e occupational health. A única variável onde se identificou uma semelhança entre a perceção e a importância atribuída foi em engagement activities.

This paper provides empirical evidence of the determinants of intra-industry trade (IIT), horizontal IIT and vertical IIT between Portugal and six European trading partners, using a dynamic panel data analysis. The paper introduces the distinction between the short-run and the long-run effects of the industry characteristics on IIT. The relationship between IIT and comparative advantages is also tested. The estimation results suggest that Portugal has comparative advantages in low-quality varieties and support Davis' (1995) hypothesis that decreasing costs are not necessary for IIT. The findings of the paper also provide an answer to Torstenson's (1996) question, namely that it is primarily human capital, rather than physical capital, that determines the quality of differentiated products.

In a society increasingly with more everyday stress and mental illnesses, the study of well-being becomes also increasingly relevant, and after Covid19 pandemic, in which people stayed for long periods indoors, also stimulate these studies in association with the real estate market. This work aims to study real estate agents and whether two entrepreneurs traits, such as Locus of Control and Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation are predictors and somehow are related to well-being. A quantitative methodology was adopted, with 213 answered surveys, of which 118 were Portuguese and 95 Brazilians. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 27 for Windows and Andrew F. Hayes' Macro for Windows called PROCESS, v 4.0. The study revealed that among the real estate agents, those who became part of the market by force of opportunity possess more internal Locus of Control in comparison to those who entered the market by force of necessity. Still on the first-mentioned, the study verified that they had higher levels of well-being, opportunity recognition and individual entrepreneurial orientation. It was also observed that Internal Locus of Control is a predictor to the other constructs, individual entrepreneurial orientation, capability to recognize opportunities and wellbeing, and Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation is also a predictor to Opportunity Recognition, but does not affect well-being and does not demonstrate any influence through moderation in the relation between Locus of Control and Well-Being or Locus of Control with Opportunity Recognition.

Performing a panel data analysis for OECD countries, during the period between 1990 and 2019, this dissertation investigates the relationship between economic growth and income inequalities. The main objective is to understand how the GDP and GNI per capita affect income inequality and how they differ. The results suggest a Ushaped relationship of both measures of economic growth with the market and disposable Gini indexes, the Palma and S80S20 ratios, and the income of the wealthier 10% of population, which contradicts the Kuznets hypothesis. Regarding the thresholds’ analysis, there is evidence that when GDP per capita is used, inequality is higher, leading to the conclusion that countries with policies that inflate GDP rather than GNI are the main contributors to the rise in inequalities in the last years. Furthermore, the results also show a behavioral similarity between the income of the richest 10% of population and income inequality. Lastly, there is also a possibility to promote GNI per capita increasing policies, which could lead to higher economic growth while minimizing income inequalities.

The economic crisis triggered by the COVID–19 pandemic once again raises doubts about the eurozone’s ability to deal with joint economic problems given its dissimilar dynamics and asymmetries. This chapter contributes to a paradigm shift in the governance of the euro area towards a more comprehensive and integrated approach. Two dimensions of this paradigm are considered. First, the need for a change in the economic policy concerning the recovery, from a supply-push to a demand-pull orientation, supported on a fiscal and monetary policy mix, integrated within a comprehensive macroeconomic approach. Second, we examine the need for a shift in external relations towards a more global integration-oriented policy, with the euro area positioning itself as an alternative to the current polarization between the United States and China. Our conclusions point to: (i) giving priority to growth and employment; (ii) promoting long-term economic sustainability based on integrated macroeconomic policies, the reduction of income concentration, and the reconstitution of strong middle classes; (iii) reorientating international relations into a perspective of cooperation; (iv) reinforcing regulation and global governance; and (v) eliminating exceptional situations and ways to evade economic controls.

The Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) was completed at the end of 2020 and governs the relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom, as a third country. The most controversial issue during the negotiations of the TCA was the so-called level playing field, by which the EU wanted the UK to follow its rules and standards on labor and social areas, on environmental policy and on State aid. The European Union claims to be a global regulatory power, being able to extend its normative weight in the framework of trade agreements with other nations. When compared to recent preferential trade agreements, the TCA allows the EU to extend its own rules and standards in the areas covered by the level playing field, even if it was the trade-off for UK goods to benefit from a greater degree of access to the single market. In any case, the TCA can be seen as a step forward in the EU ability to spread its regulatory influence.

O artigo analisa a evolução da política de concorrência em Portugal, enquadrando-a no contexto das transformações políticas que marcaram as últimas décadas, nomeadamente, a consolidação da democracia e a integração na União Europeia. Após breve resenha do enquadramento legal da política de concorrência, a segunda parte é consagrada à actividade da Autoridade da Concorrência, em particular, no combate aos cartéis e no controlo das concentraçôes de empresas, assim como nos remédios que as empresas negoceiam com a Autoridade no sentido de obter a autorização de uma operação de concentração.

A construção europeia é um acontecimento maior no relacionamento entre os diferentes países envolvidos no projeto de integração à escala continental. As primeiras décadas do processo de integração foram consagradas às políticas internas da União Europeia. Assim, o mercado interno, a política agrícola comum, a política de concorrência, a coesão econômica e social, a união econômica e monetária, a política de ambiente e demais políticas setoriais abrangidas pela União Europeia. Este artigo aborda as alterações que o Tratado de Lisboa introduziu no âmbito da política externa e de defesa, tendo em conta a gradual alteração do conceito estratégico da União Europeia. Começa por enquadrar a intervenção da União na política internacional, com a adoção de uma política externa e de segurança comum pelo Tratado de Maastricht, assim como a evolução posterior. Em seguida, refere as inovações do Tratado de Lisboa na política externa e de defesa, analisando os novos cargos, estruturas e institutos relevantes no quadro dessa política.

This study, based on data about internet available functionalities of Portuguese municipalities, determines, using computational facilities supported by a data base and a query language, and analyzes a large number of recommendations in order to provide a better service to user. It concludes that it's necessary to consider relationship management as a way to provide a better service and that many municipalities, eventually associated, need to accomplish a large revision of its site.

Começando pelas contas de fluxos, correntes e de acumulação, as contas de património completam a compilação de uma sequência de contas nacionais financeiras e não financeiras, nas suas várias formas. No âmbito do sistema central, ou base, da atual versão do sistema de contas nacionais, SNA - System of National Accounts (2008), são compilados os quadros (em forma de T), ou as contas económicas integradas, assim como possíveis representações matriciais. É adotado um elevado nível de agregação e são mostradas ou referidas outras possibilidades de desagregação. Por fim, para além do âmbito do sistema central, são também abordadas possíveis extensões. As observações finais, juntamente com alguns aspetos metodológicos, sublinham a importância da disponibilidade de dados de-quem-a-quem para completar as representações matriciais (especialmente, matrizes de contabilidade nacional/social) de reconhecido potencial para o estudo da distribuição de rendimentos e riqueza, entre de outros aspetos.

This article delivers a brief contribution to the debate about the Euro crisis. With that purpose it lists the objectives, interests and power relations underlined by the main political actors by the time of the introduction of monetary cooperation within the field of European construction. It begins with a reference to the first experiments of monetary cooperation between European countries—with the so-called European Snake, and later the European Monetary System— which were intended to protect the common market from the turmoil caused by the collapse of the international monetary system. It also addresses the adoption of the economic and monetary union by the Treaty of Maastricht, the creation of the single currency and the first attempt to control fiscal policy with the Stability and Growth Pact. Then it concentrates on the crisis affecting the Eurozone, initiated with the Greek sovereign debt crisis. It starts with a reference to core Euro countries early reaction to the crisis, to continue with the measures adopted to support the Euro system, before discussing what would be the much needed firewalls that could deter financial attacks. The final sections are de voted to the Fiscal Treaty, and to the impact of crisis management on the European Union balance of powers.

O storytelling tem-se tornado parte integrante das estratégias de comunicação de muitos destinos turísticos, contribuindo para a sua promoção e diferenciação. A presente investigação tem como objetivo o estudo da influência das características do storytelling na imagem do destino turístico através do transporte do consumidor para o mundo imaginário da narrativa. O modelo proposto é testado em dois cenários diferentes consoante a perspetiva narrativa: no primeiro cenário, o narrador do vídeo promocional do destino turístico fala na primeira pessoa do singular; no segundo cenário, o narrador fala na terceira pessoa do singular. Usou-se uma abordagem quantitativa, por questionário online para testar o modelo teórico desenvolvido. Obtiveram-se 702 respostas válidas que foram analisadas usando estatísticas descritivas e multivariadas, com recurso ao software IBM SPSS Statistics 28. O estudo concluiu que em ambos os cenários o transporte narrativo é influenciado pela propensão à transportabilidade, fluência da compreensão da narrativa e pela estrutura da narrativa. Adicionalmente, demonstrou-se que o transporte narrativo influencia o enjoyment, a sensação de presença e a imagem do destino, no narrador na terceira pessoa; mas não a sensação de presença no narrador na primeira pessoa. São discutidas algumas possíveis razões para esta diferença. A nível académico, este estudo contribui para ampliar o conhecimento sobre o uso do storytelling e a sua influência na imagem do destino, através da teoria do transporte narrativo. A nível empresarial, pretende dar suporte aos profissionais de marketing turístico de como utilizar a técnica de storytelling e construir uma narrativa turística eficaz.

Physiological complexity is believed to reflect a system’s adaptability to environmental challenges. Torque complexity reflects the adaptability of motor control and has been proposed as an indirect indicator of the functional capacity of the neuromuscular system. While torque complexity has been shown to decrease with aging, disease and fatigue, its underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying torque complexity. Twenty-one healthy and young adults (age: 24.62 ± 3.51yrs; height: 1.77 ± 0.07m; weight: 74.57 ± 13.34kg; BMI: 23.68 ± 3.30kg/m2) took part in the present study and visited the laboratory on one occasion. Participants performed three extension and flexion Maximal Voluntary Isometric Contractions (MVIC) proceeded by two repetitions of a thirty-second long submaximal isometric contraction at 30% MVIC. Participants then performed the fatiguing protocol, which consisted of a series of concentric and eccentric knee extensions until exhaustion at 90º/s. Immediately after, participants performed the same tests as prior to the fatiguing protocol. Peak Torque (PT) and Rate of Torque Development (RTD) were determined from the MVIC trials. Torque signals were sampled continuously, and the metrics of variability and complexity were calculated based on submaximal contractions trials. The coefficient of variation (CV) was used to quantify torque variability, while torque complexity was determined through Sample Entropy (SampEn). Electromyographic (EMG) signals, specifically, motor unit-related parameters, EMG amplitude, EMG CV and EMG co-contraction index (CCi) were also extracted from the submaximal trials. Paired sampled t-tests or Wilcoxon Signed-rank tests were used to test the effect of fatigue in all the dependent variables. Additionally, a stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to examine the contribution of other parameters to explain changes in torque complexity. Torque SampEn and CV were not altered with fatigue. PT and RTD significantly decreased whereas EMG amplitude, CCi, motor unit action potential amplitude (MUAPa) and average firing rate (FRa) significantly increased with fatigue. The multiple linear regression analysis revealed that FR/MUAPslope, FR/MUAPintercept and torque’s CV significantly explained changes in torque complexity accounting for 80.5% of its variance. Interestingly, changes in torque complexity were mainly attributed to intramuscular coordination processes which should be taken into consideration when planning training process and competition cycles.

O presente relatório de estágio representa o meu percurso enquanto professor estagiário de educação física (EF). Relata as minhas vivências, aprendizagens e estratégias pedagógicas que me guiaram ao longo deste exigente, porém recompensador ano letivo. Através da minha integração na escola pública compreendi as reais funções e importância do trabalho de docente. Ser professor não se resume a lecionar aulas de uma determinada disciplina, vai muito além. Significa educar, estar presente, liderar pelo exemplo, compreender, incluir, ter espírito de iniciativa e tantos outros atributos. O espectro de ação de um docente expande-se muito para lá do processo de ensino-aprendizagem. É assim importante defender a escola pública e os valores que a mesma defende. As oportunidades para todos, o apoio socioeconómico para quem precisa e os valores que devem nortear a sociedade em geral e as novas gerações. Foi também possível percecionar a importância da disciplina de EF. Além do seu papel no desenvolvimento motor dos alunos, é incontestável o seu valor no desenvolvimento social, promoção de estilos de vida saudável e competências que os acompanharão ao longo da vida, ajudando assim na preparação de novas gerações conscientes e com valores de cidadania.
