Para Luiza Neto Jorge, esta casa precisa de abolir a sua imobilidade e a do mundo; o caminho é, pois, o da liberdade. Para Daniel Faria, a casa possibilita o caminho para o céu, o qual permitirá procurar o alto e ver o rosto de Deus

Não se pretende caracterizar literariamente o ano do nascimento de Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, que foi também o do seu amigo Jorge de Sena, personalidade ímpar e cimeira da cultura portuguesa. O objectivo é — além da obrigatória pintura académica de uma cor local que faça sentir o clima artístico da época, pleno de contradições e aporias — equacionar algumas ideias fundamentais que nascem nesse mesmo ano além-fronteiras com o pensamento crítico de T. S. Eliot e se aprofundam com a teoria poética de Roman Jakobson e dos formalistas russos, influenciados pela fenomenologia intencional de Edmund Husserl. Em particular, a despeito do fundo historicista reinante, a inaudita articulação entre a trans-historicidade do fenómeno literário e a sua especificidade intrínseca, que a geração dos Cadernos de Poesia — a que pertencerão estes dois vultos quando atingirem a idade adulta, durante a II Grande Guerra e no pós-guerra — irá integrar dialecticamente numa concepção ética de compromisso da palavra com a dignidade humana sem sacrifício da sua dignidade estética. Esta integração é a marca distintiva de um Terceiro Modernismo, ainda mal compreendido enquanto tal, cujo embrião doutrinário e teórico data de 1919 e que prossegue os caminhos abertos pelos modernistas de Orpheu, The Egoist e Presença.

O objetivo deste ensaio é o de enquadrar a análise do Moby Dick de Melville feita pela filósofa, ensaísta, poetisa e pensadora Dalila Pereira da Costa à luz da grelha conceptual desenvolvida pela Fenomenologia e Hermenêuticas da Religião. A evocação de categorias de análise como sagrado e mistério ou de conceitos como mito e símbolo, usados por autores como G. van der Leuuw, R. Otto, M. Eliade, P. Ricoeur, J. M. Velasco, ajudam a contextualizar e aclarar as linhas de interpretação desenvolvidas pela autora portuense

Para o jovem Unamuno, o socialismo e a metafísica panteísta foram desenhados, respectivamente, como as respostas à fome na esfera económica e à sede na esfera religiosa. Pensemos no aspecto prospectivo do conhecimento, ou seja, de como a metafísica olha para o futuro. Assim, em vez de previsão por cálculo que deduz das leis as suas consequências, como o fundo divino da realidade é vontade, amor, sentimento, e, por isso mesmo, não é representavel, à dedução científica devemos acrescentar a antecipação poética e, melhor ainda, a esperança amorosa, a vontade determinada que quer acompanhar a tradição eterna para prefigurar o seu significado a vir. E isto é, acima de tudo, fé viva, capaz de criar o que não vê. O grande poeta e pensador Miguel de Unamuno foi nos seus primeiros tempos um defensor e apreciador do sentimento eufórico (não do sentimento trágico) da vida. Este ensaio traça a essência desta posição e aponta a transformação subsequente e como, por outro lado, a poesia teria de se tornar o instrumento expressivo fundamental deste pensamento após a sua evolução.

A densidade filosófica da obra de Vergílio Ferreira estabelece-se nas fronteiras do jogo entre a finitude e o transcendente. De Aparição a Estrela Polar, passando por Em Nome da Terra ou Para Sempre, o drama da existência rompe com o sentido aparente da significação do sujeito, abrindo-o à deriva ontológica e ao resgate do tempo passado como condições para a compreensão existencial. No sofrimento daquele que rememora, vemos o remorso da incompletude, da frugalidade e da efemeridade, que conduzem o sujeito a uma paradoxal procura do divino [seja enquanto entidade metafísica ou enquanto potencialidade criativa de um ser confinado às limitações e potencialidades de um corpo]. Deus é, simultaneamente, a condição para a afirmação da liberdade criadora do sujeito e a constatação agónica do absurdo de existir. Deus assoma, então, na obra de Vergílio Ferreira, como pêndulo entre a vontade de afirmação e o absurdo das possibilidades. Da ambivalência do lugar de Deus, emerge o Homem como ser lançado na existência e absorto de culpa. O Homem como potencial de criação que é capaz da mais exacerbada capacidade de olhar o Tempo, de rememorar. O Homem que se vê como um ser em processo e, portanto, que sobrevive [ilusoriamente?] à catástrofe da transitoriedade. Vergílio impõe a reflexão sobre o que permanece do sujeito em processo de ser, um sujeito que efetivamente só se descobre na memória, interpretada como espaço de recriação e de significação. Mais do que indagar sobre as possibilidades do divino, a obra de Vergílio Ferreira pode ser interpretada como a procura de uma afirmação do eterno, como conjunto de instruções sobre como morrer, que permita ver a morte como síntese e harmonia de tudo o que se concebe no reino profícuo das possibilidades [Estrela Polar]. No fundo, a fim de realçar o legado do ser, mostra-se o Homem na diáspora por Deus, o que o expõe na sua ambivalência como ser de fronteira: entre o eterno [da memória, da capacidade, do sonho] e o futuro [que esconde sempre a morte, o vazio e a solidão]

A presente comunicação evoca a figura do poeta franciscano Frei Agostinho da Cruz (1540 – 1619), no momento em que se comemoram os 400 anos da sua morte e os 480 do seu nascimento. Agostinho é apresentado como poeta actual cuja leitura é importante num momento civilizacional em que uma crise poliédrica precisa de directores que indiquem os melhores caminhos para alcançarmos a liberdade interior. Transcendendo os lugares comuns da poesia ao divino do seu tempo e mesmo uma linguagem quinhentista, o frade arrábido apresenta uma obra sólida e teotópica que, expondo sem rebuço os conflitos interiores e as psicomaquias do sujeito poético, reflecte sobre a erosão da dignidade humana durante “crise do renascimento”, propondo linhas de fuga universais e sempre contemporâneas, baseadas na “saudade de Deus”.

O processo psicológico da identificação emocional com o herói é o paradigma dominante da civilização literária ocidental desde a sua descrição na Poética de Aristóteles como mecanismo básico da receção da obra por parte do leitor/espetador, e a sua adoção como vetor primário daquela edificação moral prezada na antiguidade clássica e na tradição cristã como função antropológica essencial da literatura.Gesto fundador da modernidade literária a partir, pelo menos, do fim do século XIX, numa inovação que seria teorizada sistematicamente na dramaturgia do estranhamento de Bertolt Brecht, a rutura com este paradigma implica uma mudança radical não apenas do discurso antropológico veiculado pela literatura e da interpretação do seu papel como agente moral, mas também do discurso teológico por ela implícita ou explicitamente desenvolvido.Com referência final à obra de duas escritoras símbolo desta evolução como Flannery O Connor e Clarice Lispector, focalizar-se-á o núcleo teológico da poética do estranhamento, de desativação da identificação empática com o protagonista: é através da intolerável, repugnante, deformidade (moral e estética) do ser humano que a redenção se manifesta como ocorrência, imprevisível e humanamente impossível, da Graça, como abismo incompreensível em que a transcendência se abre caminho, derrubando todo o raciocínio, toda a expetativa, toda a lógica. Porque a redenção é Graça, não Lei

A mitologia clássica representou, e continua a representar, um elemento importante da história cultural da Europa. Em períodos diferentes e com funções diversas, os deuses reapareceram na literatura, na filosofia ou nas artes europeias, e contribuíram, assim, significativamente para a formação da moderna consciência europeia. A primeira parte deste artigo consiste numa observação breve de alguns dos momentos historicamente mais expressivos de revitalização mitológica. Na segunda parte do ensaio, pretende-se uma identificação de dois momentos de reaparecimento da mitologia clássica em Portugal, contextualizando particularmente “o regresso dos deuses” em Fernando Pessoa e em Sophia Mello Breyner Andresen. Na medida em que assumem uma função concreta num ambiente de desassossegos transcendentais e de inquietações socioculturais, os deuses não representam simplesmente alguns hóspedes fugazes dentro da poesia ou prosa de Pessoa e de Sophia Mello Breyner Andresen. Ou seja, pretende-se, concretamente, um entendimento da função dos deuses na obra dos dois.

O presente artigo pretende apresentar uma possibilidade de resgate semântico do topos como lugar de unidade entre a poética e a política, como propõe Giorgio Agamben. Tal unidade pode ser lida como desdobramento da relação entre poética e retórica desde Aristóteles, recuperando a ideia de poíesis da pólis, assim como tal relação é constituva de uma visão antitrágica da póetica cristã, como também sugere Agamben, e que pode ser idenfiticada no imaginário teológico narrativo do autor russo Vladimir Korolento.

Fundacional para a perceção e expressão do mistério, a linguagem poética é lugar de uma articulação paradoxal, nada acrescentando à representação descritiva do mundo. Encontrando-se o positivismo teológico em crise, paradigma que sempre cedeu demasiado à obsessão pela verdade, tem-se vindo a notar um crescente interesse pelo estudo teológico de produções literárias como lugares de redenção da linguagem referencial, própria do discurso tradicional da teologia. Na sua performatividade quase litúrgica, a linguagem poética aproxima o objeto do discurso teológico do seu eixo verdadeiramente referencial: a transluminosa treva do Silêncio (Pseudo-Dionísio).

The following text constitutes a brief report about the emergence, methodological and theoretical horizons, developed and ongoing research, human resources and intellectual work of the Religion and Culture Research Group of the University of the State of Pará, Brazil, which is in connection to the Postgraduate Program in Religion Studies. Since 2009, the year of its appearance, the RG seeks to aggregate collective and individual scientific interests of its members in favor of research advancement and in connection socialization of knowledge from the interconnections established between religion and literature.

The following text, as if it were a chronicle, enumerates the main activities of the group of LERTE, from PUC-SP in its work at the theological and literary interface. It gives preference in its study to the so-called anthropological method, based on the understanding of divine revelation taking place in human categories, and puts down well its roots in the proposal of a theological reflection which takes seriously the humanity affirmed in literature. From this comes the need for a serious and consistent literary analysis, allied to a hermeneutics that is also of quality and that makes possible the relationship between theology and literature. Hence the appeal to the thought of Paul Ricoeur, whose philosophy does not only affirm the necessity of understanding the text, but rather the possibility of understanding oneself in the world through the text. From a theological elaboration point of view, his reflection needs to be, equally, serious and consequent, and for this reason the references to the thoughts of Rahner, Gesché, to the spirit of Vatican Council II and to the Latin American theological tradition.

This article presents the Bible and Literature Studies Center (NEBIL, CNPq), as well as indicates its members, activities and bibliographic production. As the Nucleus' main production, the research project “Literary analysis of the canonical gospels: new approaches to biblical interpretation” has been developed. In this way, new elements will be added to the literary interpretation of a particular group of narratives present in the New Testament: the canonical gospels. The project is limited to the field of studies entitled “Bible as Literature”, which has been widely developed in Europe and the USA. In Brazil, such studies are still taking their first steps. For the development of the project, literary theories, reception theories and book and reading histories are used. It is part of the scope of the project to carry out events that bring together researchers and interested parties, as well as the publication of scientific articles and a collection book with works by researchers and guests.

This paper presents the “Litere – Literature, Literary Theory and Religion” research group in many aspects. Initially, the paper focus on the reserarch group description and its institutional bond and, thereafter, on the relationship with the Religious Studies in Brazil. Making a brief presentation of the group basics is made along with the general organization and the main activities descriptions, highlighting historical and revelant aspects. In a second moment, the epistemological frameworks and theoretical references which guide our work are presented. Finally, the paper will try to provide an overview of the number of researchers, events and publications

The article shows the trajectory of the GPPRA – Research Group on Protestantism, Art and Religion of the Graduate Department of Religious Studies of PUC Minas and its contribution to the dialogue between literature and theology in Brazil. The group was organized in 2018, and one of its axes of academic research is the dialogue between literature and both religious studies and theology. The article shows a differentiated aspect of its activities, viz., the “preferential option” (but absolutely not exclusive) for fantastic literature and fantasy literature as its focus of research. The article shows also the main theoretical references for literary hermeneutics and for the dialogue between literature and religious studies and theology that have been used in the research done by the group and for the analysis of the authors to whom the group gives special attention, viz, J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis.

The Research Group “Religion, Language and Culture” – listed in the CNPq Directory of Research Groups and certified by the PUC-Campinas – develops research in dialog with the range of themes of Teoliterária, that completes 10 years of existence. We investigate the relationships among religion, language, and culture, analyzing, on one side, the polyphony of religion and its illimited power of creation of meaning in dialogue and tension with the sacred, and, on the other side, seek to understand its forms of domestication and its submission to power projects. Our article is organized in three sections that are at the same time descriptive and analytic: (1) the presentation of RELINC to the Teoliterária community; (2) epistemological aspects of our research, highlighting the dialogue between religion and the arts (literature and film, in special) and religious mystic as social criticism; and (3) bibliometric data from RELINC, referring to the last four years period of CAPES evaluation.

When the Research Group "The Interfaces of Anthropology in Contemporary Theology" was created in 2007, it sought to establish a dialogue between anthropology and Christology. The entrance of researchers from other areas in the Group progressively led it to become interested in the place of poetry and narratives in the understanding of one of the constitutive dimensions of the human being: its corporeality. Initially this theme was approached from phenomenology, culminating in the I Interfaces Colloquium "Body-Incarnation" (2015). From there emerged the perspectives from which corporeality was approached by the Group: enigma, gift, and pathos. To approach them, it was seen the need for the resources of poetic reason. The Group privileged then a closer dialogue with poetic and narrative literature, which gave rise to the II Interfaces Colloquium: "Writings of believing in the body, in Portuguese language works" (2017), and with mystical writing, which gave rise to the III Interfaces Colloquium: "These bodies that inhabit me in the sacredness of existence" (2019). The text proposed here briefly resumes the path taken by the Group in these years, then presenting some theoretical elements that guide its understanding of the relationship between the poetics and the theology to think about corporeality.

This article aims to present a brief overview of the Apophatiké group: Interdisciplinary Studies in Mysticism. The group brings together researchers from various academic areas, especially Philosophy, Theology, Literature, Psychology and Sciences of Religion, from various institutions in Brazil, whose research is linked to the themes of Mysticism and Asceticism. Started in March 2010, it holds periodic meetings, during which the group members present their research internally and decide on the direction of the group’s activities. In addition to conducting study groups and academic events, the group aims to produce texts that represent the conclusions of its research. The main themes researched are Relations between Mystics and Literature in contemporaneity; the Neoplatonic Mystique (Plotinus, Proclus and Pseudo-Dionysius); Mystics of the First Fathers (Origen, Evagrius, Augustine), Mystics and Psychoanalysis (Freud, Fichte) Contemporary Mystics (Simone Weil, Christian de Chergé, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, etc).

The field of Theology and Literature is well established in the Brazilian context. The proposal of the research group teopatodiceia (theopathodicy) is to situate the dialogue of theology as a question for the meaning of God within human seeking of meaning; and to offer a critical rationality for a system of beliefs having literature as a privileged interlocutor, as well as other forms of narratives and artistic expressions of the human condition. Thus, the anthropological element aims, not only a dialogue with a literary anthropology, but, within the project of an archaeology of knowledge, it considers the productions of subjectivities implicated (pathos) in the different knowledges in dialogue and in the epistemological models that better favor the elaboration of a plural and counter hegemonical public theology to discern modes of becoming responsible for a public agenda based on an ethical sensibility (dike) common to contemporary dilemma.  Literature occupies a significant role as an heterology in the dialogue with theology. As an interdisciplinary approach, the archaeological project draws from the theoretical background of authors such as Antonio Manzatto, Paul Ricoeur, Michel Foucault, Michel de Certeau, and David Tracy. In a critique to theology’s self-referentiality the dialogical, interdisciplinary, and intercultural theological perspective of the group is grounded in the whole of human sciences.
