Collaborative Online Media: a new way of making TV

The paper discusses the role of independent media, which became apparent during the June 2013 protests in Brazil, by analyzing the format of collaborative, participatory, online and uncut journalism, shared via social networking on the Internet. We use examples of collective alternative media and point collective practices of media that acted in the protests of Rio de Janeiro until October of that year. We intend to discuss the emergence, origin, practice, and the key role that such collective media played in disclosing facts in real time, revealing a different reality form what was usually shown to the viewers.

The Oil Industry in Macaé: characteristics and socioeconomic impacts under the perspective of sustainable development

This study aims to analyze and discuss the main socioeconomic aspects of the evolutionary process of local development, after the arrival of the oil industry in Macaé. The methodology consisted of an exploratory and documentary research to base the study on the concepts of sustainability and local development. Results show the existing social externalities, the exploratory and centralized model of the undertaking, its impacts on local enterprises and society, and the absence of a better planning and management shared among the social, business and political actors involved. These findings are supported by experiences reported worldwide, and are associated with distributive environmental conflicts. Therefore, one can consider as indicative, the need for a more useful discussion about the spatial, cultural, political and social problems of the regions as a tool able to provide planned actions towards sustainability.

Environmental conservation and social conflict in the Amazon

This article summarizes results of research carried out with the traditional riverside communities in the municipality of Oriximiná, in the western section of the state of Pará. We aim to understand the relationship between traditional populations and environmental agencies in environmental conservation units located in non-specially protected areas protected in the Amazon. We develop research in quilombola communities that occupy forest areas on the Trombetas River, located in protected areas of the Federal Government (Trombetas River Biological Reserve and National Saracá-Taquera Forest) and lowland communities located on the river Nhamundá, which are not specially protected areas. The former endure constant conflicts with environmental agencies, while the latter has developed an important process of collective organization and cooperation with governmental agencies for joint inspection of its resource units. We discuss how the conceptualization of protection units can foster conflict and accentuate vulnerability to typical forms of social reproduction amongst traditional populations of the Brazilian Amazon.

A new proposal for Young and Adult Education in the state of Rio de Janeiro: the students' view

This work follows a study conducted in 2014 in a public school in the state of Rio de Janeiro. We aimed at identifying and discussing the meanings constructed by students about a proposal for a program called "Nova EJA", implemented by the education department. The Theory of Social Representations (TRS in Portuguese) was used as theoretical-methodological reference. We elected qualitative empirical research to analyze a sample of students. We start by making an historical review of  Young and Adult Education (EJA in Portuguese) in Brazil, as well as policies for this kind of education. Next, we describe the implementation context and some of the aspects of the proposal. Following, data were collected interviews and analyzed in light of the aforementioned theory. Thus, by identifying, among the social subjects, the presence or lack of meaning about the new policy, analysis of the results revealed that the educational subjects had not yet built a social representation of the "Nova EJA", as they did not express a common social thought about the proposal.

The (re)configuration language communication: An analysis of institutional fan pages on Facebook

The research aims to analyze the language used by communication professionals in the digital social network Facebook, with the hypothesis that the language of institutional communication is being reconfigured significantly by the digital social networks. For such, qualitative research have  done to identify concepts that are interwoven with the theme of the study and are the keys to their development, such as development of communication and language; internet and digital social networks, in addition to theoretical studies of arrays of language and thought, language functions; reconfiguration of language; among others. And also were made exploratory research by the scarcity of reflections on the theme and the delimitation of the sample being analyzed two fan pages of brands Guaraná Antarctica and Banco Itaú. Moreover, descriptive research have been done through systematic observation in the time interval determined for one month – December 2013, being analyzed the language used in these pages by the criteria of linguistic style, form, content and function of language, to the consequent consideration of the “objects” analyzed. Among the results of the work is presented as a particularity, in Facebook, the presence of verbal, visual, sonorous language and their hybridizations, and referential, conative and emotive functions of language, in a kind of unimídia that adds interactivity and hypertextuality.

Vocational Education in Brazil – Context and Reforms in the 1990s

This paper seeks to contextualize some landmarks of Vocational Education in Brazil in the 1990s, during the Reform of Vocational Education promoted by the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government. We focus the discussion on Decree 2208/97 which dissociated high school programs from vocational studies, resulting in the loss of equivalent programs inaugurated by the Capanema Reform in the 1940s. This decree restored the old structural duality by establishing different and nonequivalent paths at this level of education.

Analysis of the Influence of the Presence of Large Vehicles in Aerodynamic and Aeroelastic Behavior of Bridge Structure

Flexible bridge structures are frequently susceptible to wind induced vibrations, presenting the so called aeroelastic phenomena produced by the interaction between inertial, elastic and aerodynamic forces. The occurrence of this type of oscillations may cause structural damages and discomfort to users. Tradicionally, the study of the dynamics effects of wind in structures was made only through wind tunnel experiments. Nowadays, the analysis of numerical models by means of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is also used. This work presents the application of a computational tool in Fluid Dynamics, to evaluate, through a 2D numerical mode, the aerodynamic behavior of the Rio-Niterói Bridge when its non-aerodynamic profile is altered by the presence of large vehicles. Comparison between records of large oscillations events on this bridge suggest that the aerodynamic shape change caused by the presence of a line of large vehicles on the windward lane may contribute to increase bridge amplitudes of oscillations induced by vortex shedding.Firstly, the results for the structures at rest are presented. Considering the profiles of the bridge, of two shapes of vehicles and of the ensemble section of bridge and vehicle. Then, the results of the oscillating bridge, with or without vehicles are presented, in terms of the amplitude time histories for several wind velocities. The obtained results for the vehicles sections and for the bridge alone, both at rest or oscillating display, a good correlation with the corresponding experimental results. This allowed the evaluation of the aerodynamic behavior of the bridge with vehicles, ensuring that the altered profile contributes for the increase in vibrations amplitudes produced by vortex shedding.

Multicriteria Analysis for universalization of electricity services in isolated rural households in the region Norte Fluminense

Besides hydropower Brazil has considerable potential wind and solar that can contribute to the universalization of electricity services in remote communities. This is because the program “Luz para todos” has a high cost to the wild places and thus, the universal becomes uneconomical. In the present study, we used the AHP method classic and Borda for multicriteria problems with the objective of choosing the type of supply electricity to an isolated rural domicile with average consumption of 150kWh of electricity and located in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro. For this, we considered four alternatives based on quantitative and qualitative criteria and modeled in six different situations, which are corresponding to distances from houses to the mains conventional dealership. We performed the modeling of the problem with the AHP to select the best source of energy supply, then immediately applied the Borda method for ranking of alternative sources of energy supply, and finally, we propose a new methodology for integration of AHP method to the Borda. Thus, the application of the two methods separately and also the new proposal of integration of these showed similar results as the best alternative for the supply of electricity to the rural domicile isolated situations in the six proposals. Since the supply of conventional dealership was the best alternative for zero distance 500 meters (cases one and two) for both methods applied, but for other situations renewables become viable in relation to the grid the concessionaire. Worked so pointed that the greater the distance from houses to the grid, the greater the viability of renewable energy. Furthermore, the results show that renewables can contribute to meeting the demand for electricity in isolated communities and also point to the need to review the policies of universal electrical services in view of the potential wind and solar to be explored in Northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro and other parts of the country.
