Redescrição de Nomimoscolex admonticellia (Woodland), comb.n. (Cestoda: Proteocephalidea), parasito de Pinirampus pirinampu (Spix), um siluriforme de água doce

The Monticelliidae species, Nomimoscolex admonticellia (Woodland, 1934), comb.n., parasite of Pinirampus pirinampu (Spix, 1829) a freshwater siluriform fish, is redescribed. This species is the type of the genus Myzophorus Woodland, 1934. The authors discuss the validity of this genus and propose its suppression. Their species are transferred to Nomimoscolex (Zigobothriinae) whose diagnose is modified to include: N. admonticellia, comb.n., N. pirarara (Woodland, 1935), comb.n. and N. woodlandi (Rego, 1984), comb.n.

Lissopedia, gen.n. de Paratetrapediini para a região neotropical, com as descrições de três espécies novas (Hymenoptera, Apoidea, Anthophoridae)

Lissopedia, a new genus is proposed for Tetrapedia globulosa Friese, 1899, from Brazil and to include Tetrapedia flavopicta Cockerell, described from Yucatan, México. Three new species: Lissopedia ochronota from Albany, Jamaica, Lissopedia xanthina from Carmen (on the River Madre de Dios), Pando, Bolívia, and Lissopedia tristriata from Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil are described. The female of Lissopedia globulosa is described from Barreiras, Bahia, Brazil and thus a locality is given for this species. This genus seems to be confined to the Neotropical Region. Exomalopsini, Tapinotaspidini and Paratetrapediini are considered as tribes of Exomalopsinae.

Partição de recursos alimentares entre quatro espécies de morcegos frugívoros (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae)

This study was carried out in the region of Londrina, Paraná, Brazil in three different areas: a primary forest, a disturbed primary forest and an open area. Within 207 hours of capture, 990 individuals were collected, 939 of them being fruit-eating bats. Carollia perspicillata (Linnaeus, 1758), Sturnira lilium (Geoffroy, 1810), Platyrrhinus lineatus (Geoffroy, 1810) and Artibeus lituratus (Olfers, 1818) were the four most collected species in a total of 899 individuals. A. lituratus was found in greater number in all the areas, showing significant variation in relation to the size of the forests. The partition of food resources among the four most collected species was known through the analysis of their feces. The coexixtence of these species can be explained by their investing in different foods or their diverging time activity.

Nematóides do Brasil. Parte III: nematóides de répteis

A survey of nematode species parasizing Brazilian reptiles is presented, with data enough to provide their specific identification. The first section refers to the catalogation of the species, related to 127 superfamilies, 23 families, 55 genera and 121 species that are figured and included in measurement tables. The second section is concerned to the catalogue of host reptiles, with 16 families, and 90 species and their respective parasite nematodes. The identification of these helminths is achieved by means of keys to the superfamilies, families and genera. Specific determination is induced through the figures and tables as above mentioned.

Variação morfométrica e demográfica em Phaleria testacea Say (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) de duas praias do Rio de Janeiro

The species Phaleria testacea Say, 1824 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) varies a lot in size, and its populations along the coast of Brazil, where it lives buried in sandy beaches, have temporal and geographical variation in density. In order to find out which factors were contributing to these variations, we sampled populations from three different areas in Rio de Janeiro, during summer and winter. Simultaneously, we made an analysis of the different substracts where the individuals were found, including their total fresh weight. The results show a significant difference in size of individuals between and within populations, when summer and winter were compared. There is also a positive association between the population density of P. testacea and the amount of "garbage" found at the study areas.

Preliminary checklist of the herpetofauna of the upper Rio Urucu, Amazonas, Brazil

Thirty-three species of anuran amphibians and 22 species of reptiles were found in 9 days and nights of sampling in an unexplored region of Central Amazon. The community is characterized by typical lowland Amazonian species. The relatively short sampling time and high number of species caught indicates that this region probably has very high species richness.
