Between memories and stories: contributions of an extension project for the integral care of people with dementia syndromes and their families

This study aims to verify the contribution of an interdisciplinary extension project in the health care of the elderly with dementia syndromes and their families. This is a qualitative research through oral history. Participation in this project is considered by the interviewees as an important promoter of self-care and self-care, favoring the acceptance of the disease, overcoming difficulties and helping in the quality of life and increasing the knowledge of its participants.

Effects of cognitive interventions on cognition and social variables in older adults and the elderly: a systematic review

According to the literature, cognitive interventions improve cognitive functions and social interaction. It aims to identify the relationship between cognitive interventions and their benefits on cognition and on social variables of older adults and elderly people without dementia and without depression. It realized a systematic review study between November and December 2020, involving PubMed, Scielo, LILACS, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and ScienceDirect databases. A total of 487 studies were identified and, after selection, 13 were included. Seven studies identified improvements in social variables as a secondary outcome. There was a positive association between cognitive interventions and benefits for social variables, as well as benefits for the cognition of older adults and elderly people without dementia and without depression.

Home care provided to the elderly in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo

This article aims to analyze the home care provided to the elderly with chronic-degenerative disease (DCD) by Family Health Strategy (ESF) teams in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo. This is qualitative research, with data collected through focus groups with health professionals from two ESF teams and analyzed through content analysis. The data points to the need for integration of health care teams and strengthening of networking.

“Legal” Grandparenthood: interdisciplinary views on judicial custody

The objective of this paper was to offer an expanded and diversified look to the theme of the first author's thesis about the legal adoption of grandchildren by grandparents, based on the contributions offered by the examiners at the time of defense/viva. It presents a summary view of the thesis, plus a bibliographic review and methodological considerations regarding systemic theory. It concludes that grandparents who have legal custody of their grandchildren represent a restorative foundation of the thread that links these people as a family.Keywords: Grandparents; Judicial guard; Interdisciplinarity.

Consent Process in Diagnostic Procedures: Capacity, Understanding and Vulnerability

The purpose of this study was to compare the results of the Informed Consent Term (EHIC) with the use of High Digestive Endoscopy resources. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative and analytical study. A total of 139 individuals and 61 years of age who presented an EHIC to authorize the examination participated. The problem is that power differences between groups may be necessary to maintain the ability to make decisions.

Self perception of aging and its relationship to psychological gender profile

The self-perception of aging is a determining factor of the individual's state of health, as well as the self-concept constructed of his personality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychological profile of genders as potential to influence self-perception of aging. Cross-sectional and descriptive study using the QAPE Aging Self-Perception Questionnaire in 224 seniors from Brasilia, DF. It is concluded that perceptions of aging are built by cultural patterns.

Evidence of Validity of the Perceived Collective Quality of Life Scale, PCQLS, with Migrant Retirees in Região dos Lagos, RJ, Brazil

This study aimed to adapt and validate the Perceived Collective Quality of Life Scale, EQVCP, with 284 retirees, who migrated to the Lagos Region (RJ) in search of a better lifestyle. The EQVCP emerged 19 items distributed in two factors: Public Policies and Social Relations and Economic and Political Development. The results showed that personal safety was the most positive indicator, followed by the quality of environment; and corruption was the most negative indicator, followed by the political situation.Keywords: Collective Quality of Life; Retirement; Migration.

Correlation between Risk of Falls and Functional Capacity of Elderly in the Home Environment

 This study aimed to correlate the Basic and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living with the risk of falls for the elderly in the home environment. Epidemiological study with 155 elderly. Cognitive status, dependence and functional limitation were evaluated. There is a prevalence of elderly people up to 79 years (78.7%), female (65.8%), with moderate dependence (95.5%) and partial (93.5%). It was proven that the elderly are prone to the risk of falls, as they are functionally dependent for both basic and instrumental activities.

Dialogues with the Status of the Elderly and Paulo Freire: old age beyond the former, a possibility To Be More

The discussion turns to observations about digital technologies in the daily lives of the elderly population, a situation crossed by prejudices. Therefore, based on the Elderly Statute, which recommends actions that involve integration into modern life and, in a dialogue with Paulo Freire, old age is reflected from the unfinished human being, so people learn regardless of age. In this perspective, another way of aging is envisioned and, instead of abstraction, the Elderly Statute becomes an instrument of transformation.

Analysis of anthropometric measures with the quality of life of caregivers of the elderly: Quasi-Experimental Study

The objective was to relate anthropometric characteristics with the quality of life of caregivers of elderly people. As a method, a quasi-experimental study, with 31 caregivers of elderly people at the Health Care Center for the Elderly and their Caregivers at Federal Fluminense University, UFF/RJ. The variables collected were: waist circumference, body mass index calculation and the Short Form Health Survey 36 scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that, after the intervention, there was a reduction in waist circumference and an improvement in the functional capacity, vitality and mental health domains. In conclusion, the effectiveness of interventions was evidenced.

Association between quality of life and balance of elderly patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease

The aim of this study was to verify the association between postural balance and quality of life of patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. This is a cross-sectional study that evaluated elderly people with idiopathic Parkinson's disease through the Schwab & England, Hoenh & Yahr, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating, MiniBESTest and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39. Unlike other published papers that frequently use the BESTest, we use MiniBESTest that verified that elderly has balance compromised identified in the early stages of the disease, which directly influences the quality of life. Parkinson Disease; Postural Balance; Quality of Life

Wide Geriatric Assessment of elderly on hemodialysis: case report

The aim of the study was to assess the nutricional status and describe the results of the tools of the Wide Geriatric Assessment applied in an elderly on hemodialysis, by the nephrology unit of the Distrito Federal. Mild to moderate cognitive degeneration, malnutrition and risk of sarcopenia were found in the patient, enough for the establishment of therapeutic measures with the multiprofessional approach. Covid-19: Preventive measures in a Long Term Care Home for Older Adults in the city of São Paulo

After the finding of the Sars-Cov-2 virus and its high lethality, mainly in the older adults, the main of this study was to describe the specific actions to dam the transmission of this virus in a Long Term Care Home, through an action plan with changes in the flow of older adults, their family and collaborators. It was possible to conclude that all these measures could reduce and even dam the transmission of the virus among the older adults.

Models of attention and support directed to caregiver of elderly: na integrative review

The present study aims to indentify models of care and support direct to informal caregivers of the elderly and discuss the importance of these interventions in caregiver health. Was  verified that among the models of care and support applied to caregivers of the elderly, psychoeducational interventions were the pedominantones offering innumerable contributions as a better understanding about the aging process and the changes that accompany it, a better understanding about the disease that affects the elderly, acquisition of knowledge about care, increased use of strategies to cope with negative situation and stress redction among others. The nurse practitioner was the one who was in charge of this assistance in most of the studies, confirming his commitment to the elderly and his family.

Survey of femur fractures and death in the elderly from: A quantitative analysis in the Brazilian regions

This study aimed to quantify hospital morbidity and mortality due to femur fractures in the elderly from 2008 to 2018 in Brazil. Using secondary data from DATASUS (Department of Informatics of SUS). The results showed the evolution of the cases in the studied years, growing with increasing age, prevailing in females, white race, in winter and in the southeast region, increasing health expenses in the same proportion as their occurrence in Brazilian regions.Keywords: Elderly; Femur fracture; Death.

Mobility and accessibility of elderly people in urban social spaces: integrative literature review: Mobility and accessibility of elderly people in urban social spaces: integrative literature review

We sought to identify the scientific evidence on the mobility and accessibility of elderly people in urban social spaces. This is an Integrative Literature Review, with a search in the online Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System databases, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Bibliographic Index Español in Ciencias de la Salud. 379 articles were found, of which 13 were chosen for the sample, with 04 themes for discussion: mobility, accessibility, autonomy and independence. Studies have shown that the appropriation of elderly people to collective social environments improves their lifestyle and favors autonomy and independence.

Restrições ao lazer e seus impactos na saúde mental de idosos no isolamento social: : Apreensões a partir de um estudo psicossociológico brasileiro

No presente artigo buscamos avaliar quais os impactos das restrições ao lazer na saúde mental de idosos durante o isolamento social decorrente da pandemia de Covid-19. Para isso realizamos um levantamento nacional, em que contamos com uma amostra não probabilística por conveniência composta por 276 idosos brasileiros que responderam a um questionário online, e percebemos aumentos significativos em seus níveis de estresse, ansiedade e depressão durante o isolamento, do que inferimos uma relação direta e indireta às restriçõesao lazer.
