A função do desenho na metodologia projectual do designer tem merecido o interesse de vários autores. Nessas abordagens está presente a afirmação de que o desenho é essencial no processo de investigação do design para o registo de diversas variantes e de várias soluções ao longo da metodologia projectual (Cross, 2007). As profundas alterações da natureza do Design provocadas pelo contexto histórico actual (Norman, 2011), justificam a pertinência de uma reflexão alargada em torno do papel do desenho nos cursos de design, adaptado a esta nova realidade. Este é um desafio colocado hoje às instituições de ensino e seus intervenientes, na organização de estruturas curriculares e métodos pedagógicos. Conceitos como colaboração ou design multidisciplinar, entre outros, têm sido debatidos como estratégias para o ensino do design (Heller and Talarico, 2011, pp. 82-85). Neste contexto, e enquanto docentes nas áreas do Desenho e do Design, importa-nos abordar as seguintes questões:  de que forma é possível enquadrar métodos do desenho ao ensino do design actual?  de que forma poderá o Desenho ser pensado enquanto prática interdisciplinar?  que contributos podem essas práticas trazer para o processo de ensino/aprendizagem? Com base nestas preocupações, desenvolveu-se um projecto interdisciplinar entre as unidades curriculares de Desenho e de Estética e Teoria do Design no Curso de Design Gráfico, na Instituição onde leccionamos. Neste artigo apresentaremos os objectivos e o processo desenvolvido, assim como a análise e conclusões desta experiência pedagógica.

Body and brain undergo several changes with aging. One of these changes is the loss of neuroplasticity, which leads to the decrease of cognitive abilities. Hence the necessity of stopping or reversing these changes is of utmost importance to contemporary society. In the present work, electroencephalogram (EEG) markers of cognitive decline are sought whilst the subjects perform the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Considering the expected age-related cognitive deficits, WCST was applied to young and elder participants. The results suggest that coherence on theta and alpha EEG rhythms decrease with aging and increase with performance. Additionally, theta phase coherence seems more sensitive to performance, while alpha synchronization appears as a potential ageing marker.

The present article aims to analyze the Judgment no. º 63/2006 of the Constitutional Court, of January 24, 2006, verifying the characteristics of the case, under reference abstract and concrete, of the constitutional principle of the prohibition of retroactive tax. It also examines the core aspects of the temporal validity of the legal and tax rules, brevitatis causa of legal and fiscal standards. Thus, it scrutinizes the call application of tax rules (and / or tax) within the application in time, consisting brief notes on the legal tradition-Lusitanian, from the standpoint of doctrine, from 1976 to 1985 including, recalling the Thesis Salazar on non-retroactivity of tax law. § O presente artigo pretende analisar o Acórdão do Tribunal Constitucional n.º 63/2006, de 24 de Janeiro de 2006, verificando de forma sintética as características do caso concreto, sob referência abstracta e concreta, do princípio constitucional da proibição de imposto retroativos, analisando ainda os aspectos nucleares da eficácia temporal das normas jurídico-tributárias, brevitatis causa, das normas jurídico-fiscais. Para tanto, se averigua a chamada aplicação das normas fiscais (e/ou tributárias) no seio da aplicação no tempo, constando breves notas sobre a tradição jurídico-lusitana, do ponto de vista da doutrina, a partir de 1976, designadamente até 1985, recordando a Tese de Salzar sobre a não retroatividade da lei fiscal.

This paper proposes a wireless EEG acquisition platform based on Open Multimedia Architecture Platform (OMAP) embedded system. A high-impedance active dry electrode was tested for improving the scalp- electrode interface. It was used the sigma-delta ADS1298 analog-to-digital converter, and developed a “kernelspace” character driver to manage the communications between the converter unit and the OMAP’s ARM core. The acquired EEG signal data is processed by a “userspace” application, which accesses the driver’s memory, saves the data to a SD-card and transmits them through a wireless TCP/IP-socket to a PC. The electrodes were tested through the alpha wave replacement phenomenon. The experimental results presented the expected alpha rhythm (8-13 Hz) reactiveness to the eyes opening task. The driver spends about 725 μs to acquire and store the data samples. The application takes about 244 μs to get the data from the driver and 1.4 ms to save it in the SD-card. A WiFi throughput of 12.8Mbps was measured which results in a transmission time of 5 ms for 512 kb of data. The embedded system consumes about 200 mAh when wireless off and 400 mAh when it is on. The system exhibits a reliable performance to record EEG signals and transmit them wirelessly. Besides the microcontroller-based architectures, the proposed platform demonstrates that powerful ARM processors running embedded operating systems can be programmed with real-time constrains at the kernel level in order to control hardware, while maintaining their parallel processing abilities in high level software applications.

Over the last decade, software architecture emerged as a critical design step in Software Engineering. This encompassed a shift from traditional programming towards the deployment and assembly of independent components. The specification of the overall system structure, on the one hand, and of the interactions patterns between its components, on the other, became a major concern for the working developer. Although a number of formalisms to express behaviour and supply the indispensable calculational power to reason about designs, are available, the task of deriving architectural designs on top of popular component platforms has remained largely informal. This paper introduces a systematic approach to derive, from behavioural specifications written in Ccs, the corresponding architectural skeletons in the Microsoft .Net framework in the form of executable C] code. Such prototyping process is automated by means of a specific tool developed in Haskell

This paper analyzes the level of disclosure of Intangible Assets, Business Combinations and Goodwill in the consolidated financial statements and its explanatory factors. We have analyzed the annual reports of companies listed on Euronext Lisbon for the year 2010 and have created a Disclosure Index which allows to measure the level of disclosure for each company in this area, based on the existing accounting standards. In order to identify the association between the level of disclosure and its determinants, we have tested several hypotheses which explain the degree of disclosure. The results evidences, company’s size, industry, leverage and audit firms belonging to Big 4as explanatory factors. Only the size presentsa positive association with disclosure index, confirming the hypothesis which establishes that the level of disclosure about Intangible Assets, Business Combinations and Goodwill is greater in larger companies. The remaining explanatory variables presenta negative association with disclosure level.

Abstract: If we think there is a significant number of legal offshore in the globalized world, then there is not even a global consensus about what «corruption» is. The «illegal corruption» in a country may be legal in another. Moreover, the great global corruption is above the law or above democratic States. And not all democratic States are «Rule of Law». Therefore, the solution is global earlier in time and space law, democratic, free and true law. While the human being does not reach a consensus of what «corruption» really is, the discussion will not go further than a caricature. One of the other problems about «corruption» is that it is very difficult to establish the imputation of crimes, including «corruption» (v.g. Portugal) on some «companies», corporations. We have a juridical problem in the composition of the art. 11. of the Portuguese Penal Code.

O presente estudo tem como objecto central o livro ilustrado e tem como objectivo principal compreender as diferenças entre dois modelos: o livro impresso e o livro digital. Partindo de um objecto de estudo concreto, um livro tradicional em formato impresso desenvolvido na disciplina de Ilustração no contexto do Mestrado de Ilustração e Animação do Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, é nosso objectivo perceber as principais diferenças que ocorrem na transição para um suporte digital, especificamente num formato iPad, assim como enunciar algumas das metodologias possíveis para que esta transição seja eficaz. Num momento de transição como o que vivemos actualmente, em que o ilustrador tem cada vez mais necessidade de se adaptar a novos meios, novas ferramentas de trabalho e novas formas de comunicação, importa reflectir sobre a natureza do livro e sobre as características que distinguem os dois suportes, o tradicional e o digital. Assim, é nossa intenção perceber essas diferenças e enunciar alguns dos procedimentos que o ilustrador deve ter em conta quando experimenta a transição de um objecto de ilustração para um meio digital táctil como é o iPad.

O livro ilustrado, nas suas duas linguagens, texto e imagem, é quase sempre apresentado como um estímulo para a criança aprender, falar e ler. Que, apesar de conviverem no mesmo espaço – o livro – nem sempre são tratadas nem trabalhadas da mesma forma. O uso da imagem, no livro ilustrado, está associado às idades em que a criança ainda não tem domínio da escrita sendo a descodificação e a exploração das imagens as primeiras competências a serem adquiridas. À medida que a criança se familiariza com a leitura verbal e com o desenvolvimento desta competência, a imagem é gradualmente retirada do livro. Pretendemos neste artigo apresentar o livro ilustrado e as atividades/ experiências visuais como instrumentos que ajudam a criança a crescer sem frustrações através da educação da vista e do tacto, descobrindo e desenvolvendo capacidades estéticas, emocionais e intelectuais. Dentro do livro ilustrado pretendemos estudar os livros-objeto ou interativos que exploram a linguagem verbal e visual, criando uma narrativa plástica. Livros como os álbuns de Warja Honegger– Lavater onde só se usam símbolos em vez de palavras ou texto; os “Pré-livros” e os “livros ilegíveis” de Bruno Munari; os “livros vazios” e os “livros espaço” de Kveta Pacovská; os livros jogos como o “O cavaleiro coragem!” de Delphine Chedru ou “The book with a hole” de Hervé Tullet. Mas também, jogos/atividades como as criações de Mon Petit Art, Djeco e Mini Labo que permitem explorar a tridimensionalidade e o brincar ao faz de conta; entre outros. Todas estas referências são produtos de experiências visuais e tácteis, repletos de estímulos para que a criança seja capaz de explorar e comunicar verbalmente e visualmente, articulando muitas vezes entre o bidimensional com o tridimensional, a regra com o acaso e a forma com a “não forma”, permitindo uma apreciação máxima do objeto.

This paper was developed with the intention of broadly demonstrating the complexity of the area known recently as character development, as a creative process methods and implementation. It searches the understanding of the character itself, its place in the narrative and its reception by the reader or target audience. It is a multidisciplinary tool that faces a multitude of challenges from an increasingly demanding public and with specific goals in mind, and yet it also gives us valuable insight over how we interact with one another and the world around us, teaching us how to transfer such knowledge into fiction promoting empathic bonds between the reader and the characters. The human tendency to create is limitless and as old as mankind itself, we create, recreate and reinterpret and then populate such tales with believable characters from who we learn, and experience events and tales that shape our very lives.

O papel criativo dos autores na conceção de conteúdos para publicações eletrónicas de álbuns ilustrados tem sido preterido pelo papel de programador, já que na tentativa de explorar o mercado editorial online as editoras tendem a recriar o seu portefólio impresso no mundo das publicações virtuais[1] . Esta preferência tem como consequência a criação de conteúdos que ignoram as diferenças da manipulação e experiência de leitura que os diferentes tipos de publicação permitem. Devem os álbuns ilustrados eletrónicos libertar-se das ligações ao códice tradicional, permitindo que se legitimem enquanto objetos autónomos, assumindo as suas próprias regras de leitura? Qual o papel do ilustrador neste processo?

This work presents an analysis of the cultural and artistic field, positively compromised with social and political questions. The authors start with the categorization of the idea of culture and move to vindication art movements. These movements, which followed the first vanguards and worked from the compromise with “otherness”, are at the origin of the contemporary denomination of political art. In this context, the authors approach the origins of activist art, referring to issues of gender, multiculturalism, globalization, and poverty. The different forms of presenting content are also an object of analysis: from art tradition to the contamination of daily life, from local to global, from street contact to digital.

Dentro da criminalidade económica e financeira, temos o crime de corrupção. No Direito positivado, trata-se apenas de uma faceta muito específica que não deve ser confundida com a corrupção em termos gerais. O Direito penal é um Direito de garantias também face ao excesso de criminalização de acções e omissões, pelo que só deve haver punição se estivermos perante um grau de necessidade, adequação, proporcionalidade e intervenção mínima. As finalidades do Direito penal, nomeadamente através da criminalização de uma determinada corrupção,visam a retribuição, as prevenções gerais e especiais positivas e, em alguns casos em que isso é possível, a Justiça Restaurativa.

Rapid prototyping (RP) is an approach for automatically building a physical object through solid freeform fabrication. Nowadays, RP has become a vital aspect of most product development processes, due to the significant competitive advantages it offers compared to traditional manual model making. Even in academic environments, it is important to be able to quickly create accurate physical representations of concept solutions. Some of these can be used for simple visual validation, while others can be employed for ergonomic assessment by potential users or even for physical testing. However, the cost of traditional RP methods prevents their use in most academic environments on a regular basis, and even for very preliminary prototypes in many small companies. That results in delaying the first physical prototypes to later stages, or creating very rough mock-ups which are not as useful as they could be. In this paper we propose an approach for rapid and inexpensive model-making, which was developed in an academic context, and which can be employed for a variety of objects.

Nesta comunicação iremos abordar exemplos da prática do design enquanto processo, como uma metáfora de jogo, em que os intervenientes aceitam voluntariamente as regras e nele participam para atingirem um objectivo comum. Desta forma, interessa-nos explorar o design no contexto que vai para além do discurso forma/função/conteúdo – aquele que inclui elementos performativos, abertos, experienciais e orientados para o processo, numa prática participativa e de colaboração, aplicado ao contexto da educação. Como metodologia de trabalho iremos confrontar perspectivas actuais da teoria e da prática do design que equacionam esta problemática, procurando deste modo contribuir para a reflexão de estratégias metodológicas no ensino do design, no contexto contemporâneo.

In administering their territories, most local municipalities aim to preserve their natural, historical and ethnographical resources while simultaneously using them to increase revenue and employment. In order to efficiently promote the products and services available and attract tourists, decision makers, private and public, need to know and incorporate tourists’ preferences in their marketing strategies. In this chapter we illustrate the use of stated preferences as an instrument to identify national and foreign tourists’ preferences regarding the products and services that the touristic destination of the Minho-Lima region (Northwest Portugal) should offer. As a starting point, we have taken the three general groups of touristic resources mentioned above as attributes. We take Ponte de Lima, a municipality in this region that has a strong cultural tourism potential as an example to identify possible future tourism scenarios for this territory. We believe the previously identified methodology can be a valuable instrument in the identification of the strengths and weaknesses of the selected territory and, thus, support the decision making process behind its future tourist development and marketing strategies.
