O objetivo deste artigo é investigar aspectos da teoria clássica do cinema, com especial atenção aos primórdios do pensamento cinematográfico, visando ao esclarecimento de algumas controvérsias e o aprofundamento de determinados debates, os quais, ainda hoje, não parecem totalmente superados. Portanto, dois aspectos serão investigados: a oscilação entre aproximação e afastamento do cinema com relação às demais manifestações artísticas e a abordagem bipartidária da história da teoria do cinema, organizada em torno de dois eixos fundamentais, o formalista e o realista

O texto conjuga dois eixos: o das interações mediadas por dispositivos digitais de tipificação dos sujeitos e o de suas profanações, empreendidas por discursos acionados como operadores autorreflexivos da ação da própria mídia num contexto de crescente aprisionamento do indivíduo pela técnica – mas também de efetivas possibilidades de fratura estética. O filme Gigante (2009), problematizando no campo narrativo do cinema o aspecto invasivo acarretado pela utilização da tecnologia na vida contemporânea e aí interpondo o imprevisto da condição humana, reflete sobre a estatura da imagem e o papel dos equipamentos de vigilância, que perdem sua função de puro controle e convertem-se em possibilidade de escapatória

O Emmy de 2013 indicou séries produzidas pela Netflix, que nunca passaram por uma grade de programação televisiva. Esse fato abriu oportunidade para discussões sobre o que determina se um produto é televisual ou não, levando em consideração as teorias que definem produtos televisivos a partir da exibição no fluxo contínuo e as teorias que analisam essas produções diante das recorrências de características que denotam a constituição de gêneros textuais televisivos. O presente artigo tem como objetivo principal entender como programas fora do fluxo televisivo podem ser considerados produtos de televisão. Essa análise será realizada a partir das séries criadas pelo Netflix em 2013

Pensadores de tradição heideggeriana como Jean-Luc Nancy e Roberto Esposito, através de conceitos como ser-em-comum e communitas, sugerem uma ontologia fundamental da comunidade (Mitsein). Essa ontologia, entretanto, tem gerado dificuldade interpretativa e operacional em virtude do paradigma subjetivista que se antepõe à sua leitura. O objetivo deste texto é redescrever tal ontologia a partir de um deslocamento: da metafísica heideggeriana ao campo da “imanência absoluta” (Deleuze). Esse deslocamento, além de permitir estruturalizar e conferir operacionalidade comunicacional à referida ontologia, possibilita a observação de novos fenômenos políticos, a exemplo daqueles viabilizados pelos atuais dispositivos técnicos de comunicação

O discurso neoliberal, que se torna prevalente nas últimas décadas, destaca o papel ativo do consumidor. A agência do consumidor está associada a diversos fatores: retórica publicitária que enfatiza a cumplicidade com ele; tecnologias de si através das quais ele atua como empreendedor de si mesmo; mecanismos interativos que sugerem um aumento de sua participação; apelo à responsabilidade social em suas atitudes. Quando analisamos de perto cada um desses fatores, contudo, o suposto empoderamento do consumidor na contemporaneidade revela suas limitações

O livro reúne uma série de análises sobre a imprensa, a televisão e o rádio e expõe ao leitor um quadro histórico e sociológico da laicidade na França, assim como apresenta um mergulho nos aparatos teóricos e nas linhas metodológicas com as quais foram conduzidos esses estudos

O artigo reflete sobre quatro questões relacionadas aos estudos culturais, em diferentes dimensões: a formação e a prática dos estudos culturais (pragmática), o conceito central de conjuntura (conceitual), a natureza e limites do materialismo e do pós-humanismo (filosófica) e, por fim, sobre o conceito de cultura (empírica). Tais discussões são importantes para que os estudos culturais estendam seus debates além das fronteiras acadêmicas e adotem diferentes estratégias para entender e mudar o mundo.

In this article we explore a life course perspective on fandom, with particular emphasis on fandom and adult development. While there is growing interest in issues of age and aging within fan studies and within media studies more broadly, there is a tendency in this literature to discuss aging and the life course atheoretically, ignoring a rich body of scholarship in fields that examines how lives unfold over time. Our goal in this manuscript is to make explicit what is typically rendered implicit in fan studies to enrich our understanding of long-term and later-life fandom, and to suggest ways that fan studies might more fully account for fandom over time

The miniseries Suburbia, directed by Luiz Fernando Carvalho (Globo Television Network, 2012), turns the concept of pre-logical into a way to expose the multiple audiovisual aspect. The miniseries blends temporalities, causes a lack of definition between fiction and reality, and, through Roberto Carlos’ ballads, emphasizes the dimensions of affection and faith in a community of Rio de Janeiro. Some points of the miniseries clarify the syncretic way that the narrative was shaped in and assess the possibility of a new trend to be explored in Brazilian television fiction. The analytical instruments are based in Raymond Bellour, the narrative examination is based in Kristin Thompson, and the idea of oral pre-logic cultures in Lévy-Bruhl

A range of mobile technologies, multiple screens, and user engagement are arising in connected formats of media usage. Connected viewing is a term that refers to these varieties of platforms for content distribution and multiple viewing practices that are being developed, or have evolved, within the convergent digital landscape, and generates many disruptions in the viewing consumption. This paper presents the book anthology edited by Holt and Sanson, Connected Viewing: Selling, Streaming, & Sharing Media in the Digital Age, with subjects on how connected viewing is affecting the contemporary media environment such as business models of production, infrastructure, distribution, user engagement

This article discusses two stress fields. The first one regards the place of the body in philosophy from the dialogue with Nietzsche and Foucault. The second one comprehend the field of cinema, in which we propose a dialogue with White out, black in (2014), by Adirley Queirós, a film that shuffles bodies marked by police violence and that finds in the devices of science fiction a line of flight against the refuge of history. Between these two fields in dialogue – the thought of philosophy on the concept of body and the cinematographic work as artifice and strategy to documentary reports on resistance and fabling of the characters –, relations between memory and fiction, true and false arise

Research Methodology is compulsory within the stricto sensu graduate programs in Communication. Although reference works are of good quality, they limit themselves to discuss the process of the elaboration of research projects, with emphasis on its step- -by-step. However, you do not stimulate the researcher’s expansion of the meanings, as if sensibility were harmful to the scientific method. The present “text” was written for the Research Seminars of the ESPM Graduated Programme in Communication, with a focus on the pathos, in this way it aims at bringing the students near to the essential knowledge necessary to “make science”, entirely imprisoned in the logos. At each lecture, a “lyric extract” was distributed, on one of the items of the research projects

The text is a rejoinder to Francisco Rüdiger’s critique of the paper “A crítica da crítica essencialista da cibercultura” (Lemos, 2015). It reaffirms the central argument that the problem of technology critique is an essentialist view of the technique, and discusses the 3 issues indicated in the reply: 1. lack of academic references, 2. performative contradiction, and 3. uncritical endorsement. The work reveals the fragility of Rüdiger’s paper in not naming the interpretation errors of the main works used and in not being able to seriously analyze Latour’s (2012) theoretical proposal, presented with a counterpoint to the essentialist view of technology. The text refuses the listed issues and affirms the abstract aspect of the reply

Films provide important insights into the psychological, socio-political, and ideological make-up of a society and culture. Reading film diagnostically allows one to gain insights into social problems and conflicts and to appraise the dominant socio-political problems and crises of the contemporary moment. This article engages Hollywood films that contain allegories of catastrophe within the context of the Bush-Cheney era. As I attempt to show, horror, fantasy and other popular film genres articulate fears of the present moment concerning the state and the military, ecological and social crisis, and other phenomena, and can thus provide critical images and provide experiences that raise questions about the existing society

The proposal of this research is to present the role of communication consultancies in the application of the Access to Information Act (LAI) in the Government of Distrito Federal (GDF). The article analyzes the concept of Public Communication’s that argues about the importance of the dialogue between state and society. Thirty-one public agencies were interviewed. This sample was formed by more than 50% interviewed agencies. More than half of the advisers say that the communication area participates directly of the law application process. Almost 60% of them answered that the strategies for application of LAI make up the organization’s communication policies
