SOCIO-CULTURAL STUDY GROUP IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION (GESEF): A SEMI-BIOGRAPHICAL TRAJECTORY IN DIALOGUE WITH LEISURE STUDIES
This work, seeking to dialogue with production related to sport and leisure, describes and analyzes the trajectory of Sociocultural Study Group in Physical Education (GESEF), specially based on its ethnographic investigations. It presents portraits of unplanned investigative paths developed at their interface with anthropology. Such portraits of studies show points of reflections and contributions at different fronts: understanding sport practices as culture shared in groups, beyond absences and favoring appropriation in urban leisure contexts made up of ordinary people; understanding fun practices, including games and sports, as spaces for disputes and negotiations connected to everyday life and therefore as significant educational universes immersed in power relations; understanding the polyphony of interests that pervade sports practices, especially those that coexist “in leisure”, although they might appear antagonistic or ambiguous at first glance, hampering a priori difficult classifications and understandings; and understanding sport and recreational experiences in the lives of social actors in action, as social issues connected to politics, education, violence, work. Finally, the text emphasizes that it is not proposing to close discussions, but to bring elements that can contribute in understanding, especially with a view to intervention in the fields of sport and leisure.

PARTY IN SPORT: CONSTRUCTION OF ENTERTAINMENT IN RODEO
The study described rodeo and tries to understand the internal logic of its production as a leisure offer. Data were collected through participant observation at the Colorado Rodeo and interviews with rodeo hosts. Results are presented at four levels: (1) Global production of rodeo circuits; (2) The impact of the Rodeo Party on the city’s daily life; (3) The modus operandi in competitions; (4) The synergy between extramural space of the park, the fair, sports, and concerts. We conclude that, in order to join entertainment and sport at the rodeo, a process of rationalization of spectacle takes place, founded on a unique way of communicating with the audience and combining archaic elements of rural culture with modern entertainment technologies.

MARCEL MAUSS CONTRIBUTIONS TO LEISURE STUDIES
This study aims to identify and analyze possible contributions of the classical theory of Marcel Mauss "The gift", 1925, to leisure studies. The scientific production of leisure had strong influences of sociological studies, given the construction of the theoretical debate in this field from classical and contemporary authors. Anthropology is an area of knowledge that brings leisure contributions, especially by looking back the cultural dynamics in which different social groups are inserted and can thus complement and deepen aspects discussed originally by sociological studies. "The gift" was discussed in the research group and, since then, other texts were selected for the composition of this essay, following the suggestions of the group participants. As a technique, the forms of analysis of Severino (2007) were used: textual, thematic and interpretative. The study of the work of Marcel Mauss is part of a collective research project. The theory of the gift can be applied to leisure today from three points: 1) of the time and attitude category, 2) of the experience of values in favor: of the collective life, social life and respect for differences and 3) of the sociability aspect.

STUDIES OF LEISURE AND LEISURE STUDIES – THE CURRENT PHILOSOPHICAL DEBATE, POLITICAL AND CULTURAL
This study seeks to analyze and counteract the different modes of development of Ócio Studies (of Latin American origin) and Leisure Studies (from an essentially Anglo-Saxon background). Following the seminal work of Doistua (2006), we will discuss the main differences and similarities, whether conceptual or epistemological and methodological, among both scientific paradigms, as constituted since the late nineteenth century until today. At the end of this study, we question, in line with Inchaurraga (2012), the concept of leisure / recreation, in conjunction with the concept of work in the light of a weak reason as opposed to a strong reason as it is conceptualized by Vattimo. As a result of this journey, it is our goal to introduce the debate on leisure / ócio studies a political dimension, which seems to be absolutely essential for the further development of this theme as it appears in postmodernity, but that has been till now almost absent in investigations and reflections on this area of knowledge.

LEISURES IN ANCIENT ROME
The article makes a brief foray into the leisures of ancient Rome, from the monarchical period, using its literary mentions and modern historical investigations. It tries to show that the Roman civilization coexisted early with the activities of the free time and created mass leisure among the free population, already in the republican period, not only in the capital of the empire, but in all the provinces of its vast territorial domain.
THE LEGACY OF JOFFRE DUMAZEDIER: REFLECTIONS IN MEMORY OF THE CENTENARY OF HIS BIRTH
This article deals with the life and work of Joffre Dumazedier. It seeks to show its double face as educator and sociologist, man of action and researcher, at the moment when the centenary of his birth is celebrated. It seeks to show the author at the center of the ideas that guided his production and how they translated into a double product, organically articulated in four themes: it begins with the educator and creator of the method of mental training, passes to the leisure sociologist and then it pass to the socio-cultural sociologist, to finish with the educator, with the theme of self-formation. In this emphasis on the legacy that made him a reference in all these fields, it is sought to emphasize the essence of the ideas exposed in his books. It shows the main challenges he undertook and the innovations he introduced both in the fields he studied and in the educational action he developed. Additionally, it seeks to collect all of his works published in French and Portuguese.

THE CINEMA AS A LEISURE EXPERIENCE AND THE FEMALE CHARACTERS OF THE FILM "PARA MINHA AMADA MORTA": UNDERSTANDING VALUES, UNDERSTANDING MEANINGS
This article aims to discuss and analyze how women are represented in the Brazilian fiction feature “Para minha amada morta”, and to identify possibilities of empowerment for the female characters. This film was launched in 2016. The methodology of this qualitative research included bibliographical research, interviews and analysis of the graphic layout of the fundamental elements of visual communication and design in some scenes of the film. The female characters are portrayed in an antagonistic way, reinforcing a traditional model of conduct established by patriarchy. Although the cinematographic narrative is constituted by several aspects that could favor the emancipation of the women, these possibilities are stopped to the detriment of an exclusively masculine perspective.

THE ATHLETIC BEAUTY ON THE BIG SCREEN [1895-1936]
Our contribution is to present a brief study of the ways in athletic beauty was treated on the big screen from the beginnings to 1936. For this, our study will be based from concepts proposed by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht at work In Praise of Athletic Beauty (2006). We chose to compose the corpus of analysis a number of documentary movies that have as their theme the Olympic Games in the modern era to 1936.

GILLES PRONOVOST AND THE FUTUR OF SOCIOLOGY OF LEISURE: INTERVIEW
The text brings an interview with Gilles Pronovost, made through emails about his main themes: leisure, social times, work, family and culture. In order to understand the meaning of Gilles Pronovost in the sociology of leisure, it is enough to remember that for Joffre Dumazedier, the most suitable country for a Brazilian researcher to start in the study of leisure was not France, his country, nor the United States, where he said he had remade his old academic formation in Letters, becoming sociologist, working with Lazarsfeld and Riesman, but the Quebec. He said that in this Canadian province, francophone but with strong ties with the surrounding anglophone community, leisure studies have the singularity of seeking a synthesis between European "humanism" and anglosaxon "pragmatism" and did not hesitate to highlight the protagonism of Gilles Pronovost, for his studies and the creation and direction of the Laboratory of Social Times of the University of Québecà-Trois-Rivières and the bilingual magazine Loisir $ Société / Leisure $ Society. After Dumazedier's death, he joined Geoffrey Godbye in the USA, Robert Stebins in Canada, Chris Rojek in the United Kingdom, Lallive d'Pierpinay in Switzerland, Roger Sue and Jean Viard in France, in the gallery of leading leisure sociologists nowadays.

INCORPORATING VALUES: THE IDLENESS BEYOND THE COMMON SENSE
The test proposed here, of a theoretical-reflexive approach, aims to enable a broader view on the concept of idleness. Historically, diverse conceptions have been elaborated about this understanding, generating innumerable contradictions with respect to its meaning and value. At present, although it resurfaces as a matter of limited understanding, idleness has represented a subject of extreme importance and vitality. The proposal of revaluation of idleness and the construction of a theoretical reference on its real meaning have provided the acquisition of a vast knowledge about the human person and clarifying innumerable experiences and positions as a defense of the same. Based on the assumption that there is no consensus about the concept of idleness because it is a complex and vast theme that brings us to many possibilities, we will seek to delimit its meaning from the perspective of humanistic idleness.

SPORT MEGA EVENTS: BEYOND THE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
The main objective of this article is to discuss and analyse the research conducted since the 1980s regarding the possible impacts of sports mega events. As a rule, studies of these phenomena have been focused on economic aspects and tangible urban transformations. These analyses, however, do not take into account important social aspects related to the local population, especially those in fragile socioeconomic situation. Gradually, we observe a substantial increase in qualitative and interdisciplinary analyses in the context of sporting events, which has led to a broad discussion about the real impacts of these manifestations, be they positive or negative. A broader understanding of these effects – both in the short and long term – is paramount in constructing a critical view of the consequences engendered in hosting a global event. In addition, it is necessary to take into account regional and local elements since impacts vary greatly depending on where it is organized.

MEGA-EVENTS AND SOCIO-SPATIAL DYNAMICS IN RIO DE JANEIRO, 1919-2016
This article examines the ways in which discourses of urban development and socio-spatial discipline are wrapped around infrastructure development projects associated with recent, future, and proposed international mega-events in Rio de Janeiro. In the past few years the city and state governments of Rio de Janeiro invested billions of dollars in sporting, tourist, transportation and security infrastructures for the 2007 Pan American Games and hundreds of millions of dollars preparing for the 2014 World Cup and bidding (twice) for the 2016 Olympics. By looking at the historical trajec¬tory of mega-events in Rio de Janeiro, I argue that there has been a discernable shift in the ideologies that drive the production of mega-events in the city. These logics have discursively and materially shifted from more localized expressions of notions of social inclusion and industrial democracy in the mid-20th century to reflect the socio-spatial exigencies of capital in a period of accelerated globalization. I suggest that mega-events impose a neo-liberal “shock doctrine”, installing temporary regimes of extra-legal governance that permanently transform socio-space in Rio de Janeiro.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF LEISURE SPACES RESULTING FROM SPORTS MEGA EVENTS AND THE HUMANIZATION OF CITIES
The text proposal is to diagnose the transformations of the host cities of the South region in order to identify the changes that have occurred in the spaces and leisure and sports equipment. The spaces studied were the surroundings of the headquarters stadiums of Curitiba and Porto Alegre. We interviewed 55 guests from the delimited spaces and two managers. The main changes that took place in the leisure spaces around the host stadiums were the renovation of the Afonso Botelho square in Curitiba and the improvements that took place in the Marinha do Brasil park in Porto Alegre. However, it was noticed that the biggest concern was with the spectacle of the Soccer World Cup, trying to showcase a showcase of host cities. Games can be a pretext to improve the cities. However, legacies need to be well designed to maximize the quality and benefits for cities. But in the case of the cities studied, many of the projects were being planned and restructured as the Football World Cup approached.
