The institutionalized older subjects sequelae by Leprosy of U/E Abrigo João Paulo II
Objective: Identify how the stigma of leprosy is related to the aging process of elderly people who were forcibly asylees, still young in the Special Housing Unit John Paul II and analyze the history of life for seniors, from the account of his views on aging . Methodology: The survey was conducted in the Special Housing Unit John Paul II, featuring 12 seniors sequelae by leprosy and residents in this institution. The research had two stages: analysis and evaluation of medical records and interview the subjects selected following a script of the questionnaire. Results and Discussion: There were 12 seniors, aged 60-94 years, 50% men and 50% are women. As for the educational level have low levels of schooling, and 16.66% are illiterate and 83.33% with incomplete primary, and in relation to marital bond was observed that 75% are widowed, single and 16.66% 8.33 % married and 41.66% of those already mentioned have biological children, adopted children 25%, 16.66% biological and adopted children and 16.66% had no children. Conclusion: The aim was to overcome the statistical data, and the discourse constructed and socially acceptable around the leprosy, bringing those voices that express subjectivity, revealing the different ways of experiencing aging, helping to build an interdisciplinary gerontological knowledge.

Trauma in the elderly and prevention over the years: an integrative review
This article aims to identify the source of the trauma suffered by the elderly as well as the preventive measures undertaken to reduce this event. Integrative review conducted by the selection of articles on the Virtual Health Library, in January 2012, using the descriptors trauma, emergency care, nursing, eternal causes, prevention and elderly. The publication period was unconfined. The study was composed of 25 articles in full and analyzed using content analysis. It was evident that the main causes of trauma in the elderly were falls and traffic accidents. Furthermore, the shares evidenced prevention were promoting exercise, hydrotherapy and educational activities in traffic. Noteworthy is the negative influence of the trauma to the quality of life of the elderly and the need for planning of preventive actions to reduce the geriatric trauma.

Satisfaction with Life Seniors' Perception
A research was conducted aiming to understand the factors associated with life satisfaction in the elderly, in Barreiras (BA). The methodology chosen was qualitative. As a guiding question it was asked to the interviewed to talk freely about life satisfaction. Twenty-one seniors were interviewed, chosen by convenience, from different socioeconomic and cultural classes and several ages. The interviews were recorded and registered in mp3 format and it content was transcript in full. Data analysis was conducted considering the Grounded Theory and represented by Symbolism Theory. The results are shown in the description of three phenomena that were interrelated and integrated throughout the experience of life, when it comes to life satisfaction. These were the vertices in the base of the tripod that converged to what appears to be a sense of satisfaction with life, among them "Electing Affection Relations And Complicity With The Family, Friends And Leisure"; "Finding Happiness In Life, As It Was Built"; "Understanding Health Conditions And The Requirements Of Its Prevention As Their Determinants." Thus, satisfaction with life among the elderly, not only appeared as a clipping of a specific point, but as a lifelong path that gave moments of happiness, attitudes and desires, beyond the ramifications and implications that old age holds. After discovered these phenomena, we seek for patterns of connectivity between their components to conceptualize the core category and we understood the key points that allowed us to portray the experience of elderly in Barreiras - BA, during their lifetime, associated with the degree of satisfaction.

The undergraduate degree in Gerontology in Latin America and Portugal – an analysis of the degrees and of the offer of gerontological evaluation’s disciplines
The objective of this study is to analyze the offer of undergraduate degrees in Gerontology in Latin America and Portugal. 22 courses were located and it was analyzed by the course’s beginning, goal, professional profile, work load and duration. Among the 22 identified courses, 45,4% offer gerontological evaluation’s disciplines. Concluding there are countries’ growing warring on create professionals up to deal with an elderly population in growing.

The old age on the cinema screens: A look at the change of elderly occupational roles
Due to the increase in film production about aging this study sought to identify changes in the occupational roles of the elderly and how they were represented in the movies. This is a documental study, qualitative, which used films having a elderly people as protagonist. These were classified by gender and applied the Occupational Roles list. Of the 23 films analyzed, identified the papers lost, maintained and incorporated into old age, as well as conflicts in the face of change and/or the lack of plans for their lives.

Meanings of grandparents of Brazilian children from Bahia
Grand-parents have been subject of studies for already some time, but as people are getting older, great-grand-parents become to emerge at children lives horizon. This exploratory study is part of a bigger one where children were asked about the meaning of their family members, including theirs great-grand-parents. One general conclusion is some great-grand-parents may already be in the traditional place of grand-parent, for instance, giving support and caring.

Falls in institutionalized elderly people
The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of falls in institutionalized elderly people as well as to describe fall risk factors in this population. The information was obtained from reviewing medical records, conducting interviews and the tests Timed Up and Go, the Short Performance Physical Battery, the Mini Mental State Examination, the Functional Independence Measure and the Geriatric Depression Scale 15. The frequency of falls was at 22.2% and it was found that the risk factors are frequent in this cohort, thus evidencing a major risk for future falls.

The faces of human aging
As faces do envelhecimento humano, temática privilegiada no título deste Editorial relativo ao número 16(4) de nossa revista Kairós Gerontologia, quer nos dizer da plasticidade de olhar à condição humana e à riqueza da diversidade argumentativa quanto a objeto-teoria-método de seus autores. Quer dizer também da mobilidade que os trabalhos ostentam na sua avaliação “cega” por pares nacionais e internacionais. A esses pareceristas devem-se agradecimentos por tornarem possível o aperfeiçoamento da escrita científica dos trabalhos aqui inclusos.Cabe, de início, destacar que cada número de nossa revista tem trazido trabalhos, pelo menos 2, de autores estrangeiros (sejam artigos, resenhas ou entrevistas). O presente volume veicula, no seu total de 21 trabalhos vindos de diversas regiões brasileiras, os dois primeiros recebidos do exterior.

The role of intergenerational solidarity in digital literacy
In the context of ageing and the need to focus on intergenerational learning to develop digital literacy, this study applies the Theory of Planned Behaviour to analyse university student’s intentions to help seniors acquire digital skills. We applied a questionnaire to 135 students and the results enphasise the need to promote educacional pro-social strategies to enhance the value of solidarity and designing meaningful activities for both generations.

Employee Profile of an Institution for the Aged
By the aging of the population was chosen the theme of this research to evaluate the conditions of senior care performed by employees in long-stay institutions. This is a qualitative and quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research that show a predominance of women with average age of 33 years, struggling to define basic concepts for the care and differences in their responses regarding the provision of services to the elderly.

Benefits of the karate practice for elderly
Nowadays, the elderly people are looking for innovative practice of physical exercises in addition to the traditional approaches: walking, water aerobics and weight training. However, there is a lack of information in scientific articles regarding the practice of Karate in the elderly population. Objective: this study is aimed at analyzing the body mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength for lower members, flexibility and the mood among elderly people with hypertension who practice karate. Methods: A quantitative study, led with 13 women with a mean age of 64.78 years, diagnosed with hypertension, who performed karate lessons for three months, three times a week, with an interval of 48 hours rest. The variables of the study were: nutritional profile, blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength to inferior members, flexibility and humor. Results: Were identified significant improvements (p<0.05) for: Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference, blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and flexibility of the lower members. No significant changes to the areas of the Profile of Mood State (POMS) were observed. Conclusion: The karate promotes benefits for hypertensive elderly people by increasing cardiorespiratory fitness, decreased blood pressure, decreased BMI and waist circumference and may be considered more of an option exercise used in the treatment/control of hypertension for the identified benefits among subjects searching the facilitation of their day-to-day and more active aging.

The old age victim of the violence: State’s omission and repercussions to Social Service
The violence, seen from the perspective of social totality, is revealer of particularities. On intend to go to this problem's centre, the current study has as objective to analyze the violence like a tendency of State's omission in the content of Social Policies. Through the Social Service's theoretical and critical grounding and the interpretation of demographic and epidemiological information, it concludes that State's omission, by means of Social Policies, consist in a negligence to old age of worker class causing contradictory demands to Social Service.

Relationship between waist- hip ratio and body image in middle-aged women and older physically active
The study seeks to relate self-image with the waist / hip ratio and thus assess satisfaction with self-image in women with a mean age of 60.5 (± 11.12) years. To assess satisfaction with body image was used to scale drawings of silhouettes of Stunkard, Sorensen and Schulsinger (1983). Most women are dissatisfied with their body image. Interventions in this group are needed through psychological and nutritional studies, in addition to physical activity.

Reasons for dropout in a program of physical activity for elderly
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to investigate the reasons for abandonment of physical activity in a program for seniors. The sample consisted of 31 participants dropped out of the project. The instrument was structured with open-ended questions by telephone interview. There is interest in continuing activities, but health conditions do not allow the practice in the same perspective, indicating the need for other modes of attention.

The aim of this study was to identify the lines and research topics of dissertations in the first decade of the stricto sensu in Gerontology program at Catholic University of Brasília, as well as the undergraduate course of its students and their mentors. It was concluded that interdisciplinarity, relevant and desirable feature in Gerontology, was valued in this program, since the large number of master's graduates in the areas of health conducting research with socio-historical-cultural theme.
