The contemporary cultural dynamics and the upgrading of life

This work has the purpose to analyze the contemporary cultural dynamics, deeply marked by the relation between space and time, as well as by new connections between identity flows and technology. Believing that the temporality in which we live has volatility between the commodities as well as highlights new forms of sociability that redefine the individual’s lives, unattached to their respective ages. In the current context of globalization, where lass defined borders presents themselves, in relation to physical and territorial demarcation, we can establish that the dynamics of culture gains other concepts and articulations that go beyond the traditions as well as belongings. In this scenario, this paper aims to develop a critique of the economic model that bases an ideology of progress (growth), but does not deal with many other emergencies that arise in other fields of reflection as ecological, cultural, and informational.  .

Reflections on nursing care in institutionalized elderly

This study aims to report academic experiences of nursing graduate students, experienced during the probationary period, observing the assistance of nursing care to 38 elderly residents in a Long-stay Institution, located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted in the period of 10 to 13 October 2013, which was possible by field lessons practices of the discipline "Nursing in Elderly Care", from the curriculum of the bachelor’s degree course in Nursing. From empirical observation and the dialogue with officials of the institution and elderly residents, it was possible to identify the difficulties in nursing care, the delimitations of the physical structure and especially the limitations in professional training of nursing, in order to offer appropriate assistance to the elderly even when it comes to basic care techniques. It is believed that the implementation of humanized and holistic care, and the development of practices beyond the basic care, should promote better care for these residents, as much as reframe your aging process and care in ILPI. Therefore, it is essential that nurses reflect on competent and responsible practices, the essence of their profession, which is the taking care.

Perception of biographical time in the fourth age: cases study

Since human life passes through an irreversible time axis, the passage of time makes us face with the idea of finiteness. As people age there is a change in their time perception and in the idea of their own death. With the aim of studying the changes related to their own temporality, this study analyses biographical trajectories of people in the fourth age. The analysis is based on three pillars: vital projects, organization of everyday life and bodily changes. An exploratory qualitative study was carried out based on 23 biographical interviews that constituted an intentional sample of self-validated persons, born between 1917 and 1932, from different socio-economic status and residing in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Results suggest that for people in their fourth age, time perception is narrow. There is a decentering of oneself and a concern about transcendence and continuity (symbolic and biological) both related to grandparantage.

The Tired Death in the vision of the filmmaker Fritz Lang

This work studies the finitude of aging through the film Death Tired of the filmmaker Fritz Lang. It discusses the vision of the filmmaker, especially human existence, with the central theme the reflection on issues of aging and death intrinsically linked to the issue of life's meaning, referring to discussions about the immortality of the soul and the existence of God. Lang presents, in this film, the story of three lights: attempts of hope, conflicts over love, the conquest of life and acceptance of death. Research shows that the art done through film contributes to the understanding of the finite nature of life, a complex issue in old age, the constant search for answers to the concerns of what it means to die; what it means to the elderly to be definitively a finite being.

Quality of life perceived by women in different kinds of physical exercise

The aging is a complex process that involves several variables such as physical health integration, psychological well being, personal and environmental relationships. The goal of this study was to assess the quality of life perceived by women in different types of physical exercises. The study was descriptive, with a cross-section, and the sample was composed by 45 women at ages between 50 and 60, divided in three groups: combined exercises, volleyball and sedentary. Both have been practicing physical exercises for at least two years. An abbreviated version in Portuguese of the instrument World Health Organization´s WHOQOL-Bref Quality of Life Assessment was used. The levels of satisfaction with the quality of life found for the physical, psychological, social and environmental relationships in the combined exercises and in the volleyball domains were meaningful, showing the existence of differences between the domains. However, in the sedentary ones, there were no significant differences, showing a homogeneity of values between the domains, and they were smaller than those in the ones who practice physical exercises. The importance of the physical exercise as means of health protection, promotion and prevention is observed, influencing in a positive way the well being and the quality of life

RE-AIM: a proposal for evaluating physical activity programs

The purpose of this article is to present how the RE-AIM framework can be used in the planning and evaluation of physical activity promotion programs. Using the "VAMOS Program" (Vida Ativa Melhorando a Saúde), conducted with the elderly in Florianópolis, we demonstrate its applicability. The RE-AIM framework consists of five dimensions that together, when properly applied, maximize the public health impact of health-related interventions. We further identify the applicability and potential of the RE-AIM in the Brazilian context, and suggest that this framework could be used in the planning, evaluation and dissemination of physical activity promotion programs.

Involuntary freedom in elderly widows- Narrative insights

O velho e a morte
