Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease characterized by recurrent seizures. However, current anticonvulsants are ineffective in nearly a third of patients and can cause adverse effects. Beta-caryophyllene is agonist of type 2 cannabinoid receptors, which exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities. Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant used as an adjunct in the treatment of epilepsy. Given the fact that drug resistance is increasingly frequent in patients with epilepsy, we tested the hypothesis that the beta-caryophyllene associated with pregabalin exhibits anticonvulsant effect in a model of acute seizures induced by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) in rats. Furthermore, the possible neuroprotective effect of the pharmacological association in the frontal cortex were evaluated. For this purpose, adult male Wistar rats were connected to the electroencephalogram equipment, where they received the following treatments: (i) beta-caryophyllene 100 mg / kg, i.p.; (ii) pregabalin 40 mg / kg, i.p.; (iii) PTZ 60mg / kg, i.p.; and/or their vehicles with a 30-minute interval between each administration and observed for 15 minutes after the last treatment. Latency for myoclonic, tonic-clonic seizures, duration and seizure score were measured. Our results demonstrated that beta-caryophyllene in combination with pregabalin increases the latency to onset of PTZ-induced myoclonic and tonic-clonic seizures, as well as reducing the duration and score of these crises. These data were corroborated by the electroencephalographic recording. Regarding molecular analyses, PTZ-induced seizures caused a reduction in the Nuclear Factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) levels, which was not prevented by the combined treatment of beta-caryophyllene with pregabalin. Of note, decreased levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), c-Fos and 3-NT was observed in animals that received both treatments. These results are possibly due to an addition-type interaction between both substances. However, additional studies are examined to investigate how clinical these findings are, as well as their underlying components.

There is a growing demand for bridges with prestressed precast segments, thus, the need for further study and development of this system is evident. Currently, these bridges use connections between segments by joints with shear keys, which present fairly divergent design models. The aim of this work is to develop calculation models to be used in calculating the shear force of seals with shear keys, with and without epoxy adhesive, as well as for flat joints with epoxy adhesive, which can be used in bridges composed of prestressed precast segments. Therefore, the methodology employed is initially to study the problems in joints, with emphasis on joint systems that use shear keys. Next, we define joint models with shear keys in order to test them by theoretical, computational numerical analysis, using the finite element method and an experimental program. Totally, 27 joint specimens were tested in the experimental phase. It was verified that the use of epoxy adhesive in joints with shear keys provided increases in shear force up to 55.47%. Compering the proposed model for joints with shear keys and epoxy adhesive with the experimental results, we always obtained low differences, not exceeding 8%. Considering the proposed model for joints with dry shear keys, we verified that there was a maximum difference of less than 8%, with an average of less than 5%. Finally, regarding the flat joints and epoxy adhesive model, it presented a behavior very close to the experimental one, resulting in variations of less than 5%. These results and conclusions attest to the efficiency and consistency of the proposed models when compared to the theoretical models tested.

This study is intended to address the themes of the Entrepreneurial State, Innovation and Defense through the FX-2/Gripen NG Program for Brazil. In order to demonstrate that the government can present itself far beyond a merely formal and bureaucratic entity, assuming the role of a strategic player in social and economic changes and evolutions, this research transits through multidisciplinary themes and draws from national and international sources in the areas involved. The initial approach goes through the issue of the entrepreneurial State and the redefinition of its role in society, seeking to present elements that collaborate with the understanding that not only do modern actions and mechanisms of state participation in the economy exist, but that such moments need to be demonstrated and absorbed by society in general, increasing the feeling of belonging and collectivity with what is public. In a second moment, innovation will be presented as one of the main tools through which these movements of modernization and progress of the State occurred, are taking place and could intensify over the years. The highlight in this topic is what is exposed in the OECD's Oslo Manual (2018) and the standardization of instruments that seek to measure innovations and generate reliable indices for comparison between different countries. Finally, a context on the national defense scenario will be pointed out as a prolific possible link between the entrepreneurial State and the innovation brought about, with the Gripen NG Program emerging as an object of analysis. In this scenario of international cooperation and transfer of high technology, Gripen NG demonstrates high potential to become an exponent in this context and to be one of the catalysts for future innovation actions for Brazil. In this way, the study aims to characterize the FX-2 Program (which gave rise to the Gripen NG Program), as well as to perceive, according to the orientation of the Oslo Manual (2018), the Innovations in Business Processes and Product Innovations presents in the FX-2 Program. The research elements used are essentially based on official written documental analysis on the matter, in addition to audiovisual elements produced in a web series by Saab about Gripen NG. In this way, it is possible to see how the innovation process has been taking place throughout the FX-2 Program, not only in direct technological and military terms, but also in industrial and knowledge production processes in the companies involved, as well as through the involvement of researchers and scientists in related fields. Likewise, it presents a latent field of research for the most varied sectors, in a theme with great aptitude for development and still not so well explored in the national academic scene, particularly in the civil sphere.

The work seeks to elucidate and understand relevant aspects in the structure of paradoxical undecidable sentences in consistent formal systems that contain Dedekind-Peano Arithmetic. The first chapter exposes the investigations and advances in Mathematics and Logic associated and the philosophical conceptions that culminated in Kurt Gödel's First Incompleteness Theorem, published in his article Über formal unentscheidbare Sätze der Principia Mathematica und verwandter Systeme I, in 1931. We will make a historical and conceptual approach to Mathematics from the second half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century with its main lines of thought, indicating the mathematical elements and instruments developed to solve certain problems, as well as philosophical assumptions and commitments that accompanied the activities aimed at the formalization and foundation of contemporary Mathematical Logic that helped Gödel to elaborate his demonstration and to explain limitations of such formal systems. The second chapter aims to analyze the components and expose or elaborate formalized undecidable sentences based on paradoxes considered epistemic or semantic. Will be discussed paradoxes expressed implicitly and explicitly in the structure of undecidable sentences. We approaching similarities and distinctions of both finite and infinite undecidable sentences, seeking to understand the proofs and phenomena that lead to the incompleteness of formal systems that contains Dedekind- Peano Arithmetic. Soon after, the third chapter will focus on the application of Algorithmic Information Theory developed by Gregory Chaitin to demonstrate a discussed version of incompleteness of formal systems based on Berry's Paradox. The critical literature on this information-theoretic version will be resumed, as well as an analysis based on the sentences seen above, carrying out a scrutiny of the justifications and definitions used in Chaitin's proof. At the end, we open a discussion about the nature of incompleteness associated with the notion of computability and the limits of finite mechanical processes.

The present dissertation analyzes criminal processes of Deflowering and Rape occurred from 1918 to 1942, in the city of Santa Maria (RS), involving black women. The discussion around female virginity involved several intellectuals from the turn of the 18th to the 19th century, for them, the woman should be demure and work for the home, preserving herself to marriage. The hymen was the main indication of virginity and honesty, and women who were victims of Deflowering and Rape used the judicial apparatus to restore their honor and the honor of their families. These processes provide information that helps to understand that there was a "moral" and "good manners" of society at that time. This research aims to analyze the statements of those involved in the Defloration and Rape processes to understand the mentality of that moral present in the context of those women.
