Immigration and resistance

This article aims to analyse the representation of female characters in the context of German language immigration literature. With focus on resistance, this article discusses the intersection of gender and immigration in the short story “Schatten und Schritte” written by Aysel Özakin and the novel All Russians Love Birch Trees by Olga Grjasnowa. The first text, published in 1985, presents a voice of the first wave of the history of migratory flows to Germany, the second one, published in 2012, develops a discussion about female perceptions and resistance practices after the turn of the millennium. Resistance is understood in this context as a process of recognizing, naming and repressing acts which produce inequalities. The first text connects resistance to a feeling of guilt, the second focusses, above all, on the autonomy obtained through acts of resistance.

BABELIZATION AND DESBABELIZATION (FOR A UTOPY OF VIRTUAL)

This paper is a brief description of some characteristics of virtual culture, thought here from some discussions made on the concept of the time. The utopy is tied with the movement’s own frenetic and infinite time, and help us shape the contours of babelization and desbabelization. The babelization presuppose mechanisms of production/reception related to proliferation, the confusion (Babel) or amalgam of languages and materials (media) of virtual culture. The desbabelization is linked with the reproduction of same, the homologies or similarities and parody disseminated in the virtual culture.

What do we know about interventions with perpetrators of domestic and family violence?

Internationally, there has been growing understanding that to prevent gender-based violenceit is necessary to work and involve men. After the promulgation of Law 11340 of 2006, which brought legal prediction for this kind of interventions in Brazil, academic debate has advanced significantly. However, the topic needs to be critically reviewed, in order to articulate the national studies. Given this framework, the purpose of this article is to analyze the national academic production on the subject from the specialized literature and national reports. The results suggest the possibility of transformations in the relationships, however, bring to light weaknesses in the structure of the policies to combat violence.

The CTS approach and critical mathematics education as a teaching-learning strategy in teacher training in mathematics

This article is based in a master´s research and to discuss relevant aspects of a continuing education course for teachers who teach mathematics, based on the CTS approach (Science, technology and society) and Critical Mathematics Education approaches. The research qualitative, occurred in two moments. First, we performed an analysis of mathematics issues contained in the ENEM (National High School Exam) (2012-2016), to investigate if such questions had in their context, questions related to the CTS approach. In a second moment, considering the tripod: Teaching, Research and Extension, we developed a continuing education course, based on the CTS and EMC approaches, to identify how teachers understand the CTS and EMC approaches and how they incorporate the theme in their practice, and build with teachers, contextualized strategies for teaching mathematics. The analyzed questions were used as a teaching-learning tool to discuss possibilities to include the CTS and EMC approaches in mathematics teaching. We observed that teachers did not know the CTS and EMC approaches; either did they consider the subject matter in their practice. In this way, we emphasize the importance of continuing education courses, as it presents the teacher with new didactic-pedagogical strategies, as well as, it allows important discussions about their practice.

Regulations of culture: gender and sexual diversity in the Belém’s June contests

Looking at the regulations guiding the June contests promoted as public policy by the municipal government of Belém and state government of Pará, I intend to understand how these documents try to manage the intense participation of homosexuals and transgender people in these events. What do these regulations say? What are the implicit and explicit ways in which the State refers to sexual and gender diversity? With these questions in mind (and based on field work done between 2012 and 2016 in the Belém’s June competitions), I seek to answer them from the analysis of these documents and the discourses that are built around them.

Financial sustainability of the Beira-Rio arena: venue of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Porto Alegre

The transformation of traditional football stadiums into multipurpose sports arenas is an international trend that was boosted in Brazil by the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The purpose of this study was to analyze the financial sustainability of the Beira-Rio arena, one of the venues of the event. Documents were analyzed, site visits were carried out and interviews were conducted with the managers. The results indicated that the Beira-Rio project includes eight sources of revenue: box office, VIP spaces, parking, advertising, shopping center, non-sporting events, catering and visitation to the facilities. Beira-Rio is currently in a process of transition between a traditional football stadium and a multipurpose sports arena. In 2017, it presented an approximate loss of R$ 8,08 million, not proving to be financially sustainable; however, it could become sustainable, with a profit of approximately R$ 38,51 million per year, if existing revenue sources are increased.

University consecration, symbolic capitals and financial positions: The study of the profile of production engineers at the Polytechnic University of São Paulo

The main objective of this article is to highlight the analysis of symbolic capital, tastes and lifestyles of production engineers (students and ex students) of the Polytechnic University of São Paulo (USP). We will enjoy this article through the qualitative methodology and consequent use of semi-structured interviews, the proposition that the symbolic markers aforementioned direct these engineers (managers) for positions in the finance world, as such, financial consulting and financial market. In short terms, we can see that, there are homologies with respect to the mentioned symbolic markers and the occupation of these engineers in recent prominent positions. Beyond the previous observation, it should be mentioned that these heralds of finance are just the new agents that are mediating and feeding dynamics and power plays within the current financial capitalism.

Theoretical perspectives of the recognition of sexual identities in face of human rights and the fraternal law

Identities gain meaning in social contexts. Therefore, based on a hypothetical- deductive study, it is intended to reflect on the importance of the identity recognition of sexualities to accomplish human rights, presenting the contributions and limits of the Fraternal Right on this theme. It is noticed that the recognition of sexual identity has evolved in legal terms, but is still surrounded by prejudices and stereotypes, reflected in the promotion and exercise of these rights. The Fraternal Law contributes to reflections of realities based on premises aimed at alterity, which facilitates the recognition of non-heteronormative sexual identities, although it is needed profound cultural change.
