Regulation of the female body in the pharmacy almanac d’A Saúde da Mulher

This paper discusses aspects of the regulation of the female body, from the end of the 19th century to the mid 20th century, based on the analysis of a selection of numbers from the pharmacy almanac entitled d’A Saude da Mulher (Women’s Health). The publication was one of the most read by the ladies of that time and advertised the most popular medicine in the national industry for their health. It featured medicines ads, horoscopes, illustrations, letters from readers, among other contents. Involved in moral discourses, they acted as a pedagogical device, teaching, inspiring and regulating behaviors and modeling subjectivities, especially those of women, who should be docile, good mothers, wives and home caregivers. This essay argues how the almanacs acted as instruments of regulation of the female body, spreading ideals of femininity/virility, family, health, hygiene and national progress.

Conceptions on science of students of normal course and possible professional implications

Faced with the relevance of science in postmodernity and its contribution to humanity, students' conception of science and scientific doing became the object of academic study. This research analyzed the conceptions about science and the scientific job in students of a Public Normal Course of the South of Brazil, future teachers of the Initial Years of Elementary Education. A qualitative-comprehensive, interpretive methodology was used, based on participants' answers to an open question and graphic representation about science and scientists, using Hermeneutic Phenomenological Analysis (HPA). We was concluded that, for these participants, science is, basically, an experimental assignment and uses the standard scientific method, being practiced by men with poor social life, moved by a high idealism. At the end of this article, the implications of these conceptions on the future pedagogical practices of these participants are commented.

The vision of the disabled person by children without disabilities intermingled by the dance: a meeting of possibilities

Brazilian society is legally inclusive. However, difficulties in putting it into effect appear mainly related to personal interactions. Thus, this study aimed to verify the reconstruction of perception by children without disabilities about the capacity of people with disabilities through dance. For that, a research was developed in three phases: an initial conversation and drawing by 13 children of the SESC Santana Sport Course, about the person with disability and their possibilities of dancing; an intervention with the children's experience of the Methodology Contact and Improvisation, with the interaction with a group of dancers with disabilities; and a later construction of a new drawing on the same theme. With the data appreciated by content analysis, it was verified that the contact between the children and people with disabilities through the dance contributed to the overcoming of prejudices and the understanding of the potentialities of this population.

Tax transactions and extrafiscality: an approach in the light of proportionality control

The purpose of this article is to give a brief reflection about the taxation programs developed in Brazil, in the light of proportionality control. For this purpose, the institute established in art. 171 of the National Tax Code (CTN) and the historical context in which it is inserted, and then to confront it with the principle of equality, in order to demonstrate that proportionality can be used as a legitimate criterion for the control of policies taxpayers’ behavior, notably from the fulfillment of the criteria of adequacy, necessity and proportionality in the strict sense.

Vascular epiphytes of Serra de Itabaiana National Park, Sergipe, Brazil

The objective of this work was to conduct a floristic survey of the vascular epiphytes of Serra de Itabaiana National Park (PARNASI) in Sergipe State. The lack of research about epiphytes in Sergipe was the reason for the study in PARNASI, which is very important for the conservation of species in the state. The study sought to answer three questions. How many and what are the species of vascular epiphytes that occur in PARNASI? What are the ecological categories of the epiphytes sampled? How similar is the epiphytic flora of PARNASI to other areas studied in Brazil? The inventory was carried out by walking throughout the park (active search). All vascular epiphytic species were collected, herborized and deposited in the UFS herbarium (ASE). A total of 47 species, in 29 genera and 10 families, were collected. The results of the similarity analysis showed low floristic similarity between the study area and those of other regions. The high number of exclusive taxa in the areas, studied and compared, reveals the great importance of each site for the conservation of epiphytic species.

Decolonial menstruating

Menstruation was part of a patriarchal colonization of bodies throughout the history of Western thought. In the past four years, however, a series of proposals has been straining such a colonization process, especially those born in the territories of Abya Yala. This article focuses on such examples that belong to the so-called Natural Gynecology, and analyses them through the semiotic exploration of two themes: on the one hand, the language that those discourses use in handbooks, fanzines or websites; on the other hand, the knowledge that they build and/or vindicate under the premises of female empowerment, health self-management and corporal pleasure.

The virtual double-slit experiment to the High School level (Part II): a quantum analysis of behavior corpuscular and wave aspect of the light

This work analyzes the virtual double slit experiment and it has been divided into two parts: Part I, which dealt with the classical behavior analysis (corpuscular and wave) and Part II (this article) addresses the quantum behavior of light (photons). The methodology process has been divided into three (3) steps: (i) First, we analyze based on the use of virtual experiments, the behavior of a beam of light across a wall with two slits. In this case, it is light shows interference. (ii) Then, we use the same experiment, but in this situation with individual photons. The photons behave like waves and show interference, such as before. (iii) Finally, to find out what was happening, put a detector near the cracks. In this situation, strangely, the photons behave like particles (corpuscles). In order to explain these results, we use the notation of brackets proposed by Paul Dirac (1902-1984) that allows us to represent the state vectors, which allow us to show, mathematically, what happens in the double slit experiment with quantum objects. Due to the mathematical complexity (for high school) intrinsic to the notation of Dirac we proposed a sort of "translation" of this mathematical resource for this level. We believe that this device could be useful for understanding other concepts of quantum mechanics, such as spin 1/2 and two-tier systems’.

It´s all a card deck: technoaesthesis and infocognition (about the order and predicades of couplings in contemporary circumstance)

By assessing the most radical consequences of McLuhan's tought, we conquer a point-of-experience, or a point-of-existence, from which one can surpass the naive level which prescribes "ethics of use" of technology for "good ends". We have, thus, a "copernican turn", that is our couplings to apparatuses modulating the changes in our relationship with the world, its processes, the others and the things -- a relationship that could be also understood as "perception", and which is the basis of its own ethics. This article defines the concepts of (1) technoaesthesis: the circumscription, in the body, of a particular domain of perceptual operations, by the inescapable coupling to the midiatic circumstance; and (2) infocognition: the particular domain of outputs that emerge from that -- gestures, language, cultural forms, economic practices, etc., which are symptoms of the sense embedded in the "DNA" of the apparatuses. By means of these concepts, we aim to play with certain cards of western thinking to propose some ways to think, in this key, such couplings and their consequences to the interpretation of our contemporary circumstance.

Solidarity and humanitarian intervention: a brazilian action in Haiti as a new legal paradigm of international solidarism

Currently, considering the exponential growth of the human knowledge, undeniably due to the proliferation of academic disciplines, any deeper analysis of society becomes more and more impossible, viewing it only from an individualist look and distant from the other branches and dimensions of knowledge. Therefore, the present study aims to formulate new concepts and perspectives, able, in turn, to foster the development of new theoretical nuances and models of observation of reality, and having, as an essential assumption, the examination of the elements necessary for the construction of a new legal paradigm of humanitarian intervention. At first, we will analyze the elements that are part of the concept of solidarity so that, afterwards, we can propose their application to the humanitarian international law, considering, at this point, the specificities surrounding the Brazilian action in Haiti. Thus, this approach on the issue of international humanitarian aid aims at proposing the inauguration of a new kind of international solidarity, which will conceive the international humanitarian intervention not as a mere sending of troops or supplies, but as the necessary moment for the formulation of transnational public policies. Key-words: Solidarity; Humanitarian intervention; Solidarism; Public policy; Haiti

Aesthetics and symmetry in Newton’s laws: an analysis of some textbooks used in physics initial teacher training

Taking into account a conception of education aimed at promoting the human being, this work highlights the search for the aesthetic and symmetrical bases of the phenomena in Newton's laws and how or if these bases are presents in some textbooks of physics used in courses of graduation in the area, aiming to propose a reflection on its possible implications for the teaching of Newton's laws. These bases, of epistemological nature, are related to isotropy and homogeneity of space and irreversibility of time, essential to comprehend three fundamental principles of physics: conservation of linear and rotational momentum and energy, which are involved in Newton’s laws. Thus, we performed a historiographical research on the concepts of aesthetics and symmetry, aiming to identify the aesthetic assumptions used in the foundation of these laws. These results were used in a second stage of the research in the proposition of instruments of analysis on such contents in textbooks. Next, five books used in the physics teachers training were analyzed. From the highlight of this work, we aim to reveal that the books do not discuss the subject, presenting a naturalized, linear and encyclopedic version of physics concepts, quite different from what the authors who discuss aesthetics and symmetry propose.

Map of research on experimentation in chemistry teaching in Brazil

This work analyzes the academic production expressed in dissertations and thesis on experimentation in Chemistry teaching, defended in Postgraduate Programs related to the areas of Teaching, Education and Chemistry of the CAPES from 2004 to 2013. Dissertations (122) and theses (21) were investigated based on the following descriptors: year of defense; level of academic qualification; geographical region; institution; educational level and thematic focus. The results showed a significant growth in the number of studies on the subject in question. The most researched levels of education were high school (68.5%) and higher education (27.3%), whereas the most important thematic focus was experimentation as a didactic strategy (58.3%) and experimentation in teaching materials (20.2%). Experimentation related to preservice and inservice teacher education was still incipient, 7.1% and 13.1% of production, respectively, enabling us to infer that this is an important gap to be filled by future studies.

Analysis of texts of scientific dissemination on genetics inserted in biology textbooks

This article presents the relation of scientific dissemination (SD) with genetics and textbooks. It was questioned what changes occur in the SD texts when they are inserted in the Biology textbooks and what implications these changes can cause in students' understanding about science. The objective of this research is to analyze the possible modifications carried out in the textbooks in relation to their original sources. One collection of high school biology textbooks was selected and seven texts were analyzed according to the categories of discursive re-elaboration, nature of science, language and degree of hybridity of the texts of the textbooks. The results indicated that the exclusion was the most frequent element during discursive re-elaboration, although the texts contribute to a vision of the nature of science and present linguistic resources that facilitate the reader's understanding of important resources to be used in teaching.

Visual Scientific Communication: approaches in information science

Objective: The study presents a discussion about scientific communication realized based on visual records, conceptualized as visual scientific communication. For that approach, it is developed an integrative revision in order to identify, from a survey in the Base for Reference Data of Articles and Journals in Information Science (BRAPCI), in the Data Base of Thesis and Dissertations of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (BDTD/IBICT), and in the annals of the National Meeting of Research in Information Science (ENANCIB), the comprehension about this concept and how visual scientific communication is discussed in the area of Brazilian Information Science (IS), with emphasis on iconographic documents. Methods: From the methodological point of view, this study is characterized as an exploratory and descriptive research based on a documentary approach with a mixed approach. Results: The surveyed results evidenced that the communication developed in that area of knowledge is restricted to textual and written documents, with emphasis on the bibliometric analysis of scientific journals. Conclusions: Thus, in the final considerations it is shown that there is an incipiency of works which contemplate visual records as bearers of a given scientific knowledge that enable the divulgation of scientific information about a determined theme. This way, the developed initial work enables a debate about the referred theme, contributing to a more comprehensive discussion in relation to the advertising of the production of scientific information.

Ontological and epistemic aspects in clinical terminologies: looking for semantic interoperability in the medical environment

Objective: The improvement in the continuing care provided to the huge population in healthcare units is a real challenge to Brazilian society. One of the main issues in this context, which healthcare professionals are not able to solve by themselves, is the difficulty of integration among the medical records of a patient that are scattered around different geographical and temporal regions.Method: The present research investigates the ambiguity inherent to medical terminologies – particularly the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) – which impacts in the possibilities of semantic interoperability among electronic healthcare records. Results: As solution, we study how to anchor medical terms exhibiting weak semantics to ontological and well-founded resources. The double process of anchoring, which consists of connecting terminologies to well-founded ontologies and adopting atomic terms, was created with the aim of reducing the ambiguity in the scope of healthcare information systems. Conclusions: Interoperability is an issue without a trivial solution. The proposed anchoring is a possibility to foster systems integration because of the connection to well-grounded resources built with the best practices. We hope the results can provide advances to the information systems used in healthcare systems and, ultimately, to the continuing care to the citizen, through the Information Science techniques.
