Contributions of complexity productions: subsidies to scholar scientific education

Complexity perspective announces a way of thinking and acting in consideration of situations from the reality that, in general, refer to open and dynamic systems. To investigate the approaches in this perspective and to propose its effective incorporation in subject actions, it is fundamental to consider it in the educational process through different dimensions: Educational Dimension, Teaching-Learning, and Epistemological Dimension. Any Dimension incorporates complexity in different contexts of school education and scientific scholar training. In their construction, they seek to organize elements of complexity that can mobilize the subjects for a paradigm shift. We hypothesize that these dimensions contribute to a more complex formation by permeating teaching discourses and actions closer to the subjects' reality. Based on that, this article investigates how complex issues are present in the productions of members of Spanish research groups which incorporate them in the context of Science school education. It is intended to deepen the meaning of these Dimensions and their specificities, when investigating such groups, by non-national approaches. Methodologically, this research is comprised by two moments: (1) identification of starting points of the aspects of complexity in the Educational Dimension in the Teaching-Learning Dimension and the Epistemological Dimension; and (2) identification of these aspects, selecting the productions in journals of some Spanish groups specialized in the subject matter as a material of reference. For data analysis, Discursive Textual Analysis will be considered, assuming the perspective of complexity and the usual strategies in ethnographic studies as parameters. Among the results, there is a significant convergence of perspectives, albeit with nuances. It is emphasized that a change of proposals for scientific education, which seeks to go further than simply understanding and working in a more complex perspective, which is enhanced when complexity is articulated, involving aspects of all dimensions. Therefore, the education for complexity requires that it should be incorporated into a set of actions/attitudes/ reflections; otherwise, the school is only accentuating ways of thinking and acting which may lead to specific and individualized changes.

History of Historiography and Global Perspective: a Possible Dialogue?

Based on the analysis of two studies carried out in the field of history of historiography and global histories of historiography by Georg Iggers, Q. Edward Wang and Daniel Woolf, this article aims to reflect on the scope and rationale of global history, shedding light on possible conceptual obstacles and contradictions of such perspective of investigation, such as the resilience of Eurocentrism, the determinism of national perspectives and the cultural limits imposed by language mastery.

Open educational resources for Physics Education: an extension course for brazilian and colombian undergraduates

This paper aims to present an experience report of the design and implementation of a distance learning course focused on Open Educational Resources (OER) and based on Etienne Wenger's Social Theory of Learning. The main goal was to bring together Brazilian and Colombian undergraduates to start a future Community of Practice around the use of OER in physics education. The course was carried out in 30 hours over the period of twelve weeks with the enrollment of 40 pre-service physics teachers. As main activities, we can highlight the collaborative work involved in the search for classroom problem-situations, faced by physics teachers at high school, that can be tackled using OER, as well the elaboration of the respective plans solve it. All joint activities were carried out in virtual and open- source digital platforms. After the end of the course, some of the participants demonstrated interest in to keep in touch and have been working together to date.

Another Global History? De-Westernizing the History of Historiography and Ancient History

This article brings, firstly, a reflection on the problematization of Global History as a historiographical novelty posed by Jurandir Malerba in his analysis of its impact in the field of History of Historiography. Also on this subject, the article underlines the importance of the critique to eurocentrism and the impulse towards the de-Westernization of recent Global History. The second part of this article is based on a comparison of the impact of Global History on Ancient History, where I address the four critical points presented by Malerba in his final remarks: the advantages of performing a global analysis in historical objects; the narrative and argumentative coherence possible for such objects; the limits of academic expertise in respect to Global History and the premature obsolescence of Global History. The conclusion states the particularities of the de-westernizing critique in the new Global History and the need for Global south historians to articulate their global histories as an alternative to the ones created by global north scholars.

Realism and history

This article argues that the reality principle must be accepted as a necessary condition for any adequate historical research. The first part explores the arguments of the hermeneutical realism, in order to rescue some of them and showing their importance for the historical theory. The second part reconstructs a debate between historical theory, literary theory, linguistic turn and hermeneutical realism, aiming to expose the risks of anti-realism for the historical discipline. At the end, it is expected to present a perspective that points out what is the meaning of rescue realist elements that supports a not arbitrary historical research.

Productive criticism of two versions in spanish of Robert Lowell’s “The Holy Innocents”

This work aims to offer a productive criticism, following the French theorist Antoine Berman, of the translations of the poem "The Holy Innocents" by Robert Lowell into Spanish. Robert Lowell is not only one of the most important poets of the second half of the twentieth century, but has also been rendered into Spanish on several occasions. The two versions were made by translators who were also poets and academics. The comparison between translations was made following the system of analytical translation by Berman. When carrying out the criticism, the hermeneutical analysis of the poem, the position of the translators and the translation project were taken into account —also according to Berman— in order to appreciate the different subjective readings that are presented in each translation.

Translational choices and effects on reading: a study on two translations into spanish of ‘Devaneio e Embriaguez duma Rapariga’ by Clarice Lispector

The following paper presents a critique of two translations into Spanish of “Devaneio e embriaguez duma rapariga”, a short story by the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector that has the peculiarity of being written with characteristics of European Portuguese. The study method is based on Lance Hewson’s categories in An Approach to Translation Criticism that describe translational choices, and their potential effects on reading and interpretation of a literary text. By doing so, Cristina Peri Rossi’s, and Edgardo Russo’s and Mario Cámara’s collaborative translation strategies become clearer and some general considerations about their work can be typified.

An ultrasonic tide gauge based on the Arduino board for a tidal phenomenon investigation

In this work, we present a project to construct a tide gauge based on an ultrasonic rangefinder controlled by an Arduino Uno board. The project is easy to build and of low cost and aims to make feasible the study of the phenomenon of ocean tides, integrating research activities and experimental practice. The tidal phenomenon is an excellent opportunity for the study of Isaac Newton's universal gravitation and the study of the orbital motion of the Earth – Moon – Sun system, of which it is a direct result. In this article, we focus on the experimental set up and preliminary results. We reserve for a next article suggestions of applications in well-defined investigative events involving the Newtonian model for the tidal phenomenon.

Thomas Reid’s objection to Locke’s Theory of personal identity

The paper aims to present two distinct ways of defending John Locke’s theory of personal identity from Thomas Reid’s objection. First, it will be argued that this objection is not effective since it starts from a misunderstanding of Locke’s theory. The identity of a person is not preserved by the psychological continuity of consciousness, as Reid understood it, but by its ontological continuity: the existence of the same consciousness preserves the personal identity. Secondly, it will be argued that it is possible to reply to that objection in the light of the observation that the personal identity is preserved by the identity of the man: person and man are connected by means of the notion of body.

Societal transformations: repercussions on social work

This article discusses the impacts and challenges of social work in the context of societal transformations in moderncapitalism, reflected in all aspects of social life. The analysis is based on bibliographic research through a literature review of the worksby Paulo Netto, Guerra, Iamamoto, and Souza. The study observes that the crisis of capital triggers changes that have demanded broadsocietal transformations, including transformation in professions and, particularly, social work. The profession of social work is part ofa broad process of labor precariousness, involving both training and professional practice. It is a process marked by flexible and unstablecontracts, often without labor and social security rights. The study points out the attacks on social policies based on policycommodification, selectivity, and focalization. Also, it is possible to identify the resumption of conservative theories and practices, which have found fertile ground to be disseminated.

Provenance marks: contributions to the study of the rare book

Objective: To present the results of the research entitled "Context, situation and perspectives of the rare bibliographic collections belonging to the universities of Rio Grande do Sul", which began in the year 2017, especially with regard to marks of provenance. Methods: From a quantitative-qualitative approach, the present research made use of bibliographical revision for the construction of the theoretical contribution. Based on an Internet survey, 19 universities were identified in the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil); of these, 12 have a rare collection and were the study sample. A questionnaire containing 16 semifinished questions was sent to these universities. For this work, three questions were selected, the content of which is related to the theme "marks of provenance".Results: The results evidenced the existence of collections of heterogeneous rare books, whose formation was predominantly by donation and direct negotiation with the owner and/or family members of the same. Regarding the bibliological and cultural aspects of the books, it is observed that those most frequently mentioned by the respondents were "Works that belonged to a prominent personality" and "Works containing dedications or autographs”.Conclusions: In view of the different and possible circumstances presented, it is important to emphasize the importance of studies on the origin of works, both for the knowledge of their history and for the valorization and strengthening of the image of libraries and institutions, as well as for the dissemination of these collections.

From vegetal to digital in Árvore, by Rui Torres

Oppositely to the invisibility plants are usually relegated to in daily and literary discourses, Árvore, an electronic work of generative poetry, devised by Rui Torres (2008), gives prominence to endemic vegetal species from the north of Portugal. By rearranging excerpts from canonic twentieth-century Portuguese poems that talk about plants, this piece of software enacts an intertextual reticular structure to compose new verses where different poems and vegetal species are hybridized, approximating the semantic fields of Botany and writing. To analyze such piece of digital art, this paper addresses the rationale underneath how Árvore works and some of its possible poetic products; we herein adopt as analytical lenses some conceptual metaphors from the sphere of vegetality, such as ecosystem, vegetal memory, rhizome, grafting and plagiotropism. This investigation evidences the complex intertextual weaving inherent to the poetic generation processes of Árvore, which, in turn, posit reading procedures that must be rhizomatic too, somewhere between the botanic and the digital.

Portuguese Legal System solutions for the profit of intervention problem

The problem that involves interventions in the subjective rights, especially the profit of intervention, has been receiving special attention of the brazilian doctrine. Thus, in order to contribute to possible solutions tothe Brazilian legal system, this article aims to portray another legal system, the portuguese legal system, which for almost four decades has been debating the problem, providing a deeper understanding to the issue. Therefore, the deductive method is the research methodology used throughout the article. It is possible toconclude that Portuguese legal scholars have largely stand for the categorization of the profit of intervention within the scope of theunjustified enrichment, but they diverge on the possibility of its restitution, and specific lawson immaterial rights have inserted the profit of intervention as a way for calculating damages.
