From Domingos Jorge Velho to Zumbi dos Palmares: a semantic-enunciative analysis of the process of naming and renaming a street

In this study, we seek to reflect on the semantic-enunciative functioning of the naming process and subsequent renaming of a street in the city of São José do Rio Preto-SP, which was first named Domingos Jorge Velho Street and later Zumbi dos Palmares Street. We verified the name designation processes of the above-mentioned street in order to try to understand the key point of the evenemencial setting: what do the events of naming and renaming choose as memorable to mean a city street? This study is based on the assumption that the meaning of language is located in the study of enunciation, which puts us in the theoretical and methodological perspective of the Semantics of the Event (GUIMARÃES, 2002). We inferred, then, that the different texts mobilized in our analysis mean because of different rememorizing, naming the street sometimes Domingos Jorge Velho sometimes Zumbi dos Palmares as honorable subjects, and able, or not, to mean a city street. Therefore, from our analysis, we verified that the name of the street and its replacement appear as ways to transform something in event, what leads us to understand that, when receiving a name, a street also receives historical concreteness.

Ostensive-inferential processes in excerpts of interpretation of the Maria da Penha Law: a case study

In this paper, we analyze, by means of the Goal Conciliation Theory, by Rauen 2014, and Relevance Theory, by Sperber and Wilson (1986, 1995), ostensive-inferential processes in excerpts of interpretation of Law 11.340, August 7, 2006, of Campos’ (2011) compilation “Lei Maria da Penha comentada em uma perspectiva jurídico-feminista” (Maria da Penha’s Law commented in a legal-feminist perspective). Specifically, we explore Dias and Reinheimer’s chapter “Da violência contra a mulher como uma violação de direitos humanos – artigo 6º” (Violence against women as a human rights violation – Article 6). We argue the authors conciliated the goal of producing a legal and feminist interpretation of the Article 6 of Maria da Penha’s Law extending the scope of the law to lesbians, transvestites, transsexuals and female transgender people, through an ad hoc interpretation of the lexical item ‘woman’ as a genre.

Historical novel in Brazil: a brief overview fictional production

This paper proposes to make a brief overview of the Brazilian historical novel in contemporary times. Starting from the theoretical concepts of Lukacs, added to the notes of other contemporary theorists, we seek to verify the configuration of this literary form from the 90s, the height of this production among us, to the current production (2015). We intend to demonstrate that although the form has undergone a number ofchanges, still remains a strong trend today.

The non-reductive intention as input of the humorous meaning in jokes

In a spontaneous conversation, in which the interlocutors negotiate changeable interpretations, which in their turn dissolve as soon as the statements are pronounced, the intention of the one who conveys information has a great implication on the contextualization of meaning. In a non-spontaneous conversation as a joke, the teller has the autonomy to intentionally manipulate the story in order to produce smaller or greater expectations on the conclusion of it. The aim of this article is to describe the interpretation process of the humoristic meaning implicitly manifest in a joke. The hypothesis is that in a joke the teller’s intention must confirm or refute a piece of knowledge or creed sustained by the hearer in a way that the interpretation of the meaning, once successful, provokes laughter. The theoretical basis for this study follows the relevance-based pragmatic perspective (SPERBER; WILSON, 1986).
