A região onde se situa a cidade de Rio Brilhante, inicialmente, foi colonizada pela família dos “Barbosas”, oriunda de Minas Gerais, que a denominou Campos de Vacaria. A base econômica era a exploração de madeira e a coleta da erva-mate, posteriormente, a pecuária. Estas atividades propiciaram o acúmulo de capital, resultando na construção de edificações, com determinados materiais construtivos e ornamentos, tornando-as expressivas. Objetivou-se com este estudo mostrar a produção arquitetônica na zona rural do município de Rio Brilhante, Mato Grosso do Sul, no período de 1838 a 1950, dentro do seu contexto histórico, através de visitas in loco, registro fotográfico, documentos, livros e relatos de pioneiros. Foram identificadas sete fazendas, com suas residências em madeira e alvenaria, cemitérios, instalações rurais e igrejas. Sua análise ocorreu através de sua volumetria, imagem, materiais construtivos, história e períodos, que reproduzem um ou mais conteúdos simbólicos em suas composições tipológicas, demonstrando suas inspirações estilísticas. Algumas dessas instalações ainda resistem ao tempo, retratando a história e a memória local da população.

El libro Los Ángeles – la arquitectura de cuatro ecologías, del autor Reyner Banham (1922-1988) publicado en 1971 ha sido, desde su primera edición, obyecto de mucha controversia. Algunos lo ven como un texto seminal, con mucha ascendencia sobre los arquitectos que se han dedicado al análisis de otras realidades urbanas desde esa década. Sin embargo, su fortuna crítica también incluye severas críticas académicas, y no rara vez, devastadoras. Las disputas emprendidas en ese momento, sobre el inevitable examen de los dogmas del Movimiento Moderno, están presentes en el libro de forma reflexiva, valiente, y, a veces provocativa. No obstante, después de cuatro décadas, es interesante mirar detenidamente el libro para apreciar sus tesis a partir del desarrollo de las metrópolis contemporáneas, que probablemente serían nombradas por el autor como las metrópolis capitalistas de la cuarta edad de la máquina. El artículo trata también de destacar la fuerza y la legitimidad de la innovación metodológica que el autor ha forjado para articular su tesis y su objeto – el gran Los Ángeles.

This paper aims to analyze, within Le Corbusier’s creative universe, how the notion of right angle assumes different aspects until it become an important concept of his thought on the relationship between building, city and landscape. Starting from the autobiographical book The poem right angle (Le poème de l’angle droit, 1951-55), the paper intends to connect verses and images of this work to passages from Le Corbusier’s writings, conferences and trips drawings between 1911 and 1936, especially addressing his journey for Eastern Europe to Athens and those two trips to South America, where its most fruitful relationship occurred in Rio de Janeiro. By connecting this material with some emblematic works from the Purist period of his painting, such as The fireplace (La chaminée, 1918), it is revealed how the concept in question has an eminently visual dimension. With this panorama, the investigation seeks to present a right angle divided between a totalizing technical and a total freedom of creation, expressing the architect’s unresolved dilemmas.

The present study aims to show how the variations of the characteristics of the internal spaces, associated to the sight, influence the perceptual comfort of the individual. When perceiving an environment, each individual does it in a different way, therefore, it was possible to evaluate how the features of the environment can influence the users’ perception of the space. For this evaluation, an experiment that sought to associate different characteristics of the built environment to the positive and negative affects of the PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule) scale was developed. The experiment consisted of displaying images to the respondents who, observing the design characteristics presented in the images, associated their perception of the environment with the related feelings. The results indicated that the variations in the features of the environment have a strong influence on the individuals’ perception. The characteristics that brought greater comfort and feelings related to positive affections were the higher incidence of natural light, the use of high ceilings and the use of “cold” color. On the other hand, the antagonistic features to those had an effect on the feelings of negative affections in an almost inversely proportional way.

Entre 5 e 23 de setembro de 2016 a Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo sediou o evento Materiais e Criação em Design e Arquitetura: compartilhando experiências para a economia criativa. Este evento foi organizado em parceria entre o LabDesign FAU USP e o Materiali e Design, do Politecnico di Milano, como parte das atividades do projeto Pesquisa em materiais e inovação para aplicação nas indústrias criativas nos campos do design e da arquitetura: a experiência do Politecnico di Milano trazida para o contexto brasileiro. As atividades contaram com a presença da Profa. Dra. Barbara Del Curto, docente e pesquisadora na área de materiais para o design e coordenadora do acervo Materiali e Design, materioteca na mesma instituição em funcionamento desde o ano 2000.

This article analyzes the relationship between the development of real estate market production and public infrastructure. The study deals with the case of the city of Curitiba during the period from 1971 to 1983, a time marked by the accomplishment of large urban remodeling projects, as well as the definition of new and rigid parameters of land use and occupation. In this context, the real estate sector reorganizes and innovates its production, highlighting the improvement of sales techniques, the search for new strategies for the presentation and the diffusion of the projects to the consumers; As well as the creation of cultural values and social “needs” in tune with the market.

Considerando a potencialidade do material construtivo como ferramenta para a historiografia, este artigo consiste em análise de tijolos cerâmicos presentes no sistema construtivo de edificações do Sítio Histórico de Santa Leopoldina, no Estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil, protegido em esfera estadual em 1983. Para além da necessidade de documentação dos sistemas construtivos tradicionais brasileiros e da imprescindibilidade de subsídios técnicos para intervenção no patrimônio edificado, aborda-se a importância da investigação tecnológica para compreensão do processo construtivo da edificação. O critério adotado parte da análise física e mineralógica de um grupo amostral e da interpretação desta análise, admitindo a historicidade da arquitetura como ferramenta de conhecimento da sociedade. Para fundamentação teórica, busca-se o conhecimento da matéria prima do objeto de estudo, bem como os métodos típicos empregados no século XIX, para a produção de tijolos cerâmicos. Metodologicamente, a análise compreende a realização de ensaios laboratoriais para caracterização física e mineralógica dos tijolos, cujos resultados são correlacionados à pesquisa histórica da produção de tijolo cerâmico em Vitória, capital do Estado, entre o século XIX e o início do século XX. O resultado consiste em considerações acerca da fabricação dos tijolos cerâmicos em Santa Leopoldina e contribui para a compreensão dos métodos construtivos utilizados pelos imigrantes europeus não lusitanos que, ao chegarem ao Brasil, a partir da segunda metade do século XIX, colonizam o interior do Espírito Santo.

O artigo reflete sobre a combinação de dois conceitos: patrimônio industrial e paisagem cultural. Dessa maneira, propõe-se a análise de ações de gestão integrada e sustentável do patrimônio industrial, no sentido de unificar as políticas públicas de preservação do patrimônio cultural inerente ao processo de industrialização com as de planejamento urbano e de desenvolvimento sustentável e socioeconômico, por meio da integração das disciplinas e das partes interessadas e da participação da comunidade na tomada de decisão. Além de uma revisão bibliográfica dos conceitos em questão, o artigo analisa dois planos de gestão integrada e sustentável do patrimônio industrial: o Programa de Desenvolvimento Local Sustentável da vila de Paranapiacaba, no Brasil, e o programa do Internationale Bauausstellung Emscher Park, na região do Vale do Ruhr, na Alemanha.

The article deals with a fragment of the master's research developed on the relation between the daily acts of a “make city”, understood here as the established relation between body and space, actions that build of ephemeral form the relationship with urban space. Based on the concept of corpography and the situationalist investigations of the 1960s, the research cartography the possibility of urbgrafias, of body writings in the various spatial qualities: from the physical space to the space of the urban experience. Within these possible writings, I treat art initially as a possibility of agency, a materialized form of making city within the intentions proposed here. For this, the need to understand the process of production of urban space and practical actions that transfigure the ideas discussed are treated here in an initial way.

Initiatives are being promoted to implement the New Urban Agenda in several cities around the world. This occurs about a year after the New Agenda was adopted in Habitat III. Accelerated urbanization and the aspiration to achieve a sustainable development are the common axes that coincide with Mexico, although our cities continue to grow well beyond any forecasting strategy. The Urban Development Plans in our country follow the same precepts as their predecessors, whose bases correspond to the Modern Style of the seventies, promoted by Habitat I. Perhaps, one of the most significant cases is the State of Mexico, located in the center of the country. Thus, the objective of this paper is to discuss the need of Urban Planning in the State of Mexico and to provide evidences of a necessary reform, based on the commitments of the New Urban Agenda. Our case study is the city of Toluca, the 5th metropolitan area of Mexico. The period analyzed begins in 1985, with the first Urban Development Plan and it ends with the current Plan of 2014.

The presence of collaborators in engineering and architecture offices is an insufficiently researched subject, most of which remain unknown even in specialized publications. This paper analyzes the participation of some professionals in Samuel das Neves Technical Office (Escritório Técnico Samuel das Neves) during the first two decades of the 20th century, especially about works related to the State Penitentiary Competition (Concurso da Penitenciária do Estado) and to São Paulo’s Master Plan (Plano Melhoramentos). Most of them were foreigners with extensive professional knowledge and who worked at the São Paulo headquarters of the company in its best known and commented period: Carlos Escobar, Giulio Micheli, Giuseppe Sacchetti, A. Maurice de Ladrière, José Talarico, and Giácomo Corberi.

Como desdobramento da pesquisa realizada para obtenção do título de mestre por um dos autores, ambos os autores discorrem nesse artigo sobre os principais eventos econômicos e marcos regulatórios que ocorreram nas últimas décadas no Brasil e em São Paulo e o desenvolvimento do mercado imobiliário face a esses acontecimentos.A partir da criação do Banco Nacional da Habitação, na década de 1960, até o recente êxito produtivo do Programa Minha Casa, Minha Vida; considerando, nesse ínterim, eventos econômicos nacionais e políticas federais e municipais (na cidade de São Paulo), esses acontecimentos são sintetizados em ordem cronológica, com o intuito de ressaltar a importância da economia sobre a produção urbana residencial, particularmente a realizada pela iniciativa privada.

The present work aims to contribute to broaden the discussion about issues that involve the aspects related to environmental comfort in the built environment and its derivations, understanding the environment as place of participatory actions by its users. This study addresses the notion of comfort seen under two main aspects: initially, the most common, under a more pragmatic and technical content, from the basis of generating norms, and standards, then, under a prism rarely associated with the field of comfort, a more subjective, naturally embodied by users, and finally emphasizing the work of the contemporary architect Peter Zumthor. The study sequences its development studying the main normative sources such as the Technical Standards and Quality applied to the built environment, and discusses the thought of several contemporary professionals dedicated to the questions here listed. Finishing with an approach on the thought of Peter Zumthor, the study exposes, contributing to the discussion of the theme, the dichotomies that still exist on the approaches and opens the way for future research.

The main purpose of this article is to present and discuss intervention methodologies, focusing on structural and constructive  work undertaken on old buildings of common architecture that are considered to be of cultural interest. Lying at the origin of this paper is the understanding that many of the interventions currently being made on such buildings are typically façadist in nature, frequently involving the complete reconstruction of the buildings themselves and showing a total disregard for the cultural values that their actual materials and traditional construction techniques confer upon them. A brief review will first be made of the main recommendations currently proposed for the conservation and rehabilitation of old buildings, while a general intervention methodology will also be established. In this way, an attempt will be made to discuss the various approaches and procedures that are commonly adopted in practice, in keeping with the nature of the different buildings that are subject to intervention, the aim being to present a summary of some recent studies that have recognised the need for a specific approach to the group of old buildings of common architecture that display a significant cultural value. 

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar um estudo sobre como o uso de cores em ambientes arquitetônicos externos e internos de um hotel brasileiro afetou o comportamento do consumidor. Os resultados são analisados em termos do Modelo SENS|ORG|INT, que diferencia aspectos fisiológicos da resposta humana a cores, de fatores culturais e interpretativos (CSILLAG, 2008). O estudo foi conduzido no Ceta Ecotel, um hotel ecológico na cidade de Macapá no nordeste do Brasil. A metodologia foi de estudo de caso (YIN, 2004), usando um processo de triangulação, cruzando informações obtidas de três pontos de vista: um questionário qualitativo e quantitativo com 50 funcionários do hotel, incluindo os proprietários, um questionário qualitativo e quantitativo com 640 hóspedes do hotel e análise dos dados obtidos usando o Modelo de Percepção SENS|ORG|INT. Os resultados indicam motivos para as cores mais e menos preferidas, apresentando sugestões para uso futuro de cores em projetos arquitetônicos.
