Levantamento da fauna entomológica no estado do Paraná: II. Ctenuchidae (Lepidoptera)
In addition to the Survey of the Entomological Fauna in Paraná State, the Ctenuchidae were studied in its ecological and faunistic aspects. The material was collected using one light trap installed in eight different sites of the State: Antonina, São José dos Pinhais, Colombo, Ponta Grossa, Telêmaco Borba, Jundiaí do Sul, Guarapuava and Fênix, from October 1986 to September 1987. The total number of specimens and means values of capture were analyzed. Indices of diversity and evenness were used to discuss richness and dominance of species in each locality. Besides using ecological indices, the data were also compared by Clustering Analysis, Principal Coordinate Analysis and Linear Correlation Coefficient. The results were compared with meteorological and floristic conditions in the eight localities. Faunistic data gathered in these sites were compared.

Efectos del parasitismo sobre el tejido branquial en peces cultivados: estudio parasitologico e histopatologico
One hundred four out of 225 diagnosticated cases were myxosporidian, monogenean, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis Fouquet, 1876 and bacterial diseases in Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg, 1887 (pacu), Colossoma macropomum Cuvier, 1818 (tambaqui) and tambacu, at Aquaculture Center, Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Jaboticabal, São Paulo, Brazil, between 1992 and 1995. The gills were fixed in 10% buffered formalin solution to posterior histologic routine. It was observed Henneguya sp. cysts into the capillaries of the secondary lamellae, encapsulated by the respiratory epithelium cells. It provoked adherence of the adjacent lamellae, hyperplasia, congestion, oedema and epithelium displacement. Monogeneans infestations by Anacanthorus penilabiatus Boeger, Husak & Martins, 1995 and Ancyrocephalinae sub-family caused light inflammatory reaction and hyperplasia. In severe infestations was observed hyperplasia of primary lamellae, necrosis, oedema, respiratory epithelium displacement, ruptured pillar cells and telangiectasis. Response to I. multifiliis was limited to surrounding epithelial cells in young fishes and hyperplasia, necrosis, inflammatory infiltrate and oedema in old fishes. Such lesions iniciate hyperplasic and oedematous process that with inflammation of the parasitic sites, provoked alterations over gases and ions interchange surface and consequently fish metabolism.

Atividade alimentar de espécies de peixe do rio Tibagi, relacionada com o desenvolvimento de gordura e das gônadas
The fish assemblage in a stretch of Tibagi river was studied during the period of one year, throught monthly sampling. It was observed that four fish species (Schizodon intermedius Garavello & Britski, 1990, Acestrorhynchus lacustris Reinhardt, 1874, Pimelodus maculatus Lacépède, 1803 and Steindachnerina insculpta Fernandez-Yepez, 1948) were very frequent and they represent all the main trophic groups. In order to characterize feeding activity, fat storage and reproduction the means degree of repletion, fat and maturation, obtained for each species in each month were compared among the four fish species. Steindachnerina insculpta, a detritivovous species was the one with the highest feeding activity while A. lacustris, a piscivorous fish, showed the lowest feeding activity. For these two species it was clearly observed a sequence of events: higher feeding activity followed by higher fat storage followed by reproduction, that was not observed for P. maculatus and S. intermedius. The variations in feeding activity and fat storage showed by P. maculatus and S. intermedius might be related to their diets.

Lista comentada e ilustrada dos Caecidae (Mollusca, Prosobranchia, Mesogastropoda) da Operação Oceanográfica Geomar XII
The family Caecidae deserved special attention, among mollusks, because they occurred in more than 50% of studied stations in Oceanographic Operation Geomar XII, which was carried out in northern and southern coasts of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo States (Brazil), respectively. At the time, Caecum brasilicum Folin, 1874, C. aff condylum Moore, 1969, C. circumvolutum Folin, 1867, C. johnsoni Winkley, 1908, C. someri Folin, 1867, C. striatum Folin, 1868, C. venosum Folin, 1867, C. floridanum Stimpson, 1851, C. massambabensis Absalão, 1994, C. butoti Jong & Coomans, 1989, C. ryssotitum Folin, 1867, C. nitidum (Stimpson., 1851) e C. cubitatum (Folin, 1868) were identitíed. C. venosum is reported, for the first time, since its original description, enlarging its occurrence area from Pernambuco to Rio de Janeiro; C. buloti as well, primarily restricted to Dutch Antilles, begins to make part of the Brazilian malacofauna. C. someri and C. butoti were pointed out for being largely non-sintopic with other congeneric species, suggesting that subtile differences in sediment can be responsable for this segregation.

The species of Hippolyte Leach (Crustacea, Caridea, Hippolytidae) from Terminos Lagoon, southwestern Gulf of Mexico
The taxonomic identity of specimens of the genus Hippolyte Leach, 1814 of Laguna de Términos was considered including the colour and the presence-absence of tufts of plumose setae on the dorsal surface of the carapace and abdomen as secondary characteristics to morphological features of taxonomic value. Two groups were formed based on appearance: one transparent with setae and another green without setae. The analysis of five morphological characteristics in adult females of the two groups made it possible to identify only H. zostericola (Smith, 1873). Fecundity and fertility were similar (0.5>p>0.2) in both groups. The first zoea of both groups were also morphologically similar. Considering these results, it is concluded that the only species collected was H. zoslericola and that it has two phenotypical types. It is recomended that the morphological analysis of all larval stages be carried out.

Calliphoridae (Diptera) da bacia do alto rio Urucu, Amazônia Central, Brasil
Calliphoridae of the region of the upper Urucu river basin, West of the city of Manaus, Amazonas State, Brazil, were sludied considering composition and abundance of the species, capturing 14729 specimen distributcd as follows: Cochliomyia macellaria (Fabricius) (12643), Chloroprocta idioidea (Robineau-Desvoidy) (1667), Phaenicia eximia (Wiedemann) (354), Hemilucilia semidiaphana (Rondani) (54), H. segmentaria (Fabricius) (6), Chrysomya pularia (Wiedemann) (1) e C. albiceps (Wiedemann) (1). The rcsults showthat Cochliomyia macellaria has a facility to adapt rapidly to an environment changed by man. The fact that was registered two specimen of Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy in highly isolated localilies contributed to showthc ability of thesc flics in cxploring the availablc mechanisms to reach remote places, re-einphasizing the concept of high capacily of expansion ofthis species. The possibilities of colonization ofthis área by pioneer species of Chrysomya was discus-sed, considering the local environmental conditions. The importance of studies of endemic calliphorids (lies in áreas withoul prescnce of pioncers, in order to better understand the mechanisms of adaptation used by these species were striked.

Haematological characteristics of freshwater-reared and wild mullet, Mugil platanus Günther (Osteichthyes, Mugilidae)
Mullets, Mugilplalanus Günther, 1880. were obtained from the estua-rine area of CananÉia (São Paulo, Brazil) and from freshwater tearing tanks. For each fish the body weight, body length, gonad weight and gonad maturation stage were recorded and the allometric index (K) was calculated. Blood was collected for hematocrit (Ht), hemoglobin level (lib), total cell count (Er), and the determination of hematological indices (MCV. MCH, MCHC), as well as the differential leukocyte count (lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils and '"other cells"). The averages of the hematological analyses, hematological indeces, condition factor and leukocytes percentage of the specimens acclimated to fresh water were significantly higher than those of the specimens from the estuary.

With then purpose of knowing the species of mosquitos that colonize an anthropogenic area in the North of Paraná, Brazil. 1496 specimens were captured by the humam bait method, accountig 23 species among them the following were predominam: Anopheles strodei Root, 1926; An. evansae Brethes, 1926; An. galvaoi Causey, Deane & Deane, 1943; An. albitarsis Lynch Arribalzaga, 1878; Coquillettidea juxtamansonia Chagas, 1907; Co. venezuelensis Theobaldi, 1912; Culex (Melanoconion) sp. e Aedes fluviatilis (Lutz, 1904) and showed shong anthopophilia and a high degree of adaptation to humam environment. On the cantray, the species that showed lilth adaptation to such ambients or to the geoclimatic conditions of the region were: Anopheles triannulatus (Neiva & Pinto, 1922); An. parvus (Chagas, 1907); An. lutzii Cruzi, 1901, Culex amazonensis (Lutz, 1905); Cx. chidesteri; Psorophora confinnis (Linch Arribalzaga, 1891); Ps. discrucians (Walker, 1856); Ps. cingulata (Fabricius, 1805) e Aedes scapularis. Although Anopheles argyritarsis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1827; Culex coronator Dyar & Knab, 1906; Cx. mollis Dyar & Knab, 1906 and Cx. quinquefasciatus Say, 1823, were captured in little numbers, it is knowntht they an mosquito of human surroundings. These mosquitos showed a plak of feeding activity directly related to sunset bat did not have a bimodal behaviour. Anophelinae were in general more active in spring while Culex Linnaeus, 1758; Coquillettidia Dyar, 1905; Aedes Meigen, 1818; Mansonia Blanchard, 1901 e Psorophora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1827 were more active in summer.

Crescimento e reprodução de Hyale media Dana (Amphipoda, Gammaridae, Hyalidae) associada à Sargassum cymosum C. Agardh
The post-marsupial growth, sexual differentiation, fecundity and reproductive biology of Hyale media Dana, 1853 living on Sargassum cymosum C. Agardh, 1820 are described. The growth was continuous througth 12 stages for males and 9 for females. The sexual differentiation occours at 2th or 3th moult and was demonstrated by the enlargment of the gnatopod II propod. Number of eggs increased with the female head length. Observations of courtship behavior, incubation, moult processes, emergence of juveniles and brood caracteristics were made. The precopula courtship continued for two days, the eggs were incubated for six days and the juveniles, that stay until three days in the marsupium, moult every day.

Caracterização dos tipos celulares presentes na hemolinfa de larvas e ninfas de Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille) (Ixodoidea, Ixodidae) em diferentes estados nutricionais
With the purpose of characterize morphologically the hemocytes of larvae and nymphs of Rhipicephalus sanguineus on different nutritional phases, it was obtained samples of haemolymph were obtained by sectioning the forelegs and collecting the drop there formed. After dried, the samples were fixed by methanol and stained by Giemsa. Microscopical observation resulted in the characterization of five basic cellular types: prohemocytes, plasmatocytes, granulocytes, spherulocytes and oenocytoids. Moreover, undefined cell types, whose morphological patterns didn't have correlation with the characteristics cited for hemocytes, were found in low frequency. The change in the relative composition of the haemolimph was characterized by decrease of the number of granulocytes and greater variabilily of the cell types present in the hemolymph as the tick evolved. This fact may be linked to the alterations that these cells suffer along the development of the tick.
