A mudança em Portugal, nos romances de Lídia Jorge : esboço de interpretação sociológica de uma interpretação literária

Um dos eixos temáticos da obra literária de Lídia Jorge é a profunda mudança social vivida, entre os anos 1950 e 2000, quer pelo Algarve, quer pelo conjunto do país. Os 10 romances que a escritora publicou (de 1980 a 2010) constituem uma poderosa e criativa interpretação dessa mudança – que, a meu ver, a sociologia interessada também na sua análise não pode ignorar. O artigo é um exercício, com um fim demonstrativo. Quer mostrar a pertinência e a utilidade do diálogo entre a interpretação sociológica e a interpretação literária das dinâmicas sociais, procurando concretizá-lo na abordagem da criação de Lídia Jorge.

Images de la femme-auteur dans les paratextes des OEuvres Narratives Feminines Portugaises

Paratexts are presentation means for works, authors and genders. They format readers perception about literary texts, taking into consideration the author, the intended public and the work’s merit. Taking as starting point the paratexts that precede the Portuguese feminine narratives published in Portugal from 1555 to late XVIII th century, this paper aims to provide a framework of the feminine editorial visibility and of women’s writer’s image, considering the articulation between gender, production origin and literary function.

Contribución de las lenguas extranjeras al desarrollo de actitudes de tolerancia y respeto hacia el "otro"

The purpose of this article is to analyze the present state of Foreign Languages in Spain for Compulsory Secondary Education, putting the emphasis on the way in which it approaches the cultural component and the intercultural dimension. The text starts from the premise to consider the curriculum as a complex field in which diverse agents and spheres of social life converge, and that before its materialization in the reality of the classroom it is crossed by diverse phases of development. The analysis that we carried out corresponds to the curriculum prepared by the Administration which is the prescribed curriculum. In addition, it is argued that the foreign languages that are chosen to be included in the education system of a particular country are conditioned by an outer context, the relationship that maintains the countries in the international sphere. That outer context - in our case is the process of European construction and the globalización of the economic interchanges on world-wide scale which are exerting a decisive influence in the theoretical and methodological approaches adopted in the teaching of foreign languages, orienting one towards an intercultural and plurilingual dimension. It is important in this study to talk about the goal pursued by the European Union, that defends the importance of learning foreign languages and considers the linguistic wealth of Europe like a rich patrimony that must be preserved. Equally important is the reference to the way in which the intercultural approach appears within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching and evaluation (Cervantes Institute 2002), which is a kind of guide that indicates the directives and the directions to follow for the teaching and learning of languages in Europe, incorporating the more recent theoretical developments of the Didactics of the matter, developments that call for a more integrated teaching of language and culture. Assuming that the learning of foreign languages has a very important formative component that goes beyond the simple acquisition of a linguistic competence, an analysis of the official text centered in the sociocultural aspects and the intercultural conscience takes place. This analysis puts the accent on those fragments related to the development of tolerant attitudes and respect towards the “other”. The article concludes with brief notes directed to the teaching staff for the development of that intercultural dimension.

Emprego e Trajetórias Profissionais : o caso dos diplomados do Instituto Superior Politécnico de Viseu

A dificuldade crescente dos jovens diplomados do ensino superior em aceder ao emprego é um reflexo da evolução da oferta de mão de obra qualificada, consequência da expansão do ensino superior e da  mutabilidade das características do mercado de trabalho. O investimento em educação e a obtenção de diplomas de ensino superior representam assim, cada vez mais, uma postura de risco, não garantindo a priori o acesso ao emprego. Esta questão não pode ser somente colocada ao nível do acesso ao emprego, mas também ao nível do aumento efetivo da precariedade laboral, sobretudo visível numa desclassificação progressiva dos jovens diplomados, particularmente no exercício do primeiro emprego. Este artigo, que se enquadra na análise do processo de transição para o trabalho dos diplomados 2005/06 do Instituto Superior Politécnico de Viseu, apresenta as trajetórias profissionais destes, 18 meses após a obtenção do diploma académico. Paralelamente o enquadramento geográfico desta instituição de ensino superior, tendo presente a realidade nacional, apresenta‑se como uma oportunidade de verificar o seu papel no processo de desenvolvimento local, através da capacidade de atração e fixação de mão de obra jovem qualificada, a nível regional.

A Guerra Fria e a dissolução dos conceitos público-privado em The Bell Jar e poesia selecionada de Sylvia Plath

This paper intends to analyze The Bell Jar and a selection of Sylvia Plath’s poetry focusing on the dissolution of the boundaries between the public and the private spheres during the Cold War, due to a new anticommunist containment ideology. In order to do so, I will resort to an analysis of naturally oppressive spaces that expose that dissolution, while also examining some characters. Ultimately, I aim to evince how Plath subverts national conformity and how in The Bell Jar international politics and individual trauma have similar trajectories.

Letras e Gestos : Programas de Educação Feminina em Portugal nos séculos XVIII-XIX

This paper transcribes two pedagogical regulations for female education, one from the Visitandinas Congregation, certainly written by Teodoro de Almeida [1722-1804], although reproducing French models, and the other one from the Ursulinas Congregation of Braga, likely «taken» from Paris, as happened with the regulations of the religious, which precede the disciples of the volume of the District Archives of Braga. Following the dissemination of these models of education, the authors study in their respective introductions, the organization, structure, and guidelines of a daily teaching procedure that became the basis of long term female education paradigms oriented to different social classes.

Centros históricos e turismo patrimonial : o pelourinho como exemplo de uma relação contraditória

A relação entre turismo, património e desenvolvimento territorial é central no domínio da planeamento urbano contemporâneo. Analisando o caso de Salvador da Bahia e, em particular, do Pelourinho, a partir do Plano de Ação Integrada do Centro Histórico de Salvador, discutem se e registam-se dimensões contraditórias dessa relação. Em particular, a análise centra-se no confronto entre uma estratégia orientada para o turismo e para consumidores externos e uma estratégia que coloca a cidade e o seu património ao serviço dos seus residentes.

Modalização e construção do humor nas crónicas de Ricardo Araújo Pereira

This study focused on the analysis of a set of satirical chronicles of Ricardo Araújo Pereira, published between December 2011 and March 2013, in the newsmagazine Visão, in order to isolate a set of enunciative-pragmatic recurrences in the author’s discourse. Amongst the isolated recurrences we selected for this paper the most closely related to the topic ‘modality andthe genres’ such as the markers of epistemic, deontic and appreciative modality, used to construct the ironic tone pervasive throughout his speech. Other recurrences such as intertextuality and interdiscursivity and the invocation of other ‘voices’ are either directed to the validation of his own discourse, or to the disqualification of the discourse of the other, in compliance with the pragmatic dimension of social satire of his chronicles. Similarly, the marks of an oral informal register contribute to a dialogical and expressive writing style. The nonsenses, either resulting from the syntagmatic combination of paradigmatic distant expressions in terms of language registers, or from the syntactic combination of semantic-pragmatic incompatible realities, contribute, together with the rest of the markers, to the writing style of Ricardo Araújo Pereira’s humorous articles.

Estudo dos valores modais no discurso jornalístico do início do século XIX

The aim of this paper is to present the study of linguistic modality and the mediativein the periodics Gazeta de Lisboa (1808-1820) and Correio Braziliense (1808-1822). By studying the linguistic modalization strategies of that journalistic discourse, the investigation revealed that the news were constructed by linguistic inference mechanisms and sources were derived, mainly, from other European journals, letters of personal relationships, gossip, rumors and “hearsay”.
