(Im) possibilities of regulation in the work of professionals from the Center of Sterilized Material (CSM)

Based on an in-depth analysis of the current labor relations situation and its consequences for the actors involved, this article, through ergonomics and ergology, sought to give visibility to the work carried out in a Center for Sterile Materials (CME) in a hospital, and the strategies built there and necessary for work management. It was tried to demonstrate the diverse activities inherent in the work practice, as well as the variabilities present in this context, as well as the various strategies of work regulation, aiming at two main objectives: 1) maintaining one's own health and 2) job. It was evidenced that there is insufficient materials and equipment and that this has a direct impact on daily care, the workload of workers in the sector and other sectors in interface with the CME. However, it can also be demonstrated that strategies were constructed and shared, modulated by the individual / collective competence analyzed and that proved to be of fundamental importance for productivity and risk management in the analyzed context.

Academic advising: a view over an activity: a view over an activity

In the University, the activity of academic advising, established between advisors and advisees, can assume several configurations in its development. The objectives of the present study were to analyze the formative activity of academic advising, the verbal interactions between the participants, the meanings they express and the forms of knowledge building resulting from this relation. To this purpose, we carried out a case study with a dyad of advisor and Mastering advisee in a Federal Public University, from which we analyze the utterances/speeches given by the subjects in the activity (real work), based on the Philosophy of language (BAJTIN, 1997a) and in the Dialogical Theory of Language/Dialogical Discourse Analysis (BAKHTIN, 1997b) and in the theoretical assumptions of Ergology (SCHWARTZ, 1998, 2000, 2007, 2010, 2015). The analyses suggest that the activity of academic advising led the subjects to deal with institutional and personal issues, through the norms that regulate their functions. It was observed the emergence of two institutional values in the activity: the commitment to the researcher's formation and the academic productivity. Among the personal values, we identified the search for autonomy by the advisee and the value of care by the advisor; as a pair, both demonstrated the value of collaboration and shared responsibility. We consider that the outstanding values represent the experience of an academic ethics that aims at consolidating responsibility in the building of knowledge and responsibility with the other.

Charlottesville and the marching neo-Nazism in the United States

This paper aims to examine the presence of neo-Nazism in the United States, starting with the Unite the Right rally in the city of Charlottesville, Virginia, in August 2017, where dozens of neo-Nazis openly advocated hate speech against their declared enemies, like the black people and immigrants. We will see how this event have deeper roots in American society, examining it through a present time history perspective. This analysis will be performed using records made by American bands linked to the so-called neo-fascist rock in their songs. In view of such records, we will seek to understand some particularities of American neo-Nazism and where its national roots lie by examining song lyrics from Angry Aryans, Bound for Glory, Bully Boys, End Apathy, Heathen Hammer and The Voice. Thus, we will see how the episode in Charlottesville goes beyond its immediate causes and its recent developments.

CONCEPTIONS AND SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF TEACHERS ABOUT THEIR INITIAL TRAINING: CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION OF A QUESTIONNAIRE: CONCEPTIONS AND SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF TEACHERS ABOUT THEIR INITIAL TRAINING: CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION OF A QUESTIONNAIRE

The present study concerns the validation of a questionnaire applied to first and last year undergraduate students in Biology, Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Pedagogy, being selected two different institutions for each course. The research instrument went through the semantic validation, carried out by six PhD researchers in the areas of Teaching (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) and also through a pilot test with Biology students. After the semantic analysis and the pilot test, three questions were deleted so that the final questionnaire became composed of 81 questions. To evaluate the reliability of the instrument (statistical validation) the Cronbach Alpha test, factorial analysis, Kaiser-Meyer-Olklin (KMO) and Bartlett's Sphericity were carried out. After the application of these tests, 30 assertions were eliminated, making the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) possible. The sample number was considered satisfactory for the systematization and analysis of the data, when the KMO value was analyzed.

Work and spirituality: ergological contributions to the understanding of spirituality in work processes

In this article our aim is to make an approximate approach between ergologic concepts and spirituality in the work processes. Historically, spirituality is seen as something unnecessary, inappropriate and even inappropriate to organizational contexts, although, through ergologic concepts, it is sought to refute this negative / distorted image of spirituality inserted in work processes. Methodologically the option is to make a bibliographical review about the productions related to the question of spirituality as an element to be considered in the various relationships existing in the work processes and to approach ergological concepts, dialoguing between the themes, especially to broaden the discussions related to ergology, work and spirituality. It is believed that the ergologic concepts can contribute to the perception of spirituality as something inseparable from the human being and therefore, present explicitly or implicitly in the work.

A conservative view on plagiarism? Reflections from a survey on the perspective of a population of Brazilian high school students: A conservative view on plagiarism?

This study offers a perspective on plagiarism in science education at school. Research participants are students enrolled in a Brazilian federal institution, and results are presented in dialogue with previous research, with science teachers, in the same institution. We conducted a survey in 2016 with a population of 427 students in the 3rd grade of high school, 29.6% of the total of students at this same grade in all campuses of the institution. Of the total of 427 participants, 98.1% responded and allowed us to give some insight into their perceptions and attitudes about plagiarism at school. For this population surveyed, results indicate that plagiarism is viewed perhaps in a more conventional way than would be expected for high school students. In addition to offering a perspective on the problem in science education, this research is a provocative reminder of the urgency of investigations into plagiarism practices in basic education.   Keywords: plagiarism; science education; basic education.

Sanitary campaigns are essentially multimodal and their printed can be used in mediation of the teaching and learning. Thus, we aim to analyze the construction of sense about a printed for of combat to Zika virus by Licentiates in Biological Sciences after training on the Visual Design Grammar (GDV). The research was divided: I) analysis of the printed; II) questionnaire, answered by two Working Groups (WG), about the printed; III) course on GDV and Multimodality; IV) analysis and proposed changes to the printed by WG. Analyzing the printed it became evident need to reflect on the use of such material in Science Education. The WG responses to the questionnaire reinforced the importance of train the teachers multimodal. After the formation, the GT showed difficulty in understanding the functions of the GDV as present in any multimodal text, besides the proposals of alteration showed that the process of construction of direction was positively impacted by the GDV.

The curricular guidelines for professional education in the government of Dilma: dual employee training?

This paper analyzes the National Curricular Guidelines for Technical Professional Education at the Secondary Level (CNE/CEB Opinion n. 11/2012 and CNE / CEB Resolution n. 06/2012), which were enacted in Dilma Rousseff ‘s Government. The purpose is to identify the central axes of the pedagogical proposal and the curricular organization. A documentary analysis of curricular policies related to professional education was carried out, such as the National Curricular Guidelines for Higher Technical Vocational Education; the basic document of technical secondary education integrated to secondary education, which presents the theoretical foundations, conceptions and principles in the proposal of technical vocational education of intermediate level integrated to secondary education. It was identified that the guidelines present a dual vocational training project, that is, in two distinct perspectives: one approaching an expanded conception of worker training, which opens the possibility of thinking of overcoming the historical duality existing between technical training and general training, and the second, which points to a restricted training of the worker, which perpetuates the duality between technical training and general training.

What does Cinderela and Beauty and the Beast got to do with Geography?

The use of books for educational purposes in Geography classes helps to promote interdisciplinarity, while also allowing the stimulation of critical sense and the amplification of knowledge. In this sense, in the discipline of Methodology of Geography Teaching, in the Licentiate course in Geography, the work with literary works was introduced, specially children stories, being these read and thought in the perspective of the work with contents referring to the 2nd year of High School. The purpose of the activity was to provide the licentiates with bases to promote the integration between Literature and Geography. The development of the activity showed, among other results, that most of them didn’t think of using children's stories in Geography classes and that, after performing the activity, they would adopt this practice in their classes.

Concepts, proceduralities, and learning in the game Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall

The article analyses aspects related to historical concepts, production of meaning through ‘mechanics’, appropriation by the players, and representations about the history of Brazil contained in the electronic game Sid Meier's Civilization VI: rise and fall. The research was based, firstly, on the list of historical concepts related to situations of war, considering their articulation in meaning production by rules or procedures (‘proceduralities’), considering discussions about the ‘history of concepts’ and historical learning. In addition, we have investigated some virtual spaces that players use as a space of socialization, producing questionnaires regarding significant aspects of our research. Finally, we have analysed the representations about the history of Brazil contained in the game considering the historiography on the history of Brazil. From this, it was possible to understand how the idea of war in the game is linked to a conception of historical progress marked by an ideology produced by the nineteenth-century European bourgeoisie, and today deeply criticized by the latest developments in the theory of history. We have also been able to demonstrate to what extent these historical conceptions are related to the production of a reductionist image of Brazilian history. Finally, it was possible to notice some concrete trends of historical learning outside the school space from the interviews that we have conducted.

Permanency and school dropout in professional education: reflecting on some of their motivators

It is presented the results of research that aimed to analyze, from the point of view of students and ex-students of concomitant and subsequent technical courses in industrial area, the motivations and reasons that justify its permanence or abandonment to their courses. Based on the conception of the work as a central category and educational principle, established, also, dialogue with others authors from different strands and theoretical conceptions aiming at deepening on the theoretical and ideological conflicts that permeate discussions on the school permanency or dropout. From a qualitative exploratory approach, the research involved workers students of a federal institution with campi in Joinville and Jaraguá do Sul, in Santa Catarina. The results signaled there is a complex and contradictory relationship between the motivators of abandonment and permanence, sometimes appearing as motivators to stay and other times as drivers of abandonment, emphasizing relationships established between teachers and students and between work, study and family. It also pointed out that the current policies of support for permanence are not recognized by the students, nor identified as essential for their permanence in school.

Perception of Dental students regarding Periodontology education environment after curricular changes

The perception of Periodontology learning environment was measured before and after curricular restructuring by the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM). Undergraduate students (2nd, 3rd, 4th years; n = 266) were divided into two main groups: former curriculum (n = 131) and current one (n = 131). Total DREEM score, its five dimensions, Periodontology grades and their weighted average were compared. Student’s t test and ANOVA were used for analysis (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the second (teachers) and fifth (social relations) dimensions and between Periodontology grades and the weighted average in both curricula. For each year, higher scores in the second dimension, Periodontology grades and the weighted average were obtained for current curriculum. Both curricula presented a significant correlation between Periodontology grades and their weighted average. Total DREEM scores for 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of current curriculum presented no differences (p > 0.05). The implementation of a new curriculum had an important impact on the students’ positive perceptions, which reflected in their academic performance
