Gamification under services: scoping review

Gamification, an innovative technological approach, has been increasingly used as a way to motivate the adoption of beneficial behaviors in users. The area of knowledge related to gamification applied to the context of services may translate into diverse benefits - personal, social, organizational, among others - and, as such, it is necessary to systematically and rigorously map the scientific production underlying this theme. As for the method, this article was based on a scoping review approach, analyzing the data through two applications - VOSViewer and Citespace - and starting from metrics made available by the Web of Science. Based on this, a bibliometric analysis encompassing several parameters was performed. It was concluded that scientific research on gamification and services is still at a very early stage of development. The analysis provided indicators that suggest that gamification is on a growth and expansion trajectory with respect to its application in services, with particular emphasis on health and education services. Finland seems to be the country that stands out most in terms of scientific production in this area.

Conflict management in organizations: conceptualization and gender differences

The way that the conflict has been considered has undergone significant changes with implications for the organizations, which become real arenas for their constitution. In one hand, there is the traditional view, where conflict was synonymous of violence, destruction and irrationality, and, on the other hand, the emergent perspective, where conflict is a synonymous of productivity, fostering creativity and innovation. Communication emerges as a cause and as a solution at the same time, and strategies adjusted to the nature and situation of conflict should be instigated, based on cooperation between the different, naturally distinct parties. Based on a literature review, our objective was to reflect about the "state of the art" in the context of conflict management in organizations, with emphasis on gender differences. The results did not show a style strictly associated with the masculine or feminine gender; however, it is recognized that the use of negotiation strategies and less confrontation by women, as opposed to men. There is little empirical research in Portugal in this domain, and this study may contribute to its progress, by establishing the theoretical bases that support it.

Cultural adaptation, validity and reliability of scale of children and youth personal results

The present research presents the results of an initial study that aims to analyze the cross-cultural adaptation of the Personal Outcomes Scale-Children and Adolescents (POS-C), as well as to examine its validity and reliability. This scale assesses the Quality of Life (QOL) of children and adolescents with Intellectual Disability (ID). Of the several samples involved in the research, it is stressed that the final sample included 54 children and adolescents with ID and 54 education support staff. The research started with the application of the cross-cultural adaptation’ guidelines. The results of the Content Validity Index (CVI) of each item, the scale CVI-universal agreement, the scale CVI average and the Cohen’s kappa scores supported the content validity, and the Pearson’s correlations confirmed the construct validity of the POS-C. The test-retest, the internal consistency and the inter-rater reliability supported the reliability of the tool. The different psychometric coefficients demonstrate that this scale may be advantageous to assess the QOL of children and adolescents with ID, as well as to design the intervention programs of those students in inclusive contexts of learning.

Family: yesterday as today, permanent educator

The family, as the first instance of formation and socialization of the child, who remains as a lifelong permanent educator, seems to continue not to attract the interest that would be desirable on the part of the investigators, reason why it continues being perceived a little like a "black box", that is, whose operation is registered in its students but hidden in public terms. In this text the family institution is approached in terms of conceptualization, functions and successive structural re-creations, trying to contribute to a better apprehension of the complexity of the educational phenomenon, assuming the indispensability of the family in this process and the "immeasurable weight it has in the development of people "(Caeiro, 2005: 21). In a reflexive posture, an analysis is presented around the various family typologies - from the more traditional to the postmodern ones - with emphasis on the social functions that have always been and continue to be attributed.

Formal careers of institutionalized elderly: perceptions and professional satisfaction

Introduction: As a result of the growing demographic aging and the increase in the average life expectancy, the institutionalization of the elderly represents an emerging problem today. We therefore consider it pertinent to study the profile of the formal caregiver of institutionalized elderly people and their professional satisfaction in order to improve the quality of care provided. Aim: It was outlined as a main objective to identify the representations that the formal caregivers have about the care provided to the institutionalized elderly. Methodology: Qualitative study through content analysis of the registration units. The data collection instrument used was the semi-structured interview. The sample consisted of twelve formal caregivers from an institution of the elderly in the central zone of the country. Results: The meanings attributed by the caregivers of what it is to be old were: a person deserving of respect, with wisdom, who needs affection and care, to return to being a child and a person with physical limitations. By caring, they understand giving affection / support, transmitting trust, an essential good, caring for the body, mind and heart and also, knowing how to listen. The relationship of caregivers with the elderly is guided by joy and good disposition, a relation of respect for the individuality / will of the elderly person, trying to adapt to the personality of each one. They often perform hygiene (shaving); dressing / undressing; to raise / to lie down; position; feeding / hydration care; recreational activities and support in the deambulation of the elderly. It is in the transportation and positioning of the elderly that they experience greater difficulties. In most cases, the interviewees report that their work is appreciated by all (elderly, family and management). For some caregivers what gives them greater satisfaction is to feel that the elderly are happy / comfortable. Conclusion: All the interviewees reported that the caregiver activity brings them professional satisfaction and identified training needs in some areas of knowledge. The results of this research lead us to reflect on the importance of creating and monitoring programs of action in the field of training in specific areas adapted to the reality of each institution.
