This paper aims to study the usage of American TV series in English as a foreign language classes through the gathering of chunks of language. Though we start this dissertation from the description of the communicative and its innovative principles by presenting the communicative competence and its four divisions strategic, grammatical, discursive and sociolinguistic based on researches like Hymes (1972), Brown (2000), Richards (2006), Richards e Roberts (1986) and Savignon (1983; 1991). Besides we describe the importance of the realia in a communicative class. As well as we discuss the lesson of the communicative approach and the four abilities reading, writing, speaking and listening. Still talking about the communicative lesson we discuss about teaching grammar, vocabulary and culture. The choice of using TV series is justified because they are a rich source both linguistic and cultural of the English language (North American) and we can find a plenty of examples chunks of language, collocations, phrasal verbs, and idioms. In our analysis we gathered not only the linguistics but also the cultural references of the first episode of Gilmore Girls by using software known as Unitex® that searches the chunks in the script selected and finally we propose some activities based on the analysis.

The motivation proposition for learning has received great notoriety in several academic studies in the last years. On the other hand, there is practically no research on motivation in the population of youth and adult education students. In this perspective, this study presented three objectives: 1 - To describe the school and motivation profile of the AEJA Mackenzie School students, 2 - To verify if the history and the current school profile of these students have association with their academic performance, and 3 - To verify if the motivation for the study of EJA students is related to their academic performance. For the research, this last item is considered as a factor of greater relevance. Through an approach that follows the design of a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study, we evaluated 87 students from Elementary Education I and II of the AEJA Mackenzie School of Youth and Adult Education. As data collection instruments, four structured questionnaires were used: (1) the Assessment Scale of Motivation to Learn for University Students (EMA-U) with the function of characterizing the type of motivation of the EJA students before learning; (2) Social Questionnaire with data on the socioeconomic profile and issues related to the previous and current school experience of the EJA students; (3) The 3rd version of the Wechsler Abbreviated Intelligence Scale (WASI III) for intelligence quotient measurement; and (4) Data provided by AEJA Mackenzie on academic performance and avoidance. After analyzing the results, in characterizing the students profile, it was verified that the reasons for leaving school are not related to the lack of interest in the studies, since 64.4% stopped studying because they needed to work. As to the reasons for resuming studies at the EJA, there was a predominance of the category "desire to learn to read and write", with the result 47.1% of respondents. Two aspects evaluated regarding childhood school history were associated with the better current performance of adults in EJA: those who learned to read and write as a child (CR: 3.57, 95% CI: 1.47-8, 68) and those whose parents encouraged studies during childhood (CR: 3.24; 95% CI: 1.33 -7.90). The main hypothesis of the study was not proven, since there were no statistically significant associations between motivation as a consequence of academic performance (computed in 2016, p = 0.79) nor as a predictor of performance (analyzed in 2017, p = 0.37 ). Some limitations arose in the accomplishment of this research, which could have compromised the results, namely: the small sample size, short procedure time in the collection and application of the instruments and the use of the EMA-U Scale for the first time with the public of the EJA. It is hoped that this material inspires further research with the recommendation that new research be conducted on larger samples to measure results for a better understanding of the motivation effects on academic performance in the EJA

Recent research suggests that men have an overconfidence bias more exacerbated than women, making that men s trading in financial markets are more frequent and the excessive trading leads to lower returns than the yields obtained by women. Therefore this research seeks to answer the following questions: Men trade more than women? That excessive trading that men have leads to lower returns? The methodology applied in this dissertation is the quantitative causal, which seeks to explain why certain individuals have better returns on investment funds than others. This analysis is made using information from a large European bank, with massive presence in Brazil. The results of the trading behavior analysis shows that the average investment return from fund holders is positively affected in the income since they will have access to funds with lower management fees.

The present work centralizes the political practice of Giuseppe Verdi and the analysis of the feminine voices in the Romantic Opera Aida. Through music and an exemplar personal conduct, the nationalist composer has expressed his own political opinions with his operas, which made him a symbol of the conquest of independence and national unity, a period known as Risorgimento, a movement of the Italian history that sought the country s unification between 1875 and 1870. Composed in his maturity, Aida (1871) reflects two crucial aspects of his carrier: the political theme and the concern about man within the society. His contribution for the Italian Romantic Opera development brought innovations in two ways: a) the evolution of drama, where we find the ideal solution between text and music, the word Scenic that first occurred in the end of the XIX and beginning of the XX century; b) the vocal typology of the end of Romanticism the specificity that Verdi gave vocal registries of his characters in that period achieved much importance, so now it is known as Verdian Vocal Evolutions. As a historical reference of Aida and its period of composition from the time it was ordered to its premiere in Cairo and Milan this research seeks after the dialogue in the correspondences between Verdi and his friends, and his co-participation in a libretto with Antonio Ghislanzoni. In relation to the feminine voices, we have investigated the detailing of Verdi s vocal registries and particularities in the vocal line of characters Aida (soprano) and Amneris (mezzo-soprano), presenting a descriptive analysis of the musical excerpts studied in accordance with the evolution of the drama.

The essential objective of this study is the analysis of criminal law, under a marxist perspective, presenting its intrinsic relationship to the capitalist mode of production. The evolution of the punitive system, from the end of the 15th century to the present day, clearly demonstrates the key role that the criminal law has developed in all phases of capitalism. During the transition from feudalism to capitalism, the punishment was fundamental to format the new proletariat, instilling in them the disciplines of the new mode of production. After the Industrial Revolution, the prison adopted a posture more intimidating and terrorist. In the Fordist period, the carcer came to be regarded as a stage to the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the offender into the society, while welfare policies sought to maintain the poor class away from criminality. Finally, in the post-Fordism period, the welfare policies gave way to criminal policies, thus the social control and management of poverty are conducted through the prisons. The mass incarceration of the groups socially segregated, in a policy of zero tolerance, gives the keynote of the present time, as well as the severity of punishments.

With the objective of better understanding the cell phone as a device for cinematographic contents, or simply cine mobile, and in an attempt to get a glimpse of future possibilities for this new medium, this essay compares it with the origins of cinema, the very first actual steps of the illusion of movement, and more specifically with the Mutoscope. And this comparison is not limited to these two technological devices that are representative of two distinct historical periods. The products, a sequence of photograms in the mutoscope s case, and movies in the cell phone s case, and their contours, as well as the socio-cultural background of both ages, shall also be compared, in an attempt to find parallels and divergences between these two devices for moving pictures. In order to help understanding the scope of such possible parallels and divergences, as well as to shed light on the path of possibilities forcinema and mobile telephony, two experts were interviewed, each from a distinct area of expertise (one is a filmmaker, the other is a businessman in the telephony industry). Ultimately, the new questions that are asked are more important than the questions that are answered, for it is the former ones that will further fuel the debate.
