This work consists of a study of songs that belong to the Brazilian dictatorial military period and are popularly known as political songs, once they were used as a vehicle of protest and ideological policy dissemination, consisting of an important resistance instrument to the authoritarian regime. Though, the aim of this research is to verify how the constitution of the subject in the political-social resistance discourse is processed during the military period in Brazil, through parts of the songs by Chico Buarque de Hollanda and, more specifically, verify from which kind of regularities the discursive inscriptions of the military regime emerge and identify regulating principles in the songs. The analysis of the subject constitution, subscribed in a specific social-historical-ideological place, marked by discursive formations that are constitutive to him, helps us not only to have a better subject comprehension, but also of the historical moment and of the discourses the subject was subscribed. Considering that, according to Foucault (1995), the interpretation of the subject is an analysis of the process in which he is subscribed, as he is supposed to be held as an ethical and moral subject, the constitution of the subject in the political-social resistance discourse implies discursive displacements, crossed by the power sphere, according to which power supposes obedience, and by how this complex and heterogeneous net is provided by the determining role of the resistance. Considering the discourse theory based on the assumptions of the French Discourse Analysis, we comprehend that semantic processes are constituted by historical determinations, that everything that is said is historically made possible, and that the search for the social, in the exteriority of the text, crossed by production conditions, by notions of ideology, history, memory and language, constitute inseparable elements to the construction of meaning. One of the discursive regularities found in the process of constitution of the subject and in the construction of meaning was the authorized discourse as a mean of silence.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the texts that compound the material used in distance education courses presenting their regularities according to infrastructure, in order to characterize them as a textual genre. To do so, we are aimed at: a) describing and analysing the texts in relation to the organization of the thematic content (general plan); b) investigating the thematic content and its relation to its sequential textual organization and with the types of discourse that compound each unit. The corpus of this research, of descriptive, quantitative and interpretative nature, is formed by sixteen written units to compound the material used in distance education courses of three Brazilian universities: Centro Universitário Claretiano CEUCLAR (Batatais, SP); Universidade de Uberaba UNIUBE (Uberaba, MG) and Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (Palhoça, SC). The analyses is based on Bronckart s theory (2003), which states that every text is organized into three components: the general textual infrastructure, the textualization and enunciative mechanisms. The studies of Bakhtin (2003) were also used when he defines textual genres and considers constituent elements of enunciation, as follow: thematic content, linguistic resources and compositional construction. We also verified that the units are highly standardized in its general infrastructure, which was our aim in this study, beginning with the general plan, responsible for showing the thematic content organization. In addition, we observed that the dominating sequence in the units is the explicative, followed by the injuntive, argumentative and descriptive ones. Another planification form showed in these texts is the outlines. We also listed the types of discourse in the units and we verified that the theory is predominating, as well as being by the monological interactive discourse, what can help the student be interacted with the text, once in the distance learning education, teacher-student direct contact does not always occur, or it does not exist at all. So, we reached the general aim of the work, which was the characterization of the texts used in the distance graduation courses as a genre, once the way language is organized is determined by its functions in this specific context of the teachinglearning process.

As a Portuguese language teaching professional, we have noticed the difficulty of High School students in using oral language appropriately in different formal communicative events which they are exposed to. Due to this fact, we have become interested in analyzing how the oral mode of the Portuguese language, in its standard school register, has been developed in High School. In order to elaborate this study, we have begun with the hypothesis that oral genres are not formally addressed in the educational context, especially in High School, since teachers do not have a theoretical and pedagogical approach to support their practice. If (and when) this occurs, there is no previous planning for its execution. Because of the variety and scope of oral genres in the school space, we have narrowly defined as a goal for this research to describe and analyze the application of oral presentations in the context of High School in two state high schools from the city of Patrocínio, state of Minas Gerais. Based on the collected corpus, we describe and analyze: (a) the conditions for production in which the students presentations occurred; (b) the internal construction of the presentations performed by them; (c) the mechanisms of textual articulation which are present in their oral production and (d) some non-verbal communication elements which are judged relevant for the understanding of the genre. The corpus was collected during two months, and is comprised of five presentations given in classes of Portuguese (Literature), Biology, Geography and Physics. The study was based principally on the theoretical perspective of Schneuwly & Dolz et al. (2004), Rojo (2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007) and Marcuschi (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005). We have found in our analysis that the genre oral presentation is not formally addressed in the classroom referring to form, probably because teachers regard verbosity only as a vehicle to conduct language. For these teachers, tasks with oral presentation had as a focus mainly content transmission. We have also verified that tasks with the oral modality of language are conducted with frequency in the classroom, but without pedagogical interventions related to the way in which students perform their oral presentations. When it comes to the teachers, we have noticed, through semi-structured interviews, that the majority are not aware of and view as new the possibility of teaching discursive genres. In this regard, they lack theoretical and pedagogical foundation. Nevertheless, they acknowledge this deficiency and are willing to welcome the application of the genre oral exposition as a new practice with their students. Therefore, this study may contribute not only for the teachers to recognize the relevance of oral presentation in the educational context and in the students social life, but also for them to develop a systematic set of tasks in the classroom, which may enable teachers to competently employ this genre in the several situations of formal communication.

The main goal of this study is to investigate and analyze the cognition of pre-service teachers and also of the teacher researcher of this study about the use and possible contributions of drama workshop to the teaching and learning process and to the education of English language teachers. I understand that by analyzing the points of view and opinions of those involved, I can get a better understanding of the teaching and learning process and of the education of pre-service teachers. In a qualitative approach, four different tools were used: focus groups, "Q" Distribution (Q Methodology), reflective sessions and questionnaire. The focus group was used as a secondary instrument to collect data for further development of the Q sample, which is the primary tool in the use of the Q methodology research approach. This Q sample was used in the Q Distribution of pre-service teachers of the third term of a Letras course of a private institution of a higher education Institute in Alto Paranaíba. These participants distributed the sample items throughout a scale ranging from "more likely my point of view" (+5) to "least likely my point of view" (-5) and the results were initially submitted to a factor analysis via a statistical package called PQmethod. From the triangulation of data obtained through the above mentioned instruments and through the qualitative and interpretive analysis, the groups that emerged from the factor analysis were defined, characterized and interpreted by the teacher researcher. The participants share points of view in the perspective of Language Learners (group A), Language Teachers (groups B and C) and Critics (group D). The teacher researcher was also investigated and revealed her cognitions in line with the Language Learners and with the Language Teachers, which may indicate a perspective tending towards the dichotomy: linguistic development and professional education in Letras Course.

Blogging http://www.englishnowhere.blogspot.com: ensinando inglês (sem distância) para surdos

This work investigates the didactic possibilities of using the World Wide Web, specifically on exploring the blog as an additional tool to enhance the teaching and learning of a foreign language (English in this case) for hearing impaired students. Our target sample consistes of a group of deaf students, in the city of Uberlândia, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, that intend to pass the entrance examinations to pursue studies in the Federal University of Uberlândia. We aimed, primarily, in identifying the possible contributions of the blog to these purposes, while valuing and sharpening their visual perception, having in mind that for such subjects exploiting this particular human sense would be of paramount importance to our research purposes. Accordingly, our work gets its theoretical support on the interpretive qualitative research as for data collecting and processing instruments, we used questionnaires, blogging framework interactive tools, reading and writing activities, both in the proposed virtual environment. The research was carried upon a group of 8 students enrolled in CAS Alternative Course for the Deaf that were monitored for both their participative performance in the reading and writing classes in the virtual environment (Internet). The general structure of the didactic material used, named englishnowhere reflects its pinpointed objective, namely that of helping the student to develop global reading strategies, that is, the acquisition of the foreign language through reading practice. The focus on all of the 13 (thirteen) proposed activities consisted in a critical consideration about the strategic knowledge needed to be developed in order that the students could produce sense while resolving any given reading task. The thematic subjects chosen were highly diversified in their scope and were selected from various Internet sources, so as to enhance the student interest in reading, by exploring say daily life matters, stories, fiction subjects, etc , among others, where we made constant use of images and visual components, in order to facilitate the understanding of the text by our hearing impaired students. In fact, in what refers to consolidating their writing ability it was verified that the students were able to do writing on-line without having, in a first moment, to worry about eventual mistakes. Now, as far as online reading ability was concerned, the students were seen to becoming gradually faster readers as their appreciation for readership became increasingly larger. A decisive contribution to that came from the fact that they were exposed on-line to specially creative visual representations as well as to animated characters that, on moving across the screen, facilitated the reading process, a fact that was conjugated to their interactive exploration of the thematic subjects composing each learning module. As to using the blog, we concluded that this type of virtual environment demonstrated to be a rather innovative and satisfactory technological tool, for while making available several visual resources, it also allowed for the quick insertion of links to other pertinent Internet homepages. In short, on seeing it from the user perspective, our findings indicate that the blog framework could be characterized as an organized, interesting and friendly web surfing tool, so that all the participants in the project could use it with no difficult at all, having no problem in uploading and using it at home. To sum up, we have developed a special teaching and learning process for deaf students, where we conjugated some principles from information technology, a definite landmark of contemporary civilization, represented here by our using of Web 2.0. We hope that with the enhancement of the students creative expression through the use of friendly software as pedagogical tools we can contribute to future research and to society.

A enunciação no rádio amador: produtividade lexical e manifestação de alíngua

This dissertation aims at investigating the lexical productivity of and in the enunciative space of the amateur radio PX group, focusing on the UNUSUAL LEXICAL ASPECT. It s necessary to say that we denominate as UNUSUAL a word or expression that escape to the expected in the linguistics enchainment where it emerges because the system presents other word and/or other expression fixed by the social practice, adapting to the situation. Under the theoretical perspective of the Linguistics of Enunciation, crossed by some notions from the lacanian Psychoanalysis, we investigate the UNUSUAL. Theoretically, the research was based on Saussure (2006), Benveniste (2005, 2006), Lacan (1998), Authier-Revuz (1990, 1998, 2004), Milner (1984, 1995, 2006), and others. To what concerns lexical aspects and word formation, Biderman (2001), Coseriu (1979, 1980, 1982), Rio-Torto (1993, 1998), and others were chosen. According to our knowledge of the researched group, it was very important to know the jargon of the PX group to undertake the investigation because this knowledge allowed us to distinguish if a word or expression belonged to a certain jargon or to the UNUSUAL. The enunciation by the amateur radio users points to an enunciative space in which the operators seem to occupy a different enunciative position, considering some of its characteristics such as solidarity, friendship, affection, etc. The PX group is constituted, in its big part, by truck drivers. It s necessary to say that there are operators in residences and/or business, too. We investigated the enunciation related to interactions of amateur radio operators in Monte Carmelo, Minas Gerais. These interactions are among operators from this town and among operators from this town with truck drivers from other places. Our recordings, two tapes, constituting our investigation material, did not follow any criterion related to the informants, such as sex, age or schooling, considering that we were interested in the lexical productivity in the space of this practice. The corpus was constituted by parts of transcriptions of these tapes in which it was possible to construct the UNUSUAL LEXICAL ASPECT, focus of our research. The UNUSUAL, according to our research hypothesis, besides pointing to a lexical productivity characteristic of the orality in this interaction space, would represent a manifestation of THELANGUAGE (lalangue). In this way, it s important to say that one of its characteristics concerns to the fact of registering the hiatus in the language. In the course of our work, we concluded that our hypothesis was confirmed, emphasizing that, to the UNUSUAL occurrences, we constructed some categories: METAPHORIC, EUPHEMISTIC, HYPERBOLIC and EQUIVOCAL. Although these categories proved to be of great importance to understand the object of our research, we do not agree that there is an enclosure of meaning, because there is real . What concerns to the (un)expected does not stop emerging.

This dissertation aims at investigating, under French Discourse Analysis theoretical framework, images in its disposition at a symbolic aesthetical discursive space. Three of van Gogh s pieces have been taken as corpus: Sower, The (1888), Heat field with reaper and sun (1889) and Wheat field with crows (1890). van Gogh will be taken as aesthetics enunciative subject instancy for his alterity in plastic aesthetics space. Thus, such instancy is inscribed, discursively, in an interdiscourse, intercrossed by a discursive memory and historical conditions. There is a color interpellation from which a dialogy means, producing a variety of senses. However, image will be analysed in two procedures: a macro one in which interdiscourse will be emphasized and a micro one in which indiciary paradigm variables (traces and signals) (GINZBURG, 1993) will be considered as clues for examining aesthetics enunciative subject instancy s style. It was developed a methodological tool called indiciary paradigm table which evaluates the discursive potentialization on pictorial materiality. Three stages of analysis will be followed: a descritptive one, an interpretative one and a relational one. In the first, production conditions of plastic pieces will be scanned. In the second, regularities will be evidenced in a condensed matrix. Finally, in the third, symbolic clues will be put in conjunction in order to relate aesthetic singularities. Some theoretical extensions have been constructed in order to make analysis more precise such as: the extension of the concept of polyphony into polychromy and polyaestheticy. Pieces have been analyzed, considering color dialogism and enunciative trace meanings. Such meanings have been taken as visual operators in order to express sense production by a dialogism on colors, traces and symbolic meanings, taken as visual discursivity.

Having in perspective the proficuous research field in the area of Linguistic Studies, the French Discourse Analysis was elected for the making of this project, using the Foucaultian Studies about power and subjectivity as reference. Thus, this project has the objective of analyzing the novel A Caverna (2000) (The Cavern), by José Saramago; more specifically, the constitution of the discursive subject Cipriano Algor is analyzed, paying close attention to the relation of power established between him and the Shopping Center . The proposed general objective of this project is to discuss how the discursive subject Cipriano Algor fits into this relation of power. In order to better establish a cutout so as to do our study, two specific objectives are enhanced: a) to analyze the relation of power as a means of subjectivation of the subject (Cipriano Algor), mapping out how this relation is built throughout the book; b) to show how the discourses which emerge in Cipriano make the constitution of his subjectivity possible and differ from the standards held as normal at the time. Based on the matter of the subject and how the relations of power, shown by the discourses, corroborate to their constitution, the hypotheses that the discursive subject Cipriano Algor constitutes his subjectivity starting from the relation of power which is created between him and the Shopping Center will be defended. Another detail which is shown is that in Cipriano Algor s discourses, elements that come from other enunciative spaces come up, to be more specific, the biblical and philosophical discourses. In our analysis, we observe that the subject of Modernity suffers changes because of fights and arguments which integrate his everyday life. These conflicts are permeated by power, which is present in all relations, forming a web that diffuses it into all social levels. Hence, identities are not fixed, having what Stuart Hall (2005) calls structural change , which consists in the destabilization of the image that the subject has of himself, aspect which is verified in Cipriano Algor, as a discursive subject.

The present research was derived from the inquietudes of my docent practice and it had as an aim the observation of an Acelera s student s inner aspects constitution considering the possible transference´s effects. The corpus of this research is constituted by student s and teachers oral words who took part of the Acelera Program. This work reflects about Acelera s student s oral words concerning the leaning and teaching processes of Portuguese Language in Acelera Program of Learning, it also considers the implications linked to an inclusion´s program that excludes. In this work, through the analysis of students´s oral words, an open a space to think about the leaning and teaching´s process which in priority passes by a subject was established and concerned . The success or failure of this task is related to the way the subject is implicated in this process. In such case, beyond the scholar imaginary which insists in attribute the student as not capable, it´s possible to believe in a leaning and teaching´s process of Portuguese Language mediated by the language´s effects which are able to establish social ties that allow changes in the student s subjective position and it propitiates something of creation order that is able to appear in the process. The analysis of linguistics materials of the oral words confirms that the acquisition of knowledge in the Portuguese language supported by a possible student s desire of knowledge it is a possible way to follow. Through entrance in the transferencial process, teacher and student, in the transit of the significant, could be able to establish social ties that enable a change of subject position. However, there aren´t safe topics which prove that this dislocation would be happen. Theoretically there were discussed concepts of the heterogeneity by Authier-Revuz and also concerns of the third fase of Dicourse s Analysis regarded as well by Lacanian-freudian psychoanalysis . The discourse conception, event and signification of Dicourse s Analysis, as well as, the lacanian conceptions about subject, transference and discourse give theoretical subsidy for this research. This theoretical articulation tried to show that the pedagogic relation ruled in an ethics, however, inserted in a program which denies the singularity, can propitiate the subject to answer for his and learn how to support his own word.

O gênero editorial: uma proposta de caracterização

In this research, we use the notion of genre in order to investigate a midiatic genre called editorial . The corpus of the analysis is composed by sixteen editorials, from ten magazines and six newspapers of national circulation in Brazil. The editorials of magazines are from five different Brazilian publications: Veja, Nova, Casa Cláudia, Todateen and Super interessante. The editorials of newspapers are from Folha de S. Paulo, Estado de Minas and O Globo. Our main purpose in this research was to verify, by examining the constituent aspects of genre as proposed by Bakhtin (1997), in which extent the regularities found in magazine texts and in newspapers texts of the corpus were enough to classify them as distinct genres. By analyzing the constituent aspects of genre proposed by Bakhtin (1997), which are the compositional organization, the style and the thematic content, we could find some similarities among the different magazine editorials and also among the different newspaper editorials of the corpus. At the same time, we could verify differences concerning the peculiar constituent aspects in these two editorial modalities. Therefore, our hypothesis is that the magazine editorial can be classified as a genre and not as a sub-genre of the newspaper editorial, as it is established in the current literature about genre. Another three aspects were examined in the corpus, in order to confirm our hypothesis: the communicative purpose in the perspective of Swales; the multimodality according to the studies of Dionísio (2006) and the influences of the support over the genre, proposed by Marcuschi (2003).

In the present study we proposed to analyze identity and discursive constitution of Austregésilo Carrano Bueno through practices of subjectification and a plurality of subject-positions assumed by him among them, subject of reason and the subjectposition of unreason of which we are concerned to develop the present research. To this end, we rely on Discourse Analysis of the French tradition based on Foucaultian perspective, observing the processes of subjectivity and objectivity that let an average teenager to be framed in the subject-position "crazy" and be up for it. Thus, we treat the historical and discursive constitution of the object madness and its emergence in the corpus selected for analysis from surfaces of emergence and grids of specification. We also approach the procedures to control discourse that lead an individual to fall into the position of crazy. Therefore, we treat the insane asylum as a heterotopic space in which discourses are established. We discuss in our analysis, too, the procedures for control of speech (disciplining, rejection, separation, etc.) determining whether a subject is or is not authorized to speak to a particular place. We must note also that, in our work, do not take into account the classification that typically is done for the three Foucault s phases, because the interest we see, through his theoretical proposal and its methods of analysis was the constitution and the emergence of madness as an object of discourse, which takes place in a relationship between history and memory.

In this study, I investigate, synchronically, the variation of the prepositions para and a, as introducers of adjuncts and verbal complements, in the manner of speech of the inhabitants of Uberaba (Triângulo Mineiro) and Montes Claros (North of Minas Gerais), under the perspective of the Labov Sociolinguistics (LABOV, 1972) and Parametrical Sociolinguistics (TARALLO; KATO, 1989). This research had its origin in the hypothesis that the use of preposition a is more frequent in the region of Montes Claros, while in the region of Uberaba the use of preposition para is more frequent. The corpus of this research is made up of 36 recorded interviews, of which 18 were obtained in Uberaba and 18 were obtained in Montes Claros. The sample selection was prepared, observing four linguistic factors and three social factors, as follows: (i) presence and absence of the prepositions para and a, (ii) syntactic function of the entity headed by the preposition, if it were an adjunct or a complement, (iii) type of clause, (iv) type of verb, (v) age, (vi) schooling and (vii) geographical region. After analyzing the data, I verified that the preposition para is predominant in practically all the groups of factors analyzed, which partially confirms the initial hypothesis.

Caracterização/escolha, presença e comunhão no anúncio publicitário: uma análise linguístico-discursiva

Since we believe that the language can be used not only to convince a person, but also to persuade him/her, in this work we raise some questions related to the use and to the effects promoted by the usage of argumentative strategies on the discourse. With the objective of explaining the importance of those strategies to the meaning while using the language, we have elected as our research objective the advertising discourse, from which we carried on a thorough analysis of 20 (twenty) advertisements presented by Veja magazine and which circulated between January and December 2008. The advertising text, way of mass communication that intends to carry on information and prompt people to acquire products and/or services announced, features the rational use of stylistic and argumentative resources from the daily language. In this field, argumentation is a mean used by the speaker to lead the audience during the process of communication for the end or ends he intend to achieve. From this idea, we discuss, specially, the argumentative functions and their contribution to the establishment of the persuasion link in advertising pieces. Our analysis has as theoretical basis the studies of Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (2002). The work of those scientists represent much more than the reborn of the thinking art focused by Aristotle and despised by the following generations of language studies, because these authors consider rhetoric as the logic of preferable, present on argumentative discourses, in opposition to the formal logic, that pursues the abstract, emphatic or hypothetical truth from the demonstrative discourses. This way, understanding that argumentation is the core feature of the advertisement genre, we observe, in this work, the relation between argumentative functions, by means of the Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca rating, that is choice, presence and presentation and persuasion on advertisement. According to the theory of those authors, we observe if, between the functions choice, presence and presentation, the speakers privilege one (or more) of them to provide for the featuring of their discourse. We were able to identify that the functions of choice, presence and presentation are very recurrent on this text genre, whereas different linguistic-discursive resources act during the establishment of those functions in order to provide persuasion and this happens in an independent manner from the kind of product or service announced. Still, we observe that on the challenging work of creating advertisements, argumentation involves choice of data and showcase techniques in order to guarantee presence and presentation, in a way that there isn t predominance of one or other, but the combined use of those argumentative functions in order to better favor the persuasion of the target public.

In O Caderno Rosa de Lori Lamby (The Pink Book of Lori Lamby), by Hilda Hilst, book taken as corpus for our search, we listen to an eight-year-old girl s voice who writes about her sexual experience with an older man, on her diary. We consider the book as a confessional writing. By the 17th century, the Catholic Church started a job: transforming the sex in discourse via confession. The individual was incited to talk about sex, pleasure and the deepest desires to achieve the salvation. Thus, the sexuality was not denied but incited, organized, building a connection between the individuality and subjectivity. Furthermore, the sexuality is not deleted from the individual. From this perspective, we can verify the sexuality construction as a historical object and production of knowledge. Besides, analyzing the procedures of power and resistance from the book, we want to think about the ways that memory can be recalled through the images which come with the discourses produced, supported by Courtine (1999) who articulates, from the direction shown by Michel Foucault, the linguistics intersection with the History. Considering this theory position, we will identify the statements from the extracts taken for analysis. Thus, we will consider Foucault s postulates about the discursive formations. In accordance to Foucault s postulate, a group of formulations can be considered as a statement if the position of the subject is shown. Certainly a word or a phrase can appear in different times but at each moment it signifies a new meaning and can be understood as different statements. It is considered that when those formulations are reported as a statement, one does not analyze the relation between an author and its writings but, according to Foucault (2008), it determines what position can and must be occupied by any individual to be the subject of a statement. Starting from the selected statements and based on Courtine s theory, we will reflect about the memories which are established as an historical existence through the discursive practices. These memories, however, help us better understand the statement to be read. Afterwards, we aim to investigate O caderno rosa (The Pink Book ) and its form of confession as a kind of self writing, the way the subject of our search becomes subject of its desire and how this relationship happens from the exterior to the interior and, then, from its interior to his own inner. It has been considered by Foucault (1995) that when one looks to its own sexuality, confessing it, one constitutes as a subject. Looking to itself, the individual discovers, from its desire, its self truth in a relationship from self to self and makes itself subject of its own moral.
