When the Educator of the Year is an educommunicator: USP’s role at the concept’s legitimation
2007 was a specially outstanding year for the 10 schools group with the highest grades in “Prova Brasil”. They reached that position because, independent of their infrastructure quality or of their students socioeconomic level, all of them adopt permanently educommunicative practices that involve art and mediatic production. It was also a special year for this journal and for ECA/USP because one of its professors, Ismar de Oliveira Soares, after an Internet survey by Grupo Educartis,was indicated to receive the title of Educator of the Year, for his involvement with Educommunication. In this article, in a text of autobiographic characteristic written by request of Revista Comunicação & Educação, Ismar de Oliveira Soares introduces to readers the formulation and consolidation of the concept by which a remarkable number of educommunicators become, in their students’ heart, “educators of the year”, in their schools, NGOs and communities.
Bicentenary of the press dares the society to promote the cognitive inclusion
Print press bicentennial celebration is the starting point to issue the Brazilian society exclusion question in the field of mass media audience. In order to face this social gap created by illiteracyand stressed by elite press, the author rescue the trajectory of Alfredo de Carvalho \Network, focusing its compromise withprint media democratization.
Freedom, identity and creativity in Uruguayan Popular Music
The author tackles dictatorial period in Uruguay (1973-1985) and shows how censorship did not manage to stop thecoming out of numerous poets and artists who, following the precursor way of the Uruguayan poet Bartolomé Hidalgo (1788-1822), registered the historical and cultural processes that happened in Uruguay. Under extremely severe conditions, the creative freedom of most musitians made itself present as a political commitment to counterbalance one of the worst dictatorships in Latin America, that, almost in unison, alsohappened in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay. She highlights two exponents that, in her understading, synthesize the highest exercise of creative freedom in the second half of the 20th century: Alfredo Zitarrosa and Eduardo Mateo.
Advertising, the art of discrediting
This study tries to evidence the damages in the image of Credicard SA, financial services company, because of itsmassive investiments in advertisement. I presented this proposal of analysis to the specialization course in Communication Management, offered in Escola de Comunicações e Artes of USP, which would give me the necessary theoretical aparatus to think this issue and propose a solution. We analysed client complaint letters sent to newspapers and magazines in comparison with communication practiced by the corporation to sell its services. Six years later, this study would become the book “Advertising,the art of generating discredit”, published by Editora da Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
Teaching obligation in Portugal: a challenge to the social inclusion
The researcher Ana Cabrera, PhD in Political and Institutional Contemporary History and teacher in the Liceu Passos Manuel, central school in Lisbon, talks on the changes in Portuguese Education with the teaching obligation, that forces schools to receive all youngs in school age. For the educator, school has a fundamental role in social change and the challenge presented to teachers is how to take charge of the inclusive teaching as a real opportunity for youngs and children manage to displace from the adverse social situation in which their families live. She worries on how to reach those objectives considering the acceleration of changes that occurred in Portuguese society along last 20 years and how to adequate teachers capacitation for this reality.
Communication, reception and consume: theirs interconnections in Rebelde-RBD
Our study object is the interrelations reception/consumption in the Rebelde soap opera and RBD teenage band. We emphasize issues related to the production of meanings that, according to our analysis, in despite of promoting polissemy, are situated so close to the hegemonic message conveyed. We also upon the practices of consumption that permeate the reception of that media product and we identified that the importance so striking of the material consumption front of the symbolical one is situated in what we callmaterialization of memory.
Procedures for an almost ready scene: the life of a mimic
In this testimony, the mimic Eduardo Coutinho talks on the professional and intellectual challenges that a mimic livesnowadays in Brazil and the ways that took him to the stage and academic life, showing that mime can also be object of study andresearch. In this route, masters as Evreinov, Meyerhold, Étienne Decroux, Tomaszewski and Dario Fo, guided his posture as actorand researcher and built the theoretical framework used for the practical approach presented in the thesis that made him thefirst PhD in Mime in Brazil.
The literature as a patrimony
This report refers to an experience during the 1st semesterof2007 in the Project of Continuing Education for Teachers that is being practiced in the municipal district of São Caetanodo Sul, under orientation of the Project DICA (Didactics, Information, Culture and Art). The educator, Cristiane FernandesTavares, after tackling the importance of literary texts reading as permanent classroom activity with a group of 25 teachersof the Basic Education 3rd year, reflects on the conceptions that some teachers revealed about the activities of literary reading and the contributions brought by the experience.

O Museu Histórico da Imigração Japonesa no Brasil
The celebrations of the centenary of Japanese Immigration in Brazil, which occurred in June 2008, offered a complete overview of culture, arts and technology from Japan to Brazil. One of the associations responsible for organizing the festivities was the Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture and Social Welfare – Bunkyo (abbreviation of the name of the association in Japanese). Among other activities, the Bunkyo maintains 30 Commissions thematic focus for many fronts: organization of annual and special events, the authorities receipt and administration of cultural facilities such as the Historical Museum of Japanese Immigration, which will be presented in this section.
Mazzaropi e Lobato: Jeca Tatu ainda dá umas boas horas de conversa e pesquisa
In this edition, it is presented a reinterpretation of Monteiro Lobato and his character Jeca Tatu, and the cinema of AmácioMazzaropi. The motion picture Jeca Tatu is proposed as starting point to some studies on Brazil and our cultural production.

Communication and education: passages and displacements
In its initial part, this introductory article makes reflections on the mechanisms that interrelate communication, education and the everyday life. For that, it highlights the concepts of no place, displacement and residue showing them as instances thatcontribute to better understand specific processes of complementarity, opposition and tension set between classrooms, media and common knowledge.
Reflections about social dimension of music among the youth
The purpose of this article is to reflect upon some aspects of the youngster socialization coming from the musicallanguage. The proposal is to highlight the integration dimension of this language and its capacity in constructing identities. To take the cultural products, the music in this case,in their social dimension it is to consider their liaison links between the individual and the society; it is to redeem them intheir quality of communication instruments between the universe of ours subjectivities and the objective reality that encircle us. Thus, the music has a power of a socializationforce. In others words, to take the music from a sociological perspective it is to elucidate the potential of this languagein the construction and mediation of the codes and the meanings of a collective and its power to compose our subjectivity.

Joseph Beuys’ art: pedagogy and hypermidia
Como resultado de pesquisa da autora para seu mestrado na Universidade Mackenzie, a proposta deste artigo está ligada à preocupação com a arte como meio de comunicação, compreensão e ação dentro da universidade, através do encontrocom a obra do artista Joseph Beuys e a hipermídia. São analisadas as obras: Coyote, “I Like America and America Likes me” (1974); Directional Forces (1974-1977); os múltiplos Zwei Fräulein mit leuchtendem Brot (1966) e Evervess II 1 (1967), bemcomo cartões-postais e feita citação de outras obras.
Feminine universe and work
In this article, we analysed A música da minha vida: as mais belas histórias que o amor inspirou, volume I e II, organized byRenato Gaúcho, radialist from Paraná State. The book is composed by 23 narratives sent to the radio. We selected 15 narratives in which female work is depicted in which we identified five different patterns.

The Group and scientific journal Comunicar: 15 years for and to educommunication in Spain
Em 1994, surgia em São Paulo (Brasil) a revista Comunicação & Educação, com um primeiro número dedicado à leituracrítica da comunicação. Exatamente um ano antes havia nascido na Espanha (em Andaluzia) a revista Comunicar, voltada, também, à educação em e para os meios decomunicação. Estas duas publicações irmãs têm tido, a partir daí, vidas paralelas em dois contextos distintos, mas partilhando a preocupação pela importância que a comunicaçãopossui em nossas sociedades e pela necessidade de oferecer respostas no âmbito educacional com base em associações civis, universidades e fóruns de reflexão. Nestas páginas descreve-se a história do Grupo que edita a revista espanhola e algumas ações desenvolvidas nos últimos anos por estaassociação de profissionais da educação e da comunicação, no âmbito de formação, investigação e edição de materiais.
