Impact of covid-19 on vegetable seed production

Vegetables play an important role in human nutrition, due to their nutritional value, being rich in various vitamins and minerals. The main vegetables produced in Brazil today are lettuce, potatoes, carrots, onions and tomatoes. The objective of this work was to present the current demand scenario for vegetable seeds, as well as to address the main factors that can contribute, both positively and negatively, to the future of seed production in Brazil. The current scenario is one of reduced demand for lettuce, carrot and tomato seeds, due to the economic problems caused by the pandemic, and maintenance in relation to potato and onion crops. The perspective for the increase in demand for vegetable seeds is linked to the duration of the pandemic and economic stabilization in the country. Population growth and the UN campaign that reports the importance of vegetables for the health of the population are factors that can increase the demand for vegetable seeds.

Ozone therapy as a treatment option against COVID-19: a literature review

Ozone therapy is a treatment that uses ozonized medicinal gas, with a mixture of ozone and pure oxygen in concentrations of 5% and 95% respectively. This therapy has considerable and expressive benefits when administered in adequate doses, as it has a strong antioxidant, bactericidal, fungicidal and antiviral action. Among the antiviral actions, ozone therapy has interesting characteristics to fight the coronavirus. In this sense, this research intends to carry out a literature review on the application of ozone therapy in the treatment of COVID-19 infection. This study is an integrative bibliographic review of the exploratory type of qualitative character, with data collected in articles, monographs and Brazilian legislation from March 2011 to March 2021. Through the results, it was possible to see that ozone therapy can be used as monotherapy or adjuvant in association with other drugs in the treatment against COVID-19, since after the use of this therapy there was an improvement in the clinical picture, in the biochemical markers of inflammation and radiological without presenting side effects, becoming effective and beneficial treatment for patients. This work corroborates the expansion of the understanding and spread of ozone therapy and reports the social and scientific relevance of the use of ozone therapy in the treatment of COVID-19.

Growth, productivity, efficient use of water and productive costs of peanut BR1

Arachis Hypogaea L. has a strong economic importance in Brazil, being used in the in natura form and in the production of its derivatives as oils, pastes and bullets. The municipality of Petrolândia in the state of Pernambuco, located in the semi-arid region of the Northeast, presents climatic characteristics conducive to the good development of the crop with temperature in the range of 28 to 32 ºC. The objective of this work was to analyze the growth of peanut crop, cultivar BR1, for different soil preparation systems as a function of the water slides, and the influence of these parameters on productivity. The efficient use of water and the cost benefit of production in the region were evaluated. The work was done using the experimental design of randomized blocks and the plots were arranged in strip in 4 replications, with the preparation of soil arranged in the main plot and irrigation slides in the secondary plots, thus distributed. Soil preparation was done using Disk Plow, Harrow, Scarifier and Leveling Grate. The irrigation slides were used considering 50, 75, 100 and 125% of the water requirement of the culture. The consecutive increase of the irrigation slides showed an increase in productivity. Soil preparation systems did not show a significant increase in production. The higher efficiency of water use was observed with the 50% slide. The best cost benefit was identified in the preparation with scarifier + leveler with the 100% ETc blade.

Anterior crossbite treatment in the transitional period of mixed dentition: a case report

Anterior crossbite refers to the abnormal vestibulolingual relationship in the sagittal dimension between one or more anterior superior and inferior anterior teeth. It can be classified as dental, functional or skeletal. Each has its own diagnostic criteria and specific treatment, and it is up to the dentist to know how to distinguish between these different natures of malocclusion. In this sense, the aim of this study is to show a case report about an ACM. Patient HCA, female, 7 years old, attending the Preventive Orthodontics Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba - UNESP, having as main complaint “untidy front tooth”. The patient has no history of systemic diseases or medication use. The patient was in the first transitional period of mixed dentition with her right maxillary central incisor in crossbite relationship with its antagonists mandibular central incisor. On both sides, the patient had the first permanent molars in Class I relationship, the deciduous second molars with mesial step and the deciduous canines in a Class I. Initially, an acrylic appliance with an expander was installed. Due to lack of cooperation, the treatment plan was changed and the patient received a fixed appliance with a 2x2 configuration, with brackets on maxillary central incisors and edgewise tubes on maxillary deciduous molars. In the lower arch, a bite lift was performed on the occlusal surface of mandibular deciduous molars to unblock the occlusion and facilitate the movement of right maxillary central incisor. The total treatment time was 60 days.

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected healthcare systems around the world, affecting the assistance for a variety of chronic diseases, including cancer diagnosis and treatment. Cancer patients are included in the group of vulnerability to higher severity and mortality from Sars-CoV-2 infection. Studies on the impact of COVID-19 on Brazilian cancer patients are insufficient in the literature. This study aims to compile information on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Brazilian cancer patients, mainly about diagnosis, care, and mortality. A literature review was carried in Google Scholar, Scielo and Pubmed platforms. The following descriptors were stablished: “COVID-19”, “Cancer”, “Mortality”, “Diagnosis” and “Service”. A total of 13 articles were included in the review. The studies analyzed involved populations from different Brazilian regions, mostly in the Southeast region. Multiple types of cancer were observed, with emphasis on head and neck neoplasms. All studies showed a reduction in the numbers of cancer diagnoses, a deficit in the number of appointments, hospitalizations and surgical procedures was also evidenced, in addition to high mortality rates for cancer patients infected by the Sars-CoV-2. In conclusion, the research demonstrated the huge impact of pandemic course on cancer patients by decreasing the number of diagnoses, appointments, surgeries, and a significant increase in the hospital mortality rate. These findings indicate the imminent negative consequences in the diagnosis and mortality from cancer in the following years and could provide warning for the development of health protocols and continuous research that minimize these impacts.

Genotype-environment interaction effects on weight gain in cattle using reaction norms

The existence of genotype-environment interaction (GEI) using reaction norm models and their impact on the genetic evaluation of Nellore sires for body weight at 120, 210, 365 and 450 days of age was verified. Three models were used: animal model (AM) that disregards GEI and the one-step reaction norm model with homogeneous and heterogeneous residual variance (1SRNMH_het). Bayes Inference via Gibbs Sampling was used to estimate the variance components. The AM model better fits to weights at 120 and 210 days of age, while 1SRNMH_het was more adequate for body weights at 365 and 450 days of age, suggesting the existence of GEI. The posterior means of direct heritability were 0.33±0.01 and 0.36±0.01 and maternal heritability of 0.21±0.01 and 0.19±0.01 for body weights at 120 and 210 days of age, respectively. For body weights at 365 and 450 days of age, posterior means of heritability varied along the environmental gradient, but the ranking of sires based on breeding values was not changed by different environmental gradients. All rank correlations were greater than 0.80, strongly suggesting a scale effect of GEI. Despite the evidence of GEI on post-weaning weight gain, it did not change the ranking of sires. Therefore, it did not have a relevant impact on the genetic evaluation of sires because they are robust to environmental changes.

Pharmaceutical care in Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder and the main cause of dementia, as the disease initially affects the hippocampus and slowly progresses to other parts of the brain, causing cell damage and death, specifically of neurons, generating irreversible damage and consequences for all cognitive functioning. , affective, intellectual and behavioral, negatively influencing the individual's autonomy and independence. Patients are undergoing treatments for chronic use, as there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease. Treatment aims to minimize the symptoms of the disease, enabling partial improvement to prolong survival and delay progression. Given the real importance of pharmaceutical assistance directed to the patient, which optimizes the response of a given pharmacotherapy, through which the pharmacist, together with the patient, carries out a follow-up plan. In this context, this work aims to highlight the importance of pharmaceutical care both in pharmacotherapy and outside it. This is a cross-sectional and descriptive integrative review study with a qualitative and quantitative approach on the subject, where searches were made in the Scielo and VHL databases about the subject. A total of 1,199 works were found, in which a screening was carried out to collect the results. It was observed that the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease is capable of delaying or temporarily stagnating the advance of symptoms, aiming to alleviate cognitive deficits, behavioral changes and improve the quality of life of the patient and his family. The treatment of Alzheimer's Disease must be multidisciplinary and with the objective of providing stabilization of cognitive impairment, modifying the manifestations of the disease, with a minimum of adverse effects. In this context, immunomodulators are more likely to become drugs capable of influencing the course of AD, as the selected studies had better quality and the results were promising. On the other hand, the toxicity of drugs for the treatment of AD is a major obstacle, and to overcome this situation, the presence of pharmaceutical care becomes increasingly essential.

Gastrointestinal parasites in wild and exotic animals from a Zoobotanical Park in Northeast of Brazil

One of the obstacles for ex situ conservation of wild and exotic animals are the diseases that affect them in captivity and, among them, the endoparasitoses, which are very frequent. The objective of this study is to report the occurrence of endoparasites in the fecal samples of animals from the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park, at João Pessoa, Paraiba State, Brazil, as well as to identify significant statistical differences between the percentages of each parasite species found. To this end, 66 fecal samples were obtained from 50 species of animals including mammals, birds, and reptiles. Statistical differences between the percentages of each parasite species were obtained using the binomial test at 5% significance level. A total of 54.5% (36/66) of the fecal samples were positive (p=0.539), among which 80.5% (29/36) presented nematodes, followed by cestodes 19.4% (07/36), protozoans 13.9% (05/36), and mites 16.7% (06/36). This study reports for the first time the association of Balantidium sp. with Tapirus terrestris, Bertiella sp. with Alouatta caraya, Hymenolepis spp., and Aspiculuris spp. as spurious parasites in reptiles; and Entamoeba coli and Eimeria spp. with Iguana iguana in the northeastern part of the country. This study provides knowledge about some of the endoparasites that may occur in zoos in the northeastern region of the country, as well as in expanding the ecological data on wild and exotic animals.

Patient's intellectual autonomy: relationship between contact and the search for knowledge about a particular disease in Primary Care

The World Health Organization reports that the majority of the world's population will live to be 60 years or more. In order to have a longer life, with quality of life, the health factor is essential. Consequently, having access to clear and reliable information about the diseases you live with is an important tool for the prevention and treatment of diseases. Thus, the objective was to research, through the application of a questionnaire, the theme of choice, by the clientele, for the action of conversation circles in a public clinic, and to verify whether contact with the disease influences the interest in the search for knowledge about the same. The experience took place in the waiting room of the Sette de Barros Ambulatory, after Ethics approval - opinion 2,925,286. The printed questionnaire was applied to 378 people, in the months of September and November 2018. The survey identified that: (i) regarding the topics chosen for discussion, the most voted was depression with 292 votes; followed by arterial hypertension (261); dyslipidemia (256) and insomnia 247; (ii) most respondents demonstrated having contact with someone who has hypertension (311 respondents), followed by depression (291 opters), insomnia (289) and diabetes (287). It is inferred that there is a positive relationship between the choice for the topic and the experience of patients with the diseases, since it is more recurrent that individuals have doubts about the topic and Primary Care is one of the places to search for safe information and accessible on health-related topics.

Allelopatic effects of Waltheria indica L.: Biocontrol potential in ecological restoration

In Brazil, most degraded areas are occupied by exotic and invasive species, which require alternatives for their management. We evaluated the allelopathic effects of Waltheria indica in the laboratory from aqueous extracts of leaves and roots on the germination of the species Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce), Urochloa brizantha (Hochst. ex A.Rich.) RDWebster (brachiaria) and Handroanthus chrysotrichus (Mart. ex DC.) Mattos (yellow Ipe). We collected adult one-year-old Waltheria indica shrubs in ecological restoration areas by direct seeding. We used two treatments with aqueous extracts of leaves and roots and a control without extract, with ten repetitions of 10 seeds per treatment, totaling 600 seeds per test species. Germination and use of tetrazolium assays to evaluate the potential respiratory activity of the roots were used. The aqueous extract of W.indica leaves affected the number of germinated seeds of all test species, while the aqueous extract of roots affected only L. sativa and H. chrysotrichus. There were no significant differences between treatments (leaf and root extracts) in species germination. The aqueous extracts of Waltheria indica leaves and roots affected germination and cellular respiration of the studied species, mainly in Lactuca sativa. The identification of W. indica allelopathic compounds may be an initial step so that in the future new bioherbicides are produced from extracts of this species, or even that its seeds can be sown together with non-sensitive native species, aiming for control of exotic species in ecological restoration projects.
