Sumo: japonese sport in Ivoti/ RS

In the Japonese colony of the city Ivoti, Rio Grande do Sul, the corporal practices of wrestling stand out, among them sumo. The present study aims to investigate how the the practice of sumo occurred in Ivoti, since the firsts manifestations, in the 1960s, until the the mid-2010. For this purpose, printed sources, iconographic sources and an oral source were analyzed. From the collating and interpretation of the information it was possible to understand that, through the practice of sumo and its representations and adaptations, the Japanese-Brazilians of Ivoti sought to preserve cultural practices of their ancestors, linking the specific martial art, just as social moments tied to it, to a family tradition. In this scenario, the Associação Cultural e Esportiva Nipo-Brasileira de Ivoti (ACENB) appears as a privileged space to the development of sumo and the maintenance and negotiation of identity representations.

Rosian Metrics (1929-1967)

In this article we will briefly present some results from a study of textual statistics applied to the complete literary work of João Guimarães Rosa, we know that there are the epistles of Rosa, but these were not used because they did not have an original literary character. Grosso modo, two fields have been extensively explored: the first field portrays the general and specific characteristics of Guimarães Rosa's own vocabulary, and the second field compares the results to three theses of Rosa's literary criticism that show intriguing questions about the vocabulary of Rosa and its manifestations throughout the productive literary life of the author.

Conceptions on radioactivity involving the environmental perspective of chemistry graduates

In the present study we propose a new look at rescuing the condition of radioactivity as a natural and present phenomenon in our lives going beyond the accidents and calculations present in the teaching of radioactivity. This notion was object of a formative proposal in a course of Degree in Chemistry in a public institution of Pernambuco in action research form as strategic. We aimed to analyze the conceptions of licensees about Radioactivity Environmental through the use of conceptual maps produced before, at end and three months after the end of the training proposal. In general, we noticed that there was a gradual evolution of radioactivity concepts, especially regarding corrections of the mistakes identified, as well as the consolidation of some information referring to the environmental perspective. Through these results, we believe in contributing to new teaching practices based on radioactivity concepts of future chemistry teachers.

Dance clubs as leisure space: the legislative scenario after the disaster at Kiss nightclub

This study aims to analyze the actions of the public power towards private leisure establishments (dance clubs) in the scope of legality, after the disaster at KISS Nightclub. We used as a way the Document Analysis (Complementary Law nº 14.376, of December 26, 2013, the Police Investigation of the KISS Nightclub and the print media Diário de Santa Maria) and the Content Analysis. We inferred the mobilization of the public power, after the disaster, in the creation of legislations that would guarantee safety in the dance clubs, especially the Kiss Law, as well as its flexibility, explaining that the economic system and private interests are benchmarks of politics and of the relations between the public and the private. The KISS Nightclub disaster registers the seriousness of risks in the leisure sphere and in the technologies that incite desires, and the need to guarantee social rights and social equity.

Cultivating Batis maritima, Sarcocornia ambigua and Sporobolus virginicus with wastewater from the cultivation of Litopenaeus vannamei

Shrimp wastewater discarded directly into the environment can impact the stability of adjacent ecosystems. This study evaluated the following: the growth of halophytes cultivated with shrimp culture water and water from an estuary; the interaction between the integrated cultivation of halophytes and shrimp in water recirculation systems; and physicochemical variables of wastewater before and after being treated with halophytes. Two bench experiments were carried out using fiber boxes to cultivate the halophytes. In both experiments, growth and initial and final mass of the plants were measured weekly. The relative and absolute growth rates were measured for the mass and height of the plant species. The absolute growth rates for Batis maritima of systems one and two of the first experiment, and of the system of plants of the second experiment, were 1.12 cm/d, 4.40 cm/d and 3.55 cm/d, respectively. The data indicated that halophytes cultivated with shrimp wastewater had higher growth and that the nutrients of the culture medium were reduced in the presence of plants.

The didactic-scientific modeling strategy for the conceptualization of real in the physics teaching: a case study with high school teachers

It is almost consensus in the context of physics education research the relevance of teaching strategies focused on critical reflections about the topics on discussion. Based on previous studies, we assumed that “didactic-scientific modeling” strategy is a promising theoretical-methodological framework for this purpose. Its theoretical background was mainly based on Vergnaud’s conceptual fields theory and the Bunge’s epistemological conception concerning scientific modeling process. This framework has been used on a compulsory graduate course of a professional master in physics teaching. This empirical study, with qualitative focus and explanatory purpose, allowed us to collect evidences of conceptions, difficulties and advances in the conceptualization of the real by the students enrolled in this course and also to identify possible operative invariants used by them.

Melodramatics Masculinities in Three Films Starred by Sandro

The aim of this article is to explore the representations of masculinity in three melodramasstarred by Sandro: Muchacho (1970); Siempre te amaré (1971); and Embrujo de amor (1971). From a genre perspective, our analysis focuses on the melodramatic plots of these films, which can be thought as rites of passage from a not virile youth to the conquest of the manliness linked with heterosexual love. The masculine body is regarded as an object of desire and identification built by the camera, using class and race marks, which are condensed in the musical scenes of these films. The article also examines the lyrics of the songs used in them. It shows that Sandro’s performances potentialized meanings and ways of representing the masculine body that tensioned the hegemonic standards of the time.

Self-management: political and methodological challenges to the incubation of solidarity economic

After reviewing the historic origins of self-management in France and Brazil, this article questions people’s ability for selfmanagement, or the situation in which without a boss there is no viable society. It turns to Clastres to show that, if political power is an inherent need of social life, it does not need to be hierarchical. There is no innate human nature, but our specificity as human beings is precisely our ability to transform ourselves and the world. Self-management is a central concept of the Brazilian solidarity economics movement because it distances itself from capitalist and welfare relations and encourages radical democracy. Self-management has a multidimensional character (being social, economic, political and technical) and therefore, it is not enough to want to implant selfmanagement. It is also necessary to create the conditions for its realization. The article also reflects on the methodology of selfmanagement practiced by members of a university incubator of solidarity economics.

Jane Austen and the phenomenon of zombie-authorship in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith, is a literary mashup, the fragmentation procedure of a classic work to graft elements of contemporary pop culture. One of the main questions raised by the novel involves the game of palimpsest inherent to its authorship, since the work was produced through the writing of a dead author (Austen) and a living author (Grahame-Smith). However, it should be noted that the English novelist of the regency period had already experienced intricate dynamics for the attribution of authorship to her own works when it was first published. In this context, the present article analyzes the game between living author and dead letter (or between living work and dead writer), so remarkable in the artistic collaboration that generated Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The Dual Role of Evo-Devo Mechanisms and the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis

The distinction between mechanisms that generate biological variation and mechanisms that modify it has been important in contemporary Biology, especially since the establishment of the Evolutionary Synthesis (ES) in the first part of the twentieth century. In the ES, and in its subsequent legacy to evolutionary biology, the focus was directed at mechanisms that modify biological variation. In recent years, evo-devo (Evolutionary Developmental Biology) emerged as an area of knowledge that proposes to extend the ES in many forms. In this sense, given that evo-devo integrates different areas of Biology, different types of mechanisms can be found. In order to understand evo-devo mechanisms, as well as its relation with the ES, we analyzed the role that evo-devo mechanisms play with respect to biological variation. The main question in our analysis was: do evo-devo mechanisms have a function of generators and/or modifiers of biological variation? We focused on three evo-devo mechanisms: environmental induction, hypervariability/somatic selection and developmental bias. Our analysis showed a different characterization of the action of evo-devo mechanisms. This heterogeneity in the role of evo-devo mechanisms shows that, in general, the distinction is maintained but there is a mechanism that presents a dual role. Our analysis indicates that, at least with respect to mechanisms, evo-devo extends and departs from what was proposed in the evolutionary synthesis.

'Serving the turn': collaboration and proof in illegal hand-press period books

This article considers the proofing of illegally-printed texts, primarily during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.  We argue that proofing – the practice of correcting a text during the printing process – is key to understanding the social dynamics of authorship, and the strains on production resulting from political suppression of the press during this period.  We look at the evidence of proofing left in books (usually religious pamphlets), as well as the testimony of authors and printers.  These sources reveal that illegal printing necessitated a remarkable degree of team work.

Transmedial collaborative productions in Secret Path and Airplane Mode

The term “transmedia” has gained popularity in the entertainment industry and has been widely used to designate the use of several media platforms that converge to tell a story. As a result, transmedia changes the modes of consumption and production of contemporary cultural products. On one hand, transmedial projects attract consumers that are no longer just readers or players (or users, spectators, etc.), but are a combination of them. On the other hand, these projects often require “superproducers” or “superartists”, with knowledge and skills in various media, or a well-planned collaboration between producers or artists. In this text, we will examine the collaborative productions in the Canadian Secret Path (2016) and in the Brazilian Airplane Mode (2017) transmedial projects.

Study of free fall in Physics lessons in the Hight School from a time marker and Science History

It has already been studied and there is already a consensus among researchers in Science Teaching, that experimental activities are very important for the teaching and learning process of scientific concepts, however, are also known to the multiple and varied difficulties faced by teachers In developing them in real classroom situation with their students. Research has also shown to be significant the contributions that the History of Science can bring to the work of the science teacher in planning and directing didactic activities in the classroom. In this work, we propose a version of a low cost and easy construction time marker for the determination of the local gravity acceleration and the use of the History of Science as an important resource to the teacher for the planning of discussions with the students on the movement of free fall.
