Benthic invertebrate community and trophic structure in two man-made lakes

Benthic invertebrates are important in both stream and lentic ecosystems, due to their ecological contribution in the nutrient cycling energy flow through the trophic levels. This study aimed to determine the community of benthic invertebrates and to characterize their trophic groups in two lakes located in Parque dos Imigrantes (Mallet, PR, Brazil). Samples were collected using a sieve with a diameter of 30 cm, with a mesh of 0.05 mm in February of 2014, totaling six samples in each lake. We collected 271 benthic invertebrates in the lakes. Over 24 taxa were identified to the genus level, and occurred in three functional trophic groups (FTG). The taxa that contributed most to the community were Belostomatidae, Notonectidae, Chironomidae and Hydropsychidae. A greater abundance of predators was observed, followed by collectors and filterer-gatherers. This work showed that the local characteristics of the lakes influenced the abundance of sampled benthic community, although there was no difference in the structure of trophic groups between the two lakes.

Concerns of theachers of Physical Education at the beginning of the teaching career

The research analyzed the concerns of Physical Education teachers who were at the beginning of their careers. The descriptive study of qualitative approach had the participation of 16 effective teachers who were between the first and fourth year of teaching in the municipal and state schools of Maringá (Paraná). For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used and the information was analyzed according to the technical of content analysis. The results showed that all groups have concerns with the dimensions with self, task, task impact, social reality of the student, public policies for education and status of the discipline. In addition, it was observed that the restlessness of teachers with one and two years of career presented a more critical and resistant behavior to the norms of the institution, while teachers with three and four years of teaching presented a critical and mature attitude towards the problems of work.

critical analysis to the text "health policies – from formal project to concrete practice"

The authors put into question popular institutionalized participation, through the Municipal Health councils — CMSs, mechanisms of democratic management and social control of the health system. Given the degree of commercialization of health and illness in the context of neoliberalism, with daily threats and evident privatization, retaking the discussion of the ideals of Sanitary Reform and the constitutional conquest obtained through social movements is both urgent and essential. The participation of representative organisms from the working class in this debate is indispensable, as well as the mobilization of their defense in their own interests, as much in the day to day activities of health agencies as in the great decisions that put their lives into play. In this sense, the initiative of Simionatto and Nogueira to reevaluate the situation of the CMSs, calling attention to the necessity of recreating forms of participation to guarantee the socialization of political power, represents an important contribution. This analysis politicizes the question since popular participation an control, in a moment of disactivation of public policies and social demobilization, can transform itself into just another demagogic discourse. It also contributes to the professional debate since Social Work, as a mediator between the State and the working class, pushes itself into the interior of social policies, being one of the agents of its operations. In this mediation, even if contradictory, it falls upon itself to become a stimulator of political participation on the part of the population, as one of the forms of increasing its presence among the citizenry.

The essential foundations of argumentation in science education: a study from the units, taxonomic elements and quality of the argument

This study aims to understand the argumentative discussions established by children during the development of Inquiry-based Activities in Science Education (IBASE). For this, we elaborated two instruments of analysis of the argumentation. The first, called Taxonomical Elements of Scientific Argumentation (TESA), seeks to characterize the structure and progression of the argument and the second, called Quality of the Modified Argument, aims to rank the argument at different levels. To exemplify the use of these instruments, the children's and young people's argument was analyzed in a scientific workshop on "Flight of the Airplanes". As a result, the categories evidenced by TESAs cannot be thought of as isolated and autonomous units, but rather as a continuum of evolution, characterizing in discursive movements from the simplest to the most complex.

Contributions of the Arduino in the Teaching of Physics: a systematic review of publications in the area of education

This paper presents a review of the literature on the use of Arduino in Physics teaching, conducted through the consultation of articles published in the main Brazilian science teaching journals. The research focused on the contributions of the use of Arduino directed to the teaching of Physics and resulted in a sample of 20 articles. The collected papers were classified into two categories: didactic proposals tested in the classroom, and didactic proposals for application in the classroom. In addition, the main objectives expected by the practices are: innovation of the didactic laboratories, interdisciplinarity and contextualization, potentiate the learning of the physical concepts, make classes attractive and motivating, obtaining data and dissemination of the Arduino. It is possible to observe that, although this technology is relatively new, there are already many publications in the area, with possible applications in physics teaching. Most, with metrological proposals focused on experimental practice, as well as, the automation of didactic laboratories. In general, in the experimental practices approached, satisfactory but punctual results were obtained. Although many innovatory didactic proposals have been made public, there are still few studies that show data regarding the learning of physical concepts through the application of the aforementioned resources in the classroom.

América Portuguesa: paraíso terreal

This article aims at analysing Brazil as being terrestrial Paradise. The conception of Paradise assumes the existence of a perenial climate, colorful birds and absence of sin. When arrived in América in 1492, the spanish explorers took it as a true terrestrial paradise, since according to Columbu’s records, America is described as the land whose climate is agreeable and perenial; the flora is colorful and assorted; the american people (the indians) stay nude in the very same way they were born. Therefore, these people did not know the meaning of sin and availabe for receiving the “civilizing” Cristian Doctrine. The idea of paradise, although dominant, is not exclusive since the new continent starred being explored, the idea of paradise became under threat. New plants, strong winds, and above all strange people and animals. Therefore, there has been a tencency for taking America as a Paradise, but not exclusively.

A proposal with low cost for cathode ray experiments

This paper presents a proposal for the adaptation of one of the experiments on the nature of the cathod rays performed at the end of the 19th century, specifically the one presented in textbooks and scientific dissemination as "the Thomson experiment" for the calculation of charge /mass ratio of the electron. Our proposal uses materials at a lower cost than experiment kits available on the market and presents a detailed description of its construction and operation, and contributes in several respects as a solution to some of the reasons related to the low utilization of experiments in science classes: the high cost materials and equipment, the lack of laboratories and the lack of ability of teachers. The elaboration of the experimental apparatus is also accompanied by the mathematical development necessary for its use and the indication of the various physical phenomena that can be treated in parallel with its implementation. With the experimental adaptation, we were able to measure and calculate the magnetic field to which the electrons are subjected inside a cathode ray tube, the potential difference between cathode and anode in the tube (electron acceleration voltage), the magnetic deflection that the electrons undergo, and to a good approximation the speed of translation of the electrons and the charge/ mass ratio of these particles.

Ethics, autonomy and critical thinking in the high school Physical Education classes

The issues of ethics, autonomy and critical thinking in Physical Education (PE) practices in High School (HS) require discussions in the academic field, since the current Law on Guidelines and Bases of Education foresees the development of these themes as one of the purposes of HS. This study objective was to map, in articles from national journals, the knowledge production about the PE teacher’s pedagogical practices. A state-of-the-art review was carried out in six journals, looking for   the descriptor "high school" in the abstract. In this research, 93 articles were found, 25 dealing with these themes, and only 9 dealing with practical action, application and/or intervention in classes. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate pedagogical practices based on these themes, with strategies that value the area, compassing the legislation and contemplating an integral and citizenly education of the student.

Effect of physical exercise on gait kinematics in people with down syndrome - systematic review

People with Down syndrome (SD) present gait problems from childhood to adulthood. Objective of this study was to perform a systematic review of the literature addressing the effect of controlled physical exercise on gait kinematics in SD individuals. The literature search occurred in eight electronic databases. Quality analysis (k = 0.92) of ten studies was selected and verified. Thus, there was a lack of research on the effects of controlled training programs on gait kinematics in the syndromic population. There was a greater participation of males (37%) compared to females (27.3%), and 60% of the studies aimed at the syndromic population in this study concern infants with aerobic training protocols. The results showed benefits of controlled exercise programs modifying favorably the kinematics of gait of individuals with DS, especially in the first two years of life.
