Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing enterobacteria isolated from broiler breeder chickens

Due to the use of antibiotics for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections in intensive poultry production, it is important to study the prevalence and resistance profile of gram-negative extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria. Among the several classes of antibiotics available, beta-lactam agents are the most widely used category in human and veterinary medicine. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance profile and ESBL-producing capacity of strains isolated from broiler breeders. Gram-negative bacteria were isolated in selective media from a collection of 87 cloacal swabs, and they were identified by conventional biochemical methods and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and studied for antibiotic resistance, including ESBL production. Of the 87 samples, 52 gram-negative bacteria were isolated. There was high bacterial resistance to the main classes of antibiotics used in poultry: cephalosporins (74.2%), quinolones (73.8%) and penicillins (73.6%). A phenotype suggestive of ESBL production was also found in 42.31% of isolates, showing resistance to the beta-lactam antibiotics tested. The results demonstrate the need for the guidance of professionals working broiler breeders to reduce the presence of drug-resistant and ESBL-producing bacteria and to prevent their spread to the environment, fertile eggs and broilers, and consequently to chicken meat and humans.

Classroon demonstration: Foucault s currents explored by the computer hard disc (HD)

This paper making an experimental exploration of Foucault s currents (eddy currents) through a rotor magnetically coupled to computer hard disc (HD) that is no longer being used. The set-up allows to illustrate in a stimulating way electromagnetism classes in High Schools for mean of the qualitative observations of the currents which are created as consequence of the movement of an electric conductor in a region where a magnetic field exists.

Discursive interactions in cognitive skills in a Science Club

This study analyzes the Discursive Interactions evidenced in a Science Club of a Federal University and its influence to the manifestation of Cognitive Skills in the students, during the stage of Approach with the reality of a Sequence of Investigative Teaching. We characterize this research as qualitative and the place analyzed is considered a non-formal educational environment, where practical investigative activities are developed by means of experimentation, with a focus on Science and Mathematics. 22 students from the 5th and 6th years participated in the research, being selected 5 students, accompanied by a teacher monitor. The activity analyzed was titled “Problem of the Glass” and explored contents related to the air and its place in the space. We showed that the identified Discourse Interactions aided in the manifestation of Cognitive Abilities in students. We identified predominance of interactive / dialogic communicative approach and levels of Cognitive Skills alternating between Lower (N2, N3) and High Order of Cognition (N4, N5).

Between Individual Decisions and Collegiate Deliberations: deciding how to decide, influencing the outcome

How does the institutional design of the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) interfere in the decision-making process of the conflicts that are submitted to it? STF’s Justices, as individually responsible of each proceeding in progress, can strategically decide through available procedural resources what and when to bring them to trial individually or collectively. This article inserts itself in this debate to question the independence of its Justices before the other political actors, but also before (or against) their peers, considering the possibilities of interaction of strategic models to the Brazilian case, before the constitutional, legal and regimental rules that establish the performance of the members of the Court. The general hypothesis is that the normative design of the Court assures multiple options for magistrates in the conduct of judicial proceedings, promoting strategies aimed at maximizing the winning chances of their preferences, as well as reducing their respective decision costs.

Outsourcing of Physical Education in basic education

At present, it is possible to notice the growing outsourcing that occurs on a global scale, and in Brazil, with the new labor regulations, almost all services can be performed by third-party workers. This essay is based on the following question: what aspects and possible problems of outsourcing in School Physical Education? The purpose of the study was to analyze the phenomenon and its relation with the studied discipline, identifying the characteristics and reflecting on the possible unfolding in the daily practice of pedagogical practices. We chose a research in a large teaching unit of the private network of Feira de Santana, the largest city in the interior of the State of Bahia. Some characteristics of the Outsourcing of School Physical Education were identified, among them, they do not have status as a discipline belonging to the basic curriculum, lack of interdisciplinarity, absence of Physical Education teachers from pedagogic meetings, among other characteristics.

Lightning rod: a simple and low cost experiment for eletrostatics

With the objective of contributing to make significant the scientific learning, this work suggests a simple and low-cost experiment to demonstrate electrostatics knowledge studied in High School. The experimental proposal has yet the concern of focusing the content, linking it to daily technological elements. Doing that, and due to the practical interest it can arouse in student, we presented the operation of an idealized Lightning Rod to apply in electrostatics school knowledge and to show that the same one can have an important day by day usefulness and it cannot be a turned off abstraction or distant from the reality.

From Obstetric Violence to Empowerment of Pregnant People in the Doulas’s Work

Starting from interviews with doulas from different regions of Brazil and from a constructivist stand as epistemological and methodological support, this paper seeks to understand the meanings attributed by the doulas interviewed to their experiences both in general life and in their specific activity as well as to their own relational contexts. The paper points out some of the situations of violence with which they are faced in their everyday activity and the importance of the bond between the women for the strengthening of their autonomy and empowerment and overcoming of vulnerabilities. As a result, this paper shows that acting as a doula brings the possibility of empowerment not only for the pregnant, through the information and the support brought by the presence of the doula, but also for the doula her, by means of connecting herself with other women in order to cope with the iniquities they face.

Physical Education and ethnic-racial identity: reflection of the state of the art in the brazilian publications of Physical Education

The article covers the "state of the art" and it aimed at identifying, in four journals that publish physical education studies, academic productions related to ethnic-racial issues. It made use of the concepts: identity, afro, ethnic, culture and ethnicity. 17 articles were analyzed containing in his/her discussion central ethnic-racial elements. The time frame of the research was from January from 2013 to January from 2018. To facilitate understanding of the articles, the articles were set into blocks according to common themes. The subsequent process was the analysis of the discussion of the concepts, investigating the understanding of the meanings inside each of the listed articles. The separation of the articles into bocks enable the observation of the characteristics and the treatment of the conceptual object. The concepts of identity and ethnicity were identified in all the articles, however without further development in the discussions.

The Function Of “State Personality” In The Criminal Elaboration Of Italian Fascism: laesa maiestas and the technical-legal school in the Rocco Code (1930)

Italian Penal Code of 1930 to the institution of authoritarian and totalizing categories. To this end, it initially seeks to locate the importance of the Code in the fascist itinerary of power imposition. We analyze which functions of criminal law were flexibilized, ignored or attributed. Through the resignification of the expression “laesa maiestas”, we focus the relationship between the new figure of the State in the context of the Penal Code and the displacement of guardianship of recognition of subsequent legal assets, in particular approaching the punitivist turn, that puts the individual as a target and possible threat and no longer as a subject of legal guardianship. Finally, we analyze the tainted institutes of the actual Criminal Code, those in which where there are in a more visibly way reminiscences of this characteristc.
