Elaboration of four concepts in the thought of Trotsky (backwardness; combined and uneven development, permanent revolution, and socialist transition and revolution ) that are useful in understanding developmental theory and their relevance to theories of capitalist development, underdevelopment, and dependency, as prominently manifested in Latin America during the last half of the twentieth century. Identification of Trotskyist movements and their splinter tendencies. Examination of principal theorists and their ideas, with emphasis on Argentine and Brazilian thought and their relevance to developmental theory.

These paper refers to brasilian northeast and focused on one of the INCRA’s office, an state institution that take charge of the named “land reform”. The aim is explorer in this office the perspectives about land occupations, which are organized by differents social movements that look for their inclusion in process of “disappropiation” (carried out by that institution). The ways in which these conflicts are defined show struggles for power, inside and outside the institution, in which the valuation of knowledge about administrative practices become a central factor. The paper shows the bureuacratic views and treatements of struggles for property are inseparable from social relations in that institutional space.

This article looks to discuss how the concept of “invented traditions”, created by the historian Eric Hobsbawm might apply to football. We intend to show how the press and some writers told the story of how Black people were accepted and incorporated into the most popular sport in Brazil. Also we intend to understand why some assumptions have been made in the first half of the twentieth century and became truths recounted by scholars and the press becoming so part of common knowledge and acceptance.

In this article the author traces an analytical profile of socioeconomic conditions of the semi- arid northeast of Brazil with a view to highlighting its structural rigidity to the development. This understood as a process of cultural transformation which incorporates historical trend systematically promoting socioeconomic well-being of the population in a specific area or territory. The semi-arid zone represents about 58% of the regional area, 41% of the population and only 22% of gross domestic product, in addition to periodic droughts that reduce historically, in great measure, agricultural production with dramatic effects mainly on the small and medium producers. Moreover, given the high concentration of rural property and urban, semi-arid region have the worst socioeconomic indicators in the Brazilian context, thus constituting one of the main pillars of resistance to own national development. The overcoming in the medium and long run of this condition of underdevelopment requires consistent and systemic public policies, involving the three levels of government with the effective participation of civil society, and not the specific actions that generally tend to happen.

Choosing as empirical field the village of Taim, in the city of São Luís, in the island of Maranhão, the authors analyse the conflict between the local inhabitants and the administrators of large “development projects” established in the area since the end the 1970’s, as by products of the “Grande Carajás” project. At the center of such conflict lies the fight for the possession and control of territories. Leb by “União de Moradores de Taim”, starting in 1996 various settlements have demanded the creation of an extractive reserve. As a basis for this demand, the residents stress the existence of a way of living which has been ancestrally built, with low levels of environmental aggression and roots on traditional populations.

The present article intend to present a criterion for implantation of technologies destined to desalinated the drinking waters reservoirs that provide the cities of the state of Ceará affected by high levels of salt. Considering the hypothesis, demonstrated in this article, that there is a strong correlation between the socioeconomics conditions and the level of salt of the water that supplies the population of the cities, a socioeconomic criterion was chosen. Applying the technique of factorial analysis for the method of the main components to analyze socioeconomic and environmental variables, it could be arrange the cities in hierarchy order according to its needs of receive desalination equipment.

Through this article an analysis about the standard of recruitment of “local elites” in Maranhão is done. Information from the database of the Supreme Electoral Court concerning the winning candidates for the post of Mayor in 2008 were used. Added to that the carrying out of more detailed studies about municipal scenarios of electoral competition (São Luís, Caxias, Pinheiro and Lago da Pedra), focusing on the cases of four mayors and relating their profile data (social origins and political careers) to the tactics used in the campaigns. In depth interviews with candidates and members of their teams were examined as were materials of electoral propaganda (TV programs, fliers, jingles etc.) and also observation of events to mobilize the electorate.

This study aimed at analyzing the competitiveness of cut plants and flowers export toward the international market from 1998 to 2004, by using a set of tools meant to indicate the trends of the exportings. The results confirmed the competitiveness of the exporting of ornamental products facing the global market. It was observed, however, that great exporters, such as Italy, Belgium, United States, German, and France, are not always strongly competitive. The most competitive parts were Equator, The Netherlands, Colombia, and Denmark. From those. Equator presented the highest increase in competitiveness, while the others presented a decrease. Despite the fact that Brazil does not figure among the greatest exporters, it stood out as a strong competitor, with increasing exporting rates.

The objective this paper is to analyze the relationships in the prices on the tomatoes wholesale market prices of Fortaleza (CE), Ibiapaba (CE), Recife (PE) e Salvador (BA). Time series methods were used: unit root test, Johansen co-integration test, VAR models, and variance decomposition of prediction error and impulse response function. The results showed that the prices of Fortaleza influencies the wholesale market of Ibiapaba (CE), Recife (PE) e Salvador (BA).
