Play as a child language: contemporary contributions

This theoretical study presents a bibliographical survey about the theoretical contributions of the freudo-lacanian psychoanalytic clinic regarding the psychic constitution and the function of playing as a modality of fantasy. The objective was to carry out a dialogue between the writings of Freud and Lacan with the ideas of contemporary psychoanalytic authors who have constructed a knowledge about the psychoanalytic clinic with children. Carried out the bibliographical survey of the works of the authors Ciaccia (2005), Flesher (2012), Kraemer and Betts (1989), Jerusalinsky (2004), Oliveira (2008), Santa-Roza (1993), Souza (1992). The study oriented activities with children’s in a non-governmental institution where play was one of the possible ways to listen to the they, discourse that is produced from the meaning of their experiences in the context of food deprivation and socioeconomic vulnerability. It is believed that the appropriation of psychoanalytic theory about play and its relation to the constitution of the subject can help in the construction of spaces that provide the playful capacity and the produce of creative narratives, so that the subject can express their fantasies and build social bond.

Of the social benefits in psychiatric reform: need, demand and desire

The article discusses inclusive practices in psychosocial care services in order to articulate the granting of social benefits to the dimension of clinical praxis, based on listening to the subject. The context of creation of the field of mental health in Brazil is retaken, emphasizing the importance of the basaglian model for the consolidation of the social movements, which carried out the fight against the asylum model of treatment of the madness and for the social inclusion of the psychiatric patients. Next, we discuss about clinical listening in psychoanalytic theory, in order to assert its development as a fundamental element for institutional work. The psychoanalytic concepts of need, demand and desire are used in the purpose of articulating them to the notion of listening in the substitutive services. Finally, we indicate that the relation between psychoanalysis and mental health implies the belief that is made in the desire, in the emergence of the subject as a result of a clinical work within the institutions, to the extent that this conviction allows us to escape from a certain normalization of the to an acceptable social environment.

Psychologists insertion and work in rural contexts: interpellations to psychology

This study aimed to identify forms of approximation, insertion, and practice of psychologists in the rural context. Participants were six psychologists who work in two Centres of Reference in Social Assistance (CRSA), three itinerant teams from the CRSA and one from the Family Health Support Centre (FHSC), located in three small cities in Piauí. The instruments were participant observation, informal conversations, field diary, semi-structured interviews, which were analysed through thematic content analysis. It was identified that rural, as a theoretical category and form of representation, was invisible in participants’ speech. Furthermore, the difficulties reported regarding professional insertion were more related to work conditions in social policies than to the rural environment. It was also possible to verify, a lack of planning and interventions for the specificities of this context. It is concluded that psychologists’ operation in the rural environment requires many debate, and this is a challenging field for the profession.

The researcher-filmmaker and the ethics of shared looks

This article is a result of the researches that I have developed over nearly two decades on the use of audiovisual camera in academic research. The starting point is the claim that the use of the camera as mediation causes an unique intervention in the relationship that is established between the researcher and the research subjects. The goal is to present the methodological principles that have guided the use of audiovisual in academic research, offering support for the definition of the act of researching as building an ethical and aesthetical look. The philosophy of Bakhtin's language, the pioneer debate initiated by Walter Benjamin on the transformation of the art at the time of mechanical reproduction, Coutinho´s documentary film and the theoretical and cinematographic work of Pasolini are the main references.

Notes on the use of visual images in psychology researches

This article has the objective of presenting some reflections about the use of visual images in Psychology researches. In the first part we discuss how Human Sciences, and Photography, which came up in the XIX century, shared the hegemonic view of Sciences based on the positivist assumptions and produced prejudicial theories on individuals or groups considered inferior or deprived of reasoning, just like primitive or savage, criminals and crazy people. In the second part, we propose a discussion about gaze and the anthropological task of searching for what is familiar in strangeness and to consider strange what is familiar in the relation established by the researcher with the other and with himself. In the third part we present some works with qualitative researches in Psychology. In the article we aimed to show how important the interdisciplinary dialogue is, by recognizing experiences in other fields of knowledge and subjects, including non-academic ones such as the photojournalism. Far beyond the technical domain in the use of images, we emphasize the need of critical thinking about ethics in the relation with the other. Eventually, we tried to show how thin are the borders between objectivity and subjectivity, strange and familiar, document and fiction and, also, Science and Arts.

Image in social psychology research: a possible encounter between ethnographic research and documentary film

This article is about an approach between the methods of a documentary film’s production and an ethnographic research, and how these two forms of intellectual production can work together. Starting from an ethnographic research that occurred inside a documentary production, the text discuss the political, ethics and aesthetics characteristics involved in this two process. It told us how was the work in with the field, the conditions of the image’s production and the film editing of the documentary - moments that gives a view about how ethnographic research and documentary film can have similar ways in their course. The field experience dialogue with the theory of anthropologists like José Magnani and Massimo Canevacci and with the cinema’s theorists Jean-Louis Comolli and Eduardo Coutinho. This theories help us to see how possible is the approach and the reciprocity between an artistic and an academic production.

Cinema, subjectivity, and society: the seventh art in the production of knowledge. An experience at the Federal University of São Paulo

The extension project “Cinema, Subjectivity and Society: the seventh art in the production of knowledge”, on the campus Santos, in Federal University of São Paulo, uses the cinematic language in the investigation of phenomena connected with the different subjective configurations present in contemporary times. Activities are developed in partnership with several projects of the university and devices in town. The project seeks to address relevant issues, understanding cinema as an important methodological tool in questioning of concepts that the subject has of itself and its socio-cultural and political environment. There are several techniques: participatory construction of teaching strategies, qualitative research and extension; filmic research; film screenings and debates with guests; production of audiovisual. This article aims to address how the proposed activities have been able to achieve their goals and the results show concern for social issues such as public education, human rights and social movements, in a cross-disciplinary dimension and partnerships with community initiatives. The findings point to the possibility of new epistemic production methods in conjunction with the audiovisual language, attesting the power of cinema in the production of knowledge and its ability to mobilize around multiple themes.

Operations in wire fragment: photograph, write and cut

These reflections came from the questioning of the research and its deployment as an academic writing with the production of photographs and textual and imaging narratives. This work came from the experimentation with the researches, where the image productions and written imaging narratives was developed through texts production workshops and photographs from the discussion about the relationship between words and images. The workshop happened in four stages, with written letters, which were photographed and cut, generating new textual constructs. The technique of cutup was the reference to propose the textimage as a fragment to form new writtenimage. Foucault and Deleuze indicated support for thinking the lines of visibility and the similitude relations operating between words and images. Also the operation essay, suggested by Jorge Larossa and Adorno, where thinking, writing and living create reciprocal links. Such experimentation led the boundaries between images and words, creating imagetexts, transcending their visual content as well as words that show imagefragments. Considering the research with pictures and writing challenges, It was evident the unique style of the details that only by cutting operation, can claim their visibility.

Memory and online social networks: image mediatization in autobiographical recollection and narratives

The study of memory and self-narratives and how they link to the production and reception of images constitutes a challenge, especially nowadays, as we try to understand these processes in digital platforms. This research focuses on the relationship between digital photos and autobiographical memory in social network sites. The purpose was to study how personal photos and their texts shared on Facebook participate in the production of autobiographical memory. We aim to understand how the new forms of producing images, particularly those addressed for online sharing, operate in the way memories of a lived moment are built. We applied a semi-structured questionnaire to 31 Facebook users invited at Facebook (public profiles), aged 18-24, from both sexes, covering topics about photography and memory. The photographs and texts were selected by the participants and the data was codified and analyzed. The article discusses in more detail one photograph and its correspondent text and also a collage of photos from the corpus. Among the findings, we have identified happiness as an imperative, normalizing and perpetuating culturally dominant modes of seeing and being online, which shape the types of memory artifacts to be held and the content worthy to be remembered.

Selfie and critical theory: considerations on the work with images in psychology

Nowadays, image has become an important part of individual’s life. This fact gets obvious on selfie phenomenon. On that, individuals self-portrait themselves in many situations to share those contents at social media. Images become, therefore, relevant to contemporary man’s comprehension, in other words, they become relevant to the comprehension of a subjectivity that constitutes itself on screen – computer’s screen, smartphone’s screen etc. We ask ourselves: how psychology’s research has occupied itself with such delicate work as an image reading? In this paper, we seek to explore image investigation’s possibilities through the theoretical methodological base of Frankfurt’s School Critical Theory. We choose to refer to selfies, because they are paradigmatic at web’s nowadays’ image production. We will approach theoretical methodological aspects on selfie reading and elaborate on image analysis’ challenges. We will point possible paths on this challenges’ handling through Critical Theory. As result, its appropriation by Psychology propitiates practical sense to theoretical work and ameliorations to theory through praxis. Still, Critical Theory foments an accurate look to social whole’s revealing details, allowing the researcher to drift as Benjamin’s flanêur into now’s transience.

Emotional regulation and emotional work in the care of users of SUS units in Bahia

The study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of emotional regulation strategies on the perception of emotional work of attendants proposing that reappraisal is more used than suppression (H1), reappraisal predicts the use of deep action (H2), suppression predicts the use of superficial action (H3) and genuine emotions are less used than superficial action and deep action (H4). 260 participants responded to the questionnaire of emotional regulation and emotional labor scale. To test the hypothesis we used the t test paired measurements. The hypotheses H2 and H3 were evaluated by linear regression analysis. The prevalence of use of reappraisal and genuine emotions, corroborating the H1 and H4 refuting. Reappraisal predicts the use of deep action, confirming H2. Suppression does not predict the surface action, refuting H3. We conclude that participants base their emotional work in the adaptive use of deep action. They also use spontaneous emotions, signaling there is a convergence between what you feel and what is expected of professional practice.

On the encounters between psychology, research and photography: inventive essays

Writing a review is like contemplating a work of art, we look for itthat affects us, that somehow makes ussee, hear and feel in another way.We focus on what caught our attention, somehow. Iconography in research and intervention of psychosocial processes

Discusses the iconography as a methodological tool for research and psychosocial intervention from Vygotsky’s concepts of imagination and creation. Describes the construction of an iconographic collection (drawings, photographs and videos), produced in research with children and young people from coastal communities. The method identified, cataloged, described and interpreted images produced in psychosocial research and interventions of the Research Group between 2007 and 2012. The inventory resulted in 72 drawings, 127 photos and 42 videos. The results indicate the use of method as self-images (drawings and photographs), actions recording (videos and photographs) and private collection (photographs). The content analysis based on the concepts of imagination and creation identified children’s drawings as expression of the reality of everyday life; the photographs demonstrate the spatial, historical and cultural appropriation of elements within the community and the protagonism of children and youth in the communitarian context; the videos adds motion and audio to the identified processes at the productions of drawings and photographs. In conclusion, the iconographic instruments potentiate research and interventions with children and youth; imagetic creation enables the objectification of imagination and the expression of subjectivities.
