Stimulus to rooting of Saccharum sp. mini-cuttings with talc indole-butyric acid

Sugarcane is a commercially important species for sugar and biofuel production and because of the high demand for plant material in planting, new means of propagation are being developed and require improvements. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of indole-butyric acid (IBA) applied in the form of talc on the initial growth and emergence of sugarcane mini-cuttings used for the system of pre-sprouted plantlets (PSP). Mini-cuttings were treated with concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA in the form of talc and evaluated for emergence and initial growth. There was no difference between IBA concentrations for the physiological, biometric and dry mass variables analyzed. The sugarcane plantlets formed had emergence above 89%, functional photosynthetic apparatus, 4.4 leaves on average, stem diameter of 11.90 mm, shoot length of 12.18 cm, leaf area of 108.81 cm² and root area of 142.17 cm². Shoot dry mass and root dry mass were equal to 2.27 and 1.20 grams, respectively. Thus, concentrations of up to 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA applied in the form of talc in sugarcane mini-cuttings had no effect on rooting and initial growth of plantlets.

Evaluation of bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity in raw, cooked immature cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) cultivars and their cooking broths

Beans are one of the most produced foods in the entire national territory, with an intense search for productive cultivars with good culinary characteristics. In view of the growing concern of consumers with the diet, the positive implications of functional foods for health and the benefits of beans for the organism, the objective of this study was to verify the content of bioactive compounds and the antioxidant capacity of eight common bean cultivars. cowpea, before and after cooking, as well as in their respective broths. From the samples, the concentrations of ascorbic acid, chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were determined, and the data obtained were compared using the Tukey test at the 5% probability level. As a result, it was observed that the cultivar Costela de Vaca had the highest concentrations of chlorophyll and carotenoids before and after cooking. There was an increase in the concentration of flavonoids and a reduction in the ascorbic acid content after cooking in all evaluated cultivars. The cultivar BRS Marataoã showed the highest concentration of phenolic compounds in the raw grain and, consequently, the highest antioxidant capacity, however with reduced activity after cooking. For cooking broths, BRS Marataoã and Costela de Vaca were the ones that had the greatest capacity to fight free radicals. Although cooking caused changes in the concentrations of bioactive compounds, the cultivars remained with important functional characteristics, recommending the consumption of green cowpea with cooking broth for greater retention of compounds with antioxidant properties.

Zoological Collection: a scientific approach to teaching about arthropods in a public school in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Practical activities are important resources for science teaching, however, the scarcity of biological materials prevents their widespread use in Basic Education. In this context, this study aims to analyze the contribution of the production of a zoological collection to the process of teaching and learning about arthropods in a class with 16 students from the 7th year of a public school in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. It is a laboratory research established through an initial theoretical-practical approach to the content of arthropods, with subsequent collective production of a zoological collection of arthropods (covering collection, assembly and conservation processes). The analysis of the results occurred through observation and recording in a field diary. We obtained 16 specimens of the subphylum Chelicerata, seven specimens of Myriapoda, two specimens of Crustacea and 38 specimens of Hexapoda. The collection proved to be an efficient material for the teaching process on arthropods, since such a tool is low cost and has the potential to attract students' interest and curiosity. In addition, it brings students closer to the content developed in the classroom, helping to understand morphological, anatomical, physiological and ecological aspects. In addition, it is concluded that it allowed to signal differences and clarify myths, contributing to a meaningful learning and to be used in future classes.

Identification of plant with beekeeping potential from beehive monitoring systems in the Santa Catarina state, Brazil

The characterization of plant species with beekeeping potential, which are present in beekeeping production systems, can bring many advantages. Among the benefits, the choice of the beehives implantation place according to the availability of floral resources in the agroecosystems, allowing to increase the productivity and the quality of honeys and other products from the bees, are highlighted. In this sense, the aim of this work was to collect flowering plant species, which were visited by bees close to beehive monitoring systems, in six agroecological zones of the Santa Catarina state, Brazil. The taxonomic and geographical identification of these species were also carried out. For each sample, its location was registered in order to estimate the route distance taken by the bees, since the location of the hive was fixed. Of the 157 identified samples, 81 species and 68 genera were found in 33 families, with Asteraceae and Fabaceae being predominant. For Asteraceae, the most reported genera were Baccharis, Tithonia, Senecio, and Sphagneticola, while for Fabaceae, the most reported genus was Trifolium. Species such as Sphagneticola trilobata (Asteraceae), Trifolium repens, T. pratense, Cajanus cajan, Vicia sp. (all Fabaceae), Verbena litoralis, Lantana undulata (both Verbenaceae), Raphanus sativus (Brassicaceae), and Clidemia hirta (Melastomataceae) can be considered interesting from an apicultural point of view, as they remained with flowers between the first and last day of sample collection in some regions (~ 60 days). Although the distances between the plants and the beehives have high variability (8 to 1154 m), the distances generally do not exceed 750 m.

Use of resource management techniques to reduce unplanned industrial shutdowns

The relentless pursuit of competitive advantage in the industrial sector contributes to the realization of the importance of controlling primary production resources. This research is based on the high index of idleness generated by the lack of essential resources for the manufacture of the product, linked to the lack of management of these. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the production stoppage rates due to lack of raw material, to propose improvements that ensure clear process fluidity and productivity gains for operators, in addition to helping managers in decision making. It is characterized as a case study through direct observation and bibliographic research, in addition to having a mixed approach (quali-quantitative) evidenced by the description of an explanatory research. Data collected in the company were explored to build the solidity of the article, through the numbers of production stops, finished products affected by the lack of material and main items and their respective frequency of absenteeism in the stock. In this way, it was possible to build the ABC curve of finished products and raw materials, allowing the visualization of materials that demand greater attention and care to always keep active in the warehouse, as they are the ones that most rotate in the warehouse. Finally, through the analysis of the information, it is concluded that it is necessary to restructure the material list of the finished products so that it is possible to run the MRP, in addition to the adoption of a routine of rotating inventories based on the ABC Curve of inputs to generate accuracy indexes and ensure control of processes.

Environmental Education from the students' knowledge about Sewage Treatment Plant by Root Zone

Environmental education, in a formal and non-formal environment, is crucial for promoting environmental awareness in the community. Through actions with scientific dissemination, it can be transformative, impacting economic, social and environmental factors. Regarding issues that affect public health and cause environmental impacts, basic sanitation stands out. In Brazil, part of the population is not assisted by a basic sanitation network, resulting in improper effluents disposal and consumption of untreated water. In this sense, sewage treatment by root zone, as a sustainable alternative, has increasingly demonstrated its effectiveness and low cost of implementation, however it is not well known. Thus, this study aimed to use environmental education to disseminate knowledge about the relevance of sewage treatment by root zone. Initially, an online diagnosis was conducted about the knowledge of effluent treatment with high school students from a public school in Paraná. The results revealed that many of the students were unaware of the root-zone technique, making it difficult to assert the answers. Remarkably, it was realized the great need for the development of educational actions on the topic. Thus, an informative Flyer on the theme was created in order to fill some gaps identified with students. Finally, it is suggested that more Environmental Education actions about this theme be implemented, in the most diverse forms of communication, with a view to scientific dissemination and awareness of the population regarding the importance of the correct treatment of effluents, in favor of the preservation, conservation of the environment and quality of life.

Dissension over Covid-19 in Brazilian Social Networks: Isolation, Practices and Origin of the Virus

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic has become emergent and central to communications on social media, in which several perspectives and conceptions intertwine and oppose, sometimes creating rumors and fake news. The message flow of social media can be studied within the theoretical framework of social representations. For this purpose, 300 messages about Covid-19 were gathered: 100 of individual profiles, 100 of governments and 100 fake news. An analysis of thematic content has been conducted on the three corpora. Divergently from the other means of communication, it may be observed that the fake news results are about the Chinese origin of the virus, offer homemade advice for prevention and cure of the virus and are prone to contest social isolation. Messages from individual and governmental profiles are mostly not about the origin of the virus but provide advice on hygiene practices, garbage disposal, physical activities, psychological care and defend social isolation.

Evaluation of the oral hygiene of patients with COVID-19 in a hospital environment

There is sufficient evidence to support a relationship between the severity of periodontal disease and COVID-19 infections. This relationship may be caused by an increase in the immune response mediated by Galectin 3 (Gal-3) and an increase in viral adhesion. Thus, unsatisfactory and poor hygiene conditions determine risk factors in the worsening of the disease. The objective of this study was to analyze the oral hygiene index in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 admitted to the ward of a referral hospital in the metropolitan region of Santa Rita (Paraíba). This study can relate oral inflammatory problems and their outcome in the evolution of patients with COVID-19, contributing to a planning of continuing education actions in oral health care, and to a better evolution of patients with COVID-19. For data collection, a google forms form was used, built by the research team, based on the Oral Hygiene Index in Critical Patients (OHICP), with modifications. In the assessment of the oral hygiene condition of patients with COVID-19, it was observed that 74.1% of the patients presented unsatisfactory and / or precarious oral hygiene. Patients with COVID-19 presented more frequently tongue coating (74.3%), visible biofilm (41.6%) and food remains (35.5%). Poor oral hygiene can aggravate clinical conditions, worsening the outcome regarding the treatment of patients with SARS-CoV-2.

Health Surveillance & planning and evaluation in Family Health Units: A qualitative study

Objective: To analyze the use of Health Surveillance tools by managerial nurses in the planning and evaluation process of Family Health Strategy teams in Northeastern Pará. Methodology: Qualitative study with 7 Nurses of Family Health Units. An interview and analysis using the Bardin and IRAMUTEC methods was performed using the Descending Hierarchical Classification and similarity analysis, producing six lexical classes represented in Dendograma, considering words with significance (p>0.05), according to total frequency (f) and chi-square (x²). Results were expressed in Dendrograma, tree of similarity and cuts of the interviews in matrix frames. Results: We obtained the cleavage of 151 text segments, taking advantage of 76.16%, 5361 words, 633 active, 95 supplementary and average of 35.5 per follow-up. Based on the similarity analysis, the word "No" is perceived as the central nucleus, linked to "Health Surveillance", "Health" and "Action", thus inferring a denial, lack, absence and/or a problematic in the analyzed context. Conclusion: The decentralization of responsibilities between municipalities did not allow performance to meet demands. The non-adherence, in the management and health care models, of the Health Surveillance tools in the Family Health Units of  Northeastern Pará is evident, therefore, the non-adjustment of actions and services in the Family Health Strategy considering local characteristics.

Multiprofessional approach for class III malocclusion rehabilitation with autogenous calvarial bone graft followed by Le Fort 1 osteotomy and implant-supported prostheses – case report

Extensive treatments can eventually be challenging. Even more so when the patient has limitations such as extensive tooth loss and skeletal changes, including overgrowth of the lower jaw. When indicated, these treatments tend to discourage patients due to the history of previous failures. Therefore, in addition to an interdisciplinary dental team composed of oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and prosthodontists, a nutrologist, a speech therapist, and a psychotherapist were involved in the treatment of this case. A 52-year-old female patient, Angle Class III malocclusion, with few teeth and extensive maxillary bone loss, attended the dental clinic of the Brazilian Association of Dentistry in Uberlândia. The treatment involved reverse planning, extraction of the dental remnants, calvarial bone grafting, placement of 6 titanium implants (Neodent) in the maxilla (upper jaw) and 5 in the mandible (lower jaw), orthognathic surgery, and installation of implant-supported fixed complete dentures in both jaws. Furthermore, psychotherapeutic and nutrologist’s interventions were necessary during the dental treatment, concluding the treatment with speech therapy. Within the limitations of this case, the multidisciplinary approach proved to be efficient. It promoted the reestablishment of the stomatognathic system functions without compromising nutrition during the periods when it was impossible to wear prostheses for better healing of the tissues.

Production of bio-polyethylene/wood flour biocomposites compatible with PE-g-MA. Assessment of maleic anhydride content in mechanical and thermomechanical properties

The production of ecological materials is being encouraged, aiming to minimize environmental impacts and promote greater sustainability. Therefore, this work aimed to develop bio-polyethylene biocomposites (BioPE)/wood flour (WF), using polyethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PE-g-MA) as a compatibilizer. The biocomposites were prepared in a corrotational twin screw extruder and injection molded. The properties of Izod impact strength, tensile strength, Shore D hardness, Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) and water absorption were investigated. Impact strength improved when biocomposite BioPE/WF was made compatible with PE-g-MA. This increase was more expressive for 10% of PE-g-MA with a high degree of maleic anhydride grafting, indicating a higher level of interaction between the phases. The BioPE/WF/PE-g-MA biocomposites showed improved elastic modulus, tensile strength, Shore D and HDT hardness, compared to the non-compatible biocomposite. An important aspect was the reduction of water absorption for biocomposites compatible with PE-g-MA, suggesting a greater barrier effect for the diffusion of moisture. From the point of view of the degree of grafting of maleic anhydride in PE-g-MA, in general, impact strength was the most sensitive property. The results indicate that wood flour is a waste with the potential to be reused in the development of biocomposites.

Identification of potassium bromate in bread of the french type in the City of Belém-Pará

Potassium bromate (KBrO3) is an oxidizing agent synthesized from bromine with potassium hydroxide, forming a salt with excellent technological and economic results when used in the production of bread, particularly of the French type, as it acts in strengthening the chain of gluten, being possible to incorporate a greater volume of air in the mass, thus improving the final result. However, since 2001, its use in Brazil has been banned, as it was discovered that this salt has a high carcinogenic and genotoxic potential. The analysis of potassium bromate is very important, as it provides information on the bromate residue present in the final product, due to its application in the bakery sector which, despite being illegal, can still be identified, given the advantage of its use in relation to substances legally used for the same purpose. Whether due to lack of inspection, lack of good manufacturing practice or due to soft laws. In this sense, this work aims to identify KBrO3 in French breads in the city of Belém, State of Pará, through experimental qualitative analysis using a direct method. Twenty (20) random samples from supermarkets and bakeries from different neighborhoods were analyzed, of which 17 (seventeen) showed a positive response for the presence of residual bromate. Therefore, it is evident that this additive is still part of the French-type bread production routine putting the consumer's health at risk.

Pathogens in fish from natural and farmed environments in the State of Maranhão: An overview and perspectives for research

In the search for knowledge about fish health, understanding ecological interactions is essential, but for a long time there was neglect in studies on parasites that affect them. The work with fish pathogens in the State of Maranhão is still insufficient and for this reason this work comes with the objective of conducting a survey of scientific researches developed in the period from 2010 to 2020 on those of pathogens in fish from natural environments and from cultivation of this state. The systematic search for scientific articles on the Web of Science, Google Scholar, Pubmed, ASFA, Scopus and SciELO platforms was used as methodological strategies, in the period from 2010 to 2020, in order to gather information on the topic under study. The results were separated by category of etiological agents due to the diversity of classes and different techniques used in the surveys surveyed. The data obtained show that the fish may be affected by ectoparasitic crustaceans, bacterioses, nematodes, protozoa, myxosporids, fungi, monogenoids and viruses, however in Maranhão the research with these fish parasites is still incipient, in this sense the need for more studies on fish health in this region. In addition, detailed studies on the life cycle of parasites and their transmission routes in order to prevent infections, as well as the construction of an action plan with treatment, control and prevention strategies for these pathologies will be of great relevance in future studies and environmentally sustainable.
