Traumatic Bone Cyst - Case report

Traumatic bone cyst (TOC) is a non-neoplastic lesion delimited by a thin layer of loose connective tissue, without an epithelial lining. Its etiology and pathogenesis are uncertain, and trauma is one of the possible factors in the emergence of this intraosseous cyst. The most affected sites are long and gnathic bones. In the gnathic bones, they appear more frequently in the posterior and anterior region of the mandible, they are generally asymptomatic and discovered in routine radiographic exams. The definitive diagnosis of traumatic bone cyst is obtained by analyzing the clinical and radiographic characteristics of the lesion, as well as during the biopsy procedure and histopathological analysis. The objective of this work is to report a clinical case of traumatic bone cyst with post-surgical follow-up.

Epidemiological analysis of respiratory diseases between 2015 to 2020 in brazilian territoy

The Social inequality increases the risk of contagious respiratory diseases. The World Health Organization’s main concern related to respiratory diseases, is the different strains of influenza that can cause pandemics, such as H1N1 in 2009 and COVID-19 in 2020. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the percentages of respiratory diseases (2015-2020)  comparing with H1N1 and COVID-19 in brazilian regions. Hospitalizations and deaths data came from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System, from the Mortality Information System and from the Ministry of Health, which were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and grouping. The results pointed out that most sensitive age groups to develop some respiratory disease, are children and elderly. Among Brazilian regions, the South region stood out with the highest percentages of hospitalizations due to respiratory diseases in the country, while in deaths, the South and Southeast regions approximate their percentages as well as the North and Northeast regions. However, comparing the same information during the COVID-19 pandemic period, deaths in the Midwest are the most significant. On the other hand, in the H1N1 outbreak, the South region once again shows high percentages.

Embedded metacognitive prompts based on the nature of science: Potentialities, limitations, conditions and possibilities

Qualitative research on the possibility of transposition and applicability of the Metacognitive Teaching Strategy (MES) Embedded Metacognitive Prompts Based on Nature of Science. The strategy uses modules with metacognitive commands that direct the study of scientific content based on the nature of science (NDC). The objective was to evaluate the theoretical aspects of primary research, relate them to the description of the steps for its application and evaluate the possibility of its reproduction. We found that NDC, metacognition and self-regulation theories are adequate for protocols and their use in basic education. However, we observed an insufficient explanation for the application of the protocols and the need for articulation between the metacognitive commands, the NDC aspect and the scientific content.

Evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of poultry feed additives with zinc oxide nanoparticles

The presence of pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella spp and Staphylococcus aureus in poultry houses results in huge economic losses, influencing the performance and quality of broiler chicken. These bacteria cause food poisoning due to the consumption of foods containing thermostable enterotoxins produced by them. Studies show that antibiotics used in poultry can cause allergic reactions to humans in addition to increasing bacterial resistance to treatment. Zinc oxide nanoparticles, NPs-ZnO, have been studied because of their excellent antimicrobial potential and because zinc oxide is recognized as a safe substance for consumption at low concentrations. In addition zinc is a micronutrient metabolized by the poultry organism and humans, not being a toxic substance. So the objective of this study was to add antimicrobial properties to poultry feed by the addition of NPs-ZnO and to evaluate antibacterial activity against Gram-negative Salmonella Typhimurium and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Different ratios of NPs-ZnO in the diet (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5%, mg g-1) were evaluated by solid diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration and growth curve. It was found that the concentration of 3% (mg g-1) of NPs-ZnO was the lowest necessary to prevent the growth of studied bacteria being able to be applied in poultry feed to protect them from potential pathogenic bacteria present in the farms.

Bovine manure as a dispersing agent for weeds and invasive alien plants

Fertilization is the act of adding fertilizers to the soil in order to provide essential nutrients for the development of cultivated plants. However, the use of bovine manure can act as a source of weed propagules, including non-native species. Due to the importance and lack of research on the topic, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the seed bank present in bovine manure used by farmers in the municipality of Itabaiana, SE. For that, samples of bovine manure were collected in 10 rural properties in the municipality of Itabaiana, SE. The evaluation of the seed bank was carried out by accounting for emerged seedlings. Usual phytosociological indices were calculated for each species. Altogether 35 species were sampled, of which 28 native and seven non-native. The native species with the highest importance value was Euphorbia hirta, as it has the highest density (AD = 1122 ind.m-²) and is present in 28 sample units. The non-native species with the highest importance value was Eleusine indica, because it has the third highest density (AD = 171.2 m²) and is present in 21 sample units. The obtained results reveal that bovine manure has a high number of weed, which is quite worrying, as they are species that generate important environmental and economic impacts.

Mental stress in elite athletes: A systematic review

Mental stress represents a public health problem and exercise can boost mental health improvement. However, athletes are not immune to mental health challenges, including the high physical demand of elite athletes can negatively influence mental health and cause stress. This relationship of mental stress and elite athletes is still not well understood in reading and receives little attention from researchers. Thus, a systematic review study was carried out with the objective of analyzing the existence and impacts of mental stress in elite athletes. In this review, the following descriptors were used: Stress, Psychological; Athletes; Mental Health; Mental Health Associations. The databases used were PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus in English with articles published in the last five years. After qualitative selection and synthesis, seven studies were included. It was found that mental stress is common in athletes even compared to non-athletes. In the included studies there was a predominance of young women in varied sports, mainly summer sports such as volleyball and athletics. Mental stress seems to be related to training load. Studies with larger samples are needed in different sports to check mental stress in elite athletes with greater methodological rigor.

Current awareness on primary prevention of breast cancer among Unified Health System insured brazilian women

Breast cancer is an important public health problem. Primary prevention seeks to reduce exposure to risk factors and encourages lifestyle changes. This study aims to assess knowledge and sources of information about risk factors for breast cancer among women at a secondary care center in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, whose data collection was performed using a semi-structured questionnaire that included demographic variables (such as age, education, marital status and occupation) and research on information sources, access to information, risk factors and causes of breast cancer. A total of 398 women were included, aged between 35 and 69 years. The main source of information about Breast Cancer was the media, followed by the primary care unit. 79.6% of women have never participated in Pink October activities. Twelve items were listed as possible risk factors for breast cancer, and seven of those were modifiable risk factors. The average number of correct items identified was 1.38 and 1.76, respectively. The most recognized risk factor was family history of breast cancer. Genetics was described as the main cause of the disease. Our data show the limited awareness, as well as the reduced scope of public health actions towards breast cancer health promotion. It demonstrates the urge for reformulation of the breast cancer awareness information until it reaches the target audience. In addition, it is crutial that women assume their individual health responsibility, adopting a better lifestyle.

Evaluation of the maintenance of glycemic levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, correlating with their lifestyle habits

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia. Type 2 diabetes arises when the body does not adequately produce insulin. The objective of the research was to evaluate the maintenance of glycemic levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, correlating these levels with their lifestyle habits. A descriptive, exploratory research was used, using a qualitative-quantitative approach, through the interviews using patient data collection. The study was conducted in a municipal public pharmacy located in the interior of Bahia. The population consisted of 17 patients, male and female. The results based on the orientations made for feeding were not effective. In relation to physical activity, part of the interviewees did not practice any kind of exercise. Among the interferences that hindered adherence were discipline and time, emotional and financial problems. The study identified that 29.41% had a worsening in glycemic control. It was observed that 29.41% of the patients had no change in glycemic control. Of the 17 respondents 41.18% showed improvement in glycemic control. We conclude that despite the contributions some patients still remained unchanged in blood glucose. Others showed improvement. This result may be related to the reports of more discipline, organization of time giving priority to health, or even to those who put into practice at least one of the recommended guidelines. We conclude that diabetes requires changes and new attitudes from both patients and their families in order to prevent further complications.
