This study aimed to learn about the process of communication between the health team and the mothers of newborns under phototherapy in the light of the Humanistic Theory’s presuppositions. It is characterized as a descriptive, qualitative study guided by the Phenomenological Nursing Process implemented with 25 mothers of newborns under phototherapy, in Fortaleza-CE. The data were collected from January to March 2005, with participant observation and interview in two different moments before and after the implementation of an educational program. Out of the speeches extracted from the fi rst phase, it was possible to identify the theme: communication and the subthemes: damaged communication with the health team; lack of communication of the health team and, in the second phase, the subtheme: reactions of the mother after effective communication with the nurse. It was concluded that the effective communication of the nurse contributed for the well-being of the mothers whose child was under phototherapy.

Estudo descritivo com o objetivo de identificar o perfil de engajamento no autocuidado em pessoas hipertensas acompanhadas na Unidade Básica de Saúde da Família. Utilizamos os instrumentos para estabelecer o perfil de engajamento no autocuidado tendo como pressuposto a teoria do autocuidado de Orem. Pesquisadas 31 pessoas, cadastradas no (HIPER/DIA) no ano de 2004. Identificados os requisitos de autocuidado com escore positivo em relação às eliminações; à adaptação às modificações do ciclo vital; à adaptação social; ao conhecimento da doença e tratamento; à aceitação em relação ao diagnóstico; à adaptação ao problema de saúde e às condutas orientadas. Fatores insatisfatórios a ingesta de alimentos e de líquidos; o desequilíbrio entre solidão e interação social; a prevenção de risco à vida e ao bem-estar; a promoção da saúde. Constatamos que dos 31 portadores de hipertensão acompanhados pelo PSF, 16 apresentaram escore bom para o engajamento autocuidado.

This descriptive study aims to verify the engagement profi le in self-care in hypertensive people attended in a Family Health Basic Unit. We used the tools to establish the self-care engagement profi le considering the Orem self-care theory. Thirty one people were registered and searched on the Hyper/Day in 2004. We so identifi ed the self-care requirements with a positive score related to the elimination; the adaptations to the modifi cations of the vital cycle; social adaptation; illness knowledge and its treatment; acceptance to the diagnostic; adaptation to the health problem and to the oriented behavior; poor food and liquid intake; imbalance between loneliness and social interaction; life risk prevention and well-being as well as health promotion. We got to the conclusion that part of the people who have arterial hypertension followed up by FHP have a good self-care engagement considering the performed actions.

O trabalho tem como objetivo verificar as condutas preventivas oferecidas pela atenção básica para o portador de pé diabético internado em hospital de grande porte da cidade do Recife. Estudo de abordagem epidemiológica descritiva, cuja população corresponde aos pacientes internados no período de agosto de 2006 a agosto de 2007, na clínica vascular. Observou-se uma prevalência de 46% de pacientes com idade superior a 65 anos, do sexo masculino, com até 4 anos de estudo e renda de até 1salário mínimo. Se encontrou associação entre ocorrência de amputações e as variáveis: conhecimento do diagnóstico, modo de conhecimento da doença, realização de consultas todo ano após o diagnóstico de DM, controle da glicemia, exame dos pés e orientações referentes ao cuidado dos pés. Os resultados encontrados permitem visualizar a gravidade da complicação pé diabético, bem como apresentam áreas que necessitam de maiores empreendimentos no cuidado prestado pela Atenção Básica.

The paper aims to verify the conduct preventive offered by basic care for the diabetic foot patient admitted in a large hospital in the city of Recife. Study of descriptive epidemiological approach, whose population corresponds to the patients admitted during the period August 2006 to August 2007, in the vascular clinic. There was a prevalence of 46% of patients aged over 65, male, with up to 4 years of schooling and income of up to 1 minimum wage. It found association between occurrence of amputations and the variables: knowledge of diagnosis, the way of knowledge of the disease, hold consultations each year after the diagnosis of DM, control of blood glucose, examination of the feet and guidelines for the care of feet. The results display the severity of diabetic foot complications, and show areas that need of major actions in the care provided by the Primary Care.

O objetivo foi apreender como os familiares compreendem seu papel no tratamento dos pacientes submetidos à hemodiálise e, enquanto sujeitos, visualizam sua participação social. Investigação exploratória, descritiva e de natureza qualitativa. Utilizou-se como instrumento de coleta de dados uma entrevista semi-estruturada e a análise dos dados foi realizada por meio de análise temática. Os familiares referem que se encontram sobrecarregados no cuidado devido à fragilidade da rede de suporte. Com relação à instituição, encontram dificuldades quanto aos recursos materiais necessários e à falta de conforto para aguardar o paciente enquanto em hemodiálise. A equipe de tratamento poderia garantir que os familiares tivessem uma maior participação no espaço de tratamento, visto que permanecem longos períodos de sua vida, vindo a este local; também deveria possibilitar que os mesmos tivessem expandidos seus laços solidários através da inserção de outros membros da família e do apoio social da comunidade.

The objective was to Learn how family members acknowledge their role in the treatment of patients who are submitted to hemodialysis and while subjects how they visualize their social participation. Exploratory, descriptive investigation of qualitative nature. A semi structured interview was used as data collection and the analysis of data was made through thematic analysis. The family members stated that they are overloaded with care due to the fragility of the care net. Regarding the institution they found diffi culties concerning necessary material resources and the lack of comfort to wait for the patient while on hemodialysis. The treatment staff could guarantee that family members had greater participation in the treatment site, given that they spend long periods of their lives coming to this place, and also allow the family to expand their solidary bonds through the insertion of other family members and the social support of the community.

A insuficiência respiratória aguda é uma das situações que pode levar a criança a intubação traqueal. Objetivou-se analisaras complicações da ventilação mecânica em crianças de uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Pediátrica. Estudo transversal, quantitativo, com amostra de 72 crianças em suporte ventilatório. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um formulário de setembro a dezembro de 2006, sendo apresentados em tabelas e gráficos. Nos resultados, as complicações mais freqüentes foram a extubação acidental e a intubação seletiva A média de ventilação mecânica foi de 21 dias e 4 horas. Concluímos que a assistência à VM ainda representa um desafio para os profissionais, que devem buscar alternativas para minimizar as complicações relacionadas ao cuidado prestado à criança grave.

The acute respiratory insuffi ciency is one of the situations that may lead children to tracheal intubation. One aimed to analyze the complications of mechanical ventilation in children of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Transversal, quantitative study, with sample of 72 children in ventilatory support. The data were collected through a form from September through December, 2006, being presented in charts and graphics. In the results the most frequent complications were accidental extubation and selective intubation. The mechanical ventilation average was 21 days and 4 hours. We concluded that the assistance to the MV still represents a challenge for professionals who look for alternatives to minimize complications related to the care directed to the seriously ill child.

El exceso de peso es, actualmente, una condición que predispone los adolescnetes a varias enfermedades crónicas en el futuro. Así, el objetivo fue detectar casos de sobrepeso y obesidad en adolescentes de escuelas particulares de la ciudad de Fortaleza. Han sido investigados 307 estudiantes entre 12 y 17, en los meses de marzo y junio de 2007, mediante la aplicación de una encuesta en que se registraron las caracterísiticas socio y demográfi cas, el peso, la estatura y el Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC). Los resultados señalaron que 41,4% de los adolescentes tenían entre 14 y 15 años, 51,5% se quedaban en la enseñanza media, 55,4% eran del sexo femenino y 23,2% se quedaban con el IMC arriba del normal. De eses, 19,9% tenían sobrepeso, 3,3% obesidad, 12,9% eran del sexo masculino y 11% se encontraban con la edad entre 12 y 13 años. En ese contexto, el enfermero debe implementar acciones de intervención y prevención como la educación en salud, detección precoz de casos de exceso de peso.

Nowadays overweight is a condition that prepares adolescents to several chronical diseases in the future. Thus, the objective was to fi nd out overweight and obesity cases in private schools’ adolescents from Fortaleza. 307 students between 12 and 17 years of age were investigated in the months of March and June of 2007, by means of a form application in which socio-demographic features, weight, height, Body Mass Rate (BMR) were recorded. Results highlighted that 41,4% of adolescents were between 14-15 years old, 52,1% attended highschool, 55,4% belonged to the female gender and 23,2% had an above normal BMR. Out of these, 19,9% were overweight, 3,3% were obese, 12,9% belonged to the male gender and 11% were between 12-13 years old. In this context, the nurse should implement intervention and prevention actions such as education in health and early detection of overweight cases.

A criança com mielomeningocele apresenta necessidades especiais que requerem cuidados familiares contínuos. O objetivo foi conhecer as vivências das famílias no cuidado da criança portadora de mielomeningocele. Estudo com abordagem qualitativa realizado com quinze famílias em julho de 2006 por meio de entrevistas semi-estruturadas. As categorias de análise foram: Necessidades da mãe/família na busca de cuidados à saúde da criança; Necessidades e cuidados especiais da criança na vida diária; (In)satisfação da família e sentimentos de conformação. Os resultados denotam que as necessidades das crianças/famílias se estendem, principalmente, aos problemas físicos, psicossociais e financeiros. A insatisfação é gerada pelos transtornos no atendimento e pela falha na comunicação. Concluímos que, para minimizar as adversidades provocadas pela doença e promover o acolhimento das famílias, são necessárias intervenção interdisciplinar com apoio institucional; ações de melhoria no cuidado e aproximação da integralidade proposta pelo Sistema Único de Saúde.

The child with meningomyelocele presents special needs that require continuous familiar cares. The objective was to know the needs felt by family in relation to care with the child porter of meningomyelocele. Study with qualitative approach done with fi fteen families in July 2006 through interviews semi-structured. The categories of analysis were: Needs of mother/family in search of cares to child health; Needs and special cares of child in daily life; (In) satisfaction of family and feelings of conformation. The results shown that the needs of children/family extended mainly to physical, psychosocial and fi nancial problems. The non-satisfaction is created by troubles in attendance and by failure in communication. We concluded, to minimize the adversities provoked by disease and promote the sheltering of families are necessary interdisciplinary intervention with institutional support: actions that promote betterment in care and approximation of integrality proposed by Only System of Health.

O estudo teve o objetivo de compreender as atitudes do homem durante o processo de parturição da companheira. Os dados foram obtidos através de entrevista semi-estruturada junto a 10 homens que acompanharam o nascimento de seus filhos. Essa etapa ocorreu em duas maternidades no município de Natal – RN no ano de 2004, as quais adotam o princípio da humanização da assistência. Os depoimentos foram tratados conforme o método de análise de conteúdo segundo Bardin. Desse processo emergiram três categorias: atendendo às necessidades da companheira, presença do companheiro na sala de parto e atitudes de agradecimentos, analisadas a luz do interacionismo simbólico conforme Blumer. Os resultados evidenciaram que os homens interagem com suas mulheres e respondem com atitudes de cuidados, ajuda, apoio e encorajamento. Constatamos que as atitudes do pai na sala de parto, são influenciadas mediante a interação dele, com os profissionais que assistem a sua companheira no parto.

This study aimed at understanding the man’s attitudes during the process of parturition of his partner. Data were obtained through a semi-structured interview along to 10 men that accompanied the birth of their children. This step took place in two maternity hospitals in Natal-Rn city in 2004, which adopted the principle of humanization. The statements were treated in ance with to the method of content analysis by Bardin. From this process emerged three categories: taking into account the needs of partner, presence of the husband in the delivery room and gratitude attitudes. That were analyzed with the tenets of Symbolic Interactionism by Blumer. Results showed that men interact with their wives and respond with care attitudes, helping, supporting and encouragement. We note that the father’s attitudes in the delivery room, under the light of symbolic interactionism, tend to be infl uenced by his interaction with professionals who assist the woman and her partner in the delivery room.

Há mais de duas décadas, o mundo convive com a aids. Com o passar dos anos, muito se descobriu sobre formas de transmissão, terapias medicamentosas mais eficazes, marcadores laboratoriais mais precisos, imunogenicidade. Ainda é evidente, entretanto, o estigma vivenciado em decorrência da descoberta da doença. Esta é a sínete ou impressão a sinalizar que a pessoa está marcada e rejeitada; assim, portar um estigma, implica possuir uma característica não aceita pela sociedade. 

It has been more than two decades that the world has lived with the HIV. Within the passing years we’ve learned a lot about ways of transmission, more efficient medical treatments, more accurate laboratory results, immunity, and so on. It’s still evident, however, the stigma experienced with the discovery of the disease. That signalizes that the person is stamped and rejected. To carry a stigma means to carry a characteristic not accepted by the society. Based on this fact, those people have gone through many embarrassing situations and their chances of living a normal life have been reduced. 

The humanized care has been the object of study in various scenarios of nursing care to a person regardless of their age. It is observed between the pairs, one facing speech for respect for the human being as a holistic being, integral and endowed with values, beliefs and feelings that must be respected. But, still seeking the effectiveness of these principles in everyday practice in environments that reflect the practice of customer care.

Man is a being that itself demands need for communication, interaction with the environment, affection, caring, search and knowledge production. In the process of evolution that reflects the mental maturity, personal, social and political, we face situations that sometimes encourages us positively to the continuum learn and refine knowledge, sometimes we feel inert or powerless in the movements and political spaces and social that direct the attitudes and behaviors of groups that make up our society.

Trata-se de um estudo descritivo sobre a construção de um instrumento de coleta de dados elaborado com base nos diagnósticos da Taxonomia II da NANDA e norteado pelo Modelo de Atividade de Vida de Roper-Logan-Tierney. Seu objetivo é descrever a construção e aplicação de um instrumento de coleta de dados para a Sistematização da Assistência de Enfermagem em um serviço de consulta de Enfermagem em ginecologia para prostitutas. O instrumento foi aplicado em 57 mulheres prostitutas atendidas no Centro de Parto Natural da Universidade Federal do Ceará, em maio de 2007. Os resultados mostraram que o instrumento construído foi adequado, pois, possibilitou a identificação de diagnósticos gerais e específicos da população em estudo, bem como a identificação das atividades de vida mais afetadas. A elaboração do instrumento direcionou a Sistematização da Assistência em Enfermagem de acordo com a identificação das necessidades peculiares das prostitutas, tornando-a mais adequada e eficaz.
