The process of communication of the health team with the mother whose child is under phototherapy is fundamental so that she can calm down and become acquainted with the treatment. The thesis defended in this research is that the communication permeated by the Nursing humanistic care will contribute to the mother of the newborn under phototherapy come to know, understand the treatment and this way be well and be – better. We aimed to analyze the communication with mothers of newborns under phototherapy through the Phenomenological Nursing Process of the Paterson and Zderad’s Humanistic Theory. Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study, instrumentalized through the mentioned process, in five stages: the preparation of the nurse to come to know; the nurse knows intuitively the other; the nurse knows scientifically the other; the nurse synthesizes in a complementary way the known realities; the internal succession of the nurse starting from many to an only paradoxical. It had as environment a public maternity hospital in Fortaleza-CE. 

Avaliamos os resultados do Projeto Amor à Vida no município de Jaguaribe-CE que vem sendo anunciado como indutor na implantação da política de saúde do adolescente, com ênfase na promoção da saúde. Objetivos: avaliar o resultado do Projeto Amor à Vida junto aos profissionais de saúde, educação e assistência social, após oito anos de implantação, tendo por base os princípios centrais da promoção da saúde; traçar o perfil dos profissionais participantes do projeto no município; investigar a adesão dos profissionais quanto aos objetivos e à metodologia proposta pelo projeto; identificar, nas atividades dos profissionais, as estratégias adotadas para articulação de ações intersetoriais. 

With a glance of eyes in the summaries of the various volumes of our journal, and even in much of the specialized nursing publications in Brazil, we see the extent of the problems and issues that mobilize nurses in conducting research. Population aging, the persistence of many chronic diseases that had no satisfactory solution, the increasing sensitivity of our professionals for their poor working conditions, for the suffering they experience and witness users and families to experience when the serious illness, hospitalization or death of their neighbors are factors that evidently mobilized the authors of this volume in conducting their research.

We evaluated the results of the “Amor à Vida” Project in the city of Jaguaribe – Ceará, because it has been announced as an inductor for implanting the adolescent health policy, focusing on health promotion. Objectives: to evaluate the results of the “Amor à Vida” Project with health, education and social assistance to professionals, after eight years of implantation, observing if its practices show clearly the central health promotion principles; trace the profile of the professionals that participate on the project; investigate the professionals adhesion to the objectives and methodology proposed by the project and identify, among the professionals activities, the strategies adopted to articulate intersectorial actions. Scenery of the study: 02 middle level schools, 03 basic health units and 01 psychosocial assistance center. The population of the study was: 14 teachers, 03 school administrators, 03 doctors, 03 nurses, 02 nurse auxiliaries and 01 social assistant. 

Estudo qualitativo desenvolvido em Natal/RN junto a 13 homens cujos filhos estavam em lactação natural. Teve como objetivo verificar a opinião do pai acerca do aleitamento materno. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevista semi-estruturada e tratados seguindo a técnica de análise temática proposta por Bardin. Os pais atribuíram importâncias à lactação, relacionando-as ao filho e a companheira. Com relação à criança, constatamos conhecimentos acerca dos benefícios do leite materno como um alimento nutritivo, que promove o crescimento-desenvolvimento infantil, determina a saúde atual e estabelece o vínculo entre mãe-filho. Quanto à companheira, os entrevistados referiram que a amamentação, além de contribuir para o estabelecimento do vínculo afetivo entre o lactente e a genitora, também favorece a realização da maternidade. Portanto, afirmamos que os pais demonstram opiniões positivas acerca da amamentação, os quais podem favorecer a promoção e contribuir para o sucesso do aleitamento natural.

No dia 24 de novembro de 2006, comemoramos 12 anos da criação da Rede de Enfermagem do Nordeste – RENE através do Termo Aditivo ao Convênio de Protocolo de Integração das Instituições de Ensino Superior do Nordeste Brasileiro – PINE, que já associava, desde 1991, as universidades brasileiras nordestinas. Na mesma data assina-se também o 1º Adendo ao Termo Aditivo e se cria o Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem da Rede de Enfermagem do Nordeste – PROPRENE. A finalidade era a articulação das unidades de ensino da área de enfermagem da Região Nordeste para o desenvolvimento da enfermagem e da pós-graduação.

On November 24, 2006, we celebrate 12 years of the creation of the Northeastern Nursing Network - RENE through the Addendum to the Integration Protocol Agreement of Higher Education Institutions of the Brazilian Northeast - PINE, already associated since 1991, northeastern universities. On the same date is signed also the 1st Addendum to Addendum and creates the Graduate Program in Nursing at Northeastern Nursing Network - PROPRENE. The purpose was the articulation of teaching units of the Northeast nursing area for the development of nursing and graduate.

This is a qualitative study  which was developed in Natal/RN with 13 men whose children were in natural breast-feeding. The study had the objective of verifying the father’s opinion concerning breast-feeding. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews following a thematic analysis technique proposed by Bardin. The fathers attributed importance to breast-feeding relating it to the baby and the mother. Concerning the child, we verified the benefits of maternal milk as a nutritious meal that promotes the infantile growth and development. It also determines the current health and promotes a strong bond of love between the mother and her baby. Concerning the mother, the interviewees stated that breast-feeding, besides contributing to establish an affective bond between the baby and its mother, also accomplishes maternity. Therefore, we affirm that parents demonstrated positive opinion concerning breast-feeding which may contribute to the success of the natural breastfeeding.

Estudo exploratório com abordagem quantitativa visa avaliar os problemas de ordem ergonômica nas trabalhadoras de Enfermagem de nível médio do Centro Obstétrico de um hospital-escola, em Fortaleza-CE, em junho de 2003. A amostra constou de 22 auxiliares e duas técnicas de Enfermagem, todas do sexo feminino, jovens, com pouca experiência no setor. Foram entrevistadas por um questionário semi-estruturado que identificou o desempenho profissional e as dificuldades no trabalho. Constatamos que a inexistência do local de repouso (96%), a falta de maqueiro (67%), de transporte de pacientes (62%), a necessidade de descanso (62%) e a falta de material de consumo (25%) foram as maiores dificuldades. A prática laboral diária das trabalhadoras de Enfermagem de nível médio envolve desgaste físico, afetando a saúde e a qualidade de vida. A análise ergonômica torna possível o reconhecimento da realidade do homem e sua interação no trabalho, contribuindo para a satisfação do trabalhador e a prevenção das psicopatologias. 

Uma forma de reduzir a grande incidência das IST/aids entre adolescentes é o diálogo dos pais como forma de aconselhamento, prevenção e educação sexual. Esta pesquisa objetivou investigar a compreensão dos pais quanto ao risco de uma infecção por IST/AIDS em seus filhos adolescentes. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo e exploratório, realizado com pais de adolescentes de uma escola pública de Fortaleza-Ceará-Brasil, que teve como instrumento de coleta de dados um questionário. Evidenciamos no estudo que os pais demonstraram certo conhecimento acerca das IST/AIDS, no entanto fatores impediram o diálogo com seus filhos. Conclui-se que a mulher é a grande responsável pela educação sexual dos filhos e que ainda não encara IST/aids como problema, o que resulta em pouco diálogo acerca sexo/sexualidade entre pais e filhos. 

A Dialogue between parents and children as a way to advise, prevent and educate them about sex is a great method to reduce the incidence of STD/AIDS. The aim of this descriptive and exploratory research is to investigate parent’s understanding towards the risk their adolescents run of getting a STD/AIDS infection. It took place in a public school in Fortaleza-Ceará-Brazil and the data was collected from the teenagers’ parents through questionnaires. The results showed that the parents knew a little about STD/AIDS; however they didn’t feel comfortable discussing sexual concerns with their children. In conclusion, women are the great responsible for the sexual education of their children and still don’t face STD/AIDS as a problem, what results in lack of dialogue about sex/sexuality between parents and children. 

Residir em um asilo pode decorrer da qualidade das relações familiares; da falta de recursos próprios, do alto grau de dependência, da falta de referências devido a morte das pessoas significativas para o idoso. Outrossim, residir com a família não impede de o idoso estar em situação semelhante ao asilado quando nos referimos ao contexto social e familiar. Os objetivos do estudo foram: avaliar o percentual de idoso que sugerem transtornos depressivos e a relação entre o espaço de vida do idoso e a presença de indicadores de depressão. Estudo descritivo, correlacional; realizado em 3 ancionatos e dois grupos de convivência de idosos. Foi aplicado a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica. Os resultados demonstraram que em aspectos significativos da vida do idoso os participantes de grupos estão com indicativos maiores de depressão geriátrica que os asilados. Concluímos que as ações direcionadas aos idosos dever estar alertas para este dado extremamente significante para a qualidade de vida do idoso e para sua permanência no ambiente familiar. 

Living in institutions for the elder may be a result of the low quality of life or family relations. Also, for the lack of their own resources, high dependence, lack of references caused by the death of people who were meaningful for them. However, living at home may prevent the elder from being in the same situation of the institutionalized when we refer to social and family context. The aim of this study was to evaluate the percentage of elderly people that suggest depressive disturbs and the relation between the elder life time and the presence of depression indicators. Correlational descriptive studies were accomplished in 3 institutions as well as in two groups of elderly people who had close companionship. The Depression Geriatric Scale was applied and the results demonstrated that in meaningful aspects of elderly life, the ones who are participants in group activities have more indications of geriatric depression than the institutionalized ones. We conclude that the actions led to the elder must include this extremely meaningful fact to the life quality of the elder ant to his/her staying in the family environment.  

Encarar a morte para os enfermeiros ainda gera muitas dificuldades, tornando-os angustiados por faltar habilidade para encarar este processo. Neste estudo, buscou-se identificar a compreensão do enfermeiro que trabalha em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) acerca do processo morte e o vivenciar da morte de pacientes. Utilizou-se a metodologia exploratória descritiva, através da técnica de entrevista aplicada a oito enfermeiras, sendo quatro ligadas a instituições públicas e quatro ligadas a serviços privados de grande porte, todos localizados no município de Fortaleza, no ano de 2002. A análise das convergências das falas permitiu a identificação de algumas unidades de significação como: compreendendo a morte, vivenciando e lidando com a morte do paciente. O trabalho subsidiará a prática dos docentes de cursos de graduação em enfermagem, levando-os a repensar a importância da introdução da tanatologia, como objeto de discussão permanente durante o processo de formação profissional. 

It is still very difficult for nurses to face death and this fact has made them feel worried, due to their lack of ability to deal with this process. The aim of this study was to identify the understanding of the nurse who in the Intensive Care Unit (UTI), about the death process and the experiencing of patients’ death. The exploratory descriptive methodology was used, through the interview technique applied to eight nurses, four of which worked in public institutions and four, in private service companies, all located in the city of Fortaleza in 2002. The analysis of the speeches convergence allowed the identification of some meaning units such as: understanding death, experiencing and dealing with patients’ death. This study will contribute to the practice of nursing undergraduate courses’ professors, leading them to rethink the importance of tanatology as a permanent subject of discussion, during the professional formation process. 

This is an exploratory study with quantitative approach that aims to evaluate the ergonomics related problems of high school level nursing workers, from the obstetric centre of a teaching hospital, in Fortaleza-Ce, during the month of June, 2003. The sample was composed by twenty two auxiliaries and two nursing technicians, all of them young women with little experience in the area. The interview was conducted with a semi-structured questionnaire which identified the professional performance and the difficulties at work. We noticed that the lack of a resting place (96%), the lack of stretcher-bearer (67%), the difficult transport of the patients (62%), resting need (62%) and the lack of material (25%) are the biggest difficulties. The high school level nursing workers daily labour practice, involves physical wear and tear, affecting their health and quality of life. The ergonomics analysis facilitates the recognition of man reality and their interaction with the workers. It also contributes to preserve workers satisfaction and to prevent psychopathologies. 

Na contemporaneidade, a temática da morte foi paulatinamente excluída do âmbito sócio-cultural e, particularmente, da formação e prática dos profissionais de saúde, especialmente Enfermeiros e Médicos. Nesse contexto, o estudo objetivou identificar as significações desses profissionais sobre a situação na qual, no hospital, se materializa o processo de morrer, ou seja, o óbito hospitalar. Para tanto, segundo a análise do conteúdo do discurso e deste, enquanto prática de produção de sentido, categorizou-se e se interpretou um conjunto de 34 entrevistas semi-estruturadas de Enfermeiros (17) e Médicos (17). Os resultados evidenciaram que: (a) a formação, na graduação, exclui a abordagem dos aspectos psicossociais do óbito, (b) a relação com a família do paciente em óbito é significada como de envolvimento ou distanciamento e (c) a relação com o paciente é significada como de aceitação, defesa ou mobilização afetiva. Espera-se contribuir para a humanização da vivência do óbito hospitalar. 

Nowadays, death has been slowly excluded from the social and cultural scope and, particularly, from the background and practice of health professionals, especially Nurses and Doctors. This paper aimed at identifying the meaning of these professionals concerning the situation in which the process of dying in the hospital is materialized. Therefore, considering the discourse content and its analysis as a practice of meaning production, it categorized. Therefore, considering the discourse content and its analysis as a practice of meaning production, it categorized and interpreted a group of 34 semi-structured interviews with Nurses (17) and Doctors (17). Results showed that: (a) university education excludes the approach of the psychosocial aspects of death; (b) the relationship with the dying patient’s family is understood as involvement or distancing and (c) the relationship with the patient is understood as acceptance, defense or affective mobilization. We hope that this work will somehow contribute to the humanization while experiencing death in hospitals. 

O objetivo desse estudo foi realizar um levantamento dos artigos publicados e disponíveis para a pesquisa na base de dados SCIELO sobre o tema vacinação. O estudo foi de caráter descritivo, baseado na consulta à base de dados SCIELO, onde buscamos os artigos que tinham associação com o tema escolhido. Foram encontrados 217 artigos e destes, após lidos, 87 foram selecionados. As categorias criadas foram: estudos experimentais, estudos bibliográficos e outros. As categorias “Estudos experimentais” e “Estudos bibliográficos” foram divididas em três subcategorias nomeadas de forma homônima em eficácia de vacinas, biotecnologia e prevenção. Concluímos que a pesquisa apontou temas de caráter bastante diversificado, com muitos trabalhos referentes a estudos experimentais. 

The aim of this study was to select the articles which were available for the research in the database SCIELO on the theme vaccination. The research is of the descriptive king, based on inquiry to the database SCIELO, where we looked for the articles which were associated with the chosen theme. 217 articles were found and, after being read, 87 were selected. The categories which were created were: experimental as well as bibliographical studies and others. The categories “experimental Studies” and “Bibliographical Studies” were divided in three subcategories nominated as homonymous as far as effectiveness of vaccines, biotechnology and prevention are concerned. We got to the conclusion that the research aimed at quite diversified themes, with several kinds of works referring to experimental studies.
