In The Whole World as Strange Place, an essay-like work, Canclini approachesmany cultural aspects of the contemporaneity in times of social decomposition. The structures that we believed to be stable and the theories we considered to explain the social realities no longer stand in a world in which actors are connected to socio technical networks and are creating and recreating their forms of association. In the book, the author crosses the world like a strange place, throwing itself in a "fly down" on subjects like: being foreign; the democracy, that in his concern gains the adjective "scoundrel"; forms of hacktivism; ways of writing science and literature; in addition to talking about academic congresses, always from a critical point of view regarding dominant Western culture and magisterial certainties.

In the book Bogart duplo de Bogart, Luis Felipe Sobral centralizes his analysisof the construction of the cinematographic persona of Humpfrey Bogart, a Hollywood actor who began his theater career and in supporting characters in the gangster films of the 1930s, but got known for his detective movie main characters in the 1940s.

O texto é uma resenha do livro “O instante certo” de Dorrit Harazim. Sugere-se que o livro pode ser lido de três modos: como uma exposição de fotos, um documento que comprova a experiência profissional da autora, ou um álbum de família, no qual as fotos são visualizadas e acompanhadas de comentários. Nesse último sentido, o livro funciona como um objeto afetivo e seus textos como a fala da autora sobre as fotografias de que gosta. As imagens se transformam com o passar do tempo, ganham novos sentidos e usos, quanto podem ser esquecidas. Ao contar suas histórias Harazim as coloca novamente em circulação.

O livro A experiência da imagem na etnografia, resultado de pesquisas realizadas pelo GRAVI – Grupo de Antropologia Visual /USP, aborda, a partir de artigos e filmes, os mais diversos usos da imagem dentro de uma perspectiva antropológica, procurando novas linguagens e possibilidades visuais para a etnografia.

Emeritus Professor of Social Anthropology, Cambridge University, is (Hon.) Life President of the UK Association of Social Anthropologists (ASA).  She is probably best known for The gender of the gift (1988), a critique of theories of society and gender relations applied to Melanesia, which she pairs with After nature (1992), a comment on the UK under Thatcher.  Her most recent book, Before and after gender (2016), is also one of her first, unpublished since the early 1970s. No período de 26 de junho a 7 de julho de 2012, o Núcleo de Antropologia, Performance e Drama (Napedra), da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), promoveu um evento de duas semanas chamado "Encontros com Richard Schechner". Esta foi uma série de eventos patrocinados pelo Napedra como parte de seu projeto temático "Antropologia da performance: drama, estética e ritual". A entrevista com Richard Schechner realizou-se em 6 de julho de 2012, no Laboratório de Imagem e Som em Antropologia (LISA), da USP.

Trechos de conversas, palestras e seminários que Richard Schechner realizou durante sua visita ao Brasil em meados do ano de 2012. O autor e pesquisador reflete sobre as condições da produção intelectual e artística contemporânea em seminário para o Departamento de Antropologia da FFLCH/ USP. Disserta sobre alguns dos seus conceitos produzidos na intersecção dos campos do teatro e da antropologia em diálogo frutífero junto ao Núcleo de Antropologia, Performance e Drama - NAPEDRA , coordenado pelo Professor John Dawsey; e ainda dança junto com o Núcleo de Artes Afro-Brasileiras.

Tentarei explicar como acontece a estranha consistência de uma música que todos os portugueses reconhecem como sua, que o mundo inteiro reconhece como portuguesa – enquadramento social do fado, suas características mais marcantes, conteúdos cantados, base musical e instrumentos utilizados, fados tradicionais e improvisação. O silêncio também … Nem musicóloga, nem historiadora, sou uma cantadeira que fala do fado como se de um amigo fosse. Este texto serviu de base para uma comunicação apresentada no seminário “Processos composicionais na música brasileira – a musicalidade no lundum e no fado, na chula e no samba” (5ª Mostra de Música Leão do Norte, Sesc Santo Amaro – Recife, outubro de 2014). Darei alguns exemplos cantados (links propostos ao longo do texto). Neles, em modo "ensaio", juntaram-se gentilmente a mim António Queiroz, Nuno Siqueira (guitarra portuguesa) e Rui Silveira (viola), a quem muito agradeço. Since 2010, La boîte rouge Vif (Chicoutimi, Quebéc, Canada), has been compiling over 300 hours of visual material from the four corners of the province of Quebec, in collaboration with the 10 First Nations and of the Inuit of Quebec. Given the sheer quantity of the material acquired, only 1% of all the testimonials and of the images collected have been shown within our realisations, which are primarily found in museums. The main motivation behind creating the film "Indian Time" is to offer, to those witnessing, an insight of the richness of the footage collected, offering the First Nations a voice and an opportunity to raise the awareneness of the greater public, and to its own community members.

Este ensaio explora o conjunto de filmes do jovem cineasta Innu, Real Junior Leblanc, ligados ao Projeto Wapikoni Mobile, que atua em comunidades indígenas do Quebec (Canadá), formando realizadores. Seu argumento é o de que estes filmes, tanto os mais experimentais como os mais documentais, privilegiam uma dimensão poética, que acenam a uma estética cosmopolítica, esta que insiste em não separar mundos humanos e além do humano e que se oferece como instrumento de luta e resistência política.

The first step was to define the posthuman. This study is particularly focused on some art works and movies to try to recognize what are their implications on the weaving of the collective imagination, referring to the visual dimension of a coming future. The report continues with the analyses of the film Gattaca (1997), directed by New Zealander Andrew M. Niccol, and of artworks by  Cypher (2009), which contain an explicit reference to  Niccol’s film and GFP Bunny/Alba (2000), both created by the artist Eduardo Kac. The works of these two authors and  the relations between them become the main  referential axis for examination of the construction of  an imaginary of transformations in the parental relationship and, more generally, in social relationships associated with artificial genetic revolution.

Following the threads that compose Alzheimer’s disease, including the lines of flight, became the trajectory shaping the course of my doctoral research. Here, I demonstrate this ethnographic journey through the lines and images with which I wove the disease as a field of experiences and disputes, in which it manifests as a diagnosis, a mode of subjectivity and an aesthetic simultaneously. From medical consultations to deliriums, from medicine to shamanism and the viewpoint of those with dementia, the images opened me up to other ways of seeing and narrating the disease. Along this journey, an ethnographic proposal emerged. What did Alzheimer’s disease reveal to me about doing anthropology – and vice-versa? How did the passage between living the disease and telling others about it help me envisage my own passage between living the field and its retelling? Since as Alzheimer’s disease was gradually being composed, so too was an ethnography.

The dossier ‘Crossed Gazes’ contains four articles and a film essay, all of which dialogue with each other closely. These texts were inspired by the seminar “Crossed Gazes: Brazil/Canada,” held in October 2016 at the USP Department Anthropology and which united image professionals, filmmakers and researchers from Brazil and Quebec (Canada) to discuss collaborative audiovisual experiences in indigenous areas.

The song “Dama de Espadas” [free translation: Queen of Spades], by Ilessi and Iara Ferreira, is a reference work by a new generation of songwriters from Rio de Janeiro. Both singer-songwriters inserted and acting in the contemporary artistic scene, they intend to build new narratives, in the literary and musical dimension of the song. We aim to understand the motivation behind the development of this song – in the context of production, performance and listening experience. In addition to that, we intend to look at the ways in which a dialog with blues as a musical genre from the United States among the African American was built, comprising two territories that witnessed the fight for women’s rights, roughly a century apart.

Neste ensaio reflito sobre os modos como Rastas criam e recriam Kingston habitando-a com sua presença física, suas narrativas e seu léxico. A Kingston Rastafari é construídos sobre diversas camadas semânticas e políticas, e a questão dos topônimos emergiu nas mais diversas interações que tive com meus interlocutores ao longo de meu trabalho de campo. Para além da toponímia rastafari, reflito também sua presença; seus corpos marcados por índices de pertencimento ao Movimento Rastafari; as decorações de muros e casas com cores e motivos rastafari, as narrativas de eventos ocorridos em certos locais. Explorar os modos de ocupação de Kingston pelos rastas é uma forma de analisar como diferentes pessoas e coletivos se posicionam e agem em relação à memória social, cidadania, utilização e acesso aos espaços públicos, acesso a direitos e reparação pelos ciclos de violência estatal aos quais foram submetidos ao longo da história.

This article develops a visual approach of the meetings for reading poems present in the works that belong to the Roberto Piva Library, located at Sao Paulo downtown. By presenting photographs taken during the encounters, extracts of poems and a description of the environment, the reader is invited to participate of the reading sessions and of the urban landscape of which the poet Roberto Piva belonged.

The present text is a reapresentation, a synthetic adaptation and a free translation of the introduction made by Isabelle Stengers and Bruno Latour (in "The Sphinx of the Work") to the English translation of "Les differents modes d'existence", 1943 ("The Different Modes of existence", 2015), written by the French philosopher Étienne Souriau. The reason for doing so is the relative oblivion that came upon it, despite its strength, plus the surprise that causes a philosophy that not only undoes the Kantian fissure but brings the art and what it has of more intensive, that is its way of doing, to the center of the ontological question - what, after all, do we do by existing?

O presente trabalho, formulado inicialmente como trabalho de conclusão de um curso sobre etnografia e textualidade, apresenta parte dos resultados de pesquisa de mestrado da autora sobre publicações lésbicas de caráter periódico no Brasil e sua construção e circulação através de redes de correspondência, criando espaços para elaboração identitária, experimentação de escrita e construção política. Aqui, discuto gênero e gênero textual (gender, genre), a partir de uma perspectiva pós-estruturalista. O texto é construído através de e-mails e uma carta escrita a mão, em uma proposta de emulação do gênero epistolar, tendo o devaneio e a digressão como uma das marcas textuais empregadas para tal e a impossibilidade de edição como impulso para uma criação incremental e fragmentária dos argumentos.

Movimentos sociais organizados de novas formas estão debatendo a intersecção de diferentes marcadores sociais ou eixos de opressão, como gênero, sexualidade, classe e raça, problematizando normas sexuais e de gênero. Utilizando uma abordagem etnográfica e métodos qualitativos como entrevista e observação, o presente artigo pretende responder à pergunta: o que significa aos ativistas da Revolta da Lâmpada fazer ativismo usando o artivismo como método, em um coletivo com inspiração interseccional que tem o corpo livre como denominador comum de luta? O coletivo de São Paulo, Brasil, se entende como uma plataforma com horizontes interseccionais, criando um denominador comum – o “corpo livre” – entre diferentes grupos identitários sem a hierarquização de suas agendas e a deslegitimação de seus espaços exclusivos. Através da celebração de seus corpos ocupando espaços públicos, elas usam diversas expressões artísticas para fazer ativismo, o que tem sido chamado de artivismo.
