Temporal monitoring of the indicators of basic education in the city of Arraial do Cabo, Brazil

To generate a diagnosis for managers of basic education in Arraial do Cabo, this study aimed to investigate the temporal monitoring of 30 parameters related to the enrollment quantity and infrastructure conditions of schools by consulting the results of the 2011 to 2018 School Census. For this, we extracted data from six variables related to the enrollment quantity and another 24 related to the infrastructure conditions in schools on the website https://www.qedu.org.br. In this study, 22 active schools were investigated in the municipality. Regarding the enrollment quantity, the Center for Youth and Adult Studies presented a prominent role. Nine variables related to school infrastructure were present in more than 75% of the schools investigated. We expect that this study can be useful as a basis for public managers and private network managers to improve the infrastructure conditions of schools. That can improve the teaching learning process and the global formation of the students, so they will be able to have a critical position in face of an increasingly complex and challenging society.

The social assistance network for children and adolescents in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil: contributions to the debate

This article aims at reflecting upon the non-governmental social assistance network for children and adolescents in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes (Brazil), considering that they play an important role in the process of establishing the Sistema de Garantia de Direitos das Crianças e Adolescentes (System for Guaranteeing the Rights of Children and Adolescents), recommended by the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (Statute of the Child and Adolescent). The study also tries to point out the contradictory dimensions of these organizations in as far as they tend to contribute to removing the State's responsibility in offering essential services to the child and adolescent population and the fragmentation of actions. The analyses are based on documentation and field research developed by non-governmental institutions registered in the Conselho Municipal de Promoção dos Direitos das Crianças e Adolescentes (City Council for Promoting the Rights of the Child and Adolescent). This study is important to identify the answers to expressions of the existing social issues in the State and society, aiming at formulating professional answers, especially in the area of Social Service which, considering the relations between public and private institutions, could culminate in the strengthening and broadening of rights.

The use of photographs and conceptual maps in the significant learning process of water resources

This article presents the application of a didactic sequence with 9th grade students from two Junior High Schools in the municipalities of Itaperuna and Porciúncula, both in the state of Rio de Janeiro. We addressed the classroom theme “water resources”, using the Problem-Based Active Learning methodology as well as the integration of Art and Science, based on Ausubel's Theory of Meaningful Learning. The work aimed at raising student awareness about the importance of water resources using photographic language. To identify the subsumers, a brainstorming survey was carried out followed by activities with texts, videos and debates. After this, photographs were taken and concept maps were drawn up, culminating in an exhibition for the school community.

QR code: a pedagogical proposal in the Physical Education teacher training

Digital technologies are increasingly present in daily life and have boosted the emergence of new teaching practices. At that, this study aimed to present the pedagogical possibilities of Quick Response Codes through an experiment made in a semi-presence minicourse in which a competition named GymCode was used as a pedagogical strategy. For this purpose, a qualitative research was carried out with 15 students enrolled in the latter half of the Physical Education Teaching Course. The data collected through the questionnaire answered by the participants were analyzed according to the theoretical framework. It was found that the QR code technology can be used by teachers as a pedagogical resource to mediate student knowledge. It is expected that the study will contribute and encourage reflections on the use of digital technologies in the teaching and learning process.

Use of Google Classroom as a pedagogical resource: an experience report for the teaching of Spectroscopy in the infrared (IR) region

Despite scientific and technological advances, education is still linked to more traditional approaches. However, innovative measures are beginning to emerge in the area, enabling the creation of opportunities and ways to learn and teach. The present work presents the analysis of one of such measures, Google Classroom, used as a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in order to contribute to student learning in an online extension course. To achieve this, a virtual classroom was created containing potentially significant materials to promote a more effective learning of the concepts related to the selected theme, Spectroscopy in the Infrared Region. The experiment demonstrated that Google Classroom is an excellent virtual environment that can be used in distance learning, providing efficient collaboration between teachers and students. In addition, it was also noted that the students found this VLE easy to use and that, despite missing some important tools, it reached its goal.

Teaching of reading and literacy: evaluation of mobile apps in the early years of Elementary School

Mobile apps can be good didactic resources, favoring different pedagogical actions. However, it is important to make a careful selection of the app for educational purposes, and evaluate the aspects that can influence the objectives. This article aims to present a quality analysis of six apps with the potential to support the teaching of reading and literacy. The evaluation was made by four teachers in early Elementary School, during a short course organized for this purpose. The research had a qualitative character, and the data, collected through an evaluation form and analyzed based on theoretical references, made it possible to observe positive features and some limitations in the apps.

Think-Pair-Share method combined with the use of an online simulator: contributions and challenges for the study of Analog Electronics in Technical Education

In the educational context, active methodologies are guidelines that orient pedagogical action in which the student is the protagonist of his learning process. This article aims to present the analysis of contributions and challenges of using the Think-Pair-Share active-learning technique, supported by the use of an online simulator, for the teaching and learning process of rectifiers, in Analog Electronics classes of a technical course in Industrial Automation. The research was qualitative, of the pedagogical intervention type. The data, collected by pre-test and post-test, observation during the application of a didactic sequence and questionnaire, showed that the proposal brought significant contributions to the teaching-learning process, although there was some resistance in terms of more participatory postures.

Internet de las Cosas en la Educación: una visión general de las Revisiones de Literatura Sistematizadas

Internet de las cosas (IoT) se refiere a una red de objetos físicos que pueden conectarse entre sí, a través de Internet, permitiendo la recopilación y transmisión de datos. En este contexto, este artículo tiene el objetivo general de presentar el análisis de datos de dos Revisiones Sistemáticas de Literatura sobre producción científica relacionada con aplicaciones de IoT en el contexto educativo. La primera revisión fue promovida en 2018, basada en trabajos internacionales publicados en 2017, identificados en la base de datos Scopus. La segunda, realizada en 2020, consideró las obras nacionales identificadas en los anales del Simposio Brasileño sobre Informática en Educación, durante un período de tres años, de 2017 a 2019. En ambos casos, se analizaron aspectos como objetivos, recursos, procedimientos utilizados y resultados de investigación en el área. En general, la primera revisión realizada destacó la personalización del aprendizaje como una posible contribución significativa de IoT a la educación. Los trabajos de la segunda revisión, por otro lado, se centraron en mejorar el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje mediante el uso de IoT.

Aplicación de Realidad Aumentada para la enseñanza del Diseño Técnico en Educación Profesional y Tecnológica

El Diseño Técnico es un contenido importante en varios cursos de Educación Profesional y Tecnológica. Sin embargo, en el proceso pedagógico relacionado con el tema, las dificultades de los estudiantes se observan en la representación de objetos tridimensionales, debido al poco desarrollo de la visión espacial. Por lo tanto, se considera que la Realidad Aumentada contribuye a la acción educativa relacionada con la percepción espacial y que el uso de aplicaciones colabora con la enseñanza y el aprendizaje. Entonces, el objetivo de este trabajo es describir el desarrollo, por parte de los autores, de una aplicación móvil de Realidad Aumentada que tiene como objetivo facilitar a los estudiantes la comprensión del Diseño Técnico, siendo una herramienta que ayuda al proceso pedagógico.

Qualif and digital games that support the teaching and learning of software quality

This paper discusses the training of IT undergraduates and professionals to develop quality software which include skills and competences on software quality. Given that the software quality discipline involves extensive theoretical content, strategies to motivate and provide student learning, such as the use of digital games, are crucial. This paper aims at presenting the Qualif software and its comparison with 14 other digital games that support the teaching and learning of software quality. The games were identified using systematic literature mapping. The comparison was based on a tailored taxonomy for educational serious games. The results showed that Brazil is one of the main countries where research in the area of games to the discipline of software quality is carried out. In addition, the research evidenced namely genres, platforms, characteristics and assessment methods applied to the selected games.

School health program: screening of students with hearing disorders enrolled in two municipal schools in Macaé

Introduction: The Health at School Program provides the action “Promotion of hearing health and identification of students with possible signs of alteration”. Objective: To identify the proportion of students who show behaviors indicative of audiological changes, in two schools in the municipal teaching network of Macaé. Development: A descriptive study was carried out, with students between 8 and 14 years old, from two schools in Macaé, in 2018. A form was used with information on behaviors indicative of hearing loss, indicated by the student himself. Of the 199 students, 46.2% were from school 1 and 53.8% were from school 2. As for the behavior indicative of audiological changes, for the option ALWAYS the greatest proportions were: they turned their heads towards the teacher or colleague’s voices when talking (25.6%); they have difficulty hearing what the teacher says when they write the material on the blackboard from the back (16.1%); have difficulty speaking what they are thinking (11.1%); feel a ringing in the ear (12.6%). Conclusion: Turning your head in the direction of the teacher or colleague's voice when speaking and having difficulty hearing what the teacher says when writing from the back were the major audiological changes.

Formulation, implementation and analysis of public policies: the case of the College of Application (Macaé, Brazil)

Public policies can be considered relevant for Public Administration, as they directly impact the lives of the population. In this sense, they refer to a set of government actions with great social relevance, which are fragmented into plans, programs and projects. This article aims to investigate the formulation, implementation and evaluation characteristics of the Public Policy of the College of Application of the Educational Foundation of Macaé implemented by the Municipality of Macaé, based on the analysis of the content of the policies and the most relevant elements in the formulation processes, implementation and evaluation. With a qualitative approach and descriptive nature, it uses semi-structured interviews with local political actors to carry out the present case study based on proposed research proposals. The data suggest that there is a need to expand democratic participation and to create objective mechanisms for evaluating the results of the policy under study.

Inclusion and accessibility policies at the Federal Institute of Amazonia in Amapa, Brazil

The purpose of this article is to verify how the accessibility policies adopted at the institution reach students, especially those related to architectural and informational issues. It is a field research, with a qualitative approach. The problem is to examine how Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Amapá (IFAP) has been working to meet the school’s inclusion policies for students with disabilities, especially in terms of architectural accessibility in furniture and information. Results show that the campus has been working to meet these policies. Despite such efforts, there are issues that deserve attention, mainly maintenance, furniture repair, architecture and information. The challenges are many; however, an inclusive system requires changes in several aspects, and is particularly achieved through the implementation of human rights values.

Use of geotechnologies for mapping and analyzing urban green areas in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil

Urban vegetation is important to mitigate environmental problems caused by disordered urbanization and to provide quality of life to the population. The objective of the research was to map and analyze the urban green areas of Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil. Therefore, satellite images and fieldwork were used to identify and validate green areas. In the Geographic Information System environment, data from green areas from the 2010 IBGE demographic census, and other data such as hydrography and limits of census sectors were integrated. With that, it was possible to estimate indexes and build thematic maps that supported the analyses. The survey found a percentage of green areas of 2.5%, an index of urban green areas per inhabitant of 11.26 m² / inhab., and public green areas for recreation of 0.66 m² / inhab. In addition, 70% of the census sectors do not have green areas. We concluded that the municipality has a deficit of urban green areas, and that there is a need to implement them, mainly public areas intended for recreation in densely populated places.

Growth of distributed generation in the context of the hydropower crisis in the Southeast of Brazil: environmental and socioeconomic aspects

Given the hydropower crisis in the Southeast region of Brazil in the years 2012-2015, the objective of this work is to analyze how consumers in the aforementioned region were led to implement Distributed Generation systems in that period. An exploratory data analysis was carried out regarding the level of reservoirs in the Southeast / Midwest sub-system, the consumption and cost of electricity in the region, and the evolution of Distributed Generation. This research made it possible to notice that, the water crisis increased the need for the use of thermal plants and, as a result, it increased the emissions of greenhouse gases, causing the cost of electricity to be high, especially for residential and commercial consumers in the Southeast. Thus, in order to reduce electricity costs, consumers invested in renewable energy sources. Among them, photovoltaic solar energy was the most used source of energy by all classes of consumers, mainly residential and commercial throughout the Southeast region.

Vertical Sealing System on Opaque Ventilated Façade: case study on Brazilian buildings

A ventilated façade is a construction system that promotes advantages such as agility in execution, high productivity, time reduction of receiving materials and production, among others. Brazil has no prescriptive normalization about construction of ventilated opaque façades; however, the performance standard (NBR 15.575) could be applied for evaluation of residential buildings. The paper aims to organize information on the ventilated opaque façade construction system contributing to the dissemination of the use of this technology in Brazil. The method adopted in the study was a data survey research of some Brazilian companies that use the ventilated opaque façade system, regarding their location, materials used, type of building (new or retrofit), and type of occupation (residential, commercial, institutional). Results show thermal insulation use is predominant in residence and institutional buildings with ventilated opaque façade, and ceramic is the most used material in Brazil, despite the variety of possible external coating materials. The survey shows that 78% of ventilated opaque façade buildings are non-residential, so there are no norms that could be applied. Finally, more academic works on opaque ventilated façades is necessary in order to help consolidate specific prescriptive norms in Brazil.

The role of Universities: initiatives in times of pandemic and the performance of CAJUFF Macaé

The present work is dedicated to the study of the role of universities through initiatives developed by institutions located in the city of Macaé that contribute to society, focusing on services and activities aimed at the Covid-19 pandemic period and, more specifically, the role of the CAJUFF Macaé. It is possible to identify a strong commitment from universities located in Macaé, linked to the mandatory curricular internship, research projects and extension projects, especially during the pandemic period. Contact with universities was required, as well as access to the official portals and documents of the agencies involved. Thus, it was necessary to adapt the activities in order to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic, using its human and intellectual resources. In this sense, CAJUFF Macaé's performance in the advisory aspect stands out, providing remote legal assistance regarding government emergency benefits, with great demand from the population. The thematic choice seeks to enhance the activities carried out by universities through a more in-depth analysis of CAJUFF Macaé, as well as the importance of the university itself, considering its relevant role in society.

Rede de agroturismo Altos da Serramar: uma alternativa de desenvolvimento local sustentável na bacia do rio Macaé, RJ, Brasil?

A noção de sustentabilidade associada ao planejamento turístico têm sido cada vez comum, principalmente em discussões sobre modelos de desenvolvimento socioeconômico que contribuam para a conservação da biodiversidade. O alto curso da bacia do rio Macaé (RJ, Brasil), área focal de políticas de proteção da natureza, tem vivenciado, desde a década de 1970, um expressivo crescimento da atividade turística. Nessa região, foi organizada, via protagonismo local, a rede de agroturismo Altos da Serramar, formada por dezenas de proprietários rurais. Inspirado nessa problemática, o artigo teve como o objetivo investigar em que medida a constituição e operacionalização dessa rede pode ser entendida como uma alternativa sustentável para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico da bacia do rio Macaé. A metodologia envolveu revisão da literatura, observação participante e visitas às propriedades durante o ano de 2019. Os resultados indicam expressivo potencial da rede para estimular o desenvolvimento sustentável na região de estudo.

Da UNED Macaé ao Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Fluminense Campus Macaé

O presente trabalho pretende rememorar a criação e a implementação do Instituto Federal Fluminense, no município de Macaé. Para tanto, aborda o  percurso histórico, desde a assinatura, por Nilo Peçanha, do Decreto N.º 7566, em 1909, o qual criava as Escolas de Aprendizes e Artífices, com foco na escola instalada em Campos dos Goytacazes-RJ, até a sua transformação em Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia, por meio da Lei N.° 11.892/2008, discorrendo sobre os aspectos sociais, políticos e econômicos relacionados à sua criação e estabelecimento no município, bem como sobre os seus impactos para a comunidade local e adjacentes. Essa abordagem visa trazer à comunidade acadêmica elementos relacionados à identidade institucional e regional, incentivando futuros trabalhos sobre a temática. A pesquisa se dá através da recuperação de informações relacionadas à temática, usando como fonte artigos, informações da própria instituição e algumas notícias do jornal local “O Debate”.
